UPDATED! Quint has seen VENOM!!! SPIDER-MAN 3 Comic-Con panel!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here from the floor at Comic-Con. I just saw the SPIDER-MAN 3 presentation and had to tell you about.
Panel included Sam Raimi, Thomas Hayden Church, Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire, Bryce Dallas Howard and Topher Grace. They teased us about not bringing footage, then finally unleashed upon us.
Guys, Venom is fucking great... Let's start with him...
The footage opened with Topher dipping his fingers, crossing himself in a church. He looks completely distraught, eyes red... he looks like life has beaten him down. His voice wavers and he prays. He's alone in the church. He asks God for his help. "It's Brock, sir. Edward B-brock Jr. (stutters) I'm here... humbled and humiliated... to ask you for one thing... I want you to kill Peter Parker." Then a bunch of stuff happened that I'll get to in a second. The trailer ended with Topher and Venom.
There was a montage of quick clips of Tobey Maguire at the top of the bell tower ripping the black suit off him. "I have to stop it." The SPIDER-MAN 3 logo comes up and you think that's it... but then we saw some unfinished effects of the symbiote dripping down, falling towards Topher Grace who is looking up. One drop falls and hits his right hand, immediately wrapping around his hand. The bulk of the symbiote hits him and wraps around him, pulling him to the ground, totally engulfing him. A cut and the camera is low to the ground a good distance away. It Raimi-cams EVIL DEAD style towards the black bulking mass. As it gets near the mass, Venom's head whips up looking straight into camera, which doesn't slow down and ends up rushing into his mouth where it goes to black.
Venom's face. Exactly what you want to see. Big, big toothy mouth, bright white eyes. Looks just like the later McFarlane Venom face.
The design looks great, Topher was great in the church sequence as Brock... Count me totally psyched... I'm updating this story with the rest of the footage, but wanted to share the Venom stuff right away! Stay tuned!

Okay, here's the rest. The footage started with Peter looking at himself in a mirror, he slowly parted his shirt revealing the black suit underneath. There were lots of quick shots, including James Franco chasing Spider-Man between the buildings, swinging what looked like a long sword at him. The majority of the effects were rough and unfinished and almost all the Harry Osborn stuff was very rough. If the rough animation is any indicator, he'll be wearing mostly black with some green around his hands and face.
There may be some spoilers here, so be careful.
I might be misinterpreting this, but you know the shot in the trailer that looks like James Franco had a pumpkin bomb lobbed at him? I think Peter throws it. There was a series of shots with voice over talking about regret and doing things you shouldn't. There was that shot from the trailer and a shot of Parker looking pissed off, mask off, but black suit on. He's standing in the hallway, Franco's on the floor and it really does look like he tosses the bomb. There's a shot later of James Franco being loaded onto a stretcher, neck brace on.

There was some Sandman stuff. Rough effects, again, of Spidey punching Sandman's face, part of his mouth flying off in particles (sand). The rough animation had his skeletal structure underneath, but that could all be for reference. There was also a shot of Sandman with his giant hammer hand whooping the shit out of Spider-Man, sending him flying off camera... That's what I remember the most from the footage... besides that awesome Venom footage... The panel went on.... more on that in a moment...
THE PANEL:
- The biggest slip at the panel come from Kirsten Dunst, who just loves to spit out spoilers. She was asked by a young girl which villain would she enjoy being kidnapped by the most. Kirsten "ummm..." and "aaahhh..."ed a few times. Topher cleared his throat, loudly. She goes, "You totally just gave something away!" The audience laughs and Topher repeats the question, "Who WOULD you want to be captured by?" Whoops. So, it's safe to assume Eddie or Venom abducts MJ in the movie. Thanks, Kirsten.

- Topher Grace grew up a huge fan of the SPIDER-MAN books and in particular loves the McFarlane era Venom. He likes that Eddie is Peter's doppelganger even before the whole Venom/Spidey "two different sides of the same coin" relationship comes in.

- Raimi was begged to give something up about the origin of the symbiote, but he wouldn't say. He did say that he wanted to keep the film grounded in a sort of real world and that he was avoiding the cosmic, which would make me think it's not going to be an alien. Raimi wanted to keep it a secret until it came out.
- Raimi was asked about the music, and specifically about Christopher Young and why Danny Elfman left. Raimi responded saying he wanted Elfman to return to score the film and that he really hoped Young and Elfman would team up together, Young assisting. He give a lot of credit to Danny Elfman and feels he's a big part of the universe.
- Regarding Harry Osborn. Riami said he is NOT Green Goblin II and he is NOT Hobgoblin, but something else. He wouldn't say any more than he is still very upset about his father's death and he does use his father's technology to go after Spider-Man.
- Thomas Hayden Church was asked about his previous roles in films like SIDEWAYS and comparing them to his role in SPIDER-MAN 3. He responded, "Strangely enough in SIDEWAYS I was also made of sand..."
- Church also talked about Raimi as a director: "Sam is nurturing, even offering his breast at the time... you know, if I was hungry and the food was too far away..."
- Raimi played around a bit with Church, but said something very heartfelt and genuine. He said that Church brought a very real amount of humanity to the role of Sandman. He's not just your typical villain in this movie.

- The Sandman poster seems to prove that. I should have a glimpse for you soon, but it was shown in the same batch that the Peter Parker and Eddie Brock ones on this page were. Sandman's poster was of him standing tall, on the New York streets, back to us. His legs are sand piles, his hands sand and he looks like he's ready to fight with his right hand, but his left is protectively holding a little girl behind him. He's protecting her from something, something he's facing and we can't see.
- Other posters shown: Gwen Stacey (strangely enough, in a class room with Doc Conners in the background), Kirsten Dunst looking all sexy and caught in jet black webbing and the two you see on this page.
- Is Bruce Campbell in the movie? Sam: "I can't keep Bruce outta these movies!" So, still no denial.. maybe that Mysterio rumor has something to it...
- What about EVIL DEAD remake? Sam says he dropped it when dealing with SPIDER-MAN 3, but might pick it up again when he finishes.
- Topher let something go... Venom won't be completely CGI. He said it took him 45 minutes just to get into his suit and 4 1/2 hours in make-up, he said. Very interesting, says I.
- Regarding the high number of villains, Raimi said that they all come about due to the story. They aren't just wallpaper. They each have a real reason for being in there, dramatically. He wouldn't go any deeper than that.
- Why Venom, after Raimi has said he doesn't care for the character? He said Avi Arad brought it up, saying this is the 3rd film and, pretty much, Raimi shouldn't be greedy. So, Raimi consented for the fans, but said that after seeing what Alvin Sargent did with him in the script he started to really take to the character. Then when he saw what Topher Grace brought to it, he fell in love with the character. "I may be the latest and last Venom fan..."
- Topher talks about being called in for a meeting. No one told him why, just to meet at Sony. He showed up and there was Sam Raimi, Avi Arad and some others. He said he thought, 'I know what this is,' but then he wasn't SPIDER-MAN... so...
- Some more funny stuff: some guy came up to the mic wearing a giant blue, red and yellow Superman symbol t-shirt. He was asking his question and Raimi said, "What's that on your shirt? Is that the new SPIDER-MAN symbol? I've been seeing that everywhere!"
- Tobey Maguire was asked about how the black suit affects Peter Parker in the film and he was very non-committal, but said that Parker will "acting shockingly."
- Finally, the question was asked, "Is this the last one?" Tobey answered the question saying that they tie up a lot of threads in this one, but don't completely close the door. As long as there are good stories to tell, he thinks they'll be there to tell them.

That's it on the SPIDER-MAN 3 presentation. I'll have some new pics from the panel up here soon, so keep checking back. I'll also have an interview I did with a certain hot blonde and a certain director who is going to be watching over the... something... Plus an update to my GRINDHOUSE coverage and my 300 coverage. Be back soon!

Bring on the big tongue!
-
That means first! Good news on VENOM!
-
Madness!
-
Glad to see that the Venom design will remain faithful to the comics. Perhaps that makes up for Sony saving pennies on the "Black" Spider-Man suit.
-
Supposedly a pic is available for download on cell phones, so it shouldn't be long before someone posts something.
-
Until I get to see it, I won't get any more excited or enthused than that. But now I know it's a certainty that Venom'll be in 3.
-
Sony Pictures has updated the official Spider-Man 3 website with the first photo of Venom! You can view the photo in wallpaper form by selecting "Wallpaper 2". http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/spiderman3/site/
-
The pic released by Sony is a tease. Its not Venom, just a shot of Topher's head getting covered by the Symbiote.
-
Did I say whoa?
-
McFarlane drew him as a blocky chunk of meat. Bagley drew him as something that was a more muscular distorted version of Spider-man. Plus, there is a little thing of attitude. I've met both McFarlane and Bagley, and I can honestly say, McFarlane is an egotistical arse. Bagley was a very nice guy.
-
...we'll be able to download that Comic Con footage via the internet? And while that new wallpaper is BA, it only makes me want to see fully costumed Venom even more! I can't help but love and hate Raimi at the same time for teasin us like this.
-
You cant come soon enough! I get Venom and a pirate Chow Yun Fat in the same month? Too good to be true(I hope not). Seriously, I havent been this excited for a movie since Episode 1. Spidy 3 is going to be a classic.
-
don't you let kurtwood smith jam his foot up your ass!
-
Damn you and your quickness
-
The Sandman teaser poster doesn't look that hot though...
-
Count me totally disappoitned. I was looking forward to exactly what Quint was describing, but I get the symbiote instead. Cool photo, but I was unncessarily pumped for about 20 minutes. Anyway, May can't come fast enough. I needs me my Spidey.
-
F You.
-
Wouldn't have this been the perfect opportunity for a fan to ask about Raimi's change of heart for Venom? I mean, yeah, he could make up some bullshit story, but given all of the anti-Venom I've read over the last 5 years, you'd think he'd have something to say about it. Or at least have someone ask about it.
-
you can officially stop posting.
-
Anyone? XD
-
Awesome coverage as usual.
-
looks pretty effin' sweet.
-
please do something with this. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/kalel99/venom-transform.jpg
-
Just gotta get someone to match that texture, try asking someone in the Zone!
-
I'll eat my hat..Get the trailers rolling out now so the suits at Warners get it through their thick heads how misguided it was to let Singer squander $250 million......and does Spidey need to recreate the U.S. in another country??
-
I'll bet dollars to donuts this movie is about Spidey vs Sandman and Harry and the black suit storyline unfolds against that. Peter will free himself of the symbiote and it will bond with Eddie Brock and when the camera disappears into his mouth, that'll be the ending and set-up for the Spidey/Venom showdown in part 4.
-
At 415, for the 5 o clock panel, was already a few thousand strong. Glad quint got in...
-
Looking like the Mcfarlane version of Venom? Amazing. And exactly what I hoped for. I know Topher is going to be great in this role, the kid can definetely act. Besides he banged Laura Linney in that movie, so.....He's got my respect.
-
Best poster on here
-
I'm dying to see that footage!
-
My office is full of Venom toys, posters and masks... so I'm a pretty hard core Venom fan. When I saw Venom today at the panel, I went ape shit! He looked AWESOME!! Just like the mask sitting on my desk back in Austin!!! Now, if they just get that white spider right, then I owe Sam Raimi my first born. But even if the white spider doesn't make it on his chest, just that McFarlane face alone earns Raimi my second child or something!!! AWESOME!!!!
-
Any footage from the thing? Please!
-
Just in case anybody still thought it wasn't and that they were going with an Ultimate Spidey type origin. Raimi let it slip during the roundtable discussion.
-
That picture is just awesome! I just set it as the wallpaper on my computer. Awesome stuff Quint. Anything on the forth vilain?

Was it just my imagination or didn't Avi Arad say That Spider Man 3 had 4 villians. That the 4th would be revealed at Comicon

Bravo Quint, you da man, not only did you do the easy part, showing up, you did the other easy part, posting a description of what you saw. Hey, I'm also going to my son's graduation, cause while I expect it of him, it doesn't mean I won't pat him on the back for it- my father
-
Was Doc Conners the Lizard in the comics? I think he was. They've already got an A list actor/star with Dylan Baker. A while ago Raimi said there was going to be 6 spideys total, on spec, and i just read that a talkbacker thought Nolan might be bringing Scarecrow back for a little in the next Batman movie, -- what a killer idea: continuity between films, i mean these spideys are already raimi's three children, with presumably more on the way. after the spidey tetralogy or decalogue or whatever itl be i'd like to see him to a one-off on a hero, maybe an original, he'll've developed the muscle for it by then, both in chops and entourage, and that's for sure
-
perhaps Spidey will return to form after number 2.
-
coming from this film. Casting, pics/trailers, marketing all kick ass. Raimi is the F-ing man. He needs to dedicate the rest of his career on Spiderman or some other Marvel franchise.
-
Damn, this is defintely going to be the shit. Can't wait to actually see the real Venom, but that teaser pic ain't bad.
-
this will be an awesome movie no doubt... i have my concerns about harry not being green goblin II or hobgoblin atleast though... It doesn't seem right to make him an evil villain and yet not make him what he was in the comics... im confused.
-
What Raimi has done with Spider-Man is amazing. Seeing the teeth on Brock extending in that desktop photo is fantastic. May just cannot get here fast enough!!
-
Well, it looks like he finally gave his reasons for Venom. Glad someone asked the question. And I probably should have waited until Quint put up the rest of the report before I left my last post. And just having Raimi say about the villians that "they all serve the story" is enough for me to quell my fears about a bloated movie. God bless Sam Raimi.
-
July 23, 2006, 12:05 a.m. CST
Just goes to show you Raimi didn't pay attention to the
by Spiderhulk
Comics very well if he didn't think Venom was one of spider-man's most intriguing villains. In history it has always been the doppelganger that helps the protagonist see his true colours and delve into the dark secrets of mankind. There is a little bit of spider-man in some of us, but there is a raging venom in all of us.
-
IS the com con video online yet?
-
Wasn't it confirmed that the fourth villain would actually be Spider-Man himself - the symbiote infected Spider-Man?
-
Of the hundreds of big-time fans there tonight, why can't ONE just ONE person sneak a camera in and put the footage on YouTube for all to see? You do that once, it will spread like wildfire and be hosted on dozens of sites. There's no way to track it. You see, for big stuff like this, that never happens. Yet, go on YouTube, and you can view as many Kevin Smith-hosted events at Comic Con panels of the past. That's all good and well, but, dammit, some of you nerds need to get on the ball with the BIGGER stuff there.
-
I can confirm and agree with everything Quint said. The footage rocked, even though it was pretty raw. Venom looked AWESOME. Thomas Hayden Church was hilarious. Kirsten was cute (and ditzy), but I must say that Bryce Dallas Howard was simply stunning. A couple of fans slipped something about a fourth villian into their questions directed towards Raimi, but Mr. Raimi never confirmed nor denied the existence of a fourth villian (in general, they were VERY tight-lipped about the story). I do remember at one point (earlier this year), Avi Arad saying that there is a fourth villian and that it will "blow your socks off". I also remember reading something about Chameleon at one point..hm...
-
That's such a major spoiler, I can't believe they let it slip out. Non-disclosure agreement be damned, she's giving away some truly unexpected plot points. I never figured they would put that character in any kind of peril. I don't have any reason to see this movie anymore. Fuck it, it's ruined for me. Thanks a lot Kirsten Dunst. And that picture of Sam Raimi and the back of Bryce Dallas Howard's face is obviously FAKE.
-
I know they may want to leave it ambiguous, but how can they say that it is unclear whether this is the last one or not? Isn't the 4th film filming right after, or at least a for sure thing? And also, how is Spider-Man the 4th villain? It seems like a cop out to me. Not that I don't have complete faith in this film, and am totally excited for it.
-
They allow us to take photos and videos of anything we want until video appears on the screens. At that time, they turn down the lights and give the warning about recording. Then THEY WATCH US LIKE HAWKS. Security guards walk up and down the aisles checking for people recording. I got a talking to at one panel for having my digital camera on and in my hand during a crappy DVD preview of The Boondocks. I imagine it would take some real sneakiness, maybe some spy technology, to get footage of the video previews.

I still hate the idea of Eddie Brock being Peter Parker's doppelganger. Eddie in the comics was the OPPOSITE of puny Parker. He was a big beefy guy who instead of making the best of the cards he was dealt blamed everyone and everything for his own shortcomings. I HATE the casting of Topher Grace as Eddie Brock! That being said I LOVE Sam Raimi's work on the Spiderman franchaise, I LOVE Topher Grace as an actor. I love the casting of Sandman and Harry Osborn, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea (rumor or not) of Bruce Campbell turning out to be Mysterio!!!
-
I was told they were shooting a flick of Manimal: http://www.cafepress.com/manimalmovie
-
thats just the starting process of turning into Venom. Yet people are calling it a pic of Venom? WTF is wrong with you people?
-
Only a small, quick, fuzzy animated gif version of the Venom transformation, but it's out there...
-
When I saw the first movie, I noticed amung the descriptions of the various spiders used to make the "super" spider that bit Peter. One could change its appearence to match its environment. The symboite always could change its appearence. I predicted that the Venom symbote will ooze from Peter himself.
-
Rough transcipt of roundtable discussion with Raimi: Person asks how Raimi would fit Venom into the more 'realistic' realm of the spidey movies: Raimi: "We just said to ourselves, uh, Kirsten and Toby you'll have to do the heavy lifting here (as actors) to bring it back down to earth, cause he's this wild goof from outer space and, um, (crowd laughs) and you're just gonna have to connect us to the characters." Reporter: "So he's from outer space then?" Raimi (joking): Ah-I never said that sir, I don't know what you're talking about" (crowd laughs).
-
Annnnnnd you couldn't have been bothered to at least point us in the right direction of it?
-
http://tinyurl.com/knzwo
-
I repeat...There is NO leaked vid of venoms transformation anywhere on the internet. The vid another talkbacker speaks of is nothing but a manipulated video from the movie "spawn". All the nerd did was digitally enhance it with venom. I say "nerd" as being the suspect behind this only because of the quality of the vid in question. It was actually pretty fucking convincing and had me fooled.
-
That's a new video file. That's apparently (hopefully) the real deal and not that 'spawn' video from a while back.
-
I've seen that one before - I know the Spawn stuff's a fake. And that little blurry GIF is lame. Why did anyone even bother posting that shit? You can't see anything.
-
I taped the whole trailer, no one said a damn thing.
-
Dude, this is for the Spider-Man 3 Venom video, hahaha
-
How long d'you suppose before Sony releases official pics/footage of full-on Venom to the general public? Cuz seriously, I'm tingly all over here . . .
-
YOU DID NOT RECORD ANYTHING YOU BIG MOUTHED FKR I WORK FOR SECURITY IN THE COMICON AND I WAS UNDERCOVER, NOBODY RECORDED ANYTHING AT THE SP3 PANEL!
-
Venom + comic = pretty weak Macfarlane BS. Venom + movie = laughable. I'm ready to be proved wrong though; I hope Raimi does it!
-
What a piece of shit way to end the trilogy.
-
Raimi said during the roundtable discussion earlier in the day that he is STILL trying to get Elfman to collaborate with Young. It's not official that Young is scoring it on his own... yet.
-
Elman's Spider-man score wasn't all that great. His Batman score created music that would forever be associated with the character (so much so that I missed it a little in BB), but I can't remember a single note of Elman's Spider-man music. Not that big a deal, I don't think.
-
It should be Henry Rollins. Eddie has a lot of rage problems and could snap you in half. I think this "clone of Peter" BS shouldn't have been used and they should've just gone with him as the surly co-worker who could bench press you.
-
I wish they could have settled for either Sandman or Venom. If they are going to introduce us to Gwen, Sandman and Venom and tie up the Harry Osbourne story I fear it will be very rushed. And now I read that some of you are hoping for a fourth mysterious villain... Are you nuts???
-
Spiderman is the enbodiment of the underdog. Hoplessly out matched out numbered and out prepared. Thats what makes it such a great story. Whether its four villains or a sinister six, spidey still pulls it off. Besides most of his enemies are people in his life that hes known for a while. not to show them would be deviating from the storyline.
-
So in other words you think the first two movies deviates from the storyline?
-
Villains compared to X3. 3 or 4 villains are way more manageable than the what? 180 or so in X3? Now that was a crapfest. As for this movie, I have taken an oath to no longer judge movies by their trailers...I can only hope it will turn out great....I wasn't very impressed with Spidey 2. As for sticking to the comic storylines, I don't mind deviation as long as the end product is well made.
-
"If the rough animation is any indicator, Harry Osborn will be wearing mostly black with some green around his hands and face." http://www.shorttext.com/utkbu
-
Venom and Green Goblin are much smaller secondary characters that will help move to the resolution. I would rather see one quick fight with James Franco's Green Goblin than have Spidey beat up more crooks in black hats and sweaters. When you rewatch the Spiderman movies on DVD they can get boring waiting for the next super villian confrontation.**** If all of the villians were on equal footing like the Batman movies, it would be a mistake. I think we will be emotionally invested in seeing Sandman defeated. What is ironic is that everyone seems to be the least interested in him. He will probably be the coolest thing in the movie.
-
about this flick. I hate sequels to anything but this is shaping up to be the best of the series. Harry is not the Green or Hob Goblin...hmmm. I hope the film explanation behind Venom isn't totally gay either but if he kidnaps MJ, maybe he'll stuff her mouth with black goo so we don't have to listen to her for a while. My prediction for the end of this flick...Like in the comics, Spidey will have to save Gwen but ends up killing her instead. I have a feeling there will be deaths a plenty in this one.
-
Regarding Harry Osborn. Riami said he is NOT Green Goblin II and he is NOT Hobgoblin, but something else. He wouldn't say any more than he is still very upset about his father's death and he does use his father's technology to go after Spider-Man. I am utterly Mystified, by the above statement. Maybe Mysterio. then if it aint mysterio, then who is it?hmmmmm.....
-
It seems a little too reflective so it ends up looking gray. Also, they seem to love the fact that the costume has all these little textured "cells' in it, so to make them visible it you don't get the deep black needed to contrast with the white web-lines. That's my only complaint so far and its really a nit-pick. Looking forward to next summer.
-
I hope that MJ doesn't get kidnapped in this one. They have already done it twice, I hope that they can come up with something new for the next film.
-
I really hope they don't take away its ability to morph into clothing. Maybe its before he realizes it could do that.
-
. . . if there is an even longer battle between Peter and the brooms and mops in the janitor's closet. Oh yeah, and an even more intriguing cake eating scene with the landlords skinny daughter. And, to boot, I would need to see even more bistanders see Spidey unmasked. Let's say every single person in Times Square. That would be the only way this could become the best comic-book adaptation yet.
-
I think it's going to suck, maybe the trailer will change my mind!
-

"Topher Grace grew up a huge fan of the SPIDER-MAN book
by rev_skarekroe
An actor in a comic-book movie who actually reads comic-books? That's gotta be a first.
-
Harry Osborn isn't going to be a "goblin," which wouldn't be as terrible if it didn't most likely mean that the stupid "extreme sports" costume was probably perminant.
-
Luckily some of my other guys were inside watching the show....check out what they thought @ http://www.movietack.net/r946-comic-con-sony-presentsspider-man-3-movie-news.html
-
"a shot at Erik larsen's version. He didn't like the look so he took it to the extreme with the slobbering tongue and huge mouth as a fuck you to Erik."...Actually it was the other way around. Larsen took over drawing Amazing Spider-man after McFarlane left. Larsen was the one who popularized the over the top fangs, teeth, and slobber. And for the record, David Michelinie did not create Venom. Neither did McFarlane. The character evolved through multiple artists/writers going all the way back to Mike Zeck.
-
They've said several times that four villians will appear in this one, and to me that seems that either one won't get any real character development in this one, or that they are planning to shoot the 4th Spidey ALMOST directly after they shoot this one. I know they have said the rumors of shooting back-to-back films aren't true, but wouldn't that be the best way of keeping things hush, but then again who knows.
-
I certainly didn't hear any fucking outcry from Spider-Man fans desperately wanting Venom to be in this new movie. Let fucking Sam Raimi make his goddamn movie the way he wants it to be made.
-
Here's a tinyurl for the big one, I can't imagine this will be up for long though. http://tinyurl.com/k7l9s
-
From the footage leaked, and from what's been said, a lot of it looks to be done all ready. Now yes, I realize that effects take time, and nobody wants quality sacrificed, but if it's done filming now, a whole year on post seems a little excessive, I'm sure it could come out at an earlier date.
-
post production, editing, scoring it, effects work, reshoots if necessary ... why half ass it to get it out early? they did the right thing giving themselves as much time as possible
-
they want it to be a summer movie, and while that answer wont satisfy most fans they want to make the most money possible and therefore are going to release it in may, even if its ready in november, no one releases tentpole movies then, except family flicks and fantasy movies....No this is a summer comic book flick all the way
-
Looks amazing
-
It's amazing how noone knows how to steady a camera these days or use the zoom button. I heard G4 showed some footage, I wonder if they showed the venom part.
-
I will say this is a good report BY THE WAY the Iron Man villian has been announced, it's mandarin. Where were ya on that one AICN? just kidding. Kinda
-
Apparently there was Pirates 3 footage shown too. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=15624 I hope it leaked.
-
and allen and hanks are both coming back for toy story 3. Don't worry AICN, i got your back...
-
so whenever it gets taken down, i'll still have it. it looks like crap, but i'll take it
-
It`s AMAZING how Topher Grace looks like the genuine Peter Parker from the comics!

So Harry doesn't become goblin 2, but SOMETHING ELSE?
by KongMonkey
What the hell could he become. A new villain made entirely for the film universe? or will he become a familiar one, hence changing the comic history, etc. Like say, scorpion or shocker maybe. Something that he could become "using his fathers technology"
-
a better Peter than Maguire. Tobey ain't bad, though.
-
Let's get a solid depiction. I can make out the profile of Venom at the end of the leaked footage, but I want something better. Just pencil ans scan it. Something. I want it.
-
Is he going to be played by a white guy?
-
if there is 4 villians in this one, which would be surprising but apparently people said there is, I think it would be Doc Ock.
-
Yeah, if there really is a fourth villain, and it's not just a bad Peter Parker/Spider-Man, I would have to go with Doc Ock making a reappearance somewhere in the film, as crazy as that sounds. I especially find it weird that the Spider-Man 3 toy line includes Doc Ock.
-
Lizard. He was introduced in the second film (his teacher if anyone didn't know, which is doubtful). And I hear he becomes kind of an asshole in 3. So it may be Lizard and Venom in numero 4.
-
I find it amusing that the symbiote costume, storyline, Venom, and Carnage all have roots in the silly Secret Wars Series - although I loved it as a kid.
-
because Bruce Campbell would be perfect in the role (and he actually resembles the character somewhat
-
says that bruce is in the film and he plays mysterio. but imdb has been wrong before, considering none of us saw emma frost in X3.
-
Because I still remember how a year before "Spider-Man 2" appears, they put Sam Neill as the lizzard...
-
I don't remember that in the comic. As long as they balance it out with portraying someone of faith in a positive manner I'm okay with it. But if it is another example of making the Christian a nutbag...uhg, it has been done to death.
-
Yes, Brock's religion was brought up in his first full appearance (AMAZING SPIDEY #300), which detailed his origin. Brock went to a Catholic church to confess his sins, as he prepared to kill himself after his failed career and marriage. As fate (and David Michelinie) would have it, it was the same church where Spidey had finally rid himself of the symbiote, courtesy of those big ol' bells. The movie sounds like it follows that part of the Venom storyline very closely - except Brock had no knowledge of Peter Parker prior to that incident, only an unreasonable hatred of Spider-Man...
-
Bruce Campbell and Quentin Beck/Mysterio has been the popular rumor for awhile, but I think that if there's a 4th villain in the mix (that's not "Dark Spidey") it'll be a cameo, like Campbell will appear as Beck, do something funny that only Spidey fans will get, then disappear (at least until part 4!). Because as it is, this movie is already packed with enough material for 2 movies.
-
The fact you called McFarlane a hired hack shows that you are a douchebag of the highest order and have no taste in comic art, or what McFarlane represents to Spider-Man whatsoever. So in closing, kiss your own ass after a Taco dinner. And as for no Elfman...FUCKING GREAT! Everything he writes for Spiderman sounds like his work for Batman, in fact, Doc's theme is basically the fucking Penguin's theme, listen to it.... And Raimi's an idiot if he thinks the Sandman, who is nothing but a bank robbing thug, is more intriguing than Venom, who when handled right was incredible.
-
Mcfarlean was drew Venom before Larson. larson came right after mcfaleoane
-
my fookin gawd I can't wait for this movie!!!!
-
i want to see the face. that video (though awesome in it's leakity leakage) is toooo far to see what the face really looks like. im actually interested in how they ground the symbiotes in reality. but i JUST WANNA SEE THE FACE ONCE! i cannot wait for this movie. i hope it's like 3 hours long...
-
stvnhthr, have you forgotten Aunt May has always been overtly Christian and portrayed positively?
-
I liked Batman Begins alot and I'm looking forward to a sequel to both Batman Begins and Superman Returns. With that being said I'm officialy counting down the days to this movie comes out!!!!!! I grew up loving the Spiderman/Venom/Carnage storyline really more so than anything else going on at that time, and the thought of Sam Raimi directing a Spiderman vs Venom fight is almost more than I can take. There is no better fit in the comics to movie genre to date than the Raimi Spiderman films. He has done a great job and this is his calling. The cast helmed by Tobey and having Raimi directing with these wonderful writters on the job could make more money than anything else out there. I know i'm rambling but seriously there are endless possibilites with villans, guest superhero's and I hope it never ends.
-
...movie, I told my then-girlfriend that, if they were smart, they'd cast that skinny kid and the tall redhead from That 70's show as Peter and Mary Jane. She, not being very bright, told me she doubted they were going to make it a period piece just to appeal to old farts like me (yeah, she ws dumped shortly thereafter). Anyway, I still think Topher would've been a better Pete and Laura definitely would've beena better MJ. As for Venom, I was one of those guys (from the old fart school) who didn't want that 90s anti-hero cliche anywhere near this pic. But if the screenwriters have turned the character into something Raimi can appreciate, I've got to trust the man's judgement. Bring on the triple-threat of super villainy goodness. I'll be there with bells on.
-
Dispite his atrocious spelling. McFarlane drew Venom before Larsen. Then he left to do Spawn. Larsen drew the first incarnation of Carnage if I remember correctly. I have the comic, but it was like 10 years ago, and I've lost too many brain cells since then. I can't remember that far back. Larsen then left to achieve even greater heights at Image, working on the stellar Savage Dragon (please note sarcasm).
-
He wasn't an anti-hero to begin with. In the McFarlane run, he was a twisted, hate-filled psychopath who knew everything about Peter. Way more depth to the early character than any of the lame rogues gallery that came before (Kraven and Doc Ock being the exceptions).

Im GLAD they got Topher Grace and Thomas Hayden Church.
by SydBarretsMyDad
they tend to lend a dose of anti-ego to the procedings, what with Kirsten Dunst obviously not wanting to go any further in the series, and tobey always striking me as a little arrogant.
-
here is a clip: http://tinyurl.com/k7l9s cant see shit but kinda can make stuff out
-
And not try to kill off the series like X3. I really wish they would have introduced the Sentinel Program and the gone deeper about the cure and terrorism...I would have loved a quiet scene at the end of the film right after Magneto realizes the cure is temporary of Cyclops heading to Alkali Lake to contemplate the tumultuos events and his beginning to coming to terms about losing Jean. Just imagine him at the lake hearing voices and him Optic Blasting the water than all the whirlpool stuff. He turns around and sees Jean standing there and he says, "Jean?" BAM! Shock cut to Directed by Brett Ratner. They should have made a trilogy man...what a waste of potential, it's frustrating because I really liked a lot of stuff in there, you know? I would like Doc Ock to come back, I realy would and I would a montage of Spidey in black beating up minor villians instead of thugs, you know? I am worried Venom is going to be scrawny. I like him as huge. They should get Vin Diesel to play Venom in the suit as an homage to rumors. And I like Eddie Brock as real big guy. He's strong but his life is out of control.
-
Put down the crack pipe and walk away slowly.
-
being in this film. Who was it? Because right now it looks like he is losing.
-
i can spell im just at work so im typing super fast to get out what i want to say. GO VENOM!!!! FINALLY!!!!!
-
I was just busting your balls. By the way is your handle a ref to the comic book character or Dirty Harry?
-
You can tell that their setting this up as Sandman being the hero with Spidey being all evil, it's a twisted version of Spideys original idea...with him choosing evil and a guy who could have chosen evil coming out to fight him...hence why we can't see who sandman is fighting in that poster. And Peter Parker's dark side makes Eddie Brock look like an angel....it was the symbiotes all consuming need to be bonded to Peters darkness that makes venom keep coming.....
-
Because Raimi hinted at this earlier in the year, namely there would an ode to the blob. Meteroite Crashs lands on Earth on that Meteorite is the symbiote, part of the meteroite breaks off some where near or in new york city but its small nobody notices and when peter parker is leaving his date with Mary jane he steps on some gum but it is not gum and the symbiote takes him over and makes him parker really volatile. Parker heads to the bell tower, but doesnt realise that Brock is following him and so Brock becomes Venom. Brock is filled with Hate. he becomes the monster. While parker is bad spidey he does bad things like kill Gwen Stacy. Where Sandman and the new Villain comes I have no idea.
-
http://tinyurl.com/j6ts3 Crap Quality, can hardly make out anything, but you most certainly can hear the audience reaction to someone special

I completely agree with all the fans that say Bryce isn't fat, I challenge you to see this exclusive pic of her before imaginng touching and wire removal I worked as an extra and I can tell you the photos of her in the harness do not make her justice, here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/qx2h8

Sam Raimi? He done Spidey good!
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZiW7MKCnik
-
thanks for that link! You can make out the general gist of the Venom design from that . . . ohhh who am I kidding? You see white where the teeth should be and black where the head is. What do we have to do to get Sony to release this to the public?
-
Anyone at the talk-back have the guts to ask Raimi why he screwed up the black costume?
-
Parker will "acting shockingly."
-
Sony is being very smart. To release images of venom in full on venomy goodness right now would be stupid, and the interest would wane very quickly by the time the movie comes around to theatres. I'm guessing we wont even see venom till right before the film is released in trailers if then... and this supposed 4th villain is going to be very hush hush until it is released if there even is one. Frankly I feel it was stupid of them to even release a clip of venom at comic con... let alone a poster of his half transformation.
-
I have a feeling everything in this movie is a result of Pete going to the doctor in Spider-Man 2. Watch that scene again and tell me I'm crazy.
-
I was one of the few to win one of the wristbands that morning in a raffle. All we were told was that is was for something having to do with Spider-man. VERY surprised when they all showed up in the room for the signing. As usual with these signings at Comic-Con, no pics, they all just signed a big Spidey 3 poster and chatted a bit with the fans. LOTS of fun! And Opie's daughter...HOT!!! And Dunst needs to eat a sandwich, but she was still nice to look at and everyone was very friendly. And I got a signed poster out of it, so no complaints here!
-
Quoted directly from Sam Raimi - "There's a lot of fantastic elements about Venom that you could say are in conflict with the realism that we wanted to have in the picture. But we just said to ourselves, 'Kirsten and Tobey, you'll have to do the heavy lifting here to bring it back down to Earth, because there's this wild goo from outer space, and you're just going to have to connect us to the characters.'" - from SciFI Wire So it seems that while they won't do the entire Venom backstory, the symbiote will still be from space - good news.
-
all the youtube stuff is down so i found this link on a forum http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243793&page=21
-
I love his music in the Hellraiser films and considering that Danny Elfman seemed to pinch bits of the Hellbound score for Spidey 2 (check out the bit when Octavius demonstrates his sun thingy to the press) it's only fitting that Young takes his place!
-
With the creation of the symbiote... That said has there been a script review of this anywhere yet?
-
I always hated how Venoms tongue got bigger and bigger ... sort of like a retarded kid licking a school bus window...
-
Sheesh now I'M starting to sound like a retarded kid on a school bus...

I want to see Venom badly, but Carnage is a derelict
by Cletus Van Damme
-
It will probably be just as uninspired and lame...but you Venom fetishists can maybe get off.
-
Anyone knows what's going to be the running time of this one? If they have that many villians I guess it has to be loong.
-
Spiderman is turning out to be the best superhero movie franchise ever. Can't wait to see Venom in all his glory.

Looks like we may finally get a good film -NightArrows,
by ComputerGuy68
I like the way you think!
-
Because some -- and I'm being generous to your argument here with the use of the word "some" -- people actually liked 'Spidey 2.' I know you're the arbiter of good taste and all, but that seems like the primary reason to care about 3 if you ask me.
-
Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of ridiculous that she's always the damsel in distress in these films? I'm not saying she should be a butt-kicking action heroine or anything like that, but why does it seem like the only way to make the audience care about defeating the villain is by placing the girlfriend in harm's way? It just seems so... I dunno, shrewd, to me.
-
The hero has always saved the girl........its not a new thing. I agree with you though it would be nice if the hero left the girl to die at the villans hands but it will never happen.
-
Morty2626, if you were the screenwriter, how would you explain Peter Parker being OK with some black glob forming an entirely new costume around his body? There's just no way to have the comic-book black costume on Spider-Man without making Peter look like a fucking moron. Obviously they just decided to have the symbiote meld with the existing costume, changing only the color and not the design, because it makes a lot more sense in understanding why Peter accepts the new costume instead of freaking the fuck out. Raimi appreciates and understands the essence of his characters -- its much more important to tell a logical story and get Peter's character right than to try to squeeze in a costume design that only fanboys will appreciate in a way that will make the majority of the viewing audience roll their eyes.

by Doctor_Sin
The suit is badass - admit it. Just give in to your excited nerdiness and get jazzed - 'cos you know you want this.

"Spidey 2 sucked, so why care about 3?" Which then begs the question, "Why follow a link to an article on 3 and bitch about it?"
-
Fuzzy, but here it is www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7FKI8yYUDk
-
yeah, it looks like the guy puts down the camera/phone at the end, but don't worry he puts it back up for the final (albeit fuzzy as hell) shot of venom..... hey, it's better than nothing.

Seriously, it's not some dumbass thing i've made myself.

...Is if Raimi goes into full-on HORROR MOVIE mode with Venom. If he's just a combination of the T-1000 and an Aliens xenomorph (which is exactly what Venom is) then he'll just suck. If he's a real monster that KILLS PEOPLE, then we're in business.
-
Does anyone have any info, links, or pics, of the Venom footage from Comicon? Are we suppose to wait a year to see VEnom just because we didnt go to Comicon?
-
The T-1000 and Alien mix would be awesome! They both killed people, so where's the problem?

Spiderman's suit... and Raimi's "mask off" habit..
by stlfilmwire
The guy can't afford to pay rent at a crappy little place. Can someone please explain to me how he can afford a custom fitted spidey suit with all that crazy webbing... and repair it after every battle. I also get tired of Raimi having Spidey always take his mask off. Sure, it allows the audience to see Tobey's face, but Christ... he's taking that mask off way too often.
-
and I mean that raised webbing on his costume... not the organic stuff that shoots out of his wrists.
-
Quit asking about the EVIL DEAD remake. Ask about the EVIL DEAD "sequel". We all want to see an EVIL DEAD remake produced by Sam Raimi about as much as we want to see BOOGEYMAN II produced by Sam Raimi. EVIL DEAD 4 "directed" by Sam Raimi is what we really want, and that is what we should really be pushing for. Spread the word. The more people ask about the EVIL DEAD remake, the more Sam will think there is a demand for one.
-
Agreed...that shit has got to stop!

Removed at the request of Sony.

Spiderman's suit... and Raimi's "mask off" habit..
by emeraldboy
The End of Spiderman2, was done in conjunction with Marvel Comics to pin point a decision that Marvel made sometime ago. They had a press conference about six months ago to announce what we already knew. that Peter Parker was Spiderman and to announce the date of the comic book series which gave away his identity.
-
http://tinyurl.com/ojbxv . . http://tinyurl.com/l8u7j its the best i could get from the poor copies of the footage

"Some clever bastard snuck a video camera into the sneak-preview of Spider-Man at ComicCon, providing the first look at the film outside of the long teaser trailer and constant influx of pictures from fans and the studio. Unfortunately, they didn't fix the focus at all, making it a blurry mess. I'm told you can see Venom somewhere. I'm assuming that's the black smudge that sometimes slides across the video. Judging from the guy's voice at the end of the clip, it must have looked pretty good. There's not much that makes creepy bootlegger guy say "whoa." Seriously, only watch this if you're the kind of person who's been willing to watch hours of unpaid-for Cinemax hunting for a nipple in the static. It's the top video on the page." See footage here: http://www.iwatchstuff.com/

Is there ANYTHING coming to theaters that is as cool as this movie? I heard Superman Returns pretty much bit. X3 SUUUUCKED. What the hell is out there to hold me over until Spider-Man 3 comes out???? The Hobbit this Winter? Nope.
-
Carnage came after Larson left. I believe the artist that did him was Bagley. I'm 99.999% sure of this. Larson to me ruined Venom. McFarlane's Venom rocked. Really creepy and wicked.
-
"a very real amount of humanity to the role of Sandman. He's not just your typical villain in this movie." That's what they say about every villain.
-
Spidey unmasked in Civil War makes some points****1. Spidey in Civil War unmasking: Makes no sense for the character. Its ridiculous. He would be the very last one unmasked. And once he IS unmasked, why bother putting the mask back on? you ever wear a balaclava in the summer? **** 2. The Symbiote is from outer space in the movie? honestly, its kind of too bad. it could just have easily been another lab accident where a sentient goo got created. Venom symbiot doesnt NEED to be from outer space - he just is because it all started in Secret Wars. People may find the cosmic angle a bit distracting and reject it in theatres - which would be a shame. 3. I agree with the decision to keep the suit the same but change the color for the reasons said by someone else above.
-
yeah...everybody says that their villains are more human and atypical of other villains. whatever happened to the Snidely Whiplash types, you know? the ones who are very clearly evil and are so on purpose, not b/c of a tortured past or something like that. that's why i dig Hannibal Lecter - he's evil, he knows it, he loves it and he can't and won't be redeemed.
