LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD Casting!! The Bad Guy!! John McClane's Super Hot Daughter!!

Merrick here...
A few weeks back, reported that Jeffrey Wright had been cast as the villain in LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD (a title I still kind of despise). Evidentaly, this report was not entirely accurate. This morning, Hollywood Reporter indicates that DEADWOOD's Timothy Olyphant will apear as Bruce's bane in the new film. He's also been seen in GO, the GONE IN 60 SECONDS remake, and DREAMCATCHER. Here's what he looks like:

Also cast in LFODH is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, playing John McClane's daughter.
That's little Lucy?!?! Man does this make me feel old...and a tad lecherous. Of course, screwing around with John McClane's daughter would probably make for a really bad day. Winstead's character, by the way, did not apear in the draft of the script I reviewed HERE. When Wright was said to be in the film, many folks thought it was pretty cool. So, how does this Olyphant news impact Wright? Was he ever in the movie to begin with? Is he in it, but as a different character? If you know, please E-MAIL ME. I'll post an update if anyone can shed light on Jeffrey's disposition.

    God, she's hot!

    by abiggerboat

    I would, even though it's McClane's daughter!!

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 9:18 a.m. CST

    by abiggerboat

Timothy Olyphant can play quite a good psycho! I'm still praying to the film gods that that film doesn't turn out shit though as the title on the film and the recent stills didn't exactly fill me with confidence.

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 9:18 a.m. CST

    Dont care about McClanes family

please please please, Len Wiseman, dont make this stupid. Dont do it. I know you want to. I know you want to have it in Maryland with cyber terrorists...but dont mess with the classics. Aw who am I kidding, it's going to suck

    Timothy Olyphant

    by Franklin T Marmoset

This is some good news for Live Free Or Die Hard. Timothy Olyphant is good at the charming asshole type characters, which is great for a Die Hard villain. He was great in The Girl Next Door. Also, I like the stubborn daftness of the title of this film - it feels appropriate somehow.

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 9:22 a.m. CST

    Lordy, she IS hot!

Holee crap! Why have I never heard of her before? She's a smokin' hot potato, she is!

Underwhelming choice for one of the killers, IMO. Hell both of them were. Scream 2 sucked.

    by BizarroJerry

This is McClane's "estranged" daughter, right? Not to mention she's dating someone he wouldn't approve of... C'mon, Hollywood, prove me right. I know you will.

For a TV show's hero (on Deadwood), he always seems to be on the verge of snapping and killing every cocksuker in town.

    by abominate

...she is 25, or at the very least 24 going on 25. But you're right, she looks younger, and like most people I don't care. I don't go see Die Hard movies to see McLane's family.

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 10:49 a.m. CST

Well, I am seeing this possibly sucky movie now...

    by Bones

Because Seth Bullock is the baddie and the "bad girl" from Sky High is the daughter. Yeah, I saw "Sky High". Wanna make fun of me? You obviously haven't seen it or how hot Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in it. No, seriously--when she shows up in the movie, bad thoughts pop in a young man's brain. Or a middle aged man. Or a progressive young woman's brain as the middle aged man watches...THE POINT IS: She is really, really hot. I think I need a cold shower...and new pants.

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 11:03 a.m. CST

    by KillingJoke

Bullock was in an extremely gay movie about a gay baseball team that had the kid from Scrubs and the host of Ripley's believe it or Not on it. It sounds made up but it's true. They used to show it on IFC.

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 11:12 a.m. CST

Did you write for Deadwood? Because that was spot on. And hilarious. Olymphant will problably turn to McClane and say "Yipee-Ki-Ay Cocksucker." Then McClane will kill his helicoipter with a power line.

I'm glad we have a member of the McClane family...

    by dr_buggerlugs

...a big part of the Die Hard films, especially the first two was the personal stake McClane had in each situation (ie, Holly)...Die Hard 3 kinda subverted that by giving the personal stake to the villain but having a McClane sprog getting into the midst of it is kinda encouraging, giving McClane that personal stake again. Plus I'm hoping we get a two pronged baddie attack; Wright as the more cerebral bad guy and Olyphant as the psycho (remember that Karel was effectively as major a villain in the first film)...then we'd be rockin'.

  • Oct. 20, 2006, 11:39 a.m. CST

    Timothy Olyphant

    by Gristle

Olyphant's always been the weakest part of Deadwood's great cast. His overused slow burn makes him look like he's constipated all the time. I think most people like him because of the character he plays, and not how he plays it. They should have gotten Judi Dench to play Hans Gruber's mother, out for revenge.

Just saw new boss-man today. Is blurry. This is scariest man I ever hench for. Blurry Man. Brrrr. My mission is to whack Bald One. Boss Man says I am good for job because I don't get Bald One's one liners and won't get pissed off. I tell Boss Man I don't do drugs any more (I lie). So, like, I go to sneak up on Bald One and I meet Bald One's daughter. I go into super-suave mode. "Hey,bebe," I say. I take her to Capitalist Snakepit called Starbucks but I blow everything by getting too pissed off when I tell Coffee Monkey, "I want coffee black" and Coffee Monkey say, "You want room for cream?" and I say "What the fuck do you think black mean, Coffee Monkey?" and I take over place but one thing I didn't bagain on...Bald One in the men's room. He comes out and shove DeCaff Mochlatte up my ass. Lucky to escape with my ass life. I show you, Bald One! Hot daughter give me phone number!

i've always thought of him as one of the baddest asses in deadwood, which is quite a statement. i'm used to seeing him as a hero, but i'm sure he's a good enough actor to pull off a great villain role (yes i've seen the girl next door, but i thought that part was written kinda strangely).

I guess somebody watched 24 and decided they could use that formula too. Let's see, the subplot will have McCane's daughter placed in danger/kidnapped at least twice during the movie (24 ratio is once per 45 minutes) with a larger terrorist threat getting the majority of McCane's attention.

Thanks for asking, Frank. I've seen Olyphant in a couple movies and he was okay. I have no idea who the girl is but apparently dudes masturbate to pictures of her and that makes her good for the role? That is what I am hearing here. I am neutral on this casting. I was much more impressed by the idea of Jeffrey Wright being in it, so I'm hoping he's another character and not just a made up rumor or a guy they almost cast. He seems closer to the league of the previous Die Hard villains, although maybe if I'd seen Deadwood I would have a higher opinion of Mr. Olyphant.

reminds me a lot of Michael Biehn actually (minus all the military roles), not just physically, but also in the way that he adds so much to even smaller supporting roles or lesser quality films that he ends up cast in, so good to see him getting more a-list work. Anyone ever read the book the original Die Hard was...

    by redtom

..based on? In Nothing Lasts Forever (by Roderick thorpe), the McClane character (called Joe Leland) was about 55 yrs old, and going to meet his daughter for christmas at the Nakatomi Plaza - maybe they'll work a bit of that in here, which would be cool...

    At last

    by Fenton Meiks

Some good news about Live Free..., fuck that, Die Hard 4. Olyphant has been uniformly excellent in everything I've seen him. So, Go, Deadwood, and The Girl Next Door then. Al Swearengen would have been great as the villain though! (Or Lovejoy, to give him his real name)

Celine Dion/John Cena rap duet for IMAX "Marine"

    by darthbinks1220

WWE is releasing a digital 3-D presentation of "The Marine" in 169 venues across North America. The new song will serve as a prologue, at these IMAX locations. Usually musical interludes are played only during exhibitions of epics like "Ben-Hur" and "Gone With The Wind". While I feel "The Marine" is on a par w/those classics, it's short running time negates the need of another theme song. It's just Vince McMahon bilking moviegoers, imho.

    Stupid Fucking Title...

Worst title for a movie other than Batman Forever. Really, it's just Willis's attempt to put his touch of his right-wing ideology in the movie.... saying, terrorists hate our freedoms.... such utter Bush shit.

Olyphant makes an awesome villian any day...

    by Monkey_King

like a psychotic Michael Biehn. These two should play brothers in a film someday, they look so much alike.
