Moon Yun Has
Seen LOST 3.1!!

I am – Hercules!! TAKE THAT SPOILER WARNING SERIOUSLY!! And note that we've cloaked large chunks of this post in invisotext!! Before we check in with Ain’t It Cool’s Pacific Islands editor, Moon Yun Choi, Harry got this from “Greig”: Hi harry, Just to let you know that there were some interesting facts in yesterdays Scotland edition of The Daily Star about Lost Season 3. Don't know how reliable they are as the paper is a tabloid more known for its Girls with there boobs out than journalism. They said that in Season 3 : * Mr Ecko will be deaf (He will take this as a sign from god) * The island is invisible to the outside world as a result of the super magnet that needs the button pressed. Since the big discharge at the end of 2 that's how they found it on the radar. * You will find out more about "The Others" including their history and that they have an underwater base!!! Hope this is helpful and true...but you never know..... As the man says, consider the source. Here now is our own time-tested Moon Yun, who saw the season premiere with her own two Hawaiian eyes. Aloha, Moon Yun Choi signing in from Hawaii where I was just at the LOST 3rd season premiere where some 13,000 fans got to see the first episode before the rest of the country. Yes, it was a romantic evening. We got to watch the LOST episode on the beach of Waikiki , at night under the stars. I was disappointed that I couldn’t get credentials to go to the media line or to at least sit in the VIP section. Oh, well. I still got to watch the premiere with the rest of the folks, and still maintain my sanity even with people walking back and forth in front of me. Most of the stars were there, in addition to a couple of new cast members – Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet and Rodrigo Santoro as Paulo. The first episode of the 3rd season started in a powerful way. We see the Others enjoying their civilized life when all of a sudden they hear that noise that crashed the airplane. They show the plane break in half and camera pulls back to show where the Other camps were in relation to where the LOST people crashed. When we left off last season, Sawyer, Kate and Jack were prisoners of the Others. This season we get to see what happens to them but we don’t know why. Sawyer got thrown in a cage, and of course there’s a huge button he shouldn’t touch but he does. Kate was made to take a shower and put on a new, pretty dress. She was escorted to a beach where Henry Gale was having an elegant breakfast. She’s made to put on a handcuff. Henry warns her that it will be tough for them in the next two weeks. And he wasn’t kidding. Kate’s arms were bleeding around her the handcuff and she was nearly in tears. They put her in a cage next to Sawyers. The most intense was Jack’s captivity. He was trying to kick open the glass window but was having trouble. He kept having flashbacks to that time he was going through a divorce with his former wife. A mysterious woman shows up – Juliet – and tries to make friends with Jack. She insists she brings him food and makes him promise he won’t escape. She tricks him into telling her his innermost thoughts and yearnings. I dunno. The Others are some pretty bad ‘brothers. Moon Yun signing out…

I have yet to watch an episode on tv. I have always waited for the dvd's so I could watch 2 or more episodes at a time. I finished the second season in about 2 and a half days. I might watch the premiere then wait for the dvds.

This whole mob mentality for Lost kicks in with me and I think I hate the show, but when it gets right down to it, this show is great.

    by JJarvis

I vowed at the end of last season that I wasn't going to waste my time with this show anymore. It simply doesn't go anywhere. They have a few good episodes, and then it's back to dragging their feet. Wait and see. This show needs resolve itself and then end. I'm worried that the same thing is going to happen to Prison Break. These shows get popular and the networks won't let them come to a logical and fulfilling conclusion. Instead they milk it for all it's worth and destroy the show in the process. The reason I like 24 is because they finally resolve things at the end of the season. I think these kinds of shows need to have a built in termination date regardless of how popular they become. Unfold the story well for two or three seasons and then conclude it already.

    Last LOST season(s)

    by vivavitalogy

It would be nice to see a solid show like this end on a high note. A 3 or 4 season show w/o any filler episodes or absurd story lines would be beneficial to all television as a whole. Lost helped put ABC back on the map and they obviously want to stay there so I'm sure they plan to stretch this thing out until it becomes a hideous mess. Just look what happened to Alias.

    by movieman742

it would be absolutly amazing if TPTB let the show end in like 3 or 4 seasons then have a movie to wrap everything up like the execs had been talking about. Thats the only thing bad about stories that carry from week to week. Just like Prison Break was suppose to be a 12 part miniseries for filler until 24 came back in January. Granted it was a good season but if you go back and watch it again you can see where they were suppose to end it and you can also see what episode was the one where they were picked up for a full season and started adding outside storylines.

    Lost could lose its audience

    by Bob of the Shire

The more and more sci-fi it goes, the more its ratings will drop I think. Hell, BSG is my favorite show and every time Lost takes another step towards the "far out", I get a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it's just the way they're handling it. There are certain sci-fi things I love (like the Planet of the Apes statue in the season 2 finale) and other things that just don't really click with me (The Others). Season 2 wasn't as good as Season 1 IMO, but it certainly wasn't bad. I don't know, I'll definetely be watching Season 3. I hope they can really knock it out of the park.

    re: The Underwater Base (SEMI-SPOILERS)

    by Ribbons

Well if you'll recall, in the episode where Ethan tried to re-kidnap Claire and Douchebag Charlie shot him full of bullets, Locke said that Ethan must have come out of the water. Although I don't remember whether or not that comment was sarcastic. But yeah. Also the promos with Jack getting a face full of water might indicate as much.

re: "LOST" ending when it should

    by Ribbons

I kind of hope that "Lost" loses its ratings. It won't, and in some ways it would suffer for it anyway, but at least those fuckers at ABC would let Lindelof and Cuse end the show when and how they wanted. I'm pretty depressed that the two of them have all but confirmed that they've clashed with ABC over this, who has no plans of letting go of the show until it's no longer profitable. 'Cause y'know, we can't let artistic integrity win, even just this once.

  • Oct. 1, 2006, 10:42 p.m. CST

    Unfortunately LOST will never end...

God, Kate and Jack are SO boring.

    by AnnoyYou

And yet the producers insist on rehashing their stupid past lives. Enough already! The only reason I watch this show is to see Locke, Sayid, Jin, Sun, Mr. Eko and now Desmond, who rules and is now officially more interesting than practically everyone else put together. And yet we still get more flashbacks of Jack and his dull marriage. Yeah, we get it -- he has daddy issues, he's guilty because he ditched his wife whom he almost killed, yadda yadda. Who cares?! Bring on Desmond's backstory in Ireland or wherever!

I kind of like Jack's backstories, actually

    by Ribbons

Except for the one episode where he was struggling to write his wedding vows, which is probably officially the second-worst flashback behind Michael's arguing-in-circles in "Adrift" (Shannon and Boone's flashbacks suck by default). But the way the writers highlight Jack's neuroses and pathologies and parallel them with the present situation is usually interesting and clearly-delineated.

    Polar Bears ........

    by Lamerz

Where the fuck are the polar bears dammit? And the black smoke? And the horses appearing out of nowhere? And Jacks fucking dad on the island. Bring some of that freaky shit back!

  • Oct. 2, 2006, 1:57 a.m. CST

    Jack's Dad

    by Ribbons

I really want to know what the deal there is too. I half-expect that the producers forgot all about that plotline. The other half of me expects that they hope if they ignore it and let the audience rationalize as to why Jack doesn't seem to dwell on it, said audience will adopt the same rationalization and the problem will solve itself. But I don't buy that Jack was just hallucinating because he was kinda tired. And I don't buy that the coffin was empty because Jack's (dead) dad was stuck in a tree somewhere (and dead). And I certainly don't buy them both at the same time. So I hope they eventually address this. ************** As for the black smoke, well, you KNOW they're gonna adress that. And the polar bears and horses I'm not too concerned with. I suspect that all the animals probably came from another part of the island that we'll discover later.

The reason why Lost works so well is this...

    by emeraldboy

It has something for everyone and it works on a myriad of different levels. and despite all those who mock it as pretentious rubbish, it remains compulsive. This is a very lawyered show, with a lot of things going on in this show. Another example are the simpsons and futurama. You can look at these shows once, but you have to look again, because these shows move so fast, people complain when the show slows down ie the flashbacks but weitten into those is the real story of lost. I cant wait for the return of this to RTE in january 2007. grrr.

Not to press posters to part with information they don't want to, and obviously you have executive decision here, but you mind elaborating a little on what you mean when you call "Lost" "layered," and maybe giving an example or two? To be honest, I'm not quite sure I see where you're coming from on that one. Although I do think it's good TV for the most part.

    Animals with Logos

    by jaffab

I would also like to know how the animals (horses and bears) fit in with what we found out on series 2. In S1, there was an underwater shot where a shark swims past, and the shark had a logo stamped on its tail with the circle logo on all the doors and food (watch in slow mode and you will spot it). It drives me nuts that the polarbears and the logo'd shark has never been explained. Also, what about the 'monster' that eat the guy out of the plane in the tree right after the crash at the start of S1 - nobody is telling me that was a polarbear

  • Oct. 2, 2006, 5:52 a.m. CST

What I really want to know is

    by pandamaster83

Why the hell didn't we find out about Locke, Echo and Desmond at the end of season 2 but we found out that Charlie was ok? For suspense, it sort of works, but doesn't make sense. I mean it kind of indicates that Charlie doesn't know where they are either ("what, they're not back yet?") but nobody including Charlie does fuck-all about it. He'd rather sit on the beach and kiss Claire. Doesn't that strike anyone as a bit weird? That there was a massive explosion that deafened him and turned the whole sky purple and yet nobody even goes back to check the site of the explosion or to find Desmond, Echo and Locke? Also, the middle spoiler in the Daily Star scoop: I thought that was kind of obvious given the last scene of season 2.

  • Oct. 2, 2006, 5:57 a.m. CST

    Also

    by pandamaster83

Did anyone else think that, in the last scene of season 2, the foreign guy with the beanie hat and the weird glasses who phones Desmond's girl looked a bit like Jack? Probably totally irrelevant though.

    Enlightenment

    by pandamaster83

This has almost certainl been discussed before, but there's a running consistensy with names. Obviously, most people saw the significance of John Locke, but other figures of the enlightenment (mostly Scottish figures) appear. Desmond's second name is Hume (after David Hume), and the dude who tricks Des into pressing the button (the same guy who frees Said in Iraq) is called Kelvin. Or was that the guy pressing the button before him who shot himself? Can't remember. Anyway, this is probably thematic (given the themes of science, technology and discovery vs. faith, morality and religion) and not really concerned with plot. Also Rousseu, a figure of the French enlightenment, just occured to me. Can anyone think of any others?

Lost Should Only Have 13 Eps A Season.

    by Mr. Profit

What would you rather see? An OK season with only a few stand out eps and a bunch of filler ones? Or a non stop 13 episode season that has strong episodes making it great? Lost is a show that could live for a while, if it's episode order were reduced and it's run was non stop. When will ABC realize that the 24 model is what is needed for Lost? Also how fucking stupid is ABC for picking up 6 Degrees and not trying to snag Heroes? Heroes and Lost would have gone good together on Wednesday night.

    What a surprise...

    by Yogsoggoth

Things happen on lost be we aren't told why. Sorry, with shows like Heores, Dexter, BSG, Veronica Mars, and Studio there just isn't time for the cock tease known as Lost. This is a very complex and layered show? Bullshit. This is a bunch of meaningless crap that is nailed togther and will be strung along until the audience grows tired. At that time, the creators will come up with some half-assed explanation for all the bizarre things that happened during the course of the show. Lost is a psychological experiment on the audience. How long will you keep coming back for the meaningless drivel. Besides, it is on ABC. The GOP propoganda network.

Man, you guys read too much into this show...

    by mr jones

I remember when Alias was on and the more fervent fans started trying to work out what the boxed letters in the city intros spelt out. And they came up with some cool and crazy stuff. And then one day someone asked Abrams and he said "We did it that way because it looked cool". I mean, Charlie is English slang for Cocaine and he's a heroine addict? OKay, I see your point, but seriously, does it ever occur to you that you might be over-reasching and Abrams was just thinking up random names... Knowing (and really liking) Alias, I just think that Abrams loves the set-up, loves the Mcguffin, but ultimately doesn't have a solution. He builds up a thousand storylines, and when he gets to a resolution stage, he just adds more on. Great writer, just can't end anything. That said, I CANNOT WAIT for this season to start over here, (or for me to d/l it)

    The Fatal Flaw of Lost

    by ArianeB

Like most of you, I liked the mystery of the first season, and noticed a decline in the second season, but couldn't figure out why. The fatal flaw of the show is the flashback component is revealing more to the audience, way more in fact, than the characters know themselves. The producers continue to surprise us, and that is why I'll keep watching, but the more we know that the characters do not, the lower our ability to connect with these characters. We started seeing, and are likely to see more of, the "idiot plot" (unneeded drama due to the inability of characters to just talk to one another). We the audience now know more than any of the characters, and that leads to a disconnect between the characters and the audience. What is needed is an episode where the characters just sit down and hash things out and discover for themselves all the stuff that we the audience already know. That will dramatically increase our ability to relate to the characters more. If the producers continue to block information from the characters, all the characters will "seem" more and more ignorant. That is what started happening last season, especially in the second half. Every character in the show seems less likeable now than they did late in season 1. Not because the characters are changing, but because we are losing our ability to connect with them.

    Flann O'Brien

    by maxwell's hammer

"The Third Policeman" is a novel about a man who goes to hell, and it turns out hell is just reliving the same bizarre experience over and over again, and only being slightly aware of it. This isn't any kind of hint about what the show is about, its the producers laughing in the face of all the overly-imaginative fans who come up with all sorts of theories about the Island. Kind of like the author of the Lost book, "The Bad Twin", who's author is Gary Troupe, which happens to be an anagram for "Purgatory". Flann O'Brien isn't the 'key' to anything, its just the producers fuckin' with ya and laughing.

    pandamaster83, ArianeB

    by Ribbons

pandamaster: one of Rousseau's shipmates had the same last name as another French philosopher. I don't remember what it was now though. I think she mentions him in the Season 1 finale, if that helps. ************** ArianeB: I agree with you. While the episodes can be etertaining, one of the most frustrating things about them is that a ton of the drama surrounding the characters is simply the result of their complete and utter failure to talk to one another like normal human beings. Sussing out problems coolly and rationally isn't very dramatic, I know, and so the writers probably plan on keeping their characters secretive idiots, but I do wish that they'd find some way to work around that. The other consistent trick on "Lost" is that there's always a new Public Enemy, and because so many characters have done shit to turn the rest of the "tribe" against them, all their guilt-tripping is, in context, both hypocritical and annoying. Locke sanctimoniously beat the shit out of Charlie for stealing Claire's baby like... 3, 4 weeks after getting Boone killed? Charlie gives Ana-Lucia shit a few DAYS after that? Sawyer steals all the guns and people seem to forget about it and chum it up/flirt with him only three or so episodes later? Kate sits there passing judgment on fucking everybody even though she's left a trail of dead bodies back home and manipulated people on the island to get what she wants? Not that any of this will change, just figured that continuity would be nice. I guess one of the problems of writing a story that takes place over the span of a couple of months is that it takes you a couple of years to write it, so continuity tends to get a little fuzzy.

    are the actors in lost

    by emeraldboy

under some contractual threat. I will explain what i mean. Last year Michelle Rodriguez and the actress who plays libby cynthia Watrose, where shot dead in the finale and the writers, said that this had nothing to do with the fact that they had been arrested for DUI. The writers said it was contractual, but i wonder was it a way of shutting the other actors. Danny Dae kim and Jorge Garcia didnt recieve a script went they went to the audition. Danny Dae kim said that he signed a seven year contract. Did Waitrose and Roderiguez do like and wiil the writers kill off Mr Ecko after the actor with unprounceable name got busted for DUI. It is a great show but it is odd one.

Lost is a great concept, but sometimes...

    by rbatty024

the execution is lacking. The characters will do incredibly stupid things for the sake of drama (like Jorge Garcia's character trying to blow up the food storage in the vault...wtf?). It's a guilty pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless. I watch the show despite myself.

    Sealab! 2020!

    by Ricky Henderson

I'd actually guessed there was an underwater base a week ago after seeing the previews for the season premiere. So I'm a freaking genius. What's up with the Kelly Clarkson ads I'm now seeing on AICN? I'll give you my left nut if you can name one person here who fits the "Kelly Clarkson Fan" demographic.

    actor contracts...

    by maxwell's hammer

Both the producers and Michelle Rodriguez have both stated publicly that when they signed her, she was only intended to be used for one season, so there's not a lot of mystery there. It has also been stated that Cynthia Watros will be showing up a lot this season in flashbacks, so I'm pretty sure DUI's had nothing to do with anything. Except that the cast of Lost are a bunch of drunken hooligans. And how does blowing up the food supply seem out of character for the mentally ill castaway?

Am I the only one who thought S2 was superior?

    by FlipPA

The schedule drove us all insane, on-again, off-again, but after catching friends up on S2 via DVD, I think I liked the season even more than S1. It's funny, the same people who complain say that they preferred the mystery of S1, also say that the answers aren't coming fast enough... well, which is it?! Once you get fast answers, the mystery disappears, and you can't have it both ways. It's a delicate tightrope to walk for the creators, and I think they've done pretty darn well so far. Comparing Lost to any other show currently on TV really doesn't work; enjoy it on it's own merits, it IS very layers. Layer 1: the day to day life of the island. Layer 2: the previous lives of the Lostaways. Layer 3: The numerous past relationships of the lostaways. Layer 4: The mysteries of the island and it's history. Layer 5: The relationship between the island and the outside world. While I agree, "LAYERS" might not be the best word, I think that's a better explanation of what most people are trying to say; there are a lot of components to the story being told that require viewer attention and can be easily missed by a casual viewer. While V Mars, BSG and 24 have fun single-season arcs, they're not nearly as intense and complex as Lost has (and I'm a huge fan of all three of those shows, having seen every episode of each).

    Oh, and also...

    by FlipPA

It's good to see some familiar faces surfacing again this year. Last year's discussions were a lot of fun. Let's just try to avoid the 24 vs. Lost this year. It's tired, tired, tired - enjoy both on their own merits. :)

So Sideshow Collectibles makes a Kelly Clarkson statue?

    by Ribbons

JUST KIDDING! HAHAHAHAHA! Take THAT, Kelly Clarkson's waxy head! ********* FlipPA: I agree. I could do without the 24/Lost debate this year too. Also, if everybody simultaneously decided to grow up and drop the "hater/apologist" namecalling shenanigans, that'd be great too. Get on that, fellow TalkBackers.

    by richier123

I heard in an interview that putting the dharma logo on the shark was just supposed to be an easter egg and have no real meaning.... but then the cg lighting or something actually made it more visible than intended. Not sure how you mess up soemthing that you can control and tape on a computer though....

The Hanso site is back up and there is a message about Hanso (with a picture) in prison, getting help from his daughter. I enjoy Lost but I can help but feel left out of the loop by not committing my free time to figuring out the Lost Experience this summer.

    The smoke

    by Ribbons

Is the form that Desmond takes when he slumbers. For true. Actually, they have not esplained the smoke yet. The last time we (knew we) saw the smoke monster was in Eko's episode. Although Damon Lindelof has made some comments about how Smokey turned up another time in the season and we most likely just didn't realize it.

Yeah LOST is great now, but just wait...

    by Orbots Commander

until the series will have dragged on for 7,8, hell maybe 10 seasons until it's reduced to campy Drew Cary type musical themed segments or live episodes. ABC will ride this horse until it dies. There's no way they're letting a cash cow like this get away.

ArianeB, that was a spot on analysis.

    by Orbots Commander

Let me guess, you're an amateur or professional writer right? That's a writer's/storyteller's analysis of the show's second season, which I happen to be in agreement with by the way. The more removed we become from the characters via the audience gaining more story knowledge, the less we connect with those characters. In some cases that storytelling angle can serve to increase suspense, as used masterfully by Hitchcock, but it can also backfire on you.

    by nemesisdarkside

Don't hate on the Clarkson girl Ricky<P>"SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GOOOOOOOONE!!!" ;p<P>Seriously though, ArianeB speaks much sense. The "Idiot plot" frustrates me insanely! TALK TO EACH OTHER DAMMIT!!!<P>Also Pandamaster, "He'd rather sit on the beach and kiss Claire" That bugged the hell outta me also, he didn't even give a frakk! He may have fell out with both of them but Locke helped him with his drug problem and he and Eko were BUILDING a church together. Yet he didn't give a frakk about them! "what, they're not back yet?" that's all! wtf?!?

    Ribbons/Jack's dad/the "Monster"

    by nemesisdarkside

"..if they ignore it and let the audience rationalize as to why Jack doesn't seem to dwell on it, said audience will adopt the same rationalization and the problem will solve itself." I sure frakking hope not Ribbons. I don't accept Jack dad being a hullucination and his body in a tree (nice one btw). I want to see Jack's dad ON the island later on in the show. That's almost as bad as the "Monster" that ate the pilot and sounded like a dinosaur and then disappeared from the island and everybodies consciousness.<BR>What? did the "Monster" get caught DUI also, so they replaced his drunken Godzilla-wannabe-ass with the Black Smoke? ;P

    Right On Ariane

    by Cheif Brody

Great explanation on Lost's Fatal Flaw. I was wondering what was buggin me so much about S2...and you nailed it on the head. We know too much...but unfortunately, TPTB feel it necessary to keep overlapping the character's interactions in flashback, and then don't have enough time on the island to let them talk about it! One of my fave scenes from S1 was Sawyer breaking down and sharing his story about havin the drink with Jack's dad in the bar to Jack. That was so cool. Then it never happened again...unless you count Rose & Locke's shared knowlege about the island's healing powers. Which leads me to the next flaw...for every "mystery" they "kinda" tie up, eight more mysteries are opened. Can there be too many irons on the fire? Lost is testing that with each new eppy. However, I am a die hard Lost fan...so little things like logos on sharks, and why polar bears are never shown anymore, and who restocks the Pearl hatch with new vacuum tubes don't bother me at all. But the core mysteries are starting to pile up so much, that I fear there will be an avalanche that the show will never recover from. That said, something HUGE is suppose to happen in the 6th eppy of this season (before the 13 week break) that will leave (even loyal) fans either shocked and awed...or have people saying the show just jumped the Dharma shark and throwing their TV sets into their swimming pools. I sincerely hope I'm in the shocked and awed camp when it happens. Fingers crossed.

    Ribbons - smoke

    by Eaglet1138

"Although Damon Lindelof has made some comments about how Smokey turned up another time in the season and we most likely just didn't realize it." - We saw the smoke in the episode where we flash back with Mike to his time with the Others. The multitude of 'Others' surrounding Jack and Sawyer when they first meet Zeke/Mr. Friendly/Tom are...THE BLACK SMOKE. Yeah, go back and watch it again. We see the same shot we saw the first time we saw the scene, but just a LITTLE longer, long enough to see everyone poof away. I noticed it on first viewing but I've noticed that most people didn't catch it.
