Sundance's Screening Process - Early buzz on...

Published at:  Nov 15, 1998 12:50:05 AM CST

Even now down dark corridors that lead to even darker rooms, the beginnings and middles and endings of the SUNDANCE screening process is beginning. Trying to narrow down what 'lucky' films get chosen for this years competitions and the other various areas. Having been a judge now at two film festivals, let me tell you folks... this is not an easy process. The films come fast and furious, usually one on top of another. It's a fairly brutal process, judging sci fi against coming of age stories... mysteries to avant garde.... romances to psychotic comedies... and all of it against the dramas. But the buzz that comes out of the Festival itself... well sometimes, for the lucky few that somehow play their cards right... well they pick up distribution, they have a year long buzz that carries them throughout the year.

Well I have the first title that I'm hearing about... The first film to get a little buzz going out of the super secret process. It's called TWIN FALLS IDAHO. Yeah... I know... but listen, you never can tell from the titles. Apparently it's a hypnotic drama about Siamese twins... and it looks like it's an amazing film. I hope to hear more on this film, and the others that are being looked at. So keep your ears to the ground folks, let's give those headed to Park City... something to hope by.

I'm gonna be real upset if "Mothman" doesn't get to roll at Sundance, and that's all I have to say.

    Twin Falls, Idaho

No its not a dumb title, but a medium size town in southern Idaho (which should be renamed northern Utah). Don't try to put to much meaning into it.

    Twin Falls

Not sure if it's a real town or not, but Twin Falls, Idaho is the subject of the song "Twin Falls" by Built to Spill. It's also covered on Ben Folds Five's "Naked Baby Photos" album. Any word as to whether BTS will be involved in the soundtrack?
