AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE: Two More Movie Reviews!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
Two more new and untested reviewers have just sent in their takes on the long-anticipated straight-to-DVD “Aqua Teen” movie. Still not a lot of plot detail here (perhaps because the movie doesn’t have much of a plot?).
First up is “Chris”:
Ahoy,
I also attended the Nielson run screening of Aqua Teen Hunger Force the Movie in Century City, and much like the last reviewer, not only was I not impressed, but I was sadly, sadly disappointed. Well not really, because I was prepared for a feature length bore because of the nature of the 11 minute cartoon, but still this was Sizzler salad bar bad. The chili I ate at the foodcourt beforehand was the highlight of the experience.
After the yada yada 85% complete riff, they rolled the film. The origin aspects were interesting in that your only previous clues were the opening and closing credits, but that is pretty much the extent of the positive points of the movie. Well, that and Time Traveling Lincoln had some moments.
This movie was flat joke after flat joke complete with lame wire-esque fight scenes, which I pray for the producers are incomplete. Just tired, tired humor. The thing that struck me is that it wasn't so much that a lot of the jokes failed as it was that there didn't seem to actually BE a lot of jokes. The secondary characters were overused; the Moonanites provided a couple of chuckles, the Robotic Ghost of Christmas past was best left in the excellent Danzig episode and the Plutonians grew as tiresome as they did in the series. Also, I was reminded of how much Dr. Strange is not missed from the series, although he did outshine some of the other garbage strewn about.
Basically I went into this knowing this probably wasn't the format that Aqua Teens would succeed in, but I had one beautiful hope: uncensored Carl. My greatest disappointment? Barely any Carl at all. Lame. Super lame.
I could futher beat a dead horse so I will bottom line it. The movie was boring, unfunny and I can't imagine it will be released to theaters, it isn't worth the printing costs. DVD? Maybe. Cartoon Network? Probably where it should debut. Second up is “D”:
hey, I saw the review that was from an untested source, and I thought
I'd confirm everything he said:
Awful. There are some fun ideas, but the execution of them is lousy.
I wasn't following the show before the screening, but I watched about
ten episodes online before heading in, and it definitely doesn't
stand up to the show.
Maybe its the extended format, because I'm not sure 70 minutes of
that show could EVER manage to hold an audience. And perhaps as a
point of contention, the show almost felt like it had storylines that
ended, as new one cropped up, almost making it like a few episodes
loosely connected.
But the first reviewer was right-- the silence of the crowd was
painful, especially in the last 30 minutes. My friend is obsessed
with the show, and fell asleep during the movie. Not a good sign.
I don't think you'll post this, but if you do, please don't use my
name. Thanks, keep up the good work.

This is depressing, I want a good athf review...
-
well, actually second, but the first didn't use his subject line to full advantage. so suck it, bitches.
-
Yeesh. Sounds like a waste of time AND money for all involved. In all seriousness, it sounds like a Saturday Night Live movie. Not Wayne's World or Bluse Brothers, but Superstar or It's Pat. Something that works well in short bursts, but just can't work at feature length.

Me not am gud typing perrsn.

"I was reminded of how much Dr. Strange is not missed"
by theycallhimflane
Except I don't think there ever was a "Dr. Strange."
-
Dr. Weird?
-
Somebody give that man a dollar!
-
is the Venture Bros.
God, that could be incredible. -
I knew none of the first reviews would be positive. These people obviously don't get ATHF.
-
Where is that show?
-
Me used to have same problem, until me start typing at desk (instead of just doing it as me walk).
-
On the other hand I didn't think the Family Guy movie was all that great...
-
I might be interested.
-
"Its not different at all, is it Steve!"
-
don't like the movie. Surprise!
-
HELL YES they should bring back Samurai Jack.
-
I want Genndy to finish what he started.
-
I'll wait until someone that knows what's goes on a Broodwich tells me what they thought before I get worried.
Of course this movie has little to no plot, of course it's stupid, and of course it's not gonna make a penny. Which is why I need to see it Frylock! And you would know that if you would read... the book that I wrote... on Hollywood Baby! It's all the rage. -
Bottom line: Most people don't like the series. So I'm not surprised to see some guys who don't watch the series say they don't like the movie. If I start to see reviews from actual ATHF fans who say the movies sucks, then I'll be concerned.
-
I mean straight to torrent.
-
I have made love to this...MACHINE.
-
to NOT think Dr. Weird is funny? "PUT THAT BACK!" *taco taco taco*
-
You can't take something that is funny in 11 minute doses and have it be funny for over an hour. Not to mention the fact that the last two seasons have essentially sucked.
-
Yet another thing I'll download cause it's not worth paying for. Woot.
-
exactly, until a real fan is dissapointed I am not the least bit worried, but again, Im not expecting Citizen Cain , the most it will be like the Familie Guye movie!
-
'cause Aku is dead. Making more SJ without Mako would be a crime against, well, the universe.
-
STAT!
-
I like that, Sam Rami's Car! It's even lower than straight-to-cable! Classic.
-
Someone should serve these "reviewers" the Broodwich!
-
"if you're so smart lets see what your ass knows about FLYING!"
-
Not from what I'm reading anyway. If the guy was salivating over the prospect of an uncensored Carl, that sounds like a fan of the show to me!
-
And all these negative reviews are pooping all over my high expectations. Sigh.
-
If a movie sucks, fine, but don't embellish it and lie and say someone fell asleep. That's retarded. Who the fuck falls asleep at a movie and what the fuck is their problem? I have no doubt the movie sucks, but I also have no doubt anyone who ever uses that line is full of shit.
-
Meeeeeean, yoo just shot yooself in da foot!!
-
The show sucks, so how can the movie possible be good? Eek the cat was funnier. Fuck Aqua Teen
-
My old college roommate fell asleep at a Pantera concert, so anything is possible.
-
Oh wait, no. I meant to say "I FELL ASLEEP AT A MOVIE!" It was the Muppets in Space movie. People really do fall asleep in movies, especially if they do things like work for a living and don't always get enough sleep.
-
I was working for my college newspapaer as a movie reviewer and needed to catch up on 4 movies, I saw Varisety Blues/ A Civil Action/Virus(I think that was the one with Donald Sutherland and Jamie Lee Curtis) and like one other one...i fell asleep during Virus and A Civial Action and mentioned that in my reviews...but looking back I think it had to do more with amount of alchol I was drinkg
-
Believe me people sleep in theaters. I can think of at least a half dozen times in only six months of working at Hoyts movie theater that I had to wake people up after the movie was over. Mostly it was old people but once it was a guy who was probably in his 30's. These people must have been by themselves because it would always just be them sleeping.
On that note, I have fallen asleep during a movie one time and one time only. That was Superman returns. It was probably the fact that it was the midnight showing rather than the fact that it was a 3 hr. snoozefest with 10 minutes of impressive action. Yeah, that's it... -
ATHF the series: Awesome. ATHF The Movie: Maybe not so much. Still going to have to see for myself. Love the series way too much (have all 4 seasons on dvd) not to.
-
I bad, insipid tv show spawns a bad, insipid movie. Who'd a thunk?
-
No surprise there. Humor like that can't be sustained for more than 10 minutes.
-
Carl is the greatest character on the show and he deserves his own series. Maybe a prequel where we see how a young Carl with a bright future became the biggest loser in NJ, 2nd only to Shake!!!! -
Is the episode of MST with Jack Frost on dvd? With the pig sled and what-not? I liked that one. ATHF is barely good enough for a tv show, much less film. I do like the episode where shake gets the big helmet that he keeps attaching accessories to. Two old fashioned cameras, a player piano, electronic drums. That one cracks me up every time I see it, which is like twice a week on cartoon network.
-
...but "Dr. Strange" guy should ask Pat if he can buy a clue. I had some reservations about the 70+ minute format for this show, but after watching my season 3 DVD all at one shot over the weekend, I really don't think there's any such thing as too much ATHF in one sitting. Hard to imagine the addition of Bruce Campbell to the mix might prove me wrong, but weirder shit has happened. "What knifey say?"
-
Forged in darkness from wheat harvested from Hell's Half Acre, baked by Beelzebub, slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid teat of a fanged cow. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal, which has maggots for blood.
Goddamnit, I'm so there.
