The TREK TOS SEs Decloak This Weekend!! Exalt!! Lament!! Say Meh!! Talkback Engaged!!
Merrick here...
I thought it might be fun to open a Talkback for the STAR TREK Original Series Special Editions, which premiere this weekend across the country.
If you're having trouble locating the show in your area, CLICK HERE for a list of stations carrying the SEs, or you can find a rundown of episode titles & airdates HERE.
Be aware: the TOS SEs are airing at odd times, ranging from afternoon hours, to prime time, to very late in the evening. In several markets, for exampe, "Balance of Terror" aired during the afternoon today, while "Miri" won't air until late tonight. This pattern isn't entirely unexpected given the nature of syndication, but it's still a tad strange considering the high profile nature of this endeavor.
I've only seen "Balance" thus far, and found it to be a mixed bag (in terms of overall Special Editionalization). A few of the FX seemed appropriately organic, while others screamed out tacky CGI that didn't integrate with either the feel of the show, or other newly rendered effects. The true triumph here, in my mind, is the dazzling new HD mastering - -which brings a depth of texture, detail, and color pallette that lend a whole new tone to the series (even though I did not see an HD broadcast today). The SEs definitely get a big tip of the hat in this regard. I've always LOVED Vincent McEveety's direction of this episode, BTW. So much flair.
So, all in all, a mixed bag thus far -- and I'd argue that such an undertaking should have been "out of the park". This being said, I'm curious to see how they handle some of the series' more effects intensive episodes ("The Corbomite Maneuver", "The Immunity Syndrome", and "The Ultimate Computer" for example). If they smooth out the inconsistencices...and maybe boost-up their rendering a bit...this could be a lot of fun.
Or, not.
So, what do you think? Can you even find the SEs on our local stations? If so, what are your thoughts so far?

The word is flair. He didn't explode into bright light.
-
Well Im really hyped for these special editions. Cant beat the crew of the Original Series but want to know when we'll see it in the UK ? Im certainly buying them on dvd when it happens.
Live long and prosper Kirk and Co.
(hey, and im a Star Wars fan really) -
time watching the SE star treks in a few minutes. I'll be back with my opinion on it. It's gonna be "Balance," and i'm going into it as a not-at-all-TOS-fan. I adore DS9, and the last 3-4 seasons of TNG. Starting with Voyager the show just... well. It lost me at least. anyways, I'll be back with a report. Unless I pass out.
-
But I did discover Heinz ketchup flavored potato chips today. They good.
-
Please re-insert a more modern, CG Clint Howard, possibly dressed as he was in "Ice Cream Man."
-
Sadly the version Buffalo 23 aired this evening was the edited 43 min one. The biggest improvement I noticed was the depiction of the Romulan Warbird. It looked more solid and not like something settled on due to poor budget and Desilu's habit of billing their own shows. Here we had a Desilu Production needing something out of studio wardrobe and then getting billed for it by your own company. With practices like these it is not surprising that the next time we saw Romulan ships they looked just like Klingon ships. I loved the shot of THE Enterprise after the nearby nuclear blast. It looked like a ship in 3D space as it listed and not like one tilted on the pole. I would have liked to have seen how they handled the Warbird just after the fatal attack to see how the ship on a string was handled but as I said I saw the 43 min version. I think it is very possible that some episode will come up with a change most of us will hate but we will just have to take it on a case by case basis. I for one do not want the Guardian of Forever images altered in the "City" episode but I am not going to mind some of those cloudless planets fixed up.
-
Soooo nice.
-
Glad to see someone point out just what Trek was up against during those years. Good point. None of my local stations are airing this so I am watching the torrent sites.....
-
Is still going to be a guy under a rug with pizza glued to it, right?
-
Our local station didn't show it when they advertised...anyone know where this can be downloaded?
-
Interesting the first episode aired is the one that Berman and Braga pissed on when they made the Romulan's and bad CGI people in "Enterprise" introduce a cloaking device to the 23rd century Trek timeline. And to think Berman hated this show; it's 'dated' writing only emphasises the isolation and suspense of space travel that the other Trek shows woefully needed. Also, the new effects successfully 'cleaned up' the old dark and out of focus effects kudos to Okuda!
-
...by the show itself. The ep was only mildly cheesy, and had some genuine good emotional moments. I can't wait to see more. ***** The SEization was, sure, kind of lame, but several of the external shots were very beautiful (there was one great shot of the Warbird, and the proximity blasters were quite pretty, even though they reused the shot three times). The image quality was great. ***** In general, I probably wouldn't be watching if not for the cleaning up of the image and the new special effects, but I wouldn't be watching 'Miri' tomorrow if the show itself wasn't quality.
-
if they are brodcasting them in canada? I just got canle hooked upto my igloo and was hoping to watch some SE TREK
-
who knows what the hell canle is, but my CABLE should work great..
-
It's been great rewatching a classic ep of Trek and trying to find all the improvements. Is it weird that I didn't really notice that huge of a difference besides the comment the Warbird hides in and a few close ups of the Warbird? "She Make It So" by Sacramento's finest Star trek band Warp 11:

12 midnight here in Denver on the WB.
-
...at 3:AM Sunday here in Phoenix, but the SECOND episode (Miri, and I always hated that one) is at 9:00 tonight! My local station thinks "An Officer and a Gentleman" is better television than Star Trek. (God-damn-fucked-in-the-ass-with-a-hamster-Richard-Gere, and it's not even a good movie BESIDES the ass-hamster-fucker!)
WTF? Idiots at television stations...
-
Ditto.
-
i'm in ottawa so i assume u toronto people will get this too but i noticed that tonight at 2am...or if u wanna be technical sunday the 17th...its playing on WXYZ, the detroit affiliate for ABC
it doesnt mention if its the new enhanced version but the show wasnt on this channel last week so it must be it. it doesnt mention which episode but it is indeed the original series and not one of the spinoffs. -
Watched the tonights side by side with the original DVD rips, and wow did they cut a lot of "B" story, and even a few effects shots. But it's a nice face lift. Something had lucas done, he would be hated so much. Nothing drastic here, just a nice bit of face lifting, odd they didn't update the closing credits, where you see the old bird of prey and enterprise, but I'm sure time was a factor here. Now if this is VERY sucessful, I'm sure we will see the WIZBANG version, with super cool new effects! Just like George did, and add all sorts of fixes to the plots, but for right now, today all I can say is… “The Gorn Didn’t Shoot First”
By the way... I’ve personally trademarked the phrase “Kirk Shot First” the moment I heard CBS was redoing the effects. Now if I can only score some of that sweet T-Shirt money! -
Have they ever fully explained how they will handle the 16x9 ratio? I always thought even though it was in 35mm, they only ever kept the 4x3 aspects of the raw print? So will they crop it? Or do they actually have the real full 16x9 footage laying around? I noticed on a few shots of the view screen things seemed closer than in the DVD print. If someone knows for sure, I'd love to hear about it.
-
B story was probably cut because its edited for television. When it's released on HD-DVD or bluray it will probably be the entire episode.
-
Not according to my cable listings anyway. I'll be recording Balance of Terror since KNBC is airing it at 12:05AM Sunday night/Monday morning. Though if I'm still up I'll be checking out the HD broadcast.
-
It had those black bars on the side. If the effects were enhanced i couldn't tell. The picture quality looked better though.
-
It looked clean. The new effects didn't stand out of place.
-
The title cards are old school. And I didn't see any new additions. Maybe I blinked
-
I would suggest that this show the essential problem with remastering
filmed media for High Definition. We are seeing things that are not
meant to be viewed with that clarity. Such as Spock's mascara. Such as
Yeoman Rand's pocky skin. Such as the cheesecloth filter used in the
last dramatic scene in the chapel. Such as the waxy color of Spock's
ears. Such as the difference in color between Shatner's natural hair
and his toupee.
As for the special effects, I was less bothered, except for the elements
that were also too sharp and plastic looking.
All and all, I think that this upgrade will not help sell Star Trek TOS
to a new audience. Any viewer coming to these episodes are likely to
think they look just plain weird. -
at 3am on KTXA in Dallas. It wasn't, just infomercials. Anybody know when or if this will be on in Dallas. I tried to call KTXA, but they are smart enough not to let people leave messages. Great customer service!
-
supposed to be on until 9/24, and if tonight was any indication, not even then. Good job KTXA!
-
too lazy to check... The Sunday Chron should give the heads up, but if anyone wants to just tell me, that'd be nice.
-
Sorry - I am easily amused by Herc's acronym headline. But at least this one was inevitable, unlike the well-thought out Star Wars ROTS.
-
i kid, i kid. i haven't seen the new eps but i'm really not bothered by the effects upgrade in principle. original trek can look butt fuggly at times. is it just the space ships or things like phasers as well?
-
allthough i am a brit i wait with interest to see weather they use honor and respect for the original serise as i think it could be very well done if the right approach is taken lets hope they come to the uk soon so i can see
-
02:35AM Sunday for Atlanta, thank the Gods for Tivo/DVR
-
I found it on the schedule and will watch it next saturday.
-
it says its on KYW (CBS) but it's not on thier schedual and I missed it.
-
in case anyone lives in Austin, it's on KNVA, not KXAN. Channel 54 (12 if you have time warner cable) at 4:00 on Saturday.
-
Was looking forward to the late nite watch in in SF and enjoyed for the most part - wish it was the full length and in digital broadcast. Must be the 83rd time I've seen it since I was a kid and still enjoy TOS. Effects-wise it became one of those things that got too over-hyped and after watching that bit of effects on the web from the pitch on Doomsday Machine I was looking for more. With today's effects the set-up is much faster and renderings all the more realistic. Saw that here sometimes and sometimes not - way not. Once I got through it I understand not wanting to "Lucas" it, but for physics sake and for the sake of where the phasers really are supposed to fire from and photon torpedoes too I would've liked the sc-fi physics to have been corrected. That, and why doesn't the Enterprise over shoot them everytime in warp? This was a great episode of TOS and a great send-up of the WWII submarine movies - "what was that guy's name? Kurt Jergins . . . drop and gimme twenty . . . "
-
Why the hell can't producers and industry types let shit lie and not screw with it and move on. I know it Star Trek's 40th but damn,
this was the one thing that used to separate Star Trek from Star Wars but now it's no better. I've seen the new effects and most of it looks like a fan project and I mean that in a bad way. Maybe some of the other episodes will surprise me but as far as what I've seen....BOO!!! -
You would do credit to yourself as a reviewer if you never, ever used this phrase again. It's overused, and half the time just offered as filler. If you mean "There's some good and some bad" then just SAY that. "Mixed bag" has become the worst reviewer's cliche, and I'll be happy if nobody ever uses that stupid phrase again.
-
Why is this? Wasn't it originally broadcast on NBC in an hour's time? Is it just because they used to not run as many commercials back then?
-
now more like 42 something with opening and closing. Kirk's talk w/ McCoy is clipped bad too.
-
Washington DC....where the orginal Enterprise is kept under glass in the downstairs foyer of the Air & Space Museum's Gift Shop...and not a single station carrying these shows. I blame Bush, as I do for everything.
-
...you humans call "nostalgia"? Most illogical.
-
So it's got the old models behind them? That's fucking stupid. They need to change that for the HD-DVD release, dammit!
-
Now the bridge crew doesn't have to endure having their sensor readings cropped down by pan-n-scan! Or was the viewer always like that? Maybe HDTV has been left off the list of technologies predicted by Star Trek. Mind you, I think it's up in the air whether HDTV will be broadly adopted by the 23rd century. Really tho, the picture looks great, and the new effects fit right in. Thanks again Paramount! Too bad about cutting down the length; but when channels like Comcast's G4 endeavor to play the old series uncut, it takes them like 1:12 to get through a single ep.
-
And it's on at 2AM Monday morning.
-
i know the enterprise flying through space looks smoother than i remember it. what i want to see is how they replace those matte paintings of alien cities and landscapes. that might look pretty cool.
-
But only cause they told me to.
-
...in Charlotte, NC. I'll tape it and watch it tonight. I think this is the ep with an updated space station and view of Earth from space. ***** Everyone I've talked to wishes that CBS was changing more rather than trying to perfectly replicate the effects...but I guess they're gunshy after the poor reception of the SW:SEs.
-
Gosh.
-
Viacom/Paramount didnt just offer them, they basically just switched them out for stations that were airing ENTERPRISE.. Since ENTERPRISE was such a shit on a cracker stinker, stations had it in oddball places.

...I had been drinking heavily, so... Seriously, I thought they did a good job making the effects look better without making them seem jarringly different.

Is this site going to be fixed? How long does it take to debug a forum thats this simplistic???

When are we getting a Howard the Duck special edition??
by yoda's ball sack
Trek is boring.
-
hatramroany: Trek airs on WPSG, Ch.57 in Philadelphia, on Sunday @ 11 AM. KYW does NOT air Star Trek at all. (I work there; we run both stations.) No HD...yet. They are looking into it. (They didn't realize it was available in HD - no joke)
-
It told me when it was a couple weeks ago, so no fretting pour moi.
-
Anybody seen any torrents for these? Stupid Canadian stations don't have them :( And none of the American affiliates that I get is airing them either! :( Booooo to invisible STSE! Hoooray Stargate!
-
My local station is appearantly showing them in reverse order than everyone else... they broadcast "Miri" Sat night and are showing "Balance" Sun night. Not a whole lot of effects in Miri - planet shots looked great (earth has clouds now). There's one scene where Kirk stuns one of the child-creatures and they kept the original phaser beam effect. It's only about a 2 sec shot (I guess it would have been more trouble than it was worth to redo it). Still, I was hoping they would have re-done the phaser beam shots - many of them were embarassingly bad.
-
is the first person I would have picked for this project, so they've done good already. I know as a thirtysomething male I'm supposed to be intensely against any changes, but as good and faithful as the updated FX were, I was disappointed they didn't do a little more. I know, they can't win no matter what they do, but I think most reasonable people would have been ok with, say, some explosion residue or a more dramatic list in the shot where the Enterprise is hit, for example. I don't think the Enterprise has looked better anywhere than in "Trials and Tribbelations". I bet if they loosen up a little in upcoming episodes, most of the offended fans will get over it after a little time and it might help bring in more viewers, which was part of the point in the first place, I believe.
-
and it was pre-empted by a FUCKING RODEO. A rodeo. Inbred hillbillies roping cows. Instead of the remastered Star Trek.
-
And I don't see any difference. They showed an external shot of the Enterprise aside from the nacell being animated it looked exactly the same...
-
Hey... I've always been a firm believer that special effects should work in concert with all the other elements of a film/show to tell the story. Anyone who watched EP1 knows how much it went over the top in effects and left quite a bit in the story department. I like Minority Report (yes the story had flaws) because the visual effects dont overwhelm the telling of the story. Even though you knew what was probably an effect and what wasnt, it worked well with the look of the film. All that said, I think updating these effects worked very well with the "overall look" of the show. I thought the plasma blast in Balance of Terror looked cheesy - BUT it looked good in the context of the show. And the one shot (used only once) of the camera going from bow to stern of the warbird was just cool! In Baltimore, the times of the show are all over the place.
-
...and I have to say I'm disappointed. I don't think that they're really "honoring Roddenberry's memory" by limiting the CGI to EXACTLY THE SAME DAMN SHOTS AS IN 1966! He was simply limited by the FX of the day. He proved this in that ST:TMP had better effects than the series, TWOK had better FX than TMP, and TNG had better than both of them (and itself improved greatly as time went by).
The smart thing would have been to really update the shots, and make the ships and tools behave like they do and look like they do) in the later movies and series. Let modern FX technology bring the oldest series into continuity with the later shows.
And a barrel roll or two wouldn't necessarily suck. -
...Gus Van Sant's version of Psycho. Lazy bitches.
-
Remember, you heard it here first.
-
isn't broadcasting in HD.
-
The broadcast in Fort Wayne, Indiana sucked. The local CBS station showed Balance of Terror on the UPN cable channel they also own, and it was full of artifacts. I could barely tell the effects were new because of the poor picture quality of this station. The reruns on G4 look much better than what I saw. I guess I'll have to wait a few years to get these on hi-def DVD!
-
Miri is on at 10:00. Almost too subtle. The overall clarity is outstanding. The planets definitely look better. The photons reflecting on the hull as they were fired was cool but the overall consensus with the friends I watched it with was if you didn't tell us it was enhanced we might not have noticed. What a fickle bunch of geeks we are.
-
All these years I have had this question. When the Romulans fired the plasma weapon at the Enterprise, and the enterprise backed up to avoid the shot, why didn't it turn slightly to let it pass? They went straight back for 2 minutes! I don't think a bolt of plasma can be guided.
Gosh, it feels good to have the question out! I am such a geek... -
Like others have said, it wasn't that much different. Probably most people wouldn't notice unless they were told the effects had been changed.
I was kind of hoping they'd actually show the Romulan Bird of Prey explode this time, but they kept the old cheesy effect. -
Episodes scheduled for last night came on in Dallas on tonight at 9 and 10pm on a different station(!) I missed first 35 minutes of BoT but saw all of Miri. It must have a last minute change of stations: it was not on the schedule.
Anyway, color is MUCH MORE vivid. Phaser coolant is PIIINK! The CG ship effects, unfortunately, are no where near as good as the Treks of late, including Enterprise. They should have had the same effects people from Enterprise etc. doing these effects. I am looking forward to see how they redo the classic location matte shots: I hope they do more than just reproduce them in CGI; like have some movement of the camera and elements in the shot for example, but we'll see. Looking forward to the Fesarius. And are they going to fix that zoom into the bridge on The Menagerie? Are they going to fix McCoy's shirt switch in Corbomite? We'll see. (If I can find when and where they show it!) -
The Star Trek site states that these TOS special editions are airing in Illinois/Chicago on WCIU/CHANNEL 6 on Comcast. I've looked through the channel 6 menu and don't see any Star Trek listings anywhere. Does this mean Chicago's gonna miss out?
-
It was Okay. Looked almost the same. The ships flew to the side like always.
-
The special effects looked decent, but the makeup is HORRID! It looks similar to how the Tonight Show looked when it first broadcasted in HDTV and women looked like kabuki... What worked for television 40 years ago is not the case for tv now. My 42" Sony HDTV cringed when it had to display Spock's pancaked, streaky mascara lined-face and plastic ears. Took me right out of the show and made me think about spoofs such as Space balls and the old Star Wrek spoof books... *sigh*
Still, can't wait for the Trouble with Tribbles. I love that show, and seeing a Tribble in HD will be worth it. lol -
It's actually on one of WCIU's digital substations, WWME. On Comcast, it's channel 223, I believe (obviously digital cable only).
-
Fuck NBC indeed! But I'm not following your explanation. If Trek got pushed because of football, then how come I got the last half hour from 3:30 on my dvr? It seems they started it early-- not later or "already in progress." I don't get it. Maybe I just need my coffee.
-
I had my DVR programmed for whenever the show started and it only caught the last five minutes....bullshit indeed
-
Well, I thoiught it would be fun to see Trek back on WSB here in Atlanta (our NBC affiliate 40 years ago when I first watched the show, now an ABC station.) They were certainly thrilled to be showing the new editions; they aired Balance of Terror at 2:30 AM and wedged it into a 55 minute slot. Since the original ran 52 minutes WITHOUT commercials, the editing was a bit choppy. They didn't bother to show Miri (no big loss, I guess.)
The new prints look really nice. As for the new FX, if you had told me they were just the originals remastered to HD, I might have believed it. CBS Paramount kept their promise of slavishly reproducing the look of the originals at HD resolution (I wasn't watching an HD broadcast, but they looked nice.) The major improvements were the comet sequence and a couple of exteriors where they changed the angle to break up the repetitive quality of the original FX. I applaud the respect they are showing the series, but...
The idea of making FX changes was pitched about ten years ago by Deren Dochterman (there's a McCoy joke in that name somewhere) who had done a pass on The Doomsday Machine (he had the whole episode posted back in the day and a lot of you probably saw it.) An improved version of those FX was started before Paramount said "no" to the project. (see http://www.trekenhanced.com/ ) He did a nice traveling mat shot of Kirk walking in front of an improved viewscreen display of planetary debris. It didn't change the story a bit, but added a sense of drama to the scene. I could have gone for a few upgraded bridge FX like that one at the expense of the original look of the show.
Case in point: CBS Paramount left in the cheesy Neutral Zone map with the flashing light to indicate the Enterprise's position. I'm pretty much a purist, but I really wouldn't have cried to see the 1960's "business presentation slides" removed from the bridge. Stuff like that really yanks me out of the story. It was dated looking when it was new.
I was surprised how dark the episode looked. They really used a lot of dramatic lighting on close ups in this episode and the bridge came off as dimly lighted as STTMP.
Still, it was pretty cool. It holds up on my big screen much better than the episodes I've just watched on the TVLand 40th celebration, which seems to be the victory condition they set for themselves. I'll reserve final judgment until I see episodes that were really lacking from low budget effects work (some nice fleet shots for Ultimate Computer or Errand of Mercy would be great.) -
I have an idea that has probably been considered already, but with his connections, surely Mike Okuda could find someone who worked on the FX for the show in 1966 and ASK THEM what they would have done or wanted to do back then. I have read his interviews and he's updating the effects, shot for shot, based on what they did assuming it was what they wanted. I'm betting they would have done a bit more in Balance of Terror if they had the ability. Like Uncle Clay smartly said above, we know for a fact Roddenberry wanted to have more dynamic effects in each subsequent Trek project, so it is fairly easy to assume he would have wanted better for TOS. I'm definitely not talking about ESB Falcon barrel-rolls for the Enterprise, but like we discussed above, a few more dynamic shots would have been nice. Of course there is no reason why they can't spice things up going forward and do a little more on Balance of Terror before the DVD release. Again, I'd say look at DS9's Tribbles episode for how sweet the Enterprise can look without taking away from the live action work. And yes, I think it would be great to see some of that T&T live action footage with the DS9 crew put in the updated version. It isn't that radical an idea. It isn't like I'm talking putting little Anakin at the end of Jedi here and, OMG, it would be cross promotion for another Trek (Berman was insanely against that kind of thing). Come to think of it, I hope JJ has at least heard of DS9 and has a higher opinion of it than Bermaga did.
-
Color looks great, and damn, Uhura is hot! The FX should've been way more dynamic. Go crazy, just don't change the story.
-
I really thought the ships and the planets and the comet was really well done. I was hoping that the were actually going to change the starfield and maybe some of the effects on the main viewer and even the weapons...the colour and crispness of the hd is great..i just guess I was hoping for a bit more for a SPECIAL ED.
-
i was wrong about how much my dvr recorded-- it was only the last 10 minutes starting at 3:30-- which jibes Access Hollywood being on when you woke up at 3:40... but still, i have found no reason for this fuck up.
-
Can anyone tell me when these SE episode's will be arriving in the UK
-
Sounds like most are of the mind that they should have changed some of the effects shots to "update" things a little more. I agree - not sure what they point in even doing it is if you don't try and make the story flow a little more. In '66, they didn't have the budget or ability to show the ships really engaging in combat with phasers and plasma charges hitting the hulls (or close to them), so lets see it now so that the story flows better. If this were my project, my charter would have been the same (stay as close to the original as possible), but with the caveat of add an effects shot to replace a flash of light on the viewscreen to indicate battle damage. And as an add on to the previous points about the effects shots, I would also have color corrected the ship interiors. Is there anyone on this forum that would onject to color correcting the bridge so that the crew isn't lit up like they are at a Pink Floyd laser show? The show looks dated more because in one room, there are greens, reds, blues, yellows, etc. lighting up the walls. Leave the pipes and the set pieces alone, but change the ambient lighting so that it looks like a starship and not a Duran Duran concert!
-
by some fluke I turned on the tube around 2:50, and there was Trek. I figured MAYBE they were airing the old and then the new (yeah, right), but I just hit "record" and left. So they DID air something... maybe they cut it off. Who knows, but it sucks no matter how you slice them.
-
The big issue with this enhancement is; do they copy the original as much as possible (regardless of how it looks), or do they reasonably update FX shots? Assuming it costs around the same amount to show the Enterprise in the same pose as the 1960's version, compared to, say, banking around for a second attack on the Federation Fleet in The Ultimate Computer, they should go ahead and do one, and only one, episode with more dynamic updated FX shots and see what the reaction is. It won't do that much harm if people hate just one episode (which is the worst case scenario) and if most love it, then they can continue to be a little more creative without changing or detracting from the story. I think they are (justifiably) worried about a Star Wars backlash, but unlike that situation, the original TOS episodes have been available on DVD for some time now and, if I may be so bold, many Trek fans are more reasonable on the subject. Anyway, my point is, why not experiment the more creative FX shots in one testbed episode and see how fan reaction goes?
-
I’m embarrassed to say that I couldn’t find it here in the Swamps of Jersey. I just may have to up my cable tier. I’m waiting for the DVDs – there is a reason why the boxed sets prices came down.
-
Thanks for the info but you’re killin’ me – Philly 57 had no clue that it was in HD… Did Paramount just let the 40th Anniversary of STAR TREK slip by without promoting the updated originals? I suppose the big marketing push will go into the 40th Anniversary set of DVDs.
-
Your idea augments my issue about comparing the Trek upgrade to the Star Wars F/X upgrade. Star Wars was updated by its creator who is thus endowed with the original vision (even if he misses the mark in execution at times) - while Trek FX upgrades are far removed from the show's late creator. IMHO your idea would bridge the gap if it is executed well.
-
They aired it from 2:45. Basically they moved their scedual earlier without telling a soul they did it, even my digital TV box had it for 3:35.
If anyone could please post a tourent of this it would be much apreciated, i know one is floating around usernext.
