More looks at BOFINGER'S BIG THING!
Here's more word on BOFINGER'S BIG THING from a pair of attendees last night... SOunds like they had a bit of fun with the flick...
Saw "Bowfinger" at a test
screening in Universal City tonight. Very, very, very funny. Half smart,
half
silly, with a side of sweet. To put it in "The Player" speak, it's "Ed Wood"
meets "The Truman Show" meets, appropriately enough, "L.A. Story". The
premise is Steve Martin's a down on his luck producer who makes a film
starring Eddie Murphy's character - he plays the world's biggest action star
-
without Eddie knowing. And of course, hilarity ensues.
It's also got a
nice
subplot that skewers Scientology. And - not to give too much away - Eddie
plays another character as well. And it's probably the funniest thing in
the movie. It's definitely Eddie's funniest movie in quite some time. You
heard it here first - "Bowfinger" will be big. Rock on.
Then there is this review....
First time contributing. Just saw a preview of the Frank Oz comedy
BOWFINGER,
written by Steve Martin and starring Martin along with Eddie Murphy and
Heather Graham. What can I say? It's hilarious. Another great Valentine
to
Los Angeles, though not as surreal as L.A. Story. Martin plays Bowfinger, a
down and nearly out producer who comes across what he feels is a
breakthrough
hit screenplay and the only way he can get it made is to get the hottest
action star in the world to be in it, Kit Ramsey (played beautifully by
Eddie
Murphy). The trouble is, Kit won't even look at the script. So what does
Bowfinger do? He shoots the movie with Kit anyway, except Kit doesn't know
it. It's a pretty rediculous plot, but it all works well together. The
cast
is spectacular and everyone in it is playing a hyper-real example of a
Hollywood movie person. And as is par for Murphy, he also plays Kit's
brother. This movie should be a hit and shows that Martin AND Murphy still
have what it takes. Very, very funny.

Bowfinger's Big Thing was one of the coolest sounding titles to come along in years. Now Universal's totally ruined it by shortening it to the lameass Bowfinger. Why must Universal continue to shoot themselves in the foot? They make great flicks, but their marketing deparment sucks. Were they afraid people would think the movie was a porno? If so, then they didn't help matters because now everyone's gonna think that it's a sequel to Bulworth.

Oh, you must have ONE more pair? No. Not one more....Unless of course, you would like to try....THE CRUEL SHOOOOOZE. -- GET THEM! -- Carlos disappeared into the back room and then suddenly, reappeared carrying an ordinary-looking shoebox. But this was no ORDINARY shoebox. Inside were a pair of hideous-looking black and white pumps. One had a right angled turn with a vice and razorblades to keep the foot in place. -- PUT THEM ON ME!

Glad to see some more positive reviews for this histerical movie.
UNiversal, don't change the title! -
The title is perfect, don't shorten it to Bofinger... This title alone would get me to watch the movie, but Bofinger? that's dull and doesn't tell anything about the movie. Leave the "Big Thing" in I say!!! This movie sounds great, the premise alone has me laughing. And it sounds perfect for Steve martin
-
...she'll coax lots of people into the theater. :^) I'm glad
to see her able to demonstrate such a wide range.
But it is also great news to hear that Martin has written another
great comedy. Sounds like good
news if Oz can make it work.
If you can find a copy of "Cruel
Shoes" by all means buy one but
good luck finding it! -
I have a suggestion. Why dont you do a poll, or at least do an article, of, say, the 5 most anticipated movies of the year. 1999 looks like one of the best years weve had in a while (at least in this crappy decade). You should do something that gets people pumped for these specific movies... but which movies? Thats why you do a poll. My choices are 5) Matrix 4) Austin Powers 2 3) The Blair Witch Project 2) Eyes Wide Shut (any other year that would be definately #1, but...) 1) The Phantom Menace. Well?
