    What a feeling!

    by dan s

I really hope Lucas announces that he will be filming the next two prequels here at fox studios. I live 10 minutes away from them and the idea that such coolness would be taking place near me gives me goose bumps. I'll hopefully be attending the press conference tomorow and I'll let ya'll know what happens. The opportunity to be in the presence of THE MAN is too good to pass up.
Im off to get some sleep. I have to get up early :)
    Wish me luck.

I CANT WAIT FOR EPISODE 1 BUT WHAT IF IT SUCKS

    by scott miller

I am happy that George Lucas is already scouting for Episode 2, But what if Episode 1 is all hype and not a huge hit like Godzilla was. This Episode 1 better be really good or alot of people will be disaponted, If it is bad and still a hit people might not want an episode 2

    Talk Back Menaces

    by geof

Negative, negative, negative. Even if THE PHANTOM MENACE is less than great, going back into that whole universe is what it is all about. I would watch two hours of a maintanance crew fixing the Millinium Falcon. Some people seem to dislike RETURN OF THE JEDI quite a bit. That didnt stop over 300 million in grosses and the development of a Prequel trilogy. I have yet to see a GREAT Star Trek film, and yet they are on #9 and counting. Godzilla was a huge disappointment and yet they are making a sequel. So plans for Episode 2 are not crazy. Even if THE PHANTOM MENACE 'flopped' and only grossed 150 million (does anyone actually beleive it will do less?) It still has overseas and the biggest product tie in in film history to rake in extra money. If there ever was a sure thing, Episode 1 is it. By the way, Fincher would be great to direct Ep 2, if Spielberg is unavailable of course.

    5-21-99, see you in line.

    Directors, directors, directors...

    by mr. pink

Steven Spielberg probably wouldn't want to direct any of the movies anyway. That's not really his style. Fincher did an awesome job with both Seven and The Game, but I'm a little iffy about whether or not he could do a good Star Wars flick. If Bryan Singer does a good job with X-Men, I think he should do Episode 3 and I'm pretty sure he'll kick ass with X-Men. Is there any doubt? David Lynch, as good a director as he is, I believe would take the film too far, not on his level. Well, let's just hope whoever does it does a good job, huh?

    LUC BESSON, LUC BESSON!

    by ben

Get lives, people. Michael Bay???? It's gotta be LUC BESSON! He's perfect! If ANYONE knows Lucas's email send him a note saying LUC BESSON about 300 hundred times and maybe he'll get the hint. If ANYONE could honestly say the editing and construction of Fifth Element wasn't cooler than the Star Wars movies, go ahead and say why. I don't see Fincher (what the hell is with him, anyway) creating awesome worlds, just dark dreary ones. Blah. From now on I will talk balk to every Star Wars news report with a hearty recommendation for LUC BESSON! YAHOO!!! (dot com)
(But please, no Chris Tucker as Young Lando)

That JAMES CAMERON rumor. I mean forget about TITANIC; think TERMINATOR 1 & 2, THE ABYSS, and definitely ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS.

    KICK ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Reply to Geof

    by weasel

Geof, I'm one of those people who absolutely loathed Return of the Jedi. And for good reason, too. Sure, it had a few stellar moments, but it degenerated into spineless feel-good pap that has me worried about the quality of the much anticipated Episode 1. No, my friend, it's not about merely visiting Lucas' universe again, it's about partaking (hopefully) of an epic narrative that tells the story of the death of a just Republic, the fall of its loyal defenders and the dark Empire that arose from its ruins.
Lucas has a chance to give us something truly magnificent here and I, for one, will be sorely disappointed if his idea of a prequel turns out to be a lot of loud noise, muddled storylines and funny-looking aliens - can't forget those toy franchises!
Geof, like so many moviegoers today, you seem to measure success in terms of pure box office. Sorry, but a bad movie is still a bad movie even if it rakes in a hundred billion dollars. Quality and a good, strong story are what really count here and I have my fingers crossed that Lucas doesn't let the fans down come next May. Dammit, George, please prove me wrong!!!

    And now back to Bruce

    by geof

Bruce, why such pessimism? Why not go into the new film expecting greatness instead of expecting failure and "hoping Lucas proves you wrong"? And refferring to your post that movies that make alot of money does not mean they are good is too easy to agree with. My post was in response to the guy that said they should not be so hasty in planning a sequel because the first may fail financially. Well I was proving that it cant fail financially. And if you go to Star Wars films expecting some deep brooding thoughts on life and conflict, thats fine. I am sure it will be there. As for me. Thats icing on the cake. Because I am going not to see who is whos father and who are siblings. I am going for the jump into hyperspace, the dogfights, the lightsaber duels, the wookie growls, the cool looking aliens, the laser blasts, and the next person who says "I got a bad feeling about this". Hey, I love the 'deep inner struggling yadda, yadda, yadda conflicts as much as the next guy. But thats not what made me see Star Wars ten times in a theater when I was a kid. You can fold your arms and scowl and whine about ewoks all you want to. Me, I am rewinding back to the speeder bikes and holding on to my arm rests!!! YEAAA!!!

Ben--are you neglecting your medication AGAIN??

    by frank rizzo

Say WHAT!? The Fifth Element was superior to any SW film?? Uh, maybe with regards to FX (I would hope so after 15 years), but for Chrissakes, the PLOT made NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. Can anyone explain what was going on during and after the cruise ship thing? Pure, undecipherable nonsense!!! I am not familiar with any of Luc what's-his-name's other work, maybe he did the best he could as a director and had no say in the script. No matter who directs, I hope Lucas writes or at least has an active involvement in the writing of the script. Maybe Luc would in fact be good at just being a director, deciding on camera angles and whatnot, I don't know--but plotwise the thought of a SW movie turning out like The Fifth Element is enough to give me feverish nightmares from here to May 21.....

    No Cameron please

    by jackvincennes

Perhaps I'm still just disgusted by Titanic, but do we really need an ego maniac like Cameron helming a Star Wars film. The way I feel is that no matter who's behind the camera, it will still be Lucas' baby. So why put an anal retentive director who insists on doing things his way, and has a weird hard on for Bill Paxton in charge of this film. I mean my god, what happens if he starts to rewrite the script. I deffinitly want Darabont to helm this thing. The fx will always be there, it's just a case of whether or not the director can tell a story and play nice with Lucas.

    Michael Bay/Star Wars

    by joe

Howabout David Lynch and Michael Bay doing one of the prequels TOGETHER? Sure, the movie would be a trainwreck, but can you imagine being on that set? Can you imagine Lynch and Bay, contractually obligated to work together, with a $120 million budget,on a Star Wars movie? Which one do you think would get along with Frank Oz better? Film historians would be writing books about it for decades.

Wasn't Lynch actually approached about directing either Empire or Jedi? I read years ago that he was offered Empire but chose to do the Elephant Man instead. I've also heard that it was not Empire, but Jedi that he was approached for. Does anyone know the real story behind all this? It would just be interesting to know.

    All you suck

    by pdpi

You guys talk about David Lynch, Spielberg, fincher, Bay, whoever the fuck? This has nothing to do with the REALNESS! I agree with Bruce about what constitutes a GOOD movie. I find myself very concerned that bufoons(like Geof) don't get it. Granted that adventures between characters is important but these movies were intended to be recognized for the inner-conflicts of the ones custodian of the bitter-sweet force VIA hyperspace, saber duels, blaster shots, Death Star trenches, and Bantha rides for that matter. These are the very things that Mr. Lucas has contributed as the essence of his story but in a subtle, less important way; these are the EVERY-DAY THINGS! They are meant to be like that to explain the story and paint a picture of the Star Wars Universe. They are the same little things that in our universe would be TRIVIAL( like what car i drive, what fast-food i eat) NOT VERY EXCITING. i Guess what i'm trying to say is that the story is deeper than all the FUN FOR THE EYE things and only One of you get that. Go ahead with your superficial DIRECTOR talk and your BIG BLOCKBUSTER talk. I say THANK THE MAKER(MR. LUCAS) LETS GIVE HIM A SHRED OF CREDIT AT LEAST. superficial superficial superficial, geez!

    REMEMBER THIS NAME

    by pdpi

I'm in the middle(actually late-beginning) of writing a STAR WARS novel about the SOVERIGN PROTECTORS and the birth of a NEW EMPIRE incorporating very exciting ideas and contributing many innovative technologies to the "universe". I've been keeping it under wraps but i just had to let it out. I assume all of you DIE HARD FANS( doesn't seem like any) on this site would appreciate this and I do estimate that it should be out whan the new movie debuts. Look For it! You'll Know BY Name

    Hey Mike!

    by geof

Calm down buddy. No need to get personal (calling me a buffon). I think we can agree to disagree and at least be civil. I never said the plot details were not important, but plot with no adventure is A ROOM WITH A VIEW and not STAR WARS. As a the now famous deleted poster said on STARWARS.COM. Plot does matter. But thats not necassarily what made me fall in love with the SW universe. It was the action and adventure, and there will be plenty of that in THE PHANTOM MENACE, cause that IS what STAR WARS is all about.
