See The New PRESTIGE Trailer Via The Confounding Techno Magic Of The Internets!!

Published at:  Sep 20, 2006 2:06:29 PM CDT

Merrick here…

Yahoo has posted a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s THE PRESTIGE, which hits screens on October 26.

It’s so cool to have a movie say it’s “From the director of BATMAN BEGINS” and have that actually be a mark of quality. I mean, “From the director of FANTASTIC FOUR” just doesn’t have the same…cred…somehow.

Love the cast. Love the look of the film. Hate “the voice” – feels like it’s plugging a forthcoming TV series…”Coming this Fall to FOX”.

I tried to work the word “Prestidigitation” into this piece, but I couldn’t figure out how do so skillfully. Like: “Prestidigitation…I wonder if someone can go blind doing that?”, and so forth.

Looking forward to this film; can't wait for David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. Way too cool.

this trailer couldn't be any worse. lame voiceover, no new clips, too short. and no mention of 'from the director of memento'. but that's trivial.

yeah, I didn't care for the voice either...

    by datascream

it sounded too cheesy. Doing it like the original trailer would have put the point across. The guys basically just reading what comes up in the trailer. The begining of the trailer was screwy by adding Hugh Jackman into it. nonetheless, I WILL be seeing this. :)

Now THAT would be the Bale vs. Jackman movie to see. Still, THE PRESTIGE looks pretty nifty and even if the trailers are weak, I'm still checking it out.

    where's Bowie?

    by staldo

Bowie showed up in the previous trailer, and I presumed it was him they were talking about with such awe in the trailer. Is his character supposed to be a secret?

It will be better than The Illusionist.

    by dirtsandwich

But The Illusionist was a great film, 8/10. That's what most are giving it. Norton was great, Giamatti was perfect. Definetly check it out. Don't miss the end part or it'll fuck the whole thing up. As of Tesla. I'm a giant fucking fan of his. But not so about Bowie playing him. The age is way off. Bowie is old compared to the Tesla of that time. He should be the age of the main roles. Actually when the fuck is there going to be a big budget film based on his life? Showing the true magician at work. The lights in the ground I believe is Tesla's Colorado experiment. I hope this sparks interest in Nolan or someone making a full blown Tesla flic????? Jeff Goldblum was at one point rumored to play Tesla in a movie about the awesome inventor. Come you fucks make a Tesla movie. We need something cool and original from Hollywood. Not shit like Ice Cube playing Gabe Kotter. Stab my eyes out please!!!

and as such drew a big zero in terms of inspiring even a look on the BB. However, now that I see its Nolan, it feels better, but still that name smells like box office death to me.

    by cash bailey

God I hate when they have "In a world" guy reading out text in trailers. Just seems distracting. You want to become involved in a trailer, not have someone narrate you through it. Flick looks sweet, though.

    TV Commercial

    by the only woj

looks to me like a tv commercial. the 2nd trailer, the "full trailer" was the best look at the film. judging from the voice, and length, it looks like an extended tv commercial ... and the voice makes it look cheap.

    Nolan's free pass

    by auraboy

Even if it's awful I give Nolan a free pass for a while for trying so hard to do good movies. But, yeah, an atmospheric trailer building up would be cool without Slurring popcorn man voicing it. Still Bale manages to look pretty fucked up these days which can only be a good thing.

Someone said a while back that summed it up perfectly

    by dirtsandwich

As of Shyamalan, they said his movies keep getting 20% crappier each time. So if The Sixth Sense was his best work, not perfect but a good solid film, that would come in at 80% or 8/10, which I agree with. Then Unbreakable is 60%, then Signs is 40%, then The Village is 20%, then that would make Lady in the Water suck royal ass at 0%. They were fucking dead balls on. The man is a fucktard behind the camera. And even in front of it.

    by saluki

They just got cold feet, and are now trying to play to the dumbest audience around. Same happened to Batman at a few points. It wouldn't be so annoying if we just had a perfect trailer just before it.

    by thebearovingian

I honestly want to see this. I'm not just saying that. I have a real, palpable sense of anticipation. Just not in my special place. I guarantee Harry's review of this film will include this: "magically delicious". I am honest if I am true and I am true.

    Well, you know...

    by ribbons

...this seems like it's been cut for television. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. It's basically the same as the first trailer, only it streamlines the thing and states the narrative more explicitly. So not very juicy for us geeks, but I approve of it from a marketing standpoint. *********** Re: the 'Batman Begins' pedigree being a sign of quality: I had the same surreal experience when I saw the trailer for 'Children of Men,' which said "From the acclaimed director of 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.'" While I agree, it sort of seemed incongruous. So yeah, it is a weird experience watching geek/children's films being recognized as well-crafted in the media like that. But it's a decidedly pleasant surprise.
