That ERAGON Trailer Is Now HD-ier!!

Published at:  Oct 24, 2006 8:02:46 PM CDT

Merrick here...

Before we go any further, I should probably note that
I haven't read any of THE INHERITANCE TRILOGY (which ERAGON begins), but I'm told it's a sloppy orgasm of shameless derivation.

As such, I can't offer any context for this trailer beyond a face value assessment. And that assessment is? Lots of dizzying aerial acrobatics + the same old fantasy settings/costumes/archetypes we've seen more times than we can count = "meh."

Nonetheless, we thought you'd like to know that apple.com has now posted the ERAGON trailer in HD.

No dialogue, no performances, and lots of dragons. You do the math.

This being said, I'm all for a kickass dragon movie -- I don't think we've had a really good one since DRAGONSLAYER. DRAGONHEART was kinda embarrassing and stupid & REIGN OF FIRE was heading the right direction but still missed the mark. And then, of course, there's DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS...which was, well, you know what I'm talking about. It had Jeremy Irons in it...just like ERAGON...a harbinger already noted by geeks far and wide.

Am I missing any other dragon movies of note? Been a really long day...

The kids love the books. They are derivative, yes, but like Harry Potter, which borrows from all sorts of literature, it does so in an entertaining way. It's not to the level of Harry Potter, but these books are good simple shameless diversion. The second book's story is better than the first one, but it's writing is weaker.

    by lezbo milk

this movie will likely not do so well. Being based on a childs book (and written by a child) I hold out no hope for it. The problem is, the brilliant studio executives currently farting in the seats of power all across Hollywood, will take this movies failure as a lack of interest in "Dragon" films (which we call Fantasy in geekdom). Hence, we will wait another decade for a new set of suits (who at this time are probably executive assistants filling the coffee cups of the current crop of dipshits). It's a vicious fucking cycle man.

    The bullshit about "young authors"

    by canadian cricket team fanclub

I have infinite more respect for the thirty-somethings (and older) who, despite the pressures of a full-time job, mortgages, bills, kids and enormous self-doubt, manage to write a book and get it published. Older people who get published despite the odds are fucking amazing and deserve our respect more than a snotty teenager whose parents are writers. Any fucking 15-year-old can bum around on weekends and during recess, writing dragon stories (especially if they have publisher/writer parents). They have the time and the freedom that adults lack. Take Raymond Carver for example, he wrote in his fucking car parked in the driveway after working two jobs all day, with a wife and kids. THAT is fucking amazing. Mr & Mrs Paolini cooked little Christopher's meals and washed his laundry for him. THAT is the fucking difference between an author who deserves respect, and a kid who's been hyped up by moronic sock puppet adults.

Thank you for saying that! Dear God I feel better now. I'm one of those writers in their late thirties, struggling to pay the bills and take care of my child, sweating my balls off to finish a third rewrite of an epic novel that I'm certain my agent in NYC will reject. My first book is for sale on Amazon for about a buck fifty and ranked in the low millions. Check it out. There are no fucking dragons. http://www.amazon.com/Stolen-Gypsies-Noble-Smith/dp/188399182X/ref=ed_oe_p/104-7761475-0531915?ie=UTF8

My favourite line from Eragon is, '"Sorry," apologized Brom'. But that's enough bitching from me -- Paolini's living a wealthier life than I and gets the last laugh. At least after watching the Eragon trailer, Le Guin can no longer bitch about what Goro Miyazaki has done to her Earthsea ...

Has there been that much overacting in a film since "Dungeons and Dragons"? I'm curious. Also, your negativity and apparent illiteracy is astounding. Look, he's no Tolkien, you get the feeling you're reading something by a gifted 15-year old all the way through, but come on. I can't wait to see it, personally. Even if most of the people I tell the book or film about have never heard of it. Ever.

    by pornking

I haven't read this book, but let's give a little credit where credit's due. ANY 15 yr old that writes a book that actually gets published and widely read deserves respect. The only thing you're looking at is the time constraints of 15 yr olds vs. 30-somethings. Let's see, oh, how about the EDUCATION LEVEL of the people we're talking about?!? a friggin 9th grader vs. someone that's had an opportunity to go to college and beyond. And why didn't the 30-something write a book when THEY had all this free time? Geez, I understand the plight of folks that are having mid-life crises and want to go down a different career path, but there's a reason why quite a few more 30-somethings get published than 15-yr olds-- it's much more rare to have that level of focus, dedication, and ability at such a young age. So chill out and don't be a hater, ya heard?

    by hatramroany

To be honest we haven't had a fantasy movie with dragons for a while. It will fill the void this holiday of any big blockbuster (like seriously there are none). It has an installed base, not as big as HP but bigger then Lemony Snicket which made 114 million (then again it did have Jim Carey). I'm not sure it will completely suck, and for a better evaluation on its suckiness there is a trailer with dialouge.

    by canadian cricket team fanclub

Er, you do know that Paolini's parents are writers/publishers, and it was they who got their son's book published? If every 30-something wannabe writer had publishers for parents, they would've been fucking published at the age of 15 too. It's not what you know, but who you know. There are teenagers (and younger) who are far better writers than Paolini could ever dream of becoming, but their books will never see the light of day because of the simple fact that they don't have publisher parents. Crap is crap, no matter how much tinsel and pretty paper you wrap it up in. And what the fuck are you doing talking about a kids book with the name "PornKing"?!! That's sick.

Chill the fuck out. It's a a fantasy tale for teens. Nobody's forcing you to see it, though I suspect all you cunt faced fuckers will. Yes the series is derivative but who the fuck cares? It's not tryign to be Lord of the Fucking Rings. It's escapist fun just like Star Wars, a franchise that was fine until Lucas and his fans started taking it too seriously. I for one am looking forward to the movie as I am a fan of the books, and that trailer made the movie look quite exciting. Design-wise it looks like they have caputred jus tthe right feel. I was worried we were going to get a dragon to cartoony looking liek the one on the cover with the mona Lisa smirk. The filmmakers seemed to have captured just the right blend of bad-ass dragon, as Saphira no doubt is, but also seemed to have found a good level of character expression as she is a self-aware "person" in the books.
