First time
emailer here. Anyway, I checked out Psycho tonight at my girlfriends
theater where they got the movie in early. They usually get them on Thursday.
Anyway, I liked it quite alot.
The dialogue
is almost identical to the original with a few exceptions, as are the actual
shots. A few of the most notable exceptions; During the "shower murder"
montage of shots, there are a couple of added cuts of storm clouds and
the killer's eye, really close up. When Anne Heche falls over the edge of
the tub, theres a long full shot of her posterior, a shot Hitch wanted to
use in the original, but knew would never get by the censors. And the eye
shot is uncut this time, unlike the original which cut to the shower head.
During the
second murder of William H. Macy, once again some added shots of storm
clouds and other strange images are cut in with the murder sequence. A little more
violent this time, too with some nasty slashes to the face. Finally, the
end scene where the mother is revealed is a little more sinister with
Juliane Moore getting a good kick to the head in while Viggo holds Mr.
Bates(Vince Vaughn).
Otherwise except
for some dialogue and minor changes, it was mostly identical.
I liked it quite alot but thought that Vince Vaughn's interpretation
of Norman Bates was a bit more sinister and not as "child-like
innocent" like Anthony Perkins' perfomance. Also in the end credits
there is a thanks to John Woo for the use of his Kitchen Knife.
Alrighty, and now we have the
second reviewer codenamed... Keorps...
I just wanted
to report that a friend of mine who manages a theatre in my area called
me and invited me to a private screening of the Gus Van Sant remake of
PSYCHO. Needless to say I was excited, thinking that I may be one of the
few who sees it before even the media.
Okay, here
is the deal Harry.......Its awesome! I know you might be saying, "Hey, how
can you say that? This is blasphemy!!!!! Truthfully, I have seen the original
maybe three or four times and loved it each and everytime. But this is some good
work. Vince Vaugn, although not eerie Anthony Perkins, was terrific.
Anne Heche was okay, WIlliam H. Macy was cool, Julianne Moore was just
right (although she IS NOT a lesbian in this movie, they say she is, but there
is no proof!!!! Ahhhh!!!!) But the one who stands out (for some odd reason) was
Viggo Mortesan's performance. It was, shall I say, perfect.
The reason
I had to contact you was I had to tell someone of the weird twist Van Sant put
in this film....*****SPOILER****** While Mr. Bates is looking through the
peephole watching Marion undress, he, um, well, explores his own body shall
we say. He plays with it!!!!! Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ******END OS SPOILER******I
thought that was unnecessary but hey, Van Sant is a weirdo.
Just wanted
to say your site is great (butt kissin) and if you can use this, call me Keorps.
