David Fincher's ZODIAC gets a beautiful poster!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I don't know what it is, but we've seen some gorgeous posters this year. The V FOR VENDETTA campaign, the recently posted PERFUME one-sheet, PAN'S LABYRINTH, etc. Now we have this awesome ZODIAC poster. I grew up in the Bay Area and I'm very aware of just how haunting and beautiful the fog of San Francisco can be. This poster is ominous, but gorgeous... Don't know if it screams out "serial killer" movie, but it sure is purty! Congrats to JoBlo for getting the premiere! Enjoy the poster, folks!

why not "from the director of se7en and fight club"?
-
so there.
-
I don't need any encouragement to see a new David Fincher flick but I agree, this poster has a lure about it. I just hope its more Seven and less Panic Room.
-
Actually, it's kinda lame.
-
But it seems to be about a foggy bridge.
I must admit that I'm a little bit curious about this one anyway, because after three very hard sucking movies, Fincher made the best film of the 90's and then an entertaining thriller. So this one could be worth a look on DVD. -
but i agree panic room was very lackluster even with foster chewing the scenery get back to the roots like se7en and fight club fincher has talent!
-
the poster can be a still life rendering of a steaming shit, for all i care, I just want a good movie
-
This film could be amazingly amazing!
-
Damn fast typing
-
"ZODIAC: This city's going nuts!"
-
Damn you Michael Bay
-
*different* kinds of atoms
-
Panic Room sucked and Fight Club is the most overrated movie ever. The only outright good film he has made was "Se7en," and I came close to condemning that one because of the stupid 7 is a "v" thing. Either Zodiac is a case of a director cannabalizing his own work, or he's returning to the roots of his one truly good movie.
-
is if Uwe Boll was directing. Oh, and in the end, instead of having stupid talking books or whatever, it's just Boll kicking someone's ass in the boxing ring. Hells yeah!
-
and Fight Club was rightly rated. And I thought this poster was elegant. Glad to know I was wrong on all accounts.
-
Very creepy shot of the Golden Gate. Can't wait for this movie, should be good.
-
So there.
-
Seriously, Fincher can do no wrong. To all the Alien 3 haters- suck it. Its the REAL sequel to the first one. Ohhh, it dosnt have any space marines-it must suck.NO! its beautifully shot, and anyone whos watched the dvd can get a sense of how f'd the production was. Alien is gothic horror, end of story. Now why isn't fight club on the poster? easy. Its a Chuck Palahniuk book translated by Fincher. Seven and Panic room are original "noirish" films, like this one. Oh, and Panic Room was UNDERrated if anything. Seriously, whats not to like about a movie loaded with cool dark performances that takes place in a small place in one night? Any other director woulda screwed that one up big time. end of rant.
-
The best poster campaign of 2006, in my opinion has to be "The Good German".. followed by V..
This one isn't bad either.. -
Yeah, Bobafettish is right. Any other director would have screwed that up as bad if not worse than Fincher did. At the very least Fincher was able to add a cool 'camera going through small shit' shot to that piece of crap. The film was doomed the second they revealed the intruders to be incompetent Home Alone villains.
Panic Room aside, I love Fincher's style and if this has a decent script it could be great. -
I like it. It doesn't alienate the female audience. The police sketches of the Zodiac Killer with the bag over his head still gives me chills, and something like that could have easily been used, along with some of the code and some of the letters he wrote... but is it necessary? Nope. This works fine. I am excited how this movie seems to be more about the men the men who are hunting him down. A nice balance between All the President's Men and Se7en. Works for me.
-
To avoid confusion with that other Zodiac movie that came out/is coming out?
-
I think the other one was such a little watched stinker that they said, "Why not?"
-
He can't close the deal. Why do all of his endings have to suck even when the rest of the movie is usually pretty good or great? And 7 is boring. Sorry. I know there are laws against admitting that.
-
That's why it's not mentioned on the poster and Panic Room is. FC is loved by movie geeks but the general public didn't care for it.
-
is a wolverine.
-
On that image, to get the ACTUAL poster. It's a very moody shot of San Fran from the perspective of a misty Golden Gate bridge. Not sure if anyone caught that, or if I'm just living in the dark... Zing.
-
Has it been changed back?
-
Hopefully, the movie will be better than the tagline. Ouch.
-
Okay, okay... my overpriced in-law apartment.
Are you happy now?! -
Fincher took a TOTALLY UNFILMABLE book and turned out a visually stunning, perfectly paced masterpiece of a movie. The fascist philosophy that drives the plot isn't supposed to be agreed with- it's a brilliantly subtle polemic on male isolation, gangs and their relation to fascism.... Fincher even got a performance out of Brad Pitt that wasn't terribly crappy. Far superior the the similar (and overrated) American Beauty
-
which a read about years ago, sounded 1,000 times better than what we ended up getting.
-
Seriously, what is so good about this.
-
It examines male isolation my ass. It was average at best, and the "Twist" that is suppose to be great is so fucking stupid beyond belief.
-
And am glad to see some posters this year without a ton of floating heads. Though you know they'll slap those on for the DVD release...
-
and it tanked at the Box Office, got shitty ratings and a Fox executive got fired over it. That's called the opposite of overrated. Aliens 3 was overrated, even though everyone hated it. They just didn't hate it enough. how are people saying it looked good? the whole movie was shot in a boiler room and the alien was shitty stop motion. But I digress. Anyway, best use of the bridge since A View to a Kill.
-
this is one of my top "must see" movies of 2007. i agree with the guy who said "the good german" has the best poster of the year though.
-
Aliens 3 was a boxoffice disaster, so your argument about FC bombing works there too. How can it be overrated?
-
Awesome
-
Seems like forever... And Fincher is golden for another 5 years at least due to Fight Club. Anyone who doesn't like it... the line for Bay's next movie is over there.
-
CHRONICLES? That was a shite title.
-
In saying that Alien 3 was so bad that despite the bad reviews and poor BO, it was still overrated. To be fair though, Fincher says he didn't like the final version and I didn't see his cut. And it was his first big movie as a director, I think. I couldn't really get into the Game but some of my friends that I usually agree with liked it so maybe I didn't give it a chance.
-
The story of the Zodiac killer is quite terrifying. I hope this movie is scary as fuck. However, if they don't give it a limited opening at the end of this year I will be worried. Because without that, the January opening doesn't bode well.
-
Sorry but that poster's boring. Reckon the film will be worth a look though.
-
Talk about taking a great sc-fi/horror movie and completely removing all the good stuff and throwing in horribly cliched "space marines" and you've got ALIENS. Ugh. Cameron hasn't made a really good flick since the original Terminator.
-
Even though my expectations for the film are low (love Fincher, but the script they settled on is weak not at all based on reality like they are claiming).
-
Not in the movies anyway. Now they are of course but that's because of video games ripping off Aliens. I don't see how Alien, which was basically a haunted house movie, was any better than Aliens just because it wasn't as loud. They're both good, just different.
-
you fucking yank retard.
maybe if you read you'd get it.
dickless chimp -
I like ALIENS as much as the next guy. But when ya make a sequel to one of the most BEAUTIFUL films ever,(seriously, theres more eye candy in Alien than a dozen of todays sci-fi's) you dont film it in crappy 1:28/1 and make the whole thing BLUE. Now, ok, every director is entitled to do their thang, but c'mon, Cameron saw the Alien and thought "Whoa id sure like to put a hundred of those in a nuclear reactor and have some soldiers shoot at em". So yeah......Fincher rules, ridley Scott Rules, and i'm gonna go watch Blade Runner. :)
-
where did you read the script?
cause i have read both books it is based on and well they are kinda as focussed on the men involved with the case as much as the killer, why isnt it based on reality???
tell tell -
movie that came before it. You know the lower budget one.
-
... the poster for THE BRIDGE, an upcoming documentary:
http://tinyurl.com/v7k5y
Not sure if I can get too excited about ZODIAC, especially based on the poster, but hey... Wish David the best. I miss his old form. -
Anyone who didn't like Fight Club and Seven is not someone I want to know and you taste in movies is questionable at best. Panic Room on the other hand...
And that poster looks good. You people are so goddamn picky. -
because the studio probably figures that would alienate a large portion of the female audience (with whom Panic Room was a moderate hit).
-
Panic Room!? How about Fight Club? That was at least a GOOD movie. Might was well read: From the director of Se7en and Alien3
-
David Fincher is a man god.
-
should helm Lullaby, or Jane Eyre, since it's pretty similar.
-
I love Fincher as much as the next guy but that doesn't make Aliens any less of a classic. It had a great scipt (so many funny line), broadly drawn but memorable characters, a great Ripley, fantastic action scenes that still hold up today, actual scares, and a great ending. Aliens is one of the best sequels and a great example of what Camerocn is like when he's on the ball. Amazing that it's yet another film that talkbackers hate.
-
...pretty much establish the idea of "space Marines"?
-
Just saying.
-
It's crazy to think that Fight Club has been out nearly 7 years, because everytime I watch it, I catch something new and it still seems more modern than half the shite that gets put out now. Talk about something that was ahead of it's time. The twist is overplayed now, but back then, when I saw it in the theater fresh out of high school, they fucking HAD me. For the years of entertainment that I've gotten just out of Fight Club, I'll be giving Fincher my money opening night.
-
Nah, I guess not. Cool poster, looking forward to the movie. And for the record: Aliens rocks, ( I can't believe there's any doubt about how great it is.) Alien3 sucked, (but not because of Fincher) Seven is a modern horror classic, and Fight Club is pure genius. (The Game and Panic Room were good, but ultimately flawed films)
-
You have all lost your fucking minds!! slone13, I guarantee that if you saw Aliens in a theater in 1986, you were not thinking "Ugh, uber-cliched space marines, how many more movies will I be forced to watch with space marines!!" In 1986, no one had ever heard of such a thing, unless they were huge Robert Heinlein fans. The fact is, Alien AND Aliens both bear repeat viewings in my house any day over Alien3. I respect it, I simply don't really want to watch it ever again. Clearly, we won't even bring up Resurrection. As far as Aliens being a "hollow male fantasy with" too many aliens, it was Cameron's creative duty to try and do something different than the first one, or everyone would just be saying "rehash, sell-out". The best series stay fresh with this approach. The ones that don't turn into a joke, or a cliche fest.
-
About damn time.
-
you would hate it.
-
And rightfully so. The reason it didnt score awards is because it spoke to a generation that doesn't vote on that sort of thing en masse. Now its got a MUCH bigger following and name recognition than Panic Room which was forgettable by every stretch other than the cinematography. The material was simply beneath the filmmaking talent. Oh and Aliens was awesome, no arguments.
-
btw when will we see a hulk2...
nice poster. and i dont know if its me but i see a slight outline of a man...
i think with fincher...setting the standard for the quick cut..noisy...shaky...gritty style editing i think its time for an evolution in finchers world. hopefully hes aware of it and has stepped his game up.
alpha dog out!
-
I'm interested in the movie, but the poster is nothing special... The Fountain and Grindhouse posters have been very cool...
-
'why not "from the director of se7en and fight club"?' [/br] For the win!
-
Indeed.
-
Almost bought it but wussed out, not knowing what I was going to get. And rest assured, it wasn't a different movie. All the cast and crew are listed as the same on the back, except for Fincher, who's replaced by some weird unknown director.
Anyway, so anyone interested in checking that out... I have no idea if they're doing it in other stores, but they were pretty heavily stocked on this movie. -
I read this last year and if they keep the suspense and pacing of the film, a sure winner. Its the best script I've read in a long time
-
It looks like a girl's eyes and the tear on her face!
-
about to write a review for the site
-
Panic Romm - 2/10
Se7en - 5/10
Fight Club - 4/10
Aliens - 5/10
The GAme - 8 (minus 4 for the ending)/10
Now that's a good director! Riiiiiiiiiight. -
i bet your father is so proud he wasted a load on you, do you realise just how stupid you come accross with those ratings/
I weep I really do.
I think you'll find it's called Panic Room not romm.
dear god I fear for the world with people like you lose in it I really do. -
Ruined the movie, and that's a fact.
-
I'm I the only one annoyed by this retard putting the same fucking post every single day on every single talkback?
-
I like Fight Club. I own Fight Club. And everytime I want to love Fight Club, that cheap, abysmal out-of-left-field ending happens. Know where cheap, abysmal endings don't happen? IN MASTERPIECES!
-
Thanks KanekoFan for setting me straight on that. Could have sworn there were a bunch of CGI shots in there, I'm thinking of the scenes where the alien is chasing the men through the tunnels and they are successively shutting the doors on it to pen it in (or have I got *that* wrong too!?).. anyway all these years I thought it was shitty CGI, turns out it was shitty animatronics ;-)
