Mike Dougherty and Bryan Singer want to TRICK 'R TREAT next Halloween!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I first heard about this flick, TRICK 'R TREAT, over at Bloody-Disgusting, now the trades have run with it. Bryan Singer is producing for his good friend and writer Mike Dougherty (X2 and SUPERMAN RETURNS). Dougherty will make his directorial debut on this horror flick.
The story actually sounds quite interesting. It's 4 stories that take place during Halloween. Of course these stories all connect with each other. You have a straight-laced high school principal who is really a serial slasher, a college girl looking for the right guy, a bunch of young teens who are pulling a cruel prank and husband and wife who disagree about the holiday. He's strangely obsessed with it, while she thinks it's ridiculous.
Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are signing all the paperwork now and they're eye-ballin' an October '07 release. I really dig the idea here and it sounds like a fresh take on the genre. Very curious to see how it turns out.

can they make it any good.
-
Put in Spacey as the high school principal and Routh as one of the lead roles. Sounds like it could be a winner to me
-
Why don't they get 4 directors to do the 4 stories? Oh, wait...
-
After the hugely underwhelming SR- why on earth are these 2 being given money to botch something else? And I can only think of a few examples of multi story horror films that work.
-
i'm sorry. after these two ruined the superman franchise for a LONG time, i have very little faith in their future projects.
-
It's gonna be impossible to beat the original: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092112/
-
They won't be busy working on Superman Returns Again?
-
Skippy could use the work.
-
That's a good thing. the pair of... actually, I can't think of a word strong enough to express the venom I regard them with.
-
I accept that and trust his judgement so I'm on board.
-
I sort of enjoyed Superman Returns but I was just intrigued to see Singer and writing buddies finally admitting they'll need some other jobs instead. It's obvious how much lead time and scheduling is required for even one or two movies ahead, I guess this just confirms Singer knows he's gotta start looking elsewhere. I thought he might still be holding out...
-
I liked the movie...and I want to see what happens next!! Gaddamn Box Office Mojo!!
-
I think they can do both.
-
Damn double post.
-
Hey, he mentioned Uperman Say Eturns Ray, I'm allowed. :P
-
Pardon me while I dust off an old geek chestnut: BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, because that franchise was totally going places after 'Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.' But those bleepity-bleep-bleepers gave Superman an estranged kid, therefore words cannot express the level of attempt I have for them!!!!!! Get real.
-
change the title to that and you've got BOX OFFICE GOLD, guaranteed!
-
Since Synger is "directing" this movie then I guess it means he won't direct SR's sequel. Hmm. So I guess that since Nolan is releasing The Prestige, he won't be able to get BB2 in 2 years. I say give Schumacher another shot. Kneel to my logic.
-
It was called 11:14, and a young underage Racheal Leigh-Cook boinks the hell out of some guy in a graveyard. Truly awesome.
-
Then there is something that I am obviously not reading. It sounds like Crash, but instead of racism we get needles in our candy. What the fuck is so exciting about this? What am I missing? Fill me in so I dont have to be the black sheep
-
a chevy impala. You forgot how Optimus decided to use pink and pastel green instead of blue and red. Sadly Superman IV is better than Superman V.
-
horror films I ever saw. I will always remember that one... the lake blob... the dead woman wrapped in the dover sign. Man, I have such a soft spot for that film.
-
You should read King's short story 'The Raft' which became that lake blob segment. It's a good story. I hope this doesn't turns out good, I love horror film anthologies, we haven't had a good one in ages!!
-
If you think Singer is in this game for anything else than just making cool movies you are seriously idiotic! He's one of the ones out there trying to make 'geek' movies you lot want to see. Hacking on someone for being gay is seriously lame. you should be ashamed of yourselves!
-
in regards to my last comment.
-
reminds me of the old days, with his Joss is god rants and his gaybashing. However, Superman Returns was fucking dreadful, and it had nothing to do with gay analogies. It was just shit from top to bottom. If there was justice in the world Singer and his little scribbler friends would be exiled to the Falkland Islands and forced to adapt See Spot Run books for the local radio station. Which would be aired to the three men and 75,000 sheep that live there, confining his garbage to the smallest possible audience.
-
and go right on to the next shitty Superman movie that will put everyone to sleep and will barely break even!
-
I took what he had to say seriously for a moment. I should have seen all the classic 'Troll' signs ...I really enjoyed Superman for what it's worth. Reminds me of the way people reacted to HULK (another movie I enjoyed). There's a lot more going on in these movies than action and I for one really enjoy that. But each to their own I guess...'See spot run' is a bit harsh. being sent to the falkland Islands is bad enough :)
-
I am aware that there is more going on under the surface. That is also not why it was shit. Acting, plot holes, miscasting, the bloody supersprog etc. maybe see spot run was a bit harsh. I remember them being classics, what about the scrawlings on the toilet wall then?
-
wow, well-
mike dougherty and dan harris should be thankful they're actually attractive. or else why would bryan hire them? bryan is a talented guy- i don't really understand what's so special about the wonder twins though...maybe i'm just not seeing something- maybe they're writing really is worthy of the fame they're getting. hm, oh well. doubt it, but oh well. -
The proof being SR.

We are gonna fall out you keep slaggin off Superman, LP
by talkbacker with no name
We get it. you hate SR. But have you not thought that you have no taste? hehe no offence. I didn't know there was this much hate for them to be honest. The only problem I had with Supern Returns was that most of it was shot at night. WOuld have loved a bit more colour but as for the movie - yeah it's not superman the comics. In fact it's really superman 3. I loved that! Fingers crossed they do another with the return of Zod!
-
As long as they don't turn it into Trick 'PG13 Treat then I'll be happy.
-
and Superman 3 was a masterpiece compared to that dull, overwrought, badly acted, poorly written, laughably plotted tripe. I agree with you about the colour though. Superman is not Batman. We shall agree to differ about it though, as no-one is ever going to be converted arguing in a TB.
-
I thought the article said Singer was PRODUCING this flick, not directing. If that's the case, he can certainly get his Superman sequel done in the same timeframe if he wants to. I probably won't see it, but that's neither here nor there.
-
I just meant it seemed like Grindhouse in the horror/sci-fi anthology way, not in plot. Like Cat's Eye, Nightmares, Body Bags, Twilight Zone the Movie, etc..
-
That Singer focuses on SR II, because SR remains comic book filmdom's high water mark. Understand that not everyone agrees, but can't see how anyone can't call it "garbage" and "shit from top to bottom." You mean there was absolutely NOTHING of value in it? Don't think so, but again I'm biased. Anyway, I look forward to any replies when this is posted 3 weeks from now.
-
...make that "...can't see how anyone CAN call it..." Stupid kryptonite laced keyboard!
-
But I'll be honest...the first "Halloween" seriously creeped me out. I think it was because this was a man without a sense of remorse or emotion hacking and slashing. The fact this guy is supposedly mild mannered (Like the Truckee River Killer) is more appealing to me.
-
'Producing' encompasses such a wide variety of possible duties - from virtually nothing but a namecheck to a near total hands-on shadow-directorship. Either way it's not Singer will be too busy producing this flick to work on more Superman, it's just interesting that he's sending his Superman writing team off on other projects.
-
Have I had this row with you before? I think so. DId we not agree to differ last time. I can't be bothered to get into this again, but I will grant you that the sole good bit of the film was the plane rescue. Which had been all over the TV anyway. Forgive the hyperbole, but if you remember the row last time I abso-fucking-lutely hated that film. And BTW, fuck the return of Zod. I can't think of anything I want to see less than Singerman and son vs Zod. Especially after the prick was quoted saying he was especially excited as it gave them more of a chance to write about Super bastard kid- which interested him more.
-
We did agree to differ, and still do. Just thought I'd balance out the talkback. I guess we're both guilty of hyperbole. Anyway, I think we're in agreement about Zod - I'd rather see a different villain in the sequel (while I think Routh was great as Supes, I don't think anyone can fill Terence Stamp's spandex as Zod). Won't rehash the old arguments, but I like the idea of the kid. Where Singer goes with it is the question. Have a nice day!
-
nice to see not everyone here is anti-singer!
-
...with movies like 'Hulk' and 'Superman Returns,' they're neither as good nor as bad as people say they are. Well, it's subjective. But both of those movies have pretty obvious problems. At the same time the people who call them "utter shit," I think... I mean I don't know what I think, really. I think you get angry way too easily if you can't even think of a swear word to describe how much you hate Bryan Singer and his writers over a decent-ish flick like 'Superman Returns.'
-
I loved SR and wear my love proudly.
-
Me too. Same with Hulk. I'm not quite sure what the haters wanted...If they even knew themselves is in doubt :)
-
I like Hulk, but don't love it. I think I appreciate what Ang Lee was trying to do, but the concept was more successful than the execution. Having said that, there are parts that I do enjoy (particularly the desert chase/escape). I think Bryan Singer had similar intentions with Supes but was more successful in realizing them.
-
Are we still going to get that? I hope so.
-
I guess you got the point. And no, I'm not drunk.
-
Okay but we can all agree that F4 sucked and deserves swear-words right? ;)
-
Unlike that boring shite Pirates 3. There was a lot going on on that movie besides action. Get the point people!
-
I saw Superman Returns very close to PiratesOTC2 so perhaps my more favourable opinion of SR was, in part, due to the sheer stunning boredom induced by Verbinskis plotless wonder.
-
As much as I was displeased with (I don't loathe or hate) SR I can actually support a return for Singer (even though he is not the Second Coming of directing as so many apologists try to make him out to be) as long as those fucking hack writers are dumped. The problem wasn't the direction, look, feel or acting in the film it was the fucking soap opera with a couple set pieces thrown in for good measure of a screenplay. The next movie should be balls out Superman kicking ass action with dramatic elements. There should be little to NO mention of Superkid.
-
Since this has turned into a SR talkback....
The movie was a big flop in my view, although in my opinion it's hard as hell to write a movie around a being who can only be hurt through Kryptonite, which explains how most people I talk to enjoyed part 2 the most, seing as it's the only film where he actually is faced with a real challenge, although his symbol turning into cellophane was pretty weird. Anyway, singer made the damn thing move too slowly, and the plot was filled with as many holes as the rubber Mr.Kent must have used with Lois. -
let me smell your breath.
-
Singer is a hack. The crystal story was stupid. The fortress of solitude was darker than the batcave. Even William's anthemic score sound like it wuz played by third-graders. How can a movie cost 100 million more than Titanic, and have less money shots than a bad porno movie? Thank God, we have the Donner Superman II in November..........
-
It is just easier to blame singer than the writers as the direction was flawed as well. The real problem was the script and storyline.
-
I fink sopperman retuns was good. I liked it when he floo and that. why are you all sayin it was bad? it's better than your sooperman film that you never made. I want to see more films made by bryan adams, and I hope he makes a new album soon too im gettin sick of that robin hood one.
-
that is some funny shit. It's more appropriate for the MICHAEL BAY MAKE THINGS GO BANG BANG lot, though?
-
Has gone very quiet on the subject. It must be very awkward waiting by the phone for that sequel call...
-
michul bay? he was the best batmen ever. I love it when that white faced fuker joker said he loved his little toys. that new one isnt as good coz the bloke playin him looks like patrick batemun from that othe rfilm. Stop slaggin off sopperman u lot, until you can pick up a car like it was a fether then shut up.
