SPOILERISH News on BOND 19!!!

Published at:  Jan 12, 1999 4:16:22 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

Hey folks, here's a report on a part that has already been filmed for BOND 19, with the help of the BBC. Sounds pretty cool...

Yo Harry,

Withnail here over in the UK.

Have got a small BOND film snippet for you which will be of special interest
to British fans.

Some filming was done over at the BBC main studios last week for The World
Is Not Enough.

It was for a scene where 007 is searching through the MI6 archives for
information on Electra.

He comes across a short TV Newsreport from 1987, and it's a Newsflash read
by the real life highly repsected, veteran BBC News anchor Martyn Lewis.

The newsreport says:

"We're getting reports that the Electra King kidnap ordeal is over. The
Cyprus authorities say she has escaped after shooting dead two of her
captors - and is 'as well as can be expected' after her six week ordeal. Her
father, the Industrialist Sir Robert King, is believed to be on his way to
Cyprus to be reunited with his daughter"

The info came to me from a friend who's been involved in pre-production on
the movie.

It's a nice touch getting Martyn Lewis to present the archive news report as
he's one of the most long standing BBC presenters around. Apparently they
even asked the BBC to reconstruct the studio from the mid 1980s to make it
all look as authentic as possible.

Hope this helps throw some background on Electra's character.

    Unlikely...

    by p0rkzer

I think the stuff about Martyn Lewis being in Bond 19 is EXTREMELY unlikely. British terrestrial television journalists (i.e: non SKY) have a long-standing code of conduct which prohibits appearances in fictional programming or advertisements. Lewis himself appeared in an information film for the IBA (the Independent Broadcasting Authority) in the eighties where this was spelled out. Of course, his coat is on a shaky peg at the BBC, so you never know - a career move? I'd also question the notion that he is a respected veteran journalist. He's the guy who wants nice news, not nasty stuff about Iraqi bombing and so wrote a book called "Cats In The News". I kid you not.

    Martyn Lewis?

    by hcearwicker

He obviously meant Martin and Lewis, involving the unlikely resurrection of the two greatest comedy talents of our century.

    Confirmation

    by chopper3

I live in Shephards Bush (about 1 mile from the BBC studios) and I have a couple of friends who work in BBC News. I just called one of them who said that "Yes, that happened, but I don't think they really went out of their way to make the set look too '80's".

    Hope this helps.

    Porkzer...TWAT!!!

    by the quest

Ok so people disagree on this site but god - slagging off the talents of Martin Lewis - a newsreader is an absolute joke!
Porkzer - you immediately dismiss this rumour as trash, but it seems it is true - why do you feel you cannot believe this rumour - it surely does not seem unlikely this would happen. It's not as if Bond has an an affair with him.
How many people sit at home and do not post ANY news they hear in fear of being shot down by people like yourself? It is arrogant, selfish and self opionated and obviously shows that you are the type of person that can only stand up to someone behind the security of a screen and a few thousand miles. I have had numerous threatening, rude and obsene E-Mails to me and I feel it is time to stop. If someone puts up a post let's respect it and if we criticise it - let's criticise it constructively!! As for Porkzer - I feel it's best to ignore twats like that and I know Harry agrees with me.

Roll on Bond 19 - and here's to Martin Lewis - a top newsreader!!!

    Chill, dude!

    by zaphod

Gosh, Mr. "The Quest", I didn't think P0rkzer's post was all that horrible. It's the kind of post I love to see, disagreeing without getting personal, making an argument using logic to back up one's opinion. Sure, he may be wrong, but he has a right to express his opinion, especially in such a respectful way. I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but just from what I can see in TalkBack I think you maybe need to switch to decaf, dude. At the same time, I do agree with you that people should not be so quick to jump all over anything that's posted, especially when they start calling names. On another page people are saying "Harry, you suck you fat bastard," and stuff like that, which if I were Harry I'd just delete their userIDs, but hey, he's more tolerant of morons than I am, apparently.

Bond 19 Script: I read it and it SUCKS!

    by uncapie

I won't give too much away, but Q retires and is replaced by a new fop that couldn't fill Major Boothroyd's shoes! The Bond girl's name is CHRISTMAS. The end joke is: "Christmas CAME early this year." after Bond has done his duty for Queen and Country. Hyuk, hyuck! That's a funny line, hyuk, hyuck! They need to write a REAL BOND SCRIPT, not some cutesy, wimpy Casper Milquetoast Bond. Think about it: you walk into a bar and Pierce Brosnan as Bond picks a fight with you."Oooohhhhh, I'm sooooo scared!" Sean Connery walks in as Bond and wants to kick your ass. You run for the door...quick! The Bond movies have slowly deteriorated from the majestic tower they once held. They need a new Bond. LEWIS COLLINS("The Final Option") would be prefect as the next Bond and he's the right age. What's Robert Carylise going to do as Bond's nemesis? Wiggle his willy in front of Bond? "Do you expect me to talk?" "No, Mr. Bond I expect you to die!" Wiggle, wiggle!

Bond 19 is going to rock!

    by sharmo

Firstly, I like to thank Harry for the regular updates on bond 19!.I think bond 19 is going to be the best bond so far, because it has an awsome script, a all star cast and a brilliant director. I read that M. Apted wants to bring more characterization and realism to the new film as the news breif above shows. Bond 19 in my opinion will be a thriller rather than an action movie (thank God!). I think Robert Carlyle is going to be a meancing villian (take a look at his cracker appearance). To those people who wants to go back to the 60's type of bond movies, it aint going to happen, live with it these are the 90's where action comes first. Futhermore, there is no body at present who can replace Brosnan and he is doing just fine as far as I am concerned. He was much better in TND than in GE. "The world is not enough" should be second on everybody's 'must see' movie list this year, after "The phantom meance" of course.

If you are not looking forward to seeing the new Bond film....the answer is...DON'T GO AND SEE IT!!!!!!

    Reply to Talkback

  • All Bonds, in my mind, are brilliant. They always include the classic chases and babes. Pierce Brosnan was a good choice. He is smooth and respectable. Yes, Sean Connery was the best but Pierce is the ninetees bond!!
If you don't like Bond films then stop complaining. They are all good. They may not be the same as they used to but times change - Bond changes.

Recently, I heard in a newspaper that after Bond 19, they were going to scrap the Bond girls as it was thought to be sexist - TYPICAL WHINING FEMINISTS. Bond girls are the trade mark of the films. Get rid of them and you may as well say adios to Bond. What are your thoughts on this? I don't want to start a feminist war but it isn't sexist for Bond having a different lady friend for every film is it?
    Grateful for any replys

    Bond girl kiss off1

    by matt broben

Jesus fucking Christ! They're going to destroy everything that makes these films so cool. They've stopped him smoking, they've scrapped the violence - compare the limp theatrics of the last two to the violent action of From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the opening of Diamonds Are Forever and most of Licence to Kill. Bond needs violence - no violence no sense of menace and hence no excitement. They've done away with the the great storylines and now they want to get rid of the Bond Girls because some bra-burner who probably never watches them says so. (Has anyone noticed that in the caring sharing nineties Bond doesn't hit the Bond girl?). I know we're doomed when the gay lobby get in on the act and demand that Bond shags a bloke.
