First production stills come out for HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, including a look at Umbridge!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here, newly arrived from London where I visited a top secret set, but you'll never ever in a million years guess which one it is until I can write about it next July. Strangely enough, I arrive back (a day late thanks to Washington Dulles, Chicago's retarded airport and United fucking Airlines) and see that pictures have come out from HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, printed in a newspaper called The Scotsman. I was informed by "Pam" that Potterhead fan site HPANA.com had a scan of the paper. I don't know if they originated it, but it's where I saw it first. Check out the pics below for your first glimpse at Umbridge, Harry facing down another nasty Dementor (not pictured) and another look at Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood!!!

Always wanted to do that. Let the hating begin.
-
You know who I'm talking about...
-
Glasgow Herald is a far superior paper...
-
harry got busted using his wand as a can of spraypaint? oh, the suspense..
-
Kids today, if they aren't casting spells they are scrawling 'Hermione is a poof' on underpass walls...
-
and Harry sure is growing up fast
-
i believe she is legal, but only just.
I find it hard to get excited by stills, but i do look forward to the film. -
So yes, yes indeedy. ;^)

http://tinyurl.com/l8u5n And Emma Watson is FREAKED OUT by you guys. Good job. When asked by Newsweek about attention from boys she replied: "
-
Oh, I'm supposed to be reading the other article. It's a shame it's in Scottish not English.
-
Oh, I'm supposed to read the other article. Hmm, it's a shame it's in Scottish and not English.

"I suppose guys are either kind of intimidated by me and have their defenses up, or they like to take the piss out of me. [Long pause, then sighs.] It’s a minefield, to be quite honest with you. Really. Ugh. It’s stressful." That big long pause and sigh is you. All you. She's thinking about people who are counting down until she's 18. You stress the girl out with your stalkercreepy shit. Now, Tonks...Tonks is HOT and legal.....
-
When he gonna settle down with all that spell shit.
-
Kidding, I never got on the whole Emma Watson thing though. I prefer them a bit older. Especially after watching Hard Candy (shudder)...
-
just for all you pedos out there ;-) but remember what I said about Hard Candy...
-
I actually like these movies. The first one was really crappy, but they keep getting progressively better.
-
At least...
-
when he had the shaggy hippie look going on. Now he looks like one of the cool kids.
-
I don't recognize what he's directed, and the director has made the difference with these movies. Azkaban is the weakest book in the series, but is my favorite movie of the bunch, due to Cuaron. Oh, and some of you need to spank your weiner with a ruler for getting excited over lil' Hermione. (Meaning punishment; not to further sexual arousal.)
-
I for one am excited about the next Potter movie. It's a great series in print and film...in my opinion anyway. I'm sure there'll be disagreement. And, Luna looks just like I'd imagined her too! She's the perfect girl.
-
...this is a far better link for pics - http://tinyurl.com/ftmto. Umbridge's eyes, makeup, hairdo, and the Wall O' Kittens are SO dead on. Can't wait for this, but it's gotta be said - Terry Gilliam for Half-Blood Prince!
-
is actually 19 years old. And she looked much cuter in X-Men 3.
As for Harry Potter chicks, nothing beats the french girl from the last movie. Yowza! (Yes, she's legal too.) -
...I think that's the term. She may be legal in the UK but, if you're from a country in which the legal age is higher, then it's still illegal for you. So those of you hard up for a lil Emma Watson action (pun not intended! That's sick, ya pervs! lol) will just have to go become citizens of the UK. lol Go on. Get out. :D Yeah, Tonks is freakin hot dude!
-
that solves all our problems
-
Forget the newspaper clip, the pics in Zarles' link are much better. Umbridge's office! FFS, the really WENT for it. And I'm so glad they're doing the whole Dumbledore's Army thing (if you don't know, that Umbridge woman stops them learning how to defend themselves against Voldemort and his cronies, so Harry teaches a group of students how to kick unholy ass (well...as much unholy ass you can kick with a wand anyhow). The actors are growing up well. I just hope Emma Watson becomes a better actor for this one. She was WAY OTT in Goblet of Fire.
-
Last one way too long...this one way to short.
Whats so hard about making Harrys HAIR look like it did in the books. Looks rediculous. -
haha!
-
I always think that I'm dead bored with this whole thing and then; it looks like it might get interesting again. Sort of Trainspotting Harry; or LayerCake Harry; Harry being dentally tortured or beaten in a urine-smelling stairwell? Cool. At least there's not so much shot going on in htis one; The GoF was really clumsy with far too many plot points to get through.
-
At least, every gay in London has short cropped hair these days; not that 70's merengue thing.

The other day on Mugglenet.com they had a post saying that people were visiting the set, and I remembered you talking about having to go to the set of a top secret movie in the review to Jackass Number 2, I think.
Anyway, yeah, you can check out all of the pics on Mugglenet.com, too. -
He also directed another John Simm miniseries called Sex Traffic. It's a great piece of work, and after that and State Of Play (great opening scene) I have every confidence in him. Oh and get well soon Hamster.
-
And in my opinion this is the easiest Harry Potter to adapt and not screw it up.
-
I don't know what you've been smoking but Book 5 is the longest and most complicated of all the books and thus the hardest to adapt purely because it practically would require a mini-series to cover the whole lot. That said theres an inordinatly large amnount of time spent in it just faffing around. Should be good, also Scotsman is a far better paper than the Glasgow Herald.

Wasn't there an idea to make it like the Matrix sequels
by james_o'nasty
, only less shit? To split the movie into two bits and then Warner Brothers would clean up on the DVD sales, part one, part two, the combined movie and then the $50 two-disc edition? Fuckers.

James_O'Nasty, yes there was talk a few years ago...
by excaliburffolkes
...of splitting Goblet of Fire into two movies and releasing one a month or two before the other, but they decided against it. Too much money and time was involved to make it work. Plus, it would just slow down production on the subsequent movies.

I see they are sticking with the terminally drab...
by excaliburffolkes
...palette. The books are so lively and full of color; yet the movies are dreary grey upon dreary grey upon dreary grey.

Just my opinion. Unless your a hormonally ravaged pubescent 16-17 year old this kind of shit really aint-cool-news.

We see WHY Trelawnely is teaching there though she can't predict yesterday if it happened tomorrow....is that Mad-Eye behind them?
-
Not Mad-Eye Moody.
-
Why Emma Watson isn't sure if she is going to return for the 6th and 7th movies now. You fuckers are sick.....
-
Who do yawl think should direct the last two? Newell again? Cuaron again (Children of Men shows how good he can be at character-driven action)? (Please not Columbus.) Someone like a Joss Whedon (Serenity showed that he can handle ensembles, and main characters dying)? Guillermo Del Toro (Devil's Backbone showed him understanding schools and scares)? Christopher Nolan? Bryan Singer/JJ Alias (directed the best set-pieces in recent memory, according to me and, in a recent interview, Mr S Spielberg)? What are your thoughts?
-
....whoever they think will make them the biggest load of cash$$$$$$
-
As long as they keep the main cast together, any movie released with the name Harry Potter is pretty much guaranteed to gross $700-$900 million worldwide regardless of who's directing. If the grievous mistakes of the last two films didn't drive the audiences away I doubt anything will at this point. Financially speaking, the series is on idiot proof autopilot.
-
The books have gotten longer, but the truth is, in the case of 'Order of the Phoenix' most of the story could be easliy compressed, as most of the "action" takes place at the end. Out of all of the books so far, this one looks like it would be the easiest to adapt. 'Halfblood Prince', on the other hand, is mostly flashbacks and then it has a real downer of an ending. I can see them having trouble making that one work. as for recasting some characters, I was sure they were going to recast the guy that plays Draco after he shot up to about six feet in the middle of the third movie. (I don't know, I always envisioned Malfoy as being shorter than Harry.) Oh, and Emma shouldn't worry about all the online pervs on the net, they'll leave her alone as soon as she turns eighteen. Do you hear any of these social misfits drooling over the Olsen Twins anymore? So cheer up Emma, you're going to grow up someday, and when that happens you'll be cast aside for some other nymphet.
-
After seeing the pictures of Dumbledore's Army I wonder why the film makers want to make Ginny look like the Lesbian of the group instead of Harry's future love?
Good point ExcaliburFfolkes, however 3 and 4 should have broken the 1 Billion Dollar worldwide figure easy. What did you think of Narnia? -
I've got to disagree with you Excalibur... It's ALWAYS possible to screw up a franchise. In terms of worldwide gross, Matrix Reloaded made $735; Matrix Revolutions made $424. MI2 made $545; MI3, though generally recognised as being better, only made $395. It's quite possible that, having paid to see a Harry Potter film every other year since 2001, people will feel bored of the franchise, and prefer to move on to Narnia, or Pirates. And remember that the kids who loved Harry Potter aged 10 are now 15... growing the films up with them in terms of 'darkness' is a gamble as it risks cutting out the family audience. And the heavy reliance on flashbacks in Book 6 will have to be handled very carefully... Batman Begins showed that duel timescales can work in a blockbuster, but I imagine they put a fuck of a lot of work into it.
The longevity masterplan with HP seems to be to make each film more 'real', more emotional (could hardly have been less emotional than the first 2: look how shit-scared Harry is of the Dragon in 4, then see how unphased he is by the huge snake/Basilisk in 2), and more violent - a bit like when they had that 'Bond Bleeds' campaign for License to Kill. What do you reckon, are they on the right tip? -
I hope it has the byline, "If it isn't Scottish it's CRAP!"
-
The Potheads/Potterphiles whatever they call themselves will never be happy...two movies to make sure they get every little bit and then a delay.
Remember the shitstorm which occurred when they published the list of what was not going to be in the GOF movie?
If there was a movie which could benefit from the split, it would be Order of the Phoenix...you could bludgeon someone with it.
And, M. Night Shamalyan has given several interviews about how he would "protect" Half-Blood Prince, or the seventh movie...I would hope, but after the blurbs of I Am Legend which have been revealed here...it's kind of hard to see the beam of sunshine reflected off a dried piece of shit. -
...haven't read any of the books. I guess I don't care that much. The (first) movie seemed to borrow basic elements from Star Wars. You know, orphan destined to fight evil with learned magic.
-
It completely flew in the face of modern popular cliches about what a good fantasy film should contain. Particularly since the filmmakers wisely eschewed the idea of turning it into a darker film. Not every fantasy picture telling an end of the world struggle between good and evil needs to be be set in a decaying wasteland of permanently shrouded greys and blacks, populated by psychologically conflicted morally confused characters. Instead, Narnia dared present genuinely good stable characters defending a beautiful lush kingdom, and the result was a powerful cinematic breath of fresh air. Hopefully the filmmakers stick to their guns and maintain this approach through the subsequent sequels. If they do, the rest of the series should do quite well. I haven't read the original C.S. Lewis books, so I am not in any position to evaluate whether or not the movie was a good adaptation of them.

Yes, Mr. Gorilla, it is always possible to screw up...
by excaliburffolkes
...a movie franchise through gross incompetance or wholesale changes to the plotline, however, some movie franchises have far more inertia and resilience to those things than others. This is especially true of movie franchises with longer pre-defined story arcs that fans get wrapped up in (as opposed to open ended franchises like Batman, Die Hard, Mission Impossible, etc. where each film basically repeats the same basic plot every time around). Take Star Wars for instance. The prequels were underwhelming in most every aspect except possibly special effects, yet each film continued to make huge money at the box office regardlessly. Why? Because thanks to the original trilogy a gigantic chunk of the audience was committed to seeing the story all the way through to its conclusion of the birth of Darth Vadar and the empire no matter what. Another example is the Lord of the Rings. Once the first movie proved entertaining, thanks to the books, it was a slam dunk that huge numbers of people would turn up in the theaters for the sequels to follow Frodo all the way to the fires of Mt. Doom. The Harry Potter franchise is the same way. Thanks to the books a whole heap of fans are already invested in seeing all seven films through to the final Harry/Voldemort showdown, and will do so unless an outright artistic catastrophe dissuades them. Assuming the filmmakers at Warner Brothers don't go completely insane they is no way they can screw the franchise up money-wise. As long as they keep the films going like they currently are (same cast, big production budget, at least minimally competant directors, and a story that more or less follows J.K. Rowlings books) the audience is virtually guaranteed to show up to the tune of the $700-$900 million a pop that the last three films have grossed. The audience is already emotionally involved and committed to seeing the rest of the films, even before they are made. That's the power of franchise inertia. That is why I say the Harry Potter series is financially on idiot proof automatic pilot. It would be mind boggling if the rest of the films didn't have box office numbers similiar to the first four.

1 - If you are 25 or older, you would probably have a better chance with Emma Watson's mom. You are probably closer to her age as well.
2 - I agree with Kizeesh about book 5 being a really large amount of plot to crush down into a normal length movie. There is a lot going on at the beginning that sets up the characters in the story before they even get to what is happening at the school. I would hate to be the one to have to sort that out.
-
1 - If you are over 25, you probably have a better chance with Emma Watson's mom. She would be closer to your age.
2 - I agree with Kizeesh in that the 5th book has a great deal of plot to downsize. It has a lot of character development in the beginning and I'd hate to be the one to struggle with narrowing that down. -
CS Lewis books tend to be shorter so the movie expanded on scenes that were simply hinted at in the book.
-
Narnia was hardly faithful considering they ditched all but a handful of lines from the origianl book, to replace it with "more modern dialogue"
half the charm of the books was the slighlyt unreal oxfordised language the characters spoke in -
faithful.
-
Can Potter look any more gay in that photo?
The rest of photos look like fashion don'ts. Hope that it works for the style of the movie or else I will be laughing a lot at it.
