Baron Karza takes a further gander at PITCH BLACK
Harry here with a wee little agent in the microverse named Baron Karza, and he's just about to take us on a journey into the world of PITCH BLACK, yeah, that project from yesterday with the groovy Wayne Barlowe looking imagery. I received one email from a person that really felt it blew, but Baron Karza is a more well known (to me) spy than this other fella, but take that into account. Here we go...
BARON
KARZA speaking up from between your own molecules,
You want info on Pitch Black? Well, you've got a lot already. The PR agent
who zipped you the picture of the aliens and the synopsis has done a damn
detailed job.
How is the script? It's pretty good. Not great. Not bad. It will all be
in
the execution. For its concept, this is basically Twelve Little Indians in
space--marooned space ship passengers land on an alien planet, and die
one-by-
one. Is Twohy spectacular at characterization? He's okay. Is the dialogue
good? Sure. Is the plotting original? Let's just say this one is formulaic
enough to make Joe Hallenback erupt with bitter vitriol. But then he won't
be
expecting much.
Certainly ALIEN was like this twenty years ago--"Jaws in space" was the
pitch,
and it was essentially a slasher pic with a cool alien, but Ridley Scott
managed to direct it into classic status. Will Twohy do that with this?
Seems doubtful. But on the other hand, I doubt it will totally and
completely
suck. It seems this one has potential to be a very fun popcorn sci-fi
thriller, good for a few hallmark moments, but otherwise pretty familiar.
This one's essentially ALIEN with a more creatures, on a planet's surface.
Oh, and those aliens use "echo-location" as their sight, and they have POV
shots that are ripped right out of PREDATOR. Yawn.
Anyway, here's hoping Twohy figures out how to inject this thing with lots
of
adrenaline to make it a rip-snorting good time. There's enough in the script
to raise an eyebrow, but it's nothing to celebrate.
That's all the news fit to print from the Microverse.

After yesterdays bit on this flick
it sounds like total rehash cliche. A stowaway teen? Gee I've never seen that before. That was the nail in the coffin. Good thing I'm a sucker for eyecandy. Lets wait and see how the f/x work. -
First I'd like to say that posting that little blurb from Baron Karza didn't add anything to what was already posted yesterday. I could have done that myself and I don't know shit about the project. However, seeing the name Baron Karza brings a big ole fat smile to my face. You see I'm now thirty years old and I work in a creative environment where most of the kids I work with weren't around when Star Wars was in the theater in '77. That was making me feel real old. We all went to see the trailor last week which sparked a discussion about SW figures which led me to talking about Micronauts (the toys and the incredible comic book). They had never heard of either which was sad. In particular was the Baron Karza figure which I still have complete with centaur. He was one of the most complex figures I feel was ever created. He was held together with strong ass magnets and had a chest rocket and fist that could really put your eye out. The comic book was a classic in science fiction and the first issue, which I have, is one of my favorite comics of all time. Is there anyone out there that knows what I'm talking about. Please respond before I start counting the gray hairs on my head...sigh thanx for that memory...

According to Talk Back yesterday, this film was "made in Australia earlier this year"... now I suppose the dude/dudette could have been wrong... however, why post more "news" on this film without even mentioning the fact that it may be in post? After asking people for more info. on this film, did you even read the Talk Back? Sigh. Frankly, this news wasn't even very exciting yesterday.

Just so you don't feel all alone,
I'm 25 and I too remember micronauts. Although I don't really remember the names, I thought the figures were cool. I had a few of them (don't know what happened to them) and several issues of the comic which was really well done. I probably still have those. -
I remember the micronauts. Michael Golden was the artist for the first 12 issues and they were fantastic. After Golden left Howard Chaykin did some pretty awful artwork (I didn't think he could do bad work!) - BTW whatever happened to the American Flagg movie - but it could have been Milgrom's inks.
I have a box of micronaut toys at my parents. I'm going to have to look through them next weekend. -
Next to the ORIGINAL Star Wars figures Micronauts was my favorite line of toys when growing up. I wish I still had those like I do my SW figures! Speaking of Star Wars figures. Whats up with the freakin Power of the Steroid figures. You ever notice how now days they gotta make the dolls all buff like they been juiced up with 'roids? A couple of my favorites:No Neck Han Solo with action syringe. Arnold Shwarzenegger in Stormtrooper disguise and Leg Press Leia with
aerobic step. -
Thanks for the memories! I'm 27 and remember the 'Nauts clearly!
Bug with his "Tkk" punctuating every sentence...
Marionette with her... nevermind.
Commander such & such in blue.
The little R2-D2 style robot with extra long arms...
Extra cool plot line stuff like Karza's "body banks" where he stored vast quantities of parts for his dog soldiers...
Very cool... There should be a revival... -
Wow, Micronauts...I'm 30 and I remember having quite a collection of those toys. However, it was the comics that kept me interested. Michael Golden was a god to me. Back in the era when Marvel was making an art out of creating product-tie-in comics that ended up outlasting the toys (anyone remember ROM: Spaceknight?)
Y'know, Micronauts would be a kick-ass movie project - I can imagine the pitch now: "Star Wars meets Small Soldiers meets Innerspace..." -
I am glad that I am not the only one out there that loved the Micronauts. I found a fat website that is dedicated to the Nauts http://www.concentric.net/~elarse1/micront.html They not only cover the toys but have breakdowns of each of the comics with a picture from each cover. Now, Harry, I think it's time you got into this because the story of the first twelve issues of Micronauts was definitely coooooool as shit. This was right around Star Wars time and I'm tellin' you there is a plot so rich that maybe a movie can be made. Jack Frost proves anything can happen. Help us Harry and thanks for everyones feedback. ps. check out that site. ITS FAT...

Hell, Im 23 and one of my favorite toys as a kid was this glow in the dark hover track type thing from the micronauts. You put one of the lil guys in this capsule, pop him in the tube track you put together and the guy would zoom 'round the room - Damn I wish I still had that thing. Anyone know what the heck Im talkin bout? or was I the only one with the psychadelic glow in the dark Micronauts hover track thing-a-ma-bob?

Alien is one of those great movies that inspire a host of cheasy knockoffs like: Creature (Warning: this film contains scenes of graphic stupidity and has been known to cause vomiting in laboratory animals) or the over rated but still quite stinky Species. Will Pitch Black be yet another clone?
