Seann William Scott on new film by GIRL NEXT DOOR director... real porn this time?

Published at:  Sep 09, 2006 6:56:21 AM CDT

Greetings AICN, MiraJeff here with a bit of Seann William Scott news. JoBlo recently reported he's been attached to Big Brothers, the new comedy from The Girl Next Door director Luke Greenfield, but they bungled a lot of the details, and having worked for Greenfield and seen the project come a long way from when it was originally titled Big Brother and written by W. Blake Herron, I thought I'd clear some things up since I was promised the initial scoop once things became official.

The script is credited to budding screenwriter Tim Dowling who has really hit his stride as of late. He's the writer behind Outsourced and the upcoming Born To Rock. The story follows two beer salesman who have incredibly fun lives until an accident lands them in hot water with the law. As part of their community service sentence, they enlist in the Big Brothers program where they're promptly paired up with two kids. One is a socially awkward nerd who indulges in fantasy role-playing games, while the other is an older black teenager who has a problem with authority. It is believed that Scott will be paired with the latter.

The script is hilarious (and I'm not just saying that), especially for a PG-13 movie that deals with kids, and New Regency is excited about the project, as they should be. Greenfield has been laying low since the success of The Girl Next Door, taking time to fine-tune the story, and it seems the time has come to get the ball rolling. Production is slated to begin in January. In the meantime Scott is filming Gary the Tennis Coach for director Danny Leiner, and can next be seen in Southland Tales (hopefully January) and Mr. Woodcock (March). I have no idea who Greenfield is looking at for the other lead, but having read the script, I can tell you Owen Wilson, Ryan Reynolds, or Paul Rudd would knock this thing out the park and make a formidable duo with Scott. I'm telling you, the magic is there on the page, all that's needed is the right cast and this thing could be a Wedding Crashers-sized hit. I think a lot of that depends on the casting of the kids, so we'll see. 'Til then, this is MiraJeff signing off...

Outsourced, Born To Rock & Gary The Tennis Coach??

Are you for real? I promise you already, these are all names of movies that will utterly blow. And while I'm at it, how in the hell does Seann William Scott have even half the "career" that he does, I'm convinced he made a Faustian deal somewhere along the way. Frankly I feel an idiot for even having clicked on this story link in the first place (but what can I say, I ended up surprisingly loving "The Girl Next Door", so that's what grabbed me).

    The Rundown is good

But that's more The Rock and some good directing than anything else, I think.

I enjoyed The Girl Next Door a lot. And Scott has a natural ability to at least be enjoyable in whatever crap he may be in. I can go for Reynolds or even Rudd but no more Wilson for quite a while.

"Greenfield has been laying low since the success of The Girl Next Door"

Is a $14 million box office a success?

Um, thanks for the info on your new project Mr. Greenfield...I wish it much success.
