Published at:  Jan 06, 1999 2:27:06 AM CST

Harry here, alerting those of you headed up to Sundance this year to keep your eyes open for this flick, it sounds a bit cool. But, you folks will be the ones to tell us, so write in when ya see it all...

As for movies coming up at SUNDANCE the one to see it "THE BLAIR WITCH
PROJECT"!!! The most creepy fuckin mockumentary made... ever. The film is
about a group of film stdents who set out to make a documentary about a rash
of childrens disapearings over the last 100 years in a small main town. The
arrive and beging asking too many questions and they disapear and hteo nly
thing found is a bag full of Hi8 videotapes and rolls of 16mm film. The cool
part about the movie is that it was all shot on either Hi8 or 16mm. Cool
technical aspect is that the filmakers didn't blow their Hi8 or 16milli up
to
1:85 or 2:35 the left it at a squar 1:33!! BRILLIANT I SAY!!

    sounds fishy...

    by axos

I read about this flick at the Sundance '99 site and the story sounds exactly like that of the movie, "The Last Broadcast," which was shown at last year's ResFest, a digital film fest of sorts. "The Last Broadcast" was apparently shot with various formats i.e. hi8mm, 16mm, and lots of digital video. I think the genre flick at Sundance '99 to keep track of is "The Item," shot on digital video, it's about a bunch of guys guarding a psychic worm-like creature...

    Supposedly factual story

    by faust

I have heard about the "Blair Witch Project" for about two years now. John Pierson's "Split Screen" program on the IFC channel did some coverage on this supposedly true story about three filmmakers in Maryland who look for the Blair Witch in the woods, and never returned. The families had said that they disappeared back in 1994/95. Some film footage and videotapes were found by an anthropology group and turned over to the police.

The footage they showed on "Split Screen" was eerie and formed goosebumps on my arm. I am not sure that this project is truth, I think it is a hoax, but I still want to see the film and I am glad it's finally getting the light of day. They have an equally eerie site for this film called "The Blair Witch Project."

    The Blair Witch Project

    by obnoxious bitch

I just got to see the Blair Witch Project over last weekend. It IS creepy. One of THE most creepy flicks I've seen in a LONG time.
No eerie music, no special effects, and a lot of it happens in broad daylight--and it is STILL creepy!!
Ostensibly a student film, whose footage was found in the woods where its makers "disappeared", it concerns the investigation of the "Blair Witch", a local Maryland legend. It's shot--clumsily--in video and 16mm. But the story & characters tend to pull one into it. It traces the psychological deterioration of the 3 young people who head out into the woods to investigate the legend of the Witch and become lost in the process--as well as encountering an evil we never see.
Once you get past the deliberately amateurish feel of the flick, you will be totally creeped out. Definitely worth a look-see!

    Not Really

This story is fictional. I did a little background checking and there is no Blair county in Maryland. No reports of missing students and no legends of child stealing witches. Good flick though.

    Blair Witch On Split Scree

    by scottra

I am a jaded horror fan, I havn't seen a movie since I was a kid that gave me anything resembeling a scare, But when I saw the Footage from "The Blair Witch Project" on Bravo last year it realy honestly freaked me out. There is a certain sense of authenticity to the footage, and an errieness in the air that still sticks with me today. And the reactions of the actors seemend very real, as you watched them sink into insanity, lost in the woods, being followed/attacked by an unseen menace... I know this sounds like bullshit hype. But from what I saw it had a real creepiness that sticks with you for a long time. I hadn't felt anything like it since I first heard about the Zodiac killer in the 70's. I almost don't want to see the full film, just so I can keep my memory of it in case the whole thing sucks. But I know I will... Thanks for the info Harry!
