Peter Proud reports on THE BREAKERS, BICENTENNIAL MAN and Disney's DINOSAUR!!!

Published at:  Jan 05, 1999 2:02:18 AM CST

Well once again we are dealing with the constant reincarnation of Peter Proud, a spy
that’s been with us for a loooooooong time. This go at life, he’s been floating around like
a butterfly, and picked up the following bits on THE BREAKERS, BICENTENNIAL
MAN and DINOSAURS, so keep reading and he’ll enlighten your spirits with a few bits
here and there....

Your long absent spy Peter Proud reporting here (it's been 2 years since
you christened me with that name, thanks). Last I read (from the
Exhibitors Relaitons monthly report), "The Breakers" has been listed by
MGM for a summer 1999 release and not Cher, but Angelica Huston and
Alicia Silverstone are slated to star. the plot written in the document
is a bit sketchy but it involves some kind of a mother-and-daughter con
women tandem, could it be a rehash of Huston's "The Grifters" for the
Clueless-set?

In "talk back" one of your readers spoke about "Bicentennial Man" being
bogged down by budget meltdowns, well it's a "go" again and you've
correctly pointed out the shoot date as Feb '99, Disney is high on
making this their holiday release for 1999 so they will do all they can to
make Williams the king of X'mas this year as he was last year with
"Patch Adams." For those who do not know about this one, it's a
filmization of the Isaac Asimov novel of the same title, about a robot
who wants to become a human...sometime ago, they contemplated changing
the title into "Andrew Martin," the name of the robot who goes through a
200 year quest to become mortal (did I just give the ending away with
that? hmmmm).

"Dinosaurs" had some interesting footage to show Disney Home Video
brasses last year, and the concensus was that it is EVEN MORE
interesting than "Toy Story 2," Also read somewhere that D.B. Sweeney is one of the
featured
voices in this one.

The Robin Willams flick sounds cool. Dinosaur should be interesting. Patch Adams is doing so well because of word of mouth. Not all of Robin's movies are hits, remember Fathers Day?

    Azimov

Just a minor technical correction: Bicentennial Man was a novella. *If* it was expanded to novel length, then it was done so by someone other than Azimov. One more note: I am a huge fan of both Azimov and Robin Williams, but I just don't see Williams in the role, and it concerns me that its a Disney flick.

Mea culpa! How embarassing to mispell the Good Doctor's name, especially in a post correcting another's error.

Disney is just a rip-off company that is trying to cash in on the
works of the Greatest Science & Science Fiction writer of all times! If Disney really cared about filming a real movie based on the works of Isaac Asimov they can film Harlan Ellison's script for I Robot. Isaac Asimov was the most prolific writer of this century and should be on a Stamp
not a victim of another Disney hack.
