Robotman!! Elasti-Girl!! Negative Man!! Niles Caulder!! THE DOOM PATROL Headed To The Big Screen??

I am – Hercules!!

The Doom Patrol, DC’s freakish “X-Men”-like comic-book super-team - which rivals even the Justice Society and the Justice League in its ability to make Herc’s heart swell two sizes too large - could be coming to the movie screens.

Warner Bros. has hired somebody named Adam Turner to pen a screenplay.

But who would manifest the perfect miniskirted Rita “Elasti-Girl” Farr? Should Michelle Monaghan, Natalie Portman or Anne Hathaway be hired to crush autos with red boots the size of submarines??

Read Variety’s story on this matter here.

Don't judge me - you can tell I was pissed.

    by Proman1984

Anyway, I'm getting tired of all the superhero flicks. I'd rather see a Lupin III or Tintin live action movie.

I doubt Natalie Portman would do a role like that...

    by Orionsangels

It's beneath her, get it? beneath her, elasti girl is tall and... ok i thought it was funny.

  • July 20, 2006, 1:23 a.m. CST

    Green Lantern

    by EnlightenedOne

fuck trying to capitalize on X-Men's success, not gonna happen stupid fucking suit who decided this was a good idea. The comic barely sells, and it was only ever great when Morrison was on it, focus on a franchise that has potential like Green Lantern.

  • July 20, 2006, 1:26 a.m. CST

    Eat it, Haters.....

    by Psynapse

I'm with Herc, Doom Patrol has ALWAYS rocked.

    Watchmen. Fuck Doom Patrol.

    by Veraxus

I want my goddamn Watchmen directed by Darren Aronofsky, goddammit. Now that The Fountain is done, there's no more excuses!

  • July 20, 2006, 1:43 a.m. CST

    Are They Even Gonna Try...

    by buster00

...to call Rita "Elasti-Girl"? Sure, DC owns the name (as far as I know), but people will accuse them of ripping off "The Incredibles." In any case, I sure didn't see a "Doom Patrol" movie comin'. Seems like there are other comics they should be translating for the big screen if this trend is going to continue.

  • July 20, 2006, 1:48 a.m. CST

    What about Beast Boy?

    by GermanCity

    Well? What about'm?

  • July 20, 2006, 1:49 a.m. CST

    Great news...

    by DarqueGuy

Doom Patrol is one of my two "wanna see" comic book movies, along with the Question. Let's have William Atherton as the Chief, Bruce Campbell as Cliff Steele, Michelle Monaghan as Elasti-Girl, Sam Rockwell as Negative Man and Armin Shimmerman as General Immortus.

  • July 20, 2006, 1:55 a.m. CST

They better fucking do Morrison's DP.

    by Bachalon

We already saw them on the last season of "Teen Titans." They totally skimped on the Brain/Mallah pairing. And where was the Brotherhood of Dada? Fuck all this "classic" bullshit. SHAKE THINGS UP!

  • July 20, 2006, 1:57 a.m. CST

WTF! Anne Hathaway??? u said Natalie Portman originally

    by Orionsangels

bastard changed it on us. Anne Hathaway is gross! she's always bruised - http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/8945/originalpostki0.jpg

    Second on HBO miniseries

    by IncompetentNinja

In fact, I think the X-Men would have been better served in a high budget TV series as well. A 2 hour movie just doesn't have room to develope all the characters in a "team" based comic.

Hulk to return to big Screen.

    by emeraldboy

The Director of the Incredible Hulk is Louis Leterrier, whose film credits include Unleashed, Transporter and transporter 2, writer is Zak Penn, who wrote. In the movie they are bringing hulk back to his roots. This is good news for those who want an action hulk smashathon and bad news for those who hate Zak penn and want a interesting style of movie. this movie reeks of commerciality. Casting will begin soon....

    New Doom Patrol

    by sayanything9

I would much prefer the new Doom Patrol series from a couple of years ago.A great comic and very funny (speaking of funny comics that should be turned into dilms, where the fuck is DEADPOOL)The only danger being that they turn it onto something along the lines of the FF movie

  • July 20, 2006, 4:17 a.m. CST

    Zak penn wrote

    by emeraldboy

x-men the last stand. Now hes writing The Incredible Hulk 2 movie and he is a raving Marvel Fan. I suppose depends about where you stand. Some liked Ang lees movie and some didnt. Some want a smashathon and some dont.

I only hope it's a semi-period piece (instead of the upcoming Casino Royale abortion) and cast Anne Hathaway! No one would look as good as she in that outfit!

Negative who? Big screen? No one told me...

    by Negative Man

I best call my entertainment lawyer! The Chief actually took out copyrights on all our code names, that rolling bastard! He best give us a fair cut or else I'm making his cat bald!

  • July 20, 2006, 5:47 a.m. CST

Ang Lees Hulk was the best comic adaptation

    by zekmoe

I still can't believe it didn't win some awards. Years later, it still playes the best as a complete movie, and is the most comic like in feel.

    ONLY if...

    by Kid Z

... it's the surrealistic, Grant Morrison-in-his-drug addled-stage version from the early 0s! My only concern is who should play Flex Mentallo. Muscle Mystery Power!!!

  • July 20, 2006, 9:18 a.m. CST

Johnny Depp would have been perfect for Rebis

    by SpyGuy

Robotman needs to be CGI or physically performed by Doug Jones, but voiced by Bobby DeNiro or Ron Perlman. For Negative Man, I'm thinking Ben Browder from FARSCAPE, even though he really should be Green Lantern. And Elasti-Girl? I dunno, Kate Beckinsale? As for the Chief, it's too bad Sean Connery retired (at least, I think he retired), so how about William Petersen from CSI?

  • July 20, 2006, 9:47 a.m. CST

    jeez,

    by blackthought

everything would be better as an hbo miniseries...even this talkback. they might as well add that to every news item dealing with comics..."but we all know it'd be better as an hbo miniseries or series"

  • July 20, 2006, 10:10 a.m. CST

"will be produced by AKIVA GOLDSMAN"

    Doomed indeed.

    "

    by Jar Jar 4 Prez

Nobody has pointed out yet that it's actually the X-men that are a Doom Patrol-like super-team? I mean, Jesus, get it right Herc! It's funny that people think that you guys know jack shit.

  • July 20, 2006, 10:17 a.m. CST

    "Grant Morrison-in-his-drug addled-stage"

    by Jar Jar 4 Prez

    Uh... stage?

  • July 20, 2006, 10:19 a.m. CST

Leave Flex Mentallo the fuck alone.

    by Jar Jar 4 Prez

It can't be done by Hollywood. We don't need the castrated version of Flex, we already have the comics.

  • July 20, 2006, 10:29 a.m. CST

    For some reason...

    by Childe Roland

...I think Doom Patrol could be adapted excellently to the big screen. It just doesn't seem steeped in the same nitpicky continuity baggage and giant expectations that its other DC counterparts (Batman and Superman, particularly) carry. I mean, continuity on the book itself is a mess anyway, so why not introduce these characters (I'd prefer the original lineup, but I'm not a stickler) as if they were just made up for the film and see what happens?

  • July 20, 2006, 10:56 a.m. CST

Yeah, make this, don't bother with a JLA movie

    by modlight

Everyone knows Robotman and Elastigirl. No one has ever heard of Batman, Superman, the Flash and Wonderwoman... wouldn't make a dime.

  • July 20, 2006, 11:04 a.m. CST

Herc, staty the fuck away from here

    by Engineer_at_peac

Get back in co-axial. You have no business anywhere else on the site, and do not deserve to be allowed anywhere else. Back in your fucking cage!

  • July 20, 2006, 11:31 a.m. CST

    The bigger news...

    by Spaz_Monkey

... is that Del Toro will be making "Deadman" into a movie! If there's anyone who'll get the mystical story of Boston Brand and Rama Kushna on screen the right way, it'll be G del T

  • July 20, 2006, 11:52 a.m. CST

Jar Jar (Dude, you need a better nom de guerre!)...

    by Kid Z

... Anyway, Grant's supposed to be on the wagon now... he's just a bizarre dude. But some'a that stuff from his druggy years was totally wacked! (Like Flight 19 being trapped inside a haunted fork, "the Men in Mauve," Danny the Street, Willoughby Kipling, the drunken Knight Templar mystic... etc.)

  • July 20, 2006, 12:31 p.m. CST

    Meh...

    by MondoGundark

I'd rather see a full-blown (and better fleshed out) realization of Frank Miller and Geof Darrow's "Hard Boiled", or "Give Me Liberty".... or, or Mike Allred's "Madman".
