Fincher's ZODIAC strikes!!! And Leaves A Trailer As His First Mark!
Hey folks, Harry here... HOLY SHIT! The trailer for ZODIAC looks like a phenomenal film. Everything from the cinematography to the performances to the awesome music... it just screams "WATCH ME NOW!" - It looks like Fincher is back and kicking ass. That's a damn good thing! Here... check it out:
ZODIAC wonders what your sign is!

the first one!!
-
Honestly. Great trailer. Well shot. Acting looks fabulous. Can't wait for the film. But fuck if I know why every new trailer has music that does not fit the tone of everything else... at all. Departed, anyone? But I'm convinced this will be a classic. I mean it, all time kinda thing. Fincher's too good to make this suck.
-
A mini genre that has been neglected as of lately. Im glad to see a return and by someone who doesnt stink.
-
the Zodiac killer believed that all his victims will be his slaves in hell (read the book). Andy Robinsons character in "Dirty Harry" is based on the Zodiac killer
-
Lame music.
Jake Gyllenhwhatever and Chloe Soveryugly would produce childern with faces indistinguishable from apes. Ugly apes.
David Fincher should not be allowed to pick his projects himself anymore.
When a drunken, drugged out loser/has-been like Robert Downey Jr is doing well the world stops making sense. -
The music took away from the suspense a little, but all of the best parts of the book had clips in that trailer. Not to mention, the film looks GORGEOUS. Fuck yeah, Fincher. Bring it.
-
it looks pretty good......great cinematography and that last scene with the man humming..brilliant. Definetely check this out...Fincher's films are always worth watching even if they are not too good (Panic Room)
-
Here's the page with links to the trailer in HD:

i myself was jizzing over the casting combo of RDJ, gyllenhaal and the always pitch-perfect ruffalo. dee-lish. been waiting for some good fincher for a while now, i'm sure he'll deliver. but i do agree that the fake-'departed' music was rawther lame.
-
The film music is by David Shire, of TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3 and ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN. I fully expect it will not suck.
-
great cast
-
Wow, a return to form from Fincher. Anybody know if Andrew Kevin Walker contributed to rewrites on the script? About damn time we get another Fincher film. Anybody excited to see Anthony Edwards again or just the fact that he has hair again?
-
...the trailer itself was all over the place, but I'm still interested.
-
That the real Zociac Killer pays $7 to go see this film, and he's sitting right behind you. They never caught this guy.
-
I did a report on the Zodiac killer last year just because I knew Fincher was doing this movie, and I would therefore have knowledge on the topic before seeing it. I just hope it doesn't get pushed back AGAIN.
-
Read it last year and it was intense! A solid detective story all the way around. Best Screenplay material. Hope they kept the "baby" sequence and glad they kept the theater sequence intact. These are well and truly two of the creepiest moments in the film. Gylennhall is perfect as the cartoonist who takes this case on as a personal interest. Downey's good actor and I hope he's off the horse for good. Music for the trailer really ruins the feel for the true horror this movie is based on. Get rid of it! Use a Rod Stewart tune for a thriller. What brainiac thought that one up?
-
Summer of Sam had great music and it was about Son of Sam. this will work, it's fincher, i have faith
-
the Zodiac could be in this talkback
-
put that in your pipe and smoke it.
-
Even looking like this Chloë Sevigny is still the only actress that makes me blush.
-
in as much as it's using the music to set the sountrack of the time. Summa you guys are so literal. Ever heard of juxtaposition? ___________ As for Anthony Edwards, the last thing I saw him in was Thunderbirds. At least he's already hit rock-bottom. But I'm still scared.
-
He believed his victims will be his slaves in paradice.... he spelled it that way too...
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE
http://www.clint.ca/zodiac/index.htm -
trailer didn't really raise or lower my expectations, but i suppose that's a good thing. the departed trailer had about the same effect on me, and that one's my second favorite of the year.
-
this movie looks dope. The trailer has a weird vibe to it, but I guarantee is's gotta be better than Panic Room.
-
every other Fincher film is good? Case in point:
alien3 - SE7EN - the game - FIGHT CLUB - panic room - ZODIAC??? -
Whatever, The Game was great, it even had 'game' one would say...holy shit this post of mine is dumb. But I agree on all other points - however, even a 'bad' Fincher film is still better than a lot of the other shit out there.
-
Graysmith shooting guns. Graysmith solving the first cipher (and I'll bet the movie version will "solve" the 340-character one, too...). Toschi looking like a clown and whining to Graysmith. Zodiac - oh, excuse me, it's actually Allen in this film, obviously - calling Graysmith! GRAYSMITH VISITING ALLEN'S HOUSE! Dear Lord. This is the kind of "true story" falsification that makes the "true story" claim in Bay's Texas Remake seem believable...
-
Fincher is a hack. He hasn't done anything remotely entertaining since Alien3.
-
as the next scorsese? ... wha? i mean they are both cynical as fuck, whatever sign me up. but take jake g. out of hollywood and feed him to the dogs please. replace him with topher grace and you have one fucking unbelievable cast, keep him in and it's like, wow what a cast ... and jake g is along for the ride too
-
that piece of s. would have been a good movie if maynard from TOOL had played raoul, like had been originally intended
-
well...that and the review make me excited. the pile that is labeled "to anticipate//to do" (Pan, Fountain, Grizzly - AAaaand Spiderman, Babel and so much more) is growing, growing, growing and growing. This year is proving to be great with a pretty good outlook for 2007. All I need now is an ambitious project for harrison ford ...please.
-
With his gal pal, Venus, Professor Matic, Robert the Robot and Looney the Lazoon. "I want to be a fireball...fireball..."
-
liked something a bit more ominous for the music, not that i can't appreciate what they did use, it just felt kind of... off.
-
..or should i just call you..Zodiac!!
-
But what's up the image quality? I watched the high def trailer and it looks bland and washed-out. The composition and everything else looks great, I just don't like how unnatural it looks (like it's been fucked with digitally, was it shot on DV?). Quite shocking that I loved the look of the new high def trailer for Stallone's latest directorial project, but have a problem with Fincher's.
-
But the music wasn't clicking with me.. Trailer should have played a bit on the darker side..
-
Guyz if u loko athe end of the preview theres a pic of Wolverine! well ok not the end but neart he endm its like three claws! fin kicckassx i cant' WAIt for tis movie now! Finch you rock!!?!?!?
-
To C Legion .. Fincher often likes playing around with the colours on his films.. if you look at the Se7en DVD (SE) they go into it a fair bit.
-
Fincher hasn't impressed me since he made every young, white male think their pissy angst was worth hearing about with "Fight Club". "Panic Room" just illustrated how fucking unbearable Jodie Foster has become. I will see this, but I have no hope for it at all. If I'm not mistaken, it has no third act what with the Zodiac still on the loose. Or are they going with the idea that he's the Unabomber?
-
Finsher, in my opinion, has never made a bad film. worst one was Panic Room, and that was a great exercise in the confined space thriller genre. this preview looks GREAT, my only qualm is that Jake Gyllenhaal, while being obviously talented, is still too young for roles like this. he looks 18 to me, I'm sorry. unless you do something to make him look 30, it's gonna be a distraction. that said, it looks like nothing could stop this from being a pretty kick ass mystery thriller.
-
It looks to me like he's graded it so that it actually looks like a 70s film stock. Could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised.
-
Is it just me or is Brian Cox turning into Jor-el?!
-
Or a lead salad.
-
I have to pay $9 buck to see this and that asshole only pays $7! Thats injustice my friends. Thats injustice.
-
has a very small role, if the source material is any indication. He *spoiler* plays a lawyer who is brought in at the request of the Zodiac... He ends up talking to the Zodiac on a live TV show over the phone, making for a very strange interview, but it is later determined that the call was a prank. Intense scene though. *end spoiler*
-
Yes, I told you to take your meds earlier. Did you listen? No. They'll be waiting for you when the lights go out tonight. Pleasant dreams.
-
stop with the up up and away shite. it's horrible. I thought the joke was over.
-
Would be a shame if it's true. :(
-
Why are they making another Zodiac movie? I just rented a movie called Zodiac that just came out on DVD in October starring Justin Chambers and Rory Culkin. Granted, it sucked, but it's still going to be the same story. Unless they plan on changing the past!
-
..its here $10 where i live *shivers*
-
I have yet to see her play any part where she isn't an introverted wallflower or set dressing. Small small parts and in the ones where she has a medium part I don't see the acting chops everyone on her balls in indie Hollywood says she has.
With that said, when I saw her in glasses in the first part of the trailer I thought it was Robert Downey JR in drag and had to rewind just to make sure. So that tells you about how "attractive" she is.
Not attractive, not talented, won't be remembered for anything but giving an on screen x rated BJ in a crappy Gallo film, (I bet didn't even give a good BJ.) Please can we stop putting her in films. Kk, thx. -
"Brown Bunny" anyone?
-
It's an early Rod Stewart cover of "I'm Losin You" by the Temptations, and it's a pretty damned good song. Forgotten classic, actually. And I didn't think it was all that jarring. Nice to see some Fincher footage not totally shot with a shit-filter and scored with industrial scrapings.
-
'I Know I'm Losing You' is a great tune (from Every Picture Tells A Story.) Even though it wasn't technically a Faces tune, the Faces played it live many times. And it didn't take me out of enjoying the trailer 'cos The Faces are the greatest rock n roll band of ALL time. It's a nice surprise. Would've been nicer to hear Ronnie Lane, mind you. (Trailer looked beautiful by the way, congratulations Dave!)
-
Has he ever made a great film? No.
-
Sorry, that distinction goes to Ron Howard. Fincher has Se7en and Fight Club. Howard has EdTV and The Missing. I rest my case.
-
have you ever made a great film?no.
-
Fincher used the Grass Valley Viper Cam to shoot Zodiac, which, for those of you who don't know is a Hi Def digital camera recording to hard drives. All the post work was done using Final Cut, Motion and Shake on Apple Macs. Yes, I'm a geek. As for the trailer, it got me intrigued but there was something about it that didn't sit right with me - might have been the music, might have been the overly comic moments here and there. Dunno...
-
Drug addict?--Check
Loser?--Perhaps
Washed up has been?--No way. The guy is one of the best actors working in Hollywood. He has survived because of his exceptional chops. -
I like this David Fincher very much, except for his puppet Alien film, which I guess was not all his fault. It's good to have him back.
-
is one of the most beautiful things ever. I don't know how he got it to look like that, but I don't care. It's wonderful.
-
thanks for the HD links.
-
to make another decent movie. If this thing is any good then he's 2 for 6. I think there was a copycat killer years later. Do I smell sequel?
-
That's why David Fincher is David Fincher... and you're not.
-
They tore down that eyesore behind the Ferry Building here in SF after it got damaged in the '89 earthquake. Looks like an interesting look at a famous part of the history of my hometown.
-
thats what half of you guys on here must be...Fincher not making any good films? uh...SE7EN anyone? christ that movie alone gets him a free pass for Panic Room whih wasnt "bad" just a bit too unconventional...hmmm what else has he made...The Game which has suspence out the ass...Alien 3 which went back to the creepiness of the original (dont get me wrong tho, i fucking LOVE Aliens) and my 3rd fave movie of all time..FIGHT CLUB...a near perfect film and one i could watch anytime...as for his lack of POV, Fincher is one of the few directors that if you look at a single frame from one of his films, you know its him, so all you children can go back to watching Biker Boyz or whatever fuckwits watch these days, ill be enjoying this with the rest of the adults
-
Oh I see you are in this talkback throwing your ignorant rants as wisdom again. You feel that Fincher is done as a filmmaker? Wow, here's a large glass of shut the fuck up and it's time for the grown ups to talk. He has only made two great films? Hmmm, interesting. What about The Game? What about redefining the tired and worn serial killer genre with Seven? He HAS a distinct visual style unlike other directors currently churning out visually stunted popcorn tinged shit hiding under the thrown about moniker of cinema. I am curious to see what directors you idolize, Thunderballs? What was the last great movie you saw Thunberballs...and Torque doesn't count. The one thing I'll give you with this talkback is that you didn't try and come up with some half assed racist b.s. regarding the skin color of the victims of the Zodiac killer. For that, I thank you. It's nice to know that your ignorance needs a vacation every once and a while.

I think this one is gonna let you guys down *SPOILERS*
by industrykiller!
And unlike some of the people on this talkback I'm a big fan of Fincher. I wrote a negative review of this a bit back and caught alot of shit for it but I stand by every word. It's simply a meandering film. I can't defend my POV any more without getting into spoiler territory, although I will tell you it lacks the classic Fincher atmosphere throughout 90%% of the film, so stop reading right here if you want to stay int eh dark *SPOILERS* You know all those scenes in the trailer that look suspenseful? Well I'll tell you what happens at the end of every single one of them. Absolutely nothing. Every scene that makes it looks like the cops are about to nab the guy or that the Zodiac killer may be closer than they think ends with nothing happening. That scene with Charles Fleischer and Gyllehaal and the footsteps upstairs? Nothing happens. You think something will and then Gyllenhaal simply exists the house without incident and shortly afterwards the entire lead that led him to that place is dropped. I don't feel bad giving that away since it's such a manipulative scene with completely undeserved suspense. You think the film looks dark and eerie? Not really, it's actually quite bright, no darker than your average Law and order Episode. Halfway through the movie the Zodiac killer disappears and ceases to be a presence in the film. That guy that calls Gyllehaal on the phone and breathes? You don't even know if thats the Zodiac killer, you never find out, and nothing ever comes of it. I guess I was so upset because so many scenes begin and it looks like something might actually occur but before the scene even gets to a climax it just sort of fizzles out. It seemed to run on fumes for 3 hours. I'll say the good in the film is the first two killings because they are so not your typically overdramatized Hollywood murders but instead very cold and matter of fact and also Brian Coxs very small part which is actually the comic relief although it doesnt look like it in the trailer.
-
I have to say this trailer left me cold, looks a bit scattershot. Maybe down to bad marketing from the trailer people. Whatever, i'll be there opening day. Fincher's earnt my loyalty from Alien 3, Seven, The Game and Fight Club, all amazing movies. Panic Room was ok, but it's not a movie designed to be watched twice. Fingers crossed for this one.
-
Not bad. IT JUST...MIGHT...WORK!!!
-
what rod stewart song is that?
trailer looks good, i don't mind the song at all. -
Maybe he is using the song by The Faces because the film takes place in the 70's? Did you ever think of that, brainiacs? Not every moment has to sound like a rehash of the Halloween Soundtrack.
-
Yes, and a couple of days before you did!
-
maybe YOUR the zodiac, you were first in this talk back! heh heh... yeah buddy I got my eye on you.... if you show up to the movie in a black hood I'll wait for the next showing ;)
-
its how you spelled 'paradice' is what gave you away!!

"I'm waiting for a good movie..." Indeed, so am I. I hope the killer doesn't end up being Kevin Spacey.
-
I'd come out of retirement for the guy that cut that trailer. It sets a landmark in being the first trailer to have a muzak score. But I'm not the zodiac. And even if I was, I wouldn't tell YOU...
-
I can't wait to see this... in fact, I haven't looked forward to a movie as much in quite some time. Those who are criticizing the music in the trailer, I think, are missing the point... Fincher obviously wants to approach the familiar psycho-killer subject matter in more of a dramatic, historical, character-oriented manner... I suspect that this will be less about thrills and chills than about an in-depth exploration of these killings and what they signified about a time and place. The music, I think, captures that attempt to depict a specific time period (as i believe someone else said)... I think this will be Fincher's JFK. Can't wait.
