Mr. Tumnus Is WANTED By The Director Of NIGHT WATCH!!

Hollywood Reporter says that James McAvoy (who was fantastic as Leto Atreides II in the CHILDREN OF DUNE miniseries, and was pretty awesome as Mr. Tumnus in THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE) will take the lead in a film adaptation of Mark Millar & J.G. Jones' comic WANTED.

"Wanted" is based on a comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones published by Top Cow. The story follows a put-upon young man who discovers that his long-lost father is an assassin. After his dad is murdered, the son is recruited into a covert organization of killers and trained to follow in his father's footsteps.

The film will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov, who helmed the NIGHT WATCH trilogy in Russia.

Less promisingly, WANTED will be scripted by Derek Hass and Michael Brandt of 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS. Of course, they also wrote the forthcoming 3:10 TO YUMA, so maybe there's at least the possibility of hope.

    Daywatch

    by goatboy

Where is Daywatch? Loved Nightwatch but don't seem able to find the sequel anywhere. And is it right that instead of another 2, the director was pressured into condensing them into just 1? Oh, and the Narnia moved really wasn't very good.

What happened to the 3rd part of the Nightwatch trilogy

    by beastie

Just wondering. Kinda liked the first. Still haven't seen the second, but I can't start a series without finishing it.

I hope he can make this story as gritty, and just simply as good, as Night Watch.

    got a question

    by everett robert

got a question for ya'll. I think it was Mark Millar had a comic book series back in the early 90s/heyday of Image. It was a strong X-Men ripoff, the only real significant thing I remember was thier base was under a gasstation and their rouge/anti-hero type, the Wloverine or Gambit of the group was a did with 4 arms, some metallic...anyone know what I"m talking about? oh and Narnia was awesome, no it wasn't LOTR but it wasn't meant to be, LOTR was a grand epic/new mythology, Narnia is a fairy tale/allegory BIG differance, but it was excellently made, well acted, and I loved that sequence in the final battle where they shoot the fire arrow and it explodes into a phoenix and it sweeps down on the witch's army. but that's just my opinon

    Nightwatch needed some serious work

    by oisin5199

had the makings of something interesting but just got too weird for the sake of being weird. I thought that if a good fantasy director like Del Toro or somebody could make a good American version, you know, where the plot actually makes sense, then you'd have an awesome flick. As it was, it was interesting but only half-baked.

    by datascream

I've seen this comic before. The main character looks like Eminem...I'm gonna get flamed for saying this but....why not get him? I've even hears about Eminem being attached to this movie in the past. I just find it kinda odd.

    by team america

Seriously, I can't read anything by Millar anymore, having read "Wanted". It's a disgusting mess. I wish the absolute worst for everyone involved in the making of this film.

    *shrugs* I loved Nightwatch

    by goatboy

Didn't know anything about it, a friend played me the DVD and I was hooked. I thought the whole "Gloom" thing was excellent, loved the idea of the flick and thought it tried to do something different. But then I think Near Dark is the best vampire flick ever made, so whaddoiknow?

How can this possibly be any good?

    by mattcg

"Wanted" is a piece of shit with the worst ending of all time. Mark Millar needs some killing and quickly. He's poisoning Marvel with his incessant desire to turn every hero into a fucking sociopathic thug. Fuck him.

If Disney had any balls they'd hire the director of Night Watch to direct the next Narnia film.

    This has potential

    by rainingwaffles

I liked the comic; not the best ever, but the scope of the story seems to be about right for a two hour movie (unlike the Watchmen, which deserves a mini-series). There are a ton of superpowered villains in this movie and to do it faithfully they'd need a huge budget. Also, it's violent as all get-out with tons of frivolous joy-killing. It'll be interesting to see what drops out.

Brandt & Hass tanked on 3:10 TO YUMA and were replaced

    by doc_mccoy

Get your facts straight, Merrick. They did a horrible job and were replaced quickly with Stu Beattie (COLLLATERAL). And the NIGHT WATCH guy? I hope this movie isn't as schizophrenic and unintelligible as his Russian flicks.

You people are nucking futs. Wanted was a great series

    by chastain-86

It's no Watchmen, I'll grant you, but it's still a passably great series with some great moments. C'mon, watching the supervillains kill the Adam West / Burt Ward - like duo, who can't remember who they are thanks to the mindwipe... that's good stuff. To me, it read a little like what I'd imagine a comic series by Chuck Palahniuk would be. I love it, and I recommend it to as many comic readers as I can.

    my mistake for my question

    by everett robert

I've been doing some research and found out that it wasn't Millar that wrote for the Image title I was thinking, it was Silvestri the TOP COW Publishing (that published Wanted I believer) is what made me think it was Millar anyways the title I was thinking was Cyberforce...gawd what an uninspiring name to a lame comic book *laugh* I sure thought it was awesome in 93-94 though...

    by obscura

you've seen the original russian edit (without the hyped up subtitle effects.) the western edit dropped a good 30 minutes out of the film, and pretty much ruined the whole thing. we're talking a Superman 4 style hack job. IF you have seen the original edit and still hate it, fair enough.

    by oisin5199

I don't think I could have taken another half hour. I still say Nightwatch would be a decent movie (or a tv movie) if it was re-adapted for American audiences.

WANTED is like a comic that Palahniuk would write?

    by beamish13

we're talking about the guy that wrote DIARY, right? The astonishingly two-dimensional POS with a sex scene in the middle that involves two people levitating under a chandelier? The guy whose novel FIGHT CLUB was improved in every conceivable way when it became a film, like the piss-poor ennding? THAT Chuck Palahniuk?
