Come On Now, Sugar!!
Watch The First Episode Of
VERONICA MARS Right Now!!

Published at: Sept. 27, 2006, 9:18 a.m. CST

I am – Hercules!! “Above her suggestion box and tip jar!” The Casablanci, Kendall and Dick, are back. So is Backup and Vinnie Van Lowe, P.I, and at least one fighting Fitzpatrick. Mac is back but Veronica’s convertible is gone. Wallace, like Mac and Dick, is living on campus at Hearst College, and has a guitarist roommate from Oregon. Francis Capra is still in the (slightly more melancholy) title credits, but you won’t see incarcerated gangster Eli “Weevil” Navarro in the first or second episodes. Lilly Kane is referenced, but does not appear. There’s more than one cliffhanger and a lot of surprises. One assumes most “Veronica Mars” fans know that the superb first episode of its third season went online Tuesday, well in advance of its official Oct. 3 debut on The CW. But if you’re a straggler, you can still find all the Neptune-y goodness here.

Cheers. Veronica Mars is a solid show, hopefully this season will be just as good.

    Time for a Mac attack!

    by oisin5199

Can't wait to get back to the Marsy goodness, especially now that the madness with Beaver is over. Love the show, hated that plot resolution. Thankfully, it seems that they've learned from their mistakes, according to interviews with Rob Thomas.

    new theme song SUCKS

    by reinhold

Such a poor remix. It loses all the energy of the original song.

I have a Mac, and I managed to get it to play...

    by DanielKurland

Take the URL and manually put it in the video player, and it SHOULD play. Most people who are having trouble with the site, have foudn this to work. And it's really a great episode.

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 10:12 a.m. CST

    watched it

    by BigDogg

I hated the new intro with the slower version of the song and weird orange tinted opening credits. I also wasn't huge on not finding about Weevil since that was one of the cliffhangers of last season. The humor was great in the episode. The ending of what happened to Mac's roomate was completely obvious. All in all, I think that it will be enjoyed by VM fans but I doubt it will bring in too many new viewers who do not know the backstory and may feel somewhat lost.

All right, here is the episode as a downloadable file..

    I like it

    by Bob of the Shire

I like the look of the new title sequence, it fits the noir-esque vibe the show has going on, but the song sucks now. As for the episode itself, great stuff. Writing is still nop notch, Kristen Bell is still hot, and the show is still interesting.

    That wasn't Guttenberg with Keith...

    by DanielKurland

At close ups, they look shockingly similar, which is bound to cause confusion, but Woody Goodman is dead. This is not the same character. However, James Jordan, who played the crazy janitor Lucky last season, is playing Veronica's criminoloy TA, Timothy Foil. I was hesitant about this reusing of actors at first, but when I found out who I was playing, I couldn't even draw a comparison. They've hid it well.

    by DanielKurland

Repay me in the form of enjoyable, and worthwhile talkbacks for Veronica Mars and Studio 60. Anyone else think they may be setting up Dick to be a suspect for the rapist, as a result of that connection they showed between him and Parker, and his whole "I've done a bad thing" at the end there?

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 3:13 p.m. CST

I don't have a problem with the credits.

    by Mr. Profit

Especially when the show that followed them was top notch. I am used to the faster version of the song. But the credits look better IMO.

    by DanielKurland

Just get rid of the space between the "n" and the "a". The underscore is right, I don't know why it popped up like that...

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 7:26 p.m. CST

    Try removing the space, Oppenheimer.

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 7:33 p.m. CST

aha, a bug in the talkbacks submission...

    by aicmb

It would seem that the slash-n combination is being interpreted as a line-break, possibly by the form handler, possibly by the SQL formatter prior to DB call. WOW. Who wants to lay odds this site is ridiculously prone to XSS?

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 7:58 p.m. CST

    That was fun

    by Deadwood Dan

Just finished the episode. 'twas great. Interesting to pick up on a plot line from season 2. Thanks a lot Herc. Saves me from DLing it next week, since I'll be watching some films at the VIFF. Now, if they do this for Lost and Battlestar Galactica, that'd be pretty sweet...

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 8:38 p.m. CST

Guys, the url glitch has been around for a few weeks.

    by Shermdawg

I'm pretty sure it's a side effect of the measures taken to eliminate the pages being stretched out from people posting "Nooooo...".

Of course, I could be wrong, because I had a Tiny Url'd link do it also.

  • Sept. 27, 2006, 8:40 p.m. CST

It seems they fixed the post delay problem though.

    by Shermdawg

    Much thanks.

The real test will come next week when Lost premieres. And then the SNL talkback.

Trading the Le Baron in for a Saturn...for a Mars in Neptune? Talk about some Mercury rising! The credits grow on you...I've watched this shit three times already. V saying "frak" is simultaneously adorable and hilarious. I'm in heaven...just don't cancel it C Dub! Are you listening Dawn?

    This Damn Show

    by Playhouse

Started watching the premiere the other night, trying to limit myself to the first 10 minutes or so - especially since it was closing in on three hours till I had to be up for work and I really needed to get a least a quality nap in. Damn thing sucked me in. Good stuff. Though I'm not quite sold on Piz as a third point to a triangle between her and Logan. Have to see how that unfolds but he just doesn't strike me as someone Veronica would be interested in. Of course, with Logan being all dark and taking the blame for what happened with Beaver, she could just dig a light fling in contrast. And the "frak" business was unbearably cute in Kristen's mouth.

  • Sept. 28, 2006, 1:58 a.m. CST

mac users are frakked again ...

    by caipirina

I can't believe it ... VM uses a mac .. but a mac user cannot watch this show .. there is no IE 6 for mac .. in fact "INTERNET EXPLORER FOR MAC NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD " ... i tried the other links published here ... but sendspace was not in the mood to share with me and the other got me a 404 (even after deleting the blank) ... ah well .. have to wait I guess

  • Sept. 28, 2006, 3:23 a.m. CST

ah .. and then again .. there is always youtube

    by caipirina

some nice person put it up there .. in 7 parts or so ... going through it now .. have no problems with the new opening ...

  • Sept. 28, 2006, 4:21 a.m. CST

    Even better...

    by CatVutt

Would be the disoriented look on V's face when she uses "Frak" in front of Keith only to get a "Felgercarb" in return.

  • Sept. 28, 2006, 7:11 a.m. CST

    I'll wait for the broadcast...

    by The Selecter

and skip over any potential spoilers. But the mention of Vinnie Van Lowe brings joy. Did y'all hear that a bit of new casting on 24 hints that Mr. Bluetooth Mastermind returns next season?!

    Need download of episode

    by elsachmo

Frak! I can't get either of the download links to work! The livejournal one says that there are no more free downloads, and the trampymcbitch one shows no page available. I don't want to watch the horrible quality on youtube, and the streaming version skips all the time on my computer. Does anyone have an updated link for a download or torrent? Please. Thanks.

    by Eaglet1138

Good episode, if a poor teaser and first act. The use of 'frak' bumps the episode from a 3+1/2 to a solid 4 out of 5. I hope for a better episode in 3.2, but I'm happy with what I'm getting so far.

    My letter to MSN support

    by Trader Groucho 2

Where's your love for Mac OS-X? You're trying to reach opinion-makers with this content - to get people like me who have a podcast that a lot of people listen to to talk up the show before it airs. But wait! I can't get it. Why? Because I'm using the OS that a huge number of artistic types in the entertainment and graphics industries favor. Microsoft supports OS-X sometimes. Office is still the top of the heap in its segment on the Mac. So what's the point of blocking my ability to see an frakking episode of Veronica Mars - a show I love and am sure to talk up to the people who listen to me? In short, WTF??? With love -

  • Sept. 30, 2006, 4:38 a.m. CST

I had doubts but this is a good premiere.

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

Two bad things: I'm dreading that Parker is going to become an annoying character, who pines for Veronica all season. Second, the new opening titles SUCK! WTF?

  • Sept. 30, 2006, 4:42 a.m. CST

    Sorry, meant Piz, not Parker...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

Too many asexual names on this series. :D

  • Sept. 30, 2006, 6:48 a.m. CST

A couple thoughts after watching it...

    by dance4days

*Spoilers for the premiere* First of all, the integration of "Frak" into Veronicals vocabulary is frakkin' sweet. Second, didn't the behavior of the men at the rally seem a bit unrealistic? I can understand their anger at the suggestion of the frat houses being closed down, but the fact that they were booing her from the moment she started talking was too misogynistic to be believed. I don't think ANY man would so blatantly boo a woman for speaking out after having such a horrible crime committed against her. This glaring moment of bad direction really stood out in an otherwise spectacularly produced tv show. Third, I have a hard time believing that Kendall is actually dead. Cormac would have been pretty stupid to kill her with Keith's gun while he was still there, instead of waiting for him to leave and using some other method. And hello, no body. I think Cormac and Kendall are conning Keith somehow by faking Kendall's death, and she's going to turn up alive somewhere down the road. Why would they do this? We'll have to wait and see.

TY for the link. Good ep. Looking forward to this season. And K Bell's been living with a screenwriter for the past four years. Peet just married Benioff too. Nice to see the writer getting the girl every so often.
