BY the WB...But the CW has already proven a strange merger, by requesting additional seasons of the already tired and strained formula while passing on The (Excellent Piloted)Aquaman series aka Mercy Reef. Since the most downloaded video off iTunes for the Summer certainly wouldn't get ratings, especially a spin off of the 2nd highest viewed Sci-Fi Show on network television (Lost of course being first). Yet a washed out, cliched, redundant, boring Family drama that uses the same plot devices on each of it's emerging and aging Brood is going to just soak up Viewers? Yeah...great one there CW. Thank God Miles and Millar were smart enough to sign a 2 Season contract with you jerks or Smallville, the last vestige of such great shows as Buffy, Angel, Roswell etc. Face it people...even if you don't like S'ville, when it ends, an Era of SciFi/Fantasy/Horror on Mainstream TV (started by Buffy) ends with it.
Aug. 29, 2006, 9:44 a.m. CST
I'm not really sure what will need to be done to remove this show from the airwaves, but I'm pretty sure it's going to involve a stake through the heart and garlic in the mouth of at least one of the leads. Still, it somehow managed to become the WB's highest-rated show of all time, despite the fact that you don't know a single soul that watched it. So in that way, it's a little like "Two and a Half Men".
Aug. 29, 2006, 10 a.m. CST

7th Heaven's premiere date and ignore those wacky Canadian kids from Degrassi? Come on... When does that show return?
Aug. 29, 2006, 10:30 a.m. CST
by Mr. Profit
The show has ALWAYS been the #1 rated show on The WB. It wasn't Angel, it wasn't Buffy, not Smallville or Dawson's. 7th Fucking Heaven. So that's why it was picked up over Everwood. The ratings were higher and there is believe it or not, no other "Family" show on TV catering to that audience unless you watch Pax. Stop talking about Mercy Reef already. That shit looked mad gay. Who the fuck wanted to see a 5th rate DC comics character raped and turned into a fucking disgusting hybrid of Veronica Mars, Smallville and Summerland? Gimme a break. The CW would be better off playing episodes of Instant Star.

there's nothing to watch for another month. Dammit. guess I'll catch up on my reading. Cannot fucking believe Lost doesn't start till damn October. sigh. At least there's Vanished, which aside from the atrocious acting and dialogue, isn't too bad.

Aug. 29, 2006, 12:40 p.m. CST
Get ready, peoples. Set the TiVo up for that night. It starts out with "The Christmas Invasion" which is the first adventure of the 10th Doctor. The gems of the season are Episodes 3 ("School Reunion" with Anthony Stewart Head guest starring) and 4 (Moffat's "The Girl in the Fireplace")...not counting the Cybermen two-parter as well as the 2 part season finale that kicked major booty. But watch the clunkers and give SciFi the ratings they need to show Series3 at the same time they air in the U.K. in 2007!
Aug. 29, 2006, 12:42 p.m. CST
Moffat's 2 parter "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" from S1 *Doctor Who* beat out media/genre darling *BSG* to win a Hugo Award for scifi television. Also nominated were "Dalek" and "Father's Day", both of which were also among the best episodes of S1. I would've expected you to mention that *Serenity* beat *Batman Begins* for the movie award.

And Zach Braff is saying that this is scrubs last year because he wants to go make movies. Fuck that, garden state was ok but come on man, stick with the series that you owe your career to through to the end. I'm excited to check out Heroes and Jericho, aside from the usual returnees of VM, BSG and Lost...

is not that it's boring or that my wife chooses to watch it while I'm in the room but that this so called family show is a lie. This guy is supposed to be a minister and it's all about raising a family with good values and all that but they have the most rotten kids ever. Every week one of those kids is smoking pot, or vandalizing a gym, or getting pregnant or married at 18, or some other equally frightening thing. Those kids should have been taken away by DCFS a long time ago.
Aug. 29, 2006, 1:02 p.m. CST
That despite all the bad things that happen to these kids, they always end up ok in the end and [wretch] love can fix any problem... That show was so cheesy and heavyhanded it's hard to watch. I've seen a few episodes, but the worst I ever saw [This was like 8 years go, so gimme a break, I regret it enough as it is] was the one where the twins were born and everyone in the ER started singing the mary tyler moore theme song. I've never been so embarassed FOR a group of people in my entire life.

I'm still bitter as hell about AD, especially since we could be getting new episodes in a month if Hurwitz could have just swallowed his pride, but "How I Met Your Mother" is actually a very good show that improves as it goes on, and should not be included on your "War at Home-esque" list. Also, to the poster, saying Braff should stick with Scrubs, it will have been on for six years. This isn't like him abandoning it after two. The show probably would have ended anyway, or maybe gone on for one more, but six years is plenty, and the longer something goes on, the more quality is going to dip anyway. Studio 60, VM, Lost, The Wire, South Park, The Office, and King of the Hill are what I'll be awaiting.
Aug. 29, 2006, 2:15 p.m. CST
And even if it does I hope it's only a short hiatus, unlike Lost with it's insane 13-week break between episode 6 and the JJ Abrams directed episode 7.

this is the first time simpsons starts a new season before november in like 9yrs (i checked my dvds and season 8 is the first season where "treehouse of horror" is the first episode of the season) ..wow what happened? will Fox not air the baseball playoffs this year or something?
Aug. 29, 2006, 3:51 p.m. CST
It was WB's biggest show for years, but recently Gilmore Girls finally passed it. I'm just a tiny bit bummed about Braff saying Scrubs is over. Can't really blame him, NBC has completely pissed all over the show, and I'm surprised they brought it back for a sixth season. It's inevitable that it will end soon, they might as well make the whole season a rampup to a series finale. And yes, Lost starts with a Kate episode, but they have Locke, Desmond and Russeau(!!!) flashbacks in the first six, and it looks like a Penny Widmore episode and an Eko in the first few of tne spring clump. Pretty cool.

the Studio 60 Pilot is probably the best made hour of television I've ever seen.
Aug. 29, 2006, 6:11 p.m. CST
But I think that a show ending should be a mutual decision among creators and cast, not something forced by a single cast member who thinks he can be a movie star. I was kind of assuming it had only one or two more seasons in it anyway... It's just the principle behind WHY it's ending that irks me.
Aug. 29, 2006, 6:12 p.m. CST
Didn't hold a candle to even the west wing pilot or the alias pilot, or dare I say it, the lost pilot. Good overall, but some actors don't seem comfortable in the sorkin vibe yet, some situations feel pretty contrived, and I'm really worried about a show that's going to have to show bits of sketch comedy, regardless of whether it's supposed to be good, or look how bad it is. I hope it does well, but I don't see it going over that big, especially with Sorkin going straight to the angry rants.

If you haven't seen this show, go rent Season One and get busy. Every episode is a chapter, every season a novel. There is nothing like it on TV today. I wrote a lengthy article on it, which will hit our newspaper stands tomorrow morning. When they publish it on-line I'll link to it from here. (Un)fortunately, Stephen King beat me to the punch by delivering a love letter to the series in the current issue of EW (unless it was just released on-line).
