Maria Carey as Natasha in ROCKY & BULLWINKLE

Published at:  Jan 17, 1999 7:20:04 AM CST

In a million years I couldn't imagine this casting as working one intsy bitsy bit, but... ya know, stranger things have happened. Not many, but there have been some. Personally, I'd cast Bebe Neuwirth, but that's just me. How about y'all?

I got this from MTV's website:

Mariah Carey wants to be a Russian spy... sort of.

The songbird did a screen test after the holidays in her New York
apartment for the part of Natasha Fatale, a seductive secret agent in
the upcoming big screen adaptation of "The Adventures of Rocky and
Bullwinkle."

The picture, based on the animated series, already has Jason Alexander
locked in as Natasha's counterpart Boris Badenov and Robert DeNiro as
Fearless Leader.

Carey did several takes in make-up and costume, and apparently had the
accent down pat. Shooting is scheduled to being in February although
"The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" won't hit theaters until
sometime next year.

    Begrudglingly said...

    by macsuirtain

...I suppose she could do it. Stranger things have happened (Courtney Love in "The People vs. Larry Flint"). I just loathe Mariah Carey music so much, I don't know if I could get past that "sweet sweet fantasy baby" crap and give her a shot. Boris and Natasha have a special place in my heart -- I used to ask Russian co-workers in Moscow to say "Blast that moose and squirrel" for the vast humor value (don't worry -- they got me back by making me do Russian cartoon voices - we're even.) I'm just curious how they're planning on doing the Rocky and Bullwinkle characters...

    Grumble

    by macsuirtain

Oh bugger. You know, I do know how to spell "begrudgingly". And I'd hoped to not appear, in my first post here, to be one of those twits who can't spell. I'll just blame it on cold fingers after two days in a cold, powerless apartment.

    Rocky and Bullwinkle kick ass!!

    by cuppa joe

I just need to say that Rocky and Bullwinkle is one of my favorite cartoons, and I can't wait to see it all on the big screen! So far it's got TOP actors to be in it, so I hope it's as good as I think it'll be. I just hope that June Foray will once again provide the voice for Rocky the flying squirrel. She's still alive, and she was the original voice, so it only makes sense to hire her up.

    More sad tales of "names"

    by sterling wolfe

I just get so tired of people being cast even when they're very wrong for the part, and have no acting training, just because they are famous.

And yes, I agree that Bebe would have done a fine job.

    best,

    casting is fine.

    by caliban

I think casting Mariah Carey is just fine. Why? Because the whole notion of a live action Rocky and Bullwinkle is one of the worst ideas for a film since, well since the Boris and Natasha film.
Rocky and Bullwinkle is a classic cold war satire. It's animated. It is wondeful.
Why must Hollywood continue to tarnish great works by reviving them in such an awful manner.

    Just One Problem...

    by devinagain

Mariah Carey's no taller than 5'3" -- and as any R&B fan knows, Natasha's got a good two feet on Boris. Who would they cast for Boris? Billy Barty?

For my money, give me Angelia Jolie for Natasha... yeah, baby!

    I don't know about this...

    by glitterstar180

Is Hollywood getting so desparate that they must do this? Well, at least Mariah Carey will be nicer to look at than Sally Kellerman... I'm losing faith in humanity here!

    Mariah is hot

    by moby

I don't go on the internet and download nude photos of ANYONE. I don't download fakes of Mariah. I'm not a pervert and I'm not a stalker, but I think Mariah is hot. She's hotter than any singer I can think of. I simply think she's beautiful. Like Star Trek Insurrection, if the movie stinks, who cares? I spent time with my friends in that movie and I spend time with Mariah in this one.

    Natasha Casting

    by herr k

I can promise you right now, that Mariah Carey will not be playing Natasha. A friend of mine is one of the assistant costumers on Rocky and Bullwinkle and the person gave me a basic rundown of the cast. Robert De Niro as Fearless Leader, Jason Alexander as Boris and (get this) Rene Russo! as Natasha. This is not a joke, she has already been cast and is being fitted for costumes as we speak. The film goes under the lenses in February and will finish shooting in May. My friend also has the script so if anyone is interested in knowing anything about the film, throw me an e-mail. This person will gladly tell me anything I want to know.

    DwD: Strange Bedfellows

    by dwdunphy

So, how do you lock in the extra advertising of a hit soundtrack in order to push a movie concept of debatable virtue? Cast one of the three devil divas in the movie, thereby locking a song from her into the thing. Would Celine or Whitney have done a better job than Mariah? I don't know. I don't care. This is Godzilla, folks: big concept but most will be disappointed and ignore the movie in droves. Still, the answer to this has already been mentioned: Famke Jannsen as Natasha (Throw in Casper Van Dien as Dudley Do Right and Bridget Fonda as Nell and we may have a deal).
