Robert Zemeckis' BEOWULF is gonna poke you in the eye, viking style!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here! When I jumped over to the BEOWULF film offices earlier this year (read all about that here!!!), I was told that Robert Zemeckis was negotiating a day and date Real D/IMAX 3-D release of this film, but the interesting part was the IMAX negotiations were to run the NC-17 version of the movie in 3D, while the PG-13 version played regular theaters. That's a tough sell as the MPAA frowns upon multiple ratings for the same movie, worried about mommys and daddys accidentally taking their kids to an NC-17 when they thought they were seeing PG-13. Although, doesn't NC-17 mean no kids at all, even with parents? Logic is flawed, but it's the MPAA, what do you expect?

Anyway, the trades have a story this morning confirming that BEOWULF will get a day and date Real D and "other large format 3-D" on as many as 1000 Real D theaters and many more "larger format 3-D" theaters. This would be the largest Real D same day release in the history of the medium. That day, by the way, is November 16th, 2007.

If you read my report above, you'll see that I found this process fascinating. I hope we get that NC-17 version theatrically, in 3-D... If any story called for it, it'd be BEOWULF. What do you folks think?
