News on ROCKY & BULLWINKLE and the CARMEN SANDIEGO movie

Published at:  Jan 21, 1999 5:48:44 AM CST

Wow, it's amazing to see a day come along where perfect casting stares you in the eye... twice... concerning ANIMATED and/or COMIC Characters, but that's what was announced over at The Hollywood Reporter today.

First up we have Jennifer Lopez in negotiations to star as CARMEN SANDIEGO. Sandra Bullock was long rumored to be attached to this beloved children's show-to-feature film project, and personally... as much as I like Sandra... Jennifer Lopez will be FANTASTIC in the role... if they have a script worth shooting. According to T.H.R. there is still no director attached. What have you heard about the project, script, etc?

Then, seemingly putting to rest those AWFUL (in my opinion) MTV rumors of whatsherface playing NATASHA, we have Rene Russo just a hair away from signing on to play the femme fatale in the big budget Universal ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE. She'd play the taller sexier half of the bad duo, with Jason "Seinfeld" Alexander playing Boris. I've been marveling for a long time at the concept of Robert De Niro as Fearless Leader. Rocky and Bullwinkle will be... CGI creations, and it is not certain, in what style they will be rendered. But whatever it is... THIS IS A COOL WEIRD FILM I NEVER CONCEIVED WOULD REACH THE SCREEN! Strange film thus far...

    Wasn't there a R&B movie a few years ago?

    by tallvenusian

Am I crazy, or wasn't there a live action Rocky and Bullwinkle movie released recently (within the last five years)? I seem to recall some SCTV people were behind it. Was this movie never released, or was it just so bad everybody has forgotten it?

    Boris & Natasha

    by caius

Dave Thomas and Sally Kellerman starred in a "Boris & Natasha" movie, oh, about 8 years back or so. They were OK as the bumbling spies, left in the lurch as the iron curtain fell, who fall in love with blatant consumerism. "Moose and Squirrel" appear, sort of, in an almost-clever twist that didn't quite work. It was pulled from theaters immediately and sold directly to Showtime. There were some damn funny bits in it, but overall disappointing and watchable only for novelty's sake. Think "3 Amigos."

    casting natasha

What about Kristen Johnson from 3rd Rock? She could easily look the part with a little help from Miss Clariol or a wig.

srd rock form the russian spy...

    by phinx

Kristen Johnson would fit the part of Natasha, but she's already going to be Ivana Humpalot, a russian spy in the Austin Powers sequel. But still, Rene is much better than Mariah...

    Carmen Sandiego

    by splat

Whoa, this is the first I've heard about a Carmen Sandiego movie.. that's awesome! Ever since I played the computer games (must have been 10 years ago) I've thought that Carmen Sandiego would make a kick-ass flick. Does anyone know if it's going to be a kids-movie or adult-oriented? Obviosuly, the latter would be preferred. -Dan

Hey, there's no reason to "Three Amigos" bash. Much, much better than "Boris and Natasha".

    Rocky and Bulwinkle

    by rudbekia

Was Angelica Houston considered for Natasha? Too type-casty? Too old? (I don't think so) She would have great fun with this I think. Who will be the voices for Rocky & Bulvinkle Moose? Are the originals still around?

Rocky & Bullwinkle: Dead or Alive?

    by maniacalmichael

June Foray, the voice of Rocky, is alive & working. She still does the voice of Granny on "The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries" & was the voice of the grandmother in "Mulan." Unfortunately, Bill Scott, the voice of Bullwinkle (& George of the Jungle & Dudley Do-Right) died a few years ago
