An AICNer INSIDE(r) wins the Jury Prize at L.A.'s DancesWithFilms!

Published at:  Jul 28, 2006 2:56:19 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here - with a bit of good AICN community news. Long time AICNer, Jeff Mahler - known far and wide as "flmlvr" amongst his legion of identities - has gone and taken the top Jury Award at DancesWithFilms festival in Los Angeles. Now - Jeff has been with AICN since his days of High School. He showed me a rough cut of INSIDE at the Alamo Drafthouse South back a while ago - and upon seeing it, I ceased looking at him as the madman with an absolutely unhealthy love affair with TEEN WOLF and PopTarts... no longer did I see him as a strange little man that uses the word, "Rad" way way waaaay too much. I realized that Mahler was well on his way to becoming one helluva filmmaker... or "flmmkr" as he'll probably become known as.

Some of you will get a chance to see Mahler's award winning film at this year's FANTASTIC FEST, along with a great many other wonderful genre films.

What is INSIDE? It's a fantastic little film about how you shouldn't look too closely into the lives of "normal" folks, as what you may find, could be horrifying. It's a textured quiet weird film that reminds me of films like PEEPING TOM. Think of a suburban version of that - and you're nowhere near this film. Ah hell, you'll see it when someone smart picks the film up.

I always wanted to make films, never have had the will to do it (I recently graduated high school). Good to know it's possible still!

    by mcgsstepson

Ah Woody and the makers of Quincenera, what the hell are you doing? To the marketing demographic that enjoys Sideshow Collectibles and trips to Las Vegas involving orgran theft.

Just kidding. Nice work, Jeff. Now you have a responsibility to put out a lackluster second film, if only so the Talkbackers in here can bitch and moan about how you used to be so edgy and cool, before you sold out. :)

Where is the John Carter of Mars story?

    by crayonpie

The Fahvreau interview was promised for Tuesday! Where is it? Is AICN supressing the info?
Post it! Good or Bad we want it!

    cool, BUT....

    by thebearovingian

this guy didn't make ZWARTBOEK!!! So in comparison can this really be labeled an accomplishment? This is just like the number of kids who grow up playing sports but the percentage of them who actually make it to the pros is microscopic. flmlvr beat the overwhelming odds. He's that kid from the Sandlot (no, not the fat, freckled kid). LAUS DEO

    Thats RAD Jeff, Hey Harry...

    by prague23

That's 'cool news' and all, but what's the movie about? How about a review, your opinion, some insight!? Maybe we'll get it after the Fantastic Fest I'll be missing. Hope so. Because that theme of 'looking deeper' is a common one among many a new filmmaker and after 'Blue Velver' 'American Beauty' and others that have used the theme poorly, I'd be excited if I could be excited about being excited about the existance of this film and maybe even seeing it. Know what I mean?
