OctoButt-Numb-A-Thon submissions closed. The Decision Process Begins...

Published at: Oct. 26, 2006, 9:46 a.m. CST

Hey folks, Harry here... At some point in the next 24 hours - I'll be finalizing the list of attendees for the 8th Annual BUTT-NUMB-A-THON, known simply as OCTOBUTTNUMBATHON!!! This year - I received 6,749 submissions. I've been reading them as they have been coming in and have been pulling names into a "finalist" folder. Right now, I've got about 725 of those. In the "Confirmed" folder there's 151 folks that have currently made the "cut". I've got roughly 50 more names to pick - and this is where it gets very very hard. I will be going through the 725 applications and reread all of those, look at the photos and make a judgement call. This is where some regulars will not make the cut and where other BNAT virgins get a break. At the same time, I've just received lists of several thousand vintage 35mm prints to begin to pick the vintage portion of the festival. I'm also in the process of contacting the various studios about their new prints they've struck of classic films or rare gems to put into the mix. And the premieres... It's looking very very good this year. Just wanted to give those of you that wanted an update, the latest on what's happening. Best of luck. Harry

picking through all the film selections. Don't ignore the lovely Yoko, though! She won't take it kindly, and we wouldn't want you to end up like the prop the 'illegal immigrant' alien had at the start of MIB.

    Please pop my BNAT cherry

I'm one of the virgin applicants that Harry mentioned. Just writing "applicants" makes me think Harrison Ford is going to come after me in some weird, pseudo-movie related way. Hmm, now I wonder if I should have chosen a name that actually reflected my e-mail address or something... Harry, look for the Hong family (party of 2) application! I kinda just pictured that old movie Harry and the Hendersons where I'd have the muppet Harry on the hood of my car. I really need to get out of my office today.

    by Retlaw Kciuq

I just realized now that I forgot to send my ultra lame photo with the email. Oh well, I don't think I'll be selected anyway but I know I shot myself in the foot by forgetting that photo. I don't have a camera anyway.

Where is the best place to stay in Austin then?

    by John-Locke

Is the Renaissance Austin the place most out of town OCTOBNATers will be staying or is that quite pricey?

    within walking distance

    by smallerdemon

Hampton Inn is within walking distance and it is quite nice and not too pricey. Free breakfast too (although stay away from the coffee and just head to Halcyon). The Omni is also within walking distance, but can vary in price quite a bit. Lots of folks like to stay at the Austin Hotel, and I have before, but the beds are "eh" and it's a long trek to the Drafthouse on foot.
