Some cool pre-production art from HEAVY METAL 2

Well wouldn't we all like to wake up with a copy of this movie under our Christmas trees. I've been dying to see some actual animation from this film because the pre-production work has been gorgeous... but at the same time I very much realize that there is just about no way on earth to animate that cool of looking detailed painted characters. Is there? Well... here's hoping...

Sir Moggy here from Stay Tooned at http://www.staytooned.com with a report on the sequel to the 1981 cult classic, "Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.²" I have for you some production art of the various characters in the story by Kevin B. Eastman. By the way, the official date of release is August 20th, 1999.

The first image is of Julie Strain (Penthouse Pet) - the main character of the film and is referred to as F.A.K.K.

The second image is of Lord Tyler. He's the evil character in the story that kidnapps Julie's sister.

The third image is of Germain St. Germain, the science officer under Lord Tyler.

The fourth image is of one of the Shadow Warriors - a team of warriors under the power of Lord Tyler.

Hope you enjoyed these pieces of eye candy. That's it for now, this is Sir Moggy saying, Cheers!

    This art is by Bisley

    by John McLame

THese look great! If you want to see a really cool book by the artist, Simon Bisley, check out DC's BATMAN-JUDGE DREDD which came out about 6 years ago. I actually went to Kevin Eastman's gallery when the book came out, & he had all the original pages on display! If they wanted to simulate the look of Bisley's painting style in the movie, they could map his painted textures onto 3D animated characters. Hmmm.

    Bisley's work

    by Palle

A bit slow on this one Harry. The FAKK2 book, stuffed wuth concept paintings and sketches by Bisley and short story descriptions by Kevin Eastman, hit the shelves several months ago. Great artwork but the story seems a little vauge though, it's based on the comic collection Melting Pot, by Bisley and Eastman.

    European, love it

    by Teleute

First off, Merry Christmas, everybody! I love the pictures. The picture of Julie is sexist as hell, but it's still cool. I love the biomechanical implants on evryones arms. The Shadow Warriors look especailly menacing. A bit derivative, but still creepy. The movie looks pretty fun, and very european. I think this will be a pretty big event for animation.

    Music

    by Dementia

Damn, now I'm getting excited about this project. With the music being such a major part of the first film, I wonder what the soundtrack will be like.

Dude! Lobo is gonna be PISSED!!

    by malochio

So as I'm looking at these pics, I think to myself has anyone told Simon Bisley he's getting ripped off? They better watch out, Lobo may have to rip these bastaches balls off!

    OOOPS!

    by malochio

OK,OK, my bad! The work is by Simon B. So it's late and I'm a little slow. But Lobo will still wipe his ass with these characters!

    Ick, Lobo

    by HeroZero

Ah, Lobo...the very first white trash anthem comic book hero. Grand daddy of other one dimensional characters like Spawn and Savage Dragon, along with most of the Image family. Anyhow, from what I'm heard, F.A.K.K. 2 is less of a "Heavy Metal 2" and more a feature produced by Heavy Metal Magazine. The character designs are cool looking, but yes, a bit derivative. See: Fire and Ice. This movie does definitely not need CGI of any sort, whether it's texture mapping or and 3D model bullshit. As with the detail thing, ever seen Akira?

    this Movie will ROCK!!!

    by mckracken

YES!! Its about damn time they did a sequel, but unfortunatly, many people like myself will be expecting that green orb to come roaring back and the flying bird/dragon and the chick from the first movie. As for detail, yeah they could do it if they REALLY wanted to...however MOST animated films(excluding Akira) REALLY water down the detail level into a cartoony look (see Spawn). Which isnt "bad" art, its just not Bisley art...Cam Kennedy's art (from Judge Dredd) would be easy to adapt for animation... :) I'm stoked, now I gotta hunt down "Melting Pot" hehehe....

Heavy Metal 2 - PC Game

    by Dizzy

I can not wait for this movie to hit the big screen! The art of Bisley and the breasts of Julie Strain! What more could you ask for? Kevin Eastman is a GoD for bringing all this talent together. Oh yeah, I also saw on http://www.ritual.com that they are making a 3D action game for the PC. That's the company that made the hit game SiN, so it should be freakin awesome! I can't wait for both of 'em!!

Harry's just not paying attention anymore

    by Jerk_Sisko

I don't know if Harrys is aware, but F.A.K.K.2 is c movie version of a stories that have been going on in the Heavy Hetal comic for a while. These are obviously Simon Bisley's work, and judging by the date on the first one (1996) odds are theis is just ancient stuff from some F.A.K.K.2 trading card set or art from in the comic. wasn't the giant "BIZ 96" kind of a giveaway?
