Ted Raimi looks badass! Check out this photo from MY NAME IS BRUCE!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a photo leaked from the production of the absolutely awesome sounding MY NAME IS BRUCE starring Bruce Campbell as... Bruce Campbell! The real life actor Bruce Campbell gets mistaken for his character, Ash, from the EVIL DEAD films, and is recruited to fight a real life monster.

Also in the cast is the man-god Ted Raimi, who plays a character called Wing, who is the care-taker of "Guan-di," the Chinese God of War, apparently Bruce's nemesis in the flick. Our scooper, Evil Cedar, says production just wrapped and it's in post! Can't wait! Check out Ted Raimi! He rocks!

Ted Raimi is Bruce Campbell is Ted Raimi. The ultimate Shemp (the real fans know). He's great as "that guy" yet no one knows his name to his face 'cept the geeks like us. I have yet to see this guy do any wrong. The project itself sounds tons better than "Screaming Brain" or even "Bubba Ho-tep." A point to this? No. Only givin' respect knuckles to one awesome dude. This reminds me of the one and only Xena-con held in New Orleans some years ago where Ted and Bruce were the two key-note speakers. Had only one day of which to choose to go... at the time I picked Bruce's day. And inadverdantly heckled him. Really wish I had been able to go for both days now that I'm able to look back at his stable of work. TR's the shit. Sorry for the ramble, fellow nerds. As the commercial says, "Hooray, beer!"

I may have a piece of stupid "Bruce" memorabilia

    by SynapseFilms

actually IN this movie. I bought, at a flea market, the shittiest looking varnished wood plaque of a picture of Bruce from ED2. Under the pic, inscribed in a piece of metal was "Bruce Campbell Evil Dead 2". Dumbest thing... ever... and I loved it. I know some folks who worked on this and they actually had me send the plaque to the set so they could put it up on a kid's wall in the movie (evidently, a character in the film is the "ultimate" Bruce Campbell fans and has loads of Bruce-crap lying aroound his room. So... wheee... look for my plaque when you watch the movie!

What a stupid idea for a movie...

    by GuyLombardo

Movies about movies or about characters playing themselves are just plain dumb. I can see why it would appeal to Campbell, his real life self having to cope with the fact that he will always be known as Ash to everyone who knows him, but this sounds horrible... and it will be - Why not make a movie where real life Bruce Campbell can't choose a good part to save his life. Man with Shocking Brain, Sky High and the list goes on...

It didn't seem that long ago that Bruce was talking about this being set and made in a small Oregon town. Did that change? I see production has wrapped before I had a chance to be in the movie. I didn't hear a peep about anything happening around here.

    by Doctor_Sin

They Call Me Bruce...They Still Call Me Bruce...Three Amigos...Galaxy Quest...This whole flavor of film is well played out. Bruce Campbell may not even be enough to save it - who knows....

  • Aug. 19, 2006, 3:40 p.m. CST

    Good God

    by GuyLombardo

Galaxy Quest, Bugs Life, Three Amigos all borrowed or should I say bastardized this concept from The Seven Samurai. And this Campbell dreck is not even close to following what those films did. This is one of those "What if William Shatner was on a plane that was in trouble and they handed him the controls because he played Captain Kirk." When actors play themselves, that's when things start to suck. And when has Bruce Campbell ever "saved: anything because he was in it?

  • Aug. 19, 2006, 4:33 p.m. CST

What about John Malkovich in 'Being John Malkovich'?

    by pokadoo

That was a good movie, where an actor played himself. And Bruce Campbell "Saved" Sky High from being just another bland kids movie. He's the only reason I went to see it. Oh, and 'William Shatner on a plane'! Yes!! It wouldn't be original, but it would probably be entertaining, just as 'My name is Bruce' promises to be.

I'll give you Malkovich, but countless other films back up my statement. And seriously doubt this script comes from a mind ther likes of Charlie Kaufman or will be directed by anyone close to Jonze. And just by bringing up Sky High, you have validated my point. I don't know how much that movie made off hand, but seeing as it came from Disney and did not warrent a sequel (and they will make a sequel to anything) I don't think Bruce did much saving with his 2min appearance... I lump him in with Jeff Bridges, I like them, but they are box office poison if featured prominently.

    Ripping-off 'The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse' B

    by workshed

...I LIKE IT..! They should make sure other cast members from ED trilogy are in it. Still, TLoGA did have David Warner and, imho, the man is a British movie legend in his own right. After all, he owned 'The Omen, scared the shit out of H.G.Wells in 'Time After Time', raped the f*ck out of 'Straw Dogs', kept a straight face through 'TRON' and, of course, played the ultimate 'Evil Genius' in Time Bandits. Why is he not more appreciated..?

  • Aug. 20, 2006, 1:03 p.m. CST

    ripping off Apocalypse?

    by JackLint

I don't see that at all. in TLOGA, the characters themselves come to life and harass the actors/writers that created them. Like if Ash came to life and kidnapped Bruce Campbell to force him to make Evil Dead 4. If anything, this is more like Fright Night, with Bruce Cambell playing the Roddy McDowall role. Except unlike that movie, I heard in this Bruce Cambell is very incompotent and always ends up making everything much worse. Cant' wait for it.

    Here we go again...

    by moto

... as AICN TBers start to speak of the brilliance of a D-List, truly terrible and overrated (in the eyes of fanboys only) actor. I guess there's some novelty in enjoying a B-Movie actor... no harm done. But it just gets old. He's terrible. If only he could get a good role... I think maybe there's potential. But thus far, terrible. Don't you think it is a bit curious that his good friend Sam Raimi, with all of his pull as a director and especially a producer, doesn't give him a good lead or supporting role to chew on? Hmmmm, I wonder why? Sure, we had the Evil Dead movies, but that was YEARS ago. Get over it. But hey, I like shitty movies and shitty actors at times too. Just sick of Bruce Campbell on AICN.
