FANBOYS trailer has hit online!
Hey folks, Harry here... It's kinda surreal to see a trailer for Ernest Q Cline's FANBOYS. I've only been following this tiny project for nearly a decade now. Back when EPISODE 1 was merely a phantom menace on the horizon. I'm not the biggest fan of the trailer, as it's playing up the gags and isn't really doing a job of selling what I feel the real story of the film is, which is the heart of this friendship. BUT - that's for the movie to tell ya. The trailer is meant to show you the zany fun that's in store for folks. Here ya go, the good folks at IESB.net got it...

maybe?

Is this getting a wide release?
-
5-25-77 looks soooooooo much better... Where is the coverage on that?!?
-
I have a cable connection. When I click on something and then go to take a twenty minute shit while reading through almost an entire issue of Rolling Stone, I expect the shit to be up when I get back. Alas, it was not.
-
its actaully a somewhat interesting premise. A little late but interesting.
-
Yes, The Weinstein Company plans to release this wide. As for Moonwatcher's 5-25-77, I'm dying to see that film. But right now, I don't believe it has a distributor and not much is known about the finished film.
-
Well from the stuff I've seen 5-25-77 is a more passionate piece of work. Its more about the emotional magic that all film holds over us geeks, while these seems like a schlocky, sex romp with geek jokes. Perhaps thats why 5-25-77 doesn't have a distributor... It won't sell because its too true. But I'm just a little blogger and the director Patrick Read Johnson took the time and effort not only to write a comment on my blog (how he came upon it I don't know) but to even write me a lengthy email to thank me for my glowing appreciation of the trailer on my blog... 5-25-77 will pwns this anyday...

produced by Kevin Spacey?
-
Im amazed it actually got made. But bo cameo by faux-Harry? or am i thinking of the wrong movie?
-
than dirtbag, they just cleaned it up for the trailer.
-
Nor does the you tube address. Alas it was not meant to be.
-
"Noone" is not a word, it is a name (as in actress Nora-Jane Noone from "The Descent").
Try "no one", monkey boy. ;-) -
...this looks pretty good. I wanna see it.
-
and is Harry still in this?
-
The one that made me cry at 4am when it had finally downloaded it. I can't believe I cried, lol. http://tinyurl.com/yn9pqs

...for the sake of entertainment. But there's no way Kristen Bell hangs out with those douchebags. Sorry, not plausible. Oh, and did anyone notice that the dork who calls Han a 'dirtbag' is Seth Rogen in Prosthetics?
-
In 98, I was so fucking excited about that fucking abortion of a film, I almost shit myself in the teaser they showed in front of "Enemy of the State". Seriously, that double-sided lightsaber was just about the coolest thing I had ever seen. I cannot believe how fucking psyched I was for that fucking movie. I ate up everything, avoided ever fucking spoiler, got pissed when I saw anything, avoided this site like the plague and then on opening day, I saw it and I was like, "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!?!?!?" I honestly felt like I had been raped. Seriously. I thought for sure I had freaked out and dreamt the whole thing, so I sat through it again. Nope, still sucked. In retrospect, no film could've possibly lived up to that kind of hype and expectation. It could have at least tried though. So, with that in mind, I can understand the idea behind this movie. However, I feel really sorry for the cancer kid, because....fuck....what a horrible note to go out on.
-
Will the nerds pull an 'Event Horizon' and pluck out their eyeballs in horror at the sheer shittiness of the prequels?
-
Blech!
-
the youtube site works but the real one takes an hour with high speed...but still IT LOOKS GREAT!
-
Hey look those two guys remind us of C3PO & R2D2. Hey that guys like Chewie! That's what this movie does. Each character is actually representing a SW character. Eh

-
The prequels weren't punishment enough?
-
I originally thought this was a cool concept for a movie and when I heard that Veronica Mars herself would be sporting the metal bikini, I was sold. But that trailer is nothing more than cliches, overdone sight-gags and quotes from Star Wars. Hilarious! NOT!
-
What a geek.
-
Terrible even
-
Would have been better if they actually tried to capture the excitement we all felt leading up to the film's release, and found the real humor and poignancy in that. Instead we get crotch kicks.
-
Wait... yes!..It's all Chewy's fault... He wanted this to get out to there let people know that this was a .. I don't know WTF i'm talking about... I'm gonna go out and beat my head up with an ironing board...
-
You need a stupid movie now and then to even things out.
-
and what was the name of the other movie that had phillip seymour hoffman play harry?
-
I don't mind this film and the way it's probably going to come out.. As long as it ends with them seeing the moive and scream in shear dispointment as the rest of us who had tought Star Wars I was going to be great and saw a fu**ing Jar talk thru the whole movie and not get a laser thru the head at the very begining of the film. If they can protray the disapointment, then let me know and I'll go out and support this movie. If it ends with them loving SW I... then this film should be classified as "Sci-Fi".
-
I've seen the movie, the new cut this trailer is based on. :)
-
Nerds do not score with hot babes like the trailer suggests, I know from experience. Web of lies.
-
I'd rather see a LOTR fanboy flick... but you know, all in all, this does look pretty warm, fun, and humorous. Sign me up.
-
Kristen Bell is very cute
-
Looks like it could be fun, love the SW references :)
-
idk, kinda looks fun...and i agree, i better see them screaming in pain after they see the movie...funny, i was in the 7th grade when Ep.I came out...my god time flies...maybe i could have done more with my life if i hadnt been such a fanboy, spending my days on sites like this....oh well, live and learn
-
Doesn't this premise remind anyone of Detroit Rock City? With Star Wars instead of KISS.
-
"Would have been better if they actually tried to capture the excitement we all felt leading up to the film's release, and found the real humor and poignancy in that." That is funnier than anything in the movie will be.
-
That looks like ass.

So they were able to get the right for using Star Wars
by derlanghaarige
But they use stupid fake Star TREK-uniforms that look like the uniforms from (T)raumschiff Surprise!?!
-
...wasn't someone going to die in the movie?
-
that trailer is funny. if the movie is just nonstop nerd jokes, I am there. and I'm not even a nerd, I just love nerd jokes. and I don't even like making fun of nerds in real life. I just love movies that poke fun at nerddom while implicitly sanctioning their honorable status as devoted fans of their chosen object of nerd desire. so it's this and Trekkies, and Trekkers, basically. NEEEEEEEEEERDS!!!
-
Well, I still remember when the Austin American Statesman did an article on this in like '98/99 about he guy who I guess came up with the idea. He was going to shoot on video or something and Harry was supposed to be in it. Then I heard Newman was making it. He went to NYU with my buddy who is now a DP. And now...here it is. Pretty much what I expected. Can't say I'm totally pumped. Even if Kristen Bell is in it. The 5-25-77 thing is never gonna come out I think. I think he was running low on funds. I heard something through someone who worked on it. That was like a year ago or maybe even more.
-
The only reason to watch this movie.
-
Irony!
-
And I still don't get this 'raped my childhood' crap even after nearly 8 years. I was going to see a sci-fi/fantasy film, not the second coming of Christ which is what a lot people here seemed to have got into their heads it was going to be (which is what this trailer seems to have nailed spot on). As a Star Wars film TPM is certainly the weakest but I'll forgive it faults purely for that 20 seconds where Obi-wan comes from behind that shield with the express intention of fucking up Maul's day. As a film in itself its not that bad and for a much bigger personal feeling of being clusterfucked by a film/s I give you the Matrix sequels. The 2nd one was I felt OK as long as the 3rd made sense and kicked ass which it most certainly did not. In fact, many of my friends and customers (yes I work in a video store so keep the Clerks comments to a minimum please) do not refer to the Matrix Trilogy, just The Matrix because that film kicked unholy ass (And WAS a better film than TPM, AOTC and just edges ROTS just so you know that I'm not a Lucas apologist). I guess it's just personal taste when it comes down to it. I've seen the Star Wars prequels and enjoyed them for what they were made to be, a bit of escapist fun. I hated the Matrix sequels because they were made as action films with designs to say about the human condition which, when you boil down to it, turned out to be 1 hours worth of plot squeezed into 4 with a better than average car chase and a fight between 2 super-humans which was done with with more style, believability and no CGI 30 years ago with Superman II.
-
are you IN this movie? NEEEEEEEERRRDDDD!!!
-
Wow. That looks like every other 'four-buddies-on-a-road-trip' film that claims to call itself a "comedy". And is it me - despite my own love of Star Wars - but aren't the Star Wars references in both pop and geek cultures just really played out at this point? That trailer and the entire idea of the film bore me to death.
-
that not only was it Seth Rogen in make-up, but it was Seth Rogen playing (and quite well, I might add) Gabriel Köerner, the ultimate Star Trek geek. Remember that fuck-tard from Trekkies? Also was the very sadly unbeatable Star Trek geek on Beat The Geeks. With him and Harry both getting star treatment, I wonder what other treats lie in store.....
-
was I first?
-
go peddle your shit somewhere else cos we aint fucking buying. all these years youve been harping on about fanboys and thats it! a piss poor rip off of free enterprise, which itself was pretty piss poor. films like this give us a bad name because people think were only capable of producing crap.
-
I must comment on the prequals. Being an elementary teacher for the last 6 to 7 years or so I cannot believe the popularity that Star Wars has with kids. Believe it or not....ITS NOT the original trilogy that they love its episodes 1, 2 and 3. The majority of costumes this year were star wars based as a matter of fact. I know that the prequals were a disappointment for you all but seriously. Name any other movie that has fighting with laser swords, robots with blasters, many exotic aliens, epic space battles, Yoda kicking ass, the birth of Darth Vader!! To the kids I teach ITS FREAKING SWEET!
-
But i've now changed my mind.
-
Looks like CBS/Paramount didn't want to play along with a comic depiction of Trekkies, again. Same problem in Free Enterprise. You can get Shatner but you can't get the IP. Or maybe with the whole Viacom split you didn't even know who to ask about rights. Do you ask CBS for rights to the TV properties to put in a movie, or do you ask Paramount for movie rights because it's a movie?
-
I thought this was a movie about a dieing kid who's friends sneek him to the Ranch to see EPI because he won't live to see it?
-
I know you've taught elementary school for the last 6 to 7 years, so this probably hasn't come up, but it's spelled PREQUEL, not prequal.
-
...also loved the original trilogy. It's perfectly OK to love each in their own ways.
I've seen two of the original trilogy on their first run(s), all special editions, and midnight shows of each of the 'new' films... had an absolute blast at each one. Cheered for Maul, cheered for Yoda fight, and witnessed grown men cry at the immolation scene... bought the John Williams soundtracks and Duel of the Fates (not to mention Battle of the Heroes) makes me smile... .seriously. Let it end once and for all...for the utter vast majority of human beings the prequels were extraordinarily entertaining.
Hell, when you think you're gonna get another chance to buy Sam Jackson on a Froot Loops box? Yeah, thought so... -
I still think you should have done that Children of the Corn remake/sequel but this looks like a fun movie.
-
Where the fuck is your Borat review, Harold?? It's only the most freakin hilarious and controversial movie of the year!
-
disappointed I bet. Wow, that'll be a shocker. Hating on TPM is overdone. I thought it was fine for what it was, though I never was totally in love with the original trilogy to begin with.
-
For Serious.
-
Yes it is Seth Rogen in Prosthetics..Almost Human did the work on him and I found step by step pics of the process here:
