Apple.com Conjures Up A Trailer For THE PRESTIGE!!
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
What can I say? Christopher Nolan continues to impress, and this looks like one of the coolest films of the year just based on this first peek at it.
Can’t. Wait.
"Moriarty" out.

This will rock.

Sweet
-
I agree, Moriarty. Can't. Wait.
-
intergalactic spectacular
-
Though I'm surprised they didnt reveal the full extent of the awesome cast. Sure, they show Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson... but this film also has David Bowie and Andy Serkis. Nolan knows how to put together a great ensemble.
-
I wonder how many executives shat themselves when the idea for this one got pitched ?
"Oh, right, so then it's the car chase and the bullet-time shoot out ? No ? I don -
One suspects that if not for Strange and Norrell this book would not be given the film treatment. The fact that it's Nolan is reassuring, but still ...
-
...but love the subject matter.
-
That was an awesome trailer. And Scarlet. There. Mmmmmm
-
Strange and Norrell and Prestige use the same premise but the difference is in Prestige the magicians are illusionists where in Clark's book the magicians are wizards who really can perform magic.
One's a drama, the other a fantasy. -
Anybody else getting an "Error 47: Invalid URL." or is it just me? Fantastic trailer by the way!!! Can't wait!
-
I've enjoyed and/or loved all of Nolan's flicks, I love the cast and I hope this is pulled off. Judging by the trailer, the story's been messed with a bit, but we'll see how it goes.
-
someone hook it up with some linkage. the shit won't load in my shitty IE shit. oh, and the book is great. read it if you haven't. the ET footage tells me that they've fiddled with a lot of things, but it would be damn near impossible to make a direct book-to-film translation with this one.. so we'll see what happens. i'm still looking forward to it. oh, and the direct link.
-
Anyone know when both movies are scheduled to come out? And whatever happened to "Smoke & Mirrors" that I think had Michael Douglas and Katherine Zeta Jones attached?
-
What's it called? I already forgot. This looks great.
-
But Nolan is one of these directors who know what they do, so I will keep an exe on it. But this first trailer gives me nothing.
-
But the Prestige has been out since, what, 1988? And then Strange and Norrell comes out and is a big hit and all of a sudden a Prestige film is greenlit? Despite the differences, this is how film execs think. Again, the fact that they seem to be actually trying to make a good film (hiring Nolan, going with A-list actors) makes me feel better about it, but I just fear that the execs may screw this up yet.
-
Why is he speaking with an American accent? His character is supposed to be British, isn't he? Presumably, the second son of an aristocrat, since Bale sounds lower class.
-
Are they making a movie of that book?! That would be awesome!
-
compared to the 25 minutes of a scanner darkly i just watched online it's bizarre and cutting edge.
-
How exactly are Strange and Norrel and the Prestige similar? Besides the fact that both of them have competing magicians? That
-
Both movie look crap.
-
This will be the best movie ever!
-
This looks much more intriguing!
-
Fucking awesome.
-
Resplendit.
-
I will definitely see this movie. Now that Chris Nolan is done with this...Batman sequel anyone?
-
Where did you see footage? Put the link in this tb?
-
Looks pretty cool though, now can they start on Batman Begins 2?
-
The main characters were not friends at any point! They're so distorting the book if they make these guys friends at the start. They loathed each other from the getgo. i think they have the casting backward too.
-
compared to this! chris nolan, bringing it home yet again. and hey hey hey, what's a magic movie without ricky jay?
-
actor & director of Bale & Nolan. I can happily see them keeping making sweet flicks together for years. Let the Brits go and make magic ;) (no pun intended haha)
-
will own this movie.
-
Tought that had been optioned some time ago. Like Prestige and Illusionist, but with the respectable gleam of "Historical Fiction". I agree, time for Nolan to hire Paul Bettany for the the Joker and get to work on Batman Continues To Begin.
-
I haven't been this excited for a movie since, well, "Batman Begins."
-
christopher nolan is like bryan singer but with more consistency, a wider array of talent, and an intelligence usually not befitting of a studio based filmmaker. oh and please stop with that bettany for the joker routine. he would be interesting but he brings too much baggage to the role. i would much rather see christopher eccleston or even sam rockwell take it on. if you are wondering sam rockwell? take a look at all his work, he could pull it off especially under the supervision of nolan. oh yeah, almost forgot, that trailer is quite impressive. looking forward to this flick. glad he didn't reveal all his secrets in this trailer.
-
The movie looks good. I didn't read the book but I don't need to to see that Bowie as Tesla SUCKS! He doesn't even look like him and Tesla wasn't that old then was he? Andy Serkis is suppose to play Bowie/Tesla's assistant. The light bulbs in the ground is suppose to a Tesla Colorado experiment. When is someone going to make a true Tesla movie? I like the rest of the cast and the director. I think it'll be great.
-
The tricks in the trailer look badass but they'll really woo me if one of them can Scarlett Jo dissapear. Bitch gets on me nerves!
-
go to ign.com click on "scanner exclusive" to watch the first quarter of the flick. you have to put in your birthday first though. because it's uncensored.
-
Now I desperatly want to see this thing. David Bowie even looks Normal-ish...
-
Once I heard that they were making this movie, I ran out to get the book since I'd heard that it was truly excellent. I'll say this, the movie does look awesome. This was an excellent trailer, just the right level of information to entice the viewer, but little enough not to spoil all the cool stuff.
Someone above mentioned that it looked as though a few (pretty integral) things had been changed from the book, and all I can say is good. Though the novel contained a LOT of really neat ideas, and the intrigue was brilliant, the ending was, in my opinion, a MAJOR letdown. It's one of those endings where the author just sort of stopped writing rather than finishing the story. I know a lot of people really like this sort of ending, claiming that "It leaves the reader with something to think about." I personally think it's a really lazy way to write, and come off as though your work was intended to be thought provoking. So I desperately hope that they changed the ending of the story to make it a little less of a "What the fuck?" moment. -
but isn't there already a movie about rival magicians coming out this year? the one with edward norton? hollywood's like waiting for a damn bus: nothing for ages, then two come along at once.
-
with andy serkis playing his assistant... who couldnt be excited for that?
-
This is pretty conventional stuff as far as trailers go, but it gets the job done. And no, THE PRESTIGE is not the same as JONATHAN STRANGE AND MR. NORRELL, unless you think the Napoleonic wars took place at the turn of the 20th century. Oh, and that stage magic is real and involves fairies and stuff. I'd be happy to see good movies of both.
-
Well, considering sort of the irony of the trajectory path each of their careers have since taken from the movie, did anyone else find Thora Birch to be frankly just as hot (if perhaps in a different way) as Scarlett was in "GHOST WORLD"? Maybe just how I can especially appreciate a gal with some meat on her bones, but I thought Thora was WAY cute and sexy in that flick. It just kinda cracks me up that since Scarlett has been the one considered totally the sexpot.
-
Looking back, I think I committed about nine errors of poor syntax in that above post, oye... I should be ashamed of myself, and to think English was always my best subject.
-
she was way hot! BTW According to wikipedia her mom was a porno star. Oh Yeah!
-
The Illusionist is not even in The Prestiges' league.
-
woooowooooo

-
wow...looks killer...can't wait for this one...CN is starting to be a director to really watch out for..bravo!
-
Totally agree. The book was good until like the last three pages, and I couldn't figure out how it was all going to be explained in that few pages. Turns out, it wasn't. It was literally like the author just stopped writing. Hopefully the film doesn't seem like the director just stopped filming.
-
Doesn't seem to be working. :/
-
Now that's what I call a trailer. Enticing enough w/o giving away too much... What's the deal with the painted David Bowie shock scene? (After the "my life is about secrets"[or something line?)
-
Now THAT's a movie I'd rather see. Hocus-pocus is borrring. *yawn*
-
i wonder if they're going to keep 30% alfred in. i dig it all the way, but some people may not buy that part of the story.
-
This does look intriguing. I've been waiting to see what this looks like as the premise sounds awesome especially when paired with the actors and director. Can't wait! Memento is one of my fav films of this decade and I hoped that Nolan would continue to be an exciting film-maker. After Batman Begins I was pleased. Looks like this will be enjoyable also, which is funny as the area of magic and illusions are things I don't really find interesting at all.
-
Since American Beauty and Ghost World I thought Thora Birch was hot albeit in a different way to Scarlett. Now while I always (and still) find Scarlett more attractive, I do miss Thora. Now she may be a total diva and/or bitch in person (who knows?) but she always came across as down to earth and had a real, non-Hollywood look and body, which I liked. Just my thoughts...
-
"Now she *COULD* be a total diva and/or bitch in person..." That's what I meant to write. Darn lazy grammar of mine!
-
in the floor as far as the eye could see was a superb visual! Wally Pfister got a nice sepia thing going on, never heard of the book but this looks good with a quality cast and best british director alive ( sam mendes number 2).
-
"I recently read Jonathan Nolan's screenplay adaptation of the book, and although I read it in confidence I can safely say that it is an extraordinary and brilliant script. If Chris Nolan does go ahead and make The Prestige, I have no hesitation in predicting it will be his finest movie since Memento. I hope that whets the appetite of Mr Nolan's many admirers, as it whets mine!" - Christopher Priest, September 2005

It really IS possible to have a movie trailer get consistantly positive reviews on an AICN TB. The movie looks great. Though I wouldn't want it to be too successful since I'd rather have Nolan working hard to roll out 10 Batmans in succession.
-
they do show david bowie in that trailer. look again.
and the script does not butcher the book. but it does (as all scripts must) thin it down. but the script is amazing. -
strange & norrell weren't even brought up
-
This looks like a really cool movie.
