It's The NAPOLEON DYNAMITE Guy -VS- Billy Bob & Big Mike Duncan In The SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS Trailer!!

Published at:  Aug 09, 2006 8:28:54 AM CDT

href="mailto:merrick@aintitcool.com">Merrick here...

Apple has posted the trailer for Todd Phillips' SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS.

The movie stars John Heder (aka Napoleon Dynamite) as a dork who enrolls on a "confidence building class". ARMAGEDDON's Billy Bob Thornton and Michael Clarke Duncan reunite for this; Ben Stiller also makes a brief appearance in the film -- in a small part that's actually being billed in the trailer.

This movie looks like it's all over the place to me, although the mace in the elevator gag looks pretty damn funny. Heder to be running his Napoleon shtick again..which is fine, I guess. I mean, that's what Pee Wee did, no? (Is that what Pee Wee called it? "Running his shtick?" Ahem...)

SCHOOL FOR SCOUNDRELS opens September 29th. You can read an early test screening review of the film HERE.

I don't know, the trailer was pretty funny to me.

I fear though that Jon Heder is qucikly becoming stuck in a one-gag role. For his next film he should be a pure evil villain with not even a hint of comedic overtones.

    Michael Clarke Duncan

    by derlanghaarige

I always love to see him, but it is a shame that Hollywood doesn't offer better roles to someone who looks like him! He will be for the rest of his life play in comedies and action-/Fantasyflicks (And sometimes give his voice to some cartoons.). C'mon, Hollywood, don't tell me that The Green Mile was the only serious script about a huge, black man! Well, but at least he's still working...

...or are there a bunch of comedies with relatively recognizable talent in them just coming out of nowhere all of a sudden? I mean, I remember a time when a movie idea couldn't get pitched without us hearing about it (usually via Elston Gunn). Now we're getting blindsided by a Billy Bob comedy? How long did it take them to make this?

And some people consider him a god, a living legend, a national treasure. to each his own I guess. Besides, I think people give Hader shit cause he's Mormon. funny? He's awful. "Oh I'm a Ben Stiller character, I'm shy and kind of geeky, but don't let my cocky arrogence that oozes through all of my performances fool you, I'm a good guy and you should root for me in this story." or "I'M IN YOUR FACE WITH A CRAZY VOICE OR ACCENT, BUT DON'T LET MY SIZE AND STATURE FOOL YOU. I'M DANGEROUS!!!" and it really looks like a cameo too so why oh why would you advertise that. I'll still go see it.

I saw Napoleon Dynamite and it was the lamest movie I've seen since Cosby's Leonard Part 6 (tho Cosby at least got a few chuckles). Heder is nothing more than an inbred Mormon. Everytime you see a movie with Heder in it, you are encouraging the Mormons to think they are normal. Stop feeding the cult!

Or just lost all taste? This will be the generic 9g-13 garbage we've been seeing for several years now. Fuck these type of movies Billy Bob is great and I want more Bad Santa movies not shit like this. Also Heder or whatever his name is, he is not funny or talented in anyway he's probably one of the most annoying actors out there. It's sad because a bunch of tweens saw Napolean Dynamite 80 times means we have to be put through more of his horrible acting talents. Sarah Silverman won't be able to save this movie either, which is sad because I love her.

    Also starring Ben Stiller...

    by bungion boy

I saw this movie several months ago. It was pretty bad. The funniest thing in it, (besides Todd Louiso), was the Ben Stiller CAMEO at the end of the film. It was a CAMEO! Much like Will Ferrell in Wedding Crashers. This trailer screams to me that they felt the couldn't depend on the star power of Heder and Thornton and so felt they had to advertise Ben Stiller for his 6 minutes of screentime. How sad. Don't see this movie. Check out my original review for details why.

*How* many posts are there already, and no-one has mentioned that this is an unoriginal retread of a minor but charming British film? Alastair Sim anyone? Robert Hamer? Mean anything? Are Anger Management and Rushmore really as far back as the collective film knowledge here goes?

    NAPOLEON DYNAMITE was great.

    by peterpanic

And Jon Heder was great as Napoleon Dynamite.

Jon Heder has the potential to do more good work.
In many respects it IS a one-note performance. But it suits the role.
    The movie is NOT derivative.
NOR is it stupid or boring.
It's reasonable to object that its style can be alienating or that it alienates you specifically, but many people say the same of BETTER OF DEAD or AIRPLANE!
The movie is not a work of genius. But it's an interesting, funny movie with an idiosyncratic style.
I wish there were more like it.

    NAPOLEON DYNAMITE was not great.

    by askanison2001

It was made during the time that the whole "uncool as cool" thing was getting really popular. I saw it again the other day and can seriously see the huge gimmick in this film. Maybe it's just the way it was marketed that made me dislike it. The way it played on the one HUGE gimmick and that was it. and the fact that dumb frat boys loved the film and would quote it many times over...and over...and over...and over...and over. So maybe that had something to do with it.

But I doubt it. I seriously think it's because the movie isn't all that hilarious and is obviously and blatantly doing the "nerdy and geeky and incredibly idiotic is cool" schtick that I barely have time for.

oh and maybe jon heder can act- he just needs to do something to show it.

    eh, ooooooor maybe he can't.

    peace.

And Napoleon Dynamite is so far from a great movie, I dont even want to go there. Yes it was clean and there was some funny (Smile worthy, not Laugh out loud funny) moments in Napoleon Dynamite. I dont hate that film, in fact I would reccomend it to people to at least see once. John Heder seems to be capitalizing off it, which is cool for him, seriously that's good. But I certainly am not going to be seeing this movie, and Billy Bobs Tupe' really fucking scares me.
