Smoooooth!! RENO 911!: MIAMI "Trailer" Hits The Internets!!

When I first heard about RENO 911!, I sincerely doubted the series would work. Mockumentaries are tricky to execute as theatrical one-offs - the idea of realizing the genre on a regular, weekly basis seemed the height of folly to me (although, I suppose it's really more of a riff on "reality" shows).

But it proved me wrong. The series has enjoyed a reasonable amount of success and is surprisingly consistent; I like it. And, early next year, the concept is being ported to theaters - which also seems like a bad idea at face value. But, if they did it once, maybe they can do it again? Theoretically, of course.

On YouTube, you can now find an early look at material from the film. It'll seem kind of familiar to you, I think.

Click the little "PLAY" arrow at the bottom of the viewing pane to behold the majesty!

LOVE the quick shot of the alligator eating someone's head in the pool!!! RENO 911!: MIAMI will storm theaters 'round January!

    by mocky_puppet

so the guy in Reno who recently cracked and decided that shooting a judge would solve his domestic problems, horrible story, but a part of me started imaging the reno:911 guys bumping into each other trying to solve the case. okay, i guess that makes me a bad person. good to know.

    by badmrwonka

episode is hilarious. so even a mediocre movie is going to be full of laughs, even if the plot is lame or it's uneven, or etc. etc. it will still be hilarious. it's the guys from The State, for christ sake!

I also didn't give this show a chance, until my brother made me watch it, and now it's one of my favorite shows in the history of TV. The characters have become so well-defined, they're like old friends. And the supporting cast! Terry the gay prostitute on rollerskates kills me every time he's on camera. Let's be careful out there, people!

    The State reuinites!

    by poacher

Looking at the cast list for this flick and the best part is that pretty much everyone from The State is in it, with the exception of Ken "I wanna dip my balls in it" Marino, but he was in the series for a while so it might be hard to bring him back.

The best part of that entire movie is the first 15 minutes, after that it's just "okay". Reno 911 is much more funny because it's consistently funny.

    by renholder

Reno 911 is on another level of awesomeness compared to Super Troopers. I have tried to watch that film every time that it is on Comedy Central and I always turn it off after a few minutes. It turns out a couple of funny scenes don't amount to much for me...

    by ky-el

Super Troopers IS funny. RENO is funny in a pretentious sort of way. Super Troopers has suttle humor as well as straight forward fun-dumb humor.

How can you not find the "Large Farva" scene hilarious?

    by slappy jones

broken lizard seem to think that not being funny makes them funny.
their films seem to all be based on their on private in-jokes and that if anything is far more pretentious than anything on reno 911...

    by cletus van damme

After those 2 officers get locked in the semi trailer for a few hours and Ram opens the door and says, "Stinks like sex in here," that's funnier than 85% of the other crap out there.

Are you guys fuckin insane? Don't tell me you didn't think the 'i dont want a large farva i want a litre of coke' funny? And the 'it's powdered sugar farva, keeps away the lice' 'it's delicious' ... the maple syrup chugging, the stoners, the dead hooker, the drunk farva, the swedish foreigners, rammathorn, chicken fucker, man I've seen that movie a hundred times and it's hilarious everytime. I've seen reno 911.. and it just looks like a 'cops' parody, very boring. YOU CANT BEAT FARVA! 'Farva, suspension continued' 'I got you good you fucker'

    by mrboinfoint

However, none of Broken Lizard's other stuff has even been mildly diverting. And I didn't actually like the State, and despised Viva Variety, but I love Reno 911. I think it will actually work as a movie. And the play on the Miami Vice trailer was genius.

That might be one of the funniest jokes I ever saw on TV. Those guys are great at what they do and some of the best improvers/adlibbers I've ever seen. Oh, and Super Troopers isn't half as funny as Reno 911.

Gotta agree: Reno > Super Troopers

    by giggitygoo

I remember a couple of laughs during Super Troopers, but it didn't hold up. I know a lot of people love it, but it just didn't trip my trigger. Reno, on the other hand, consistently cracks me up. The episode where Junior takes the little kids on the tour of the jailhouse, and proceeds to relate the violent and sexual acts performed in the various cells... That entire sequence brought tears of laughter to my eyes. Imagine the Phil Hartman "Vicky" scene from "So I Married An Axe Murderer", but taken to NC-17 levels. Now I have FOUR great comedies to look forward to over the coming months: Clerks 2, Jackass 2 (so sue me, I love those guys), Borat, and Reno. Yay!

    Super Troopers was funny.

    by fiester

But Club Dread or whatever it was called was fucking terrible. At least there were a few titties in it, but it was not funny at all. And I don't think Reno 911 and Super Troopers are similar at all. Just because they're both cops, so what? They're much different shows. As different as Scrubs is from Green Wing. Yeah, they both take place in hospitals, but they are totally different shows. Don't mistake a common setting for a blatant copycat ripoff.

    Snakes>Reno>Super Troopers

    by darth evil dead

I thought of this for a long time...And based on thousands of surveys I did..I have concluded that Snakes on a Plane is better then Reno, witch is better then Super Troopers... This is final.. It proves without a shadow of a doubt that Snakes on a Plane is better then any movie ever created by the grace of God.

    Saw it

    by le singe

There was a screening in Long Beach last month. I had my doubts if the show could last over the length of a movie (the cut I saw was hardly over an hour). Rest easy, the movie is HILARIOUS. If you like the show, then you'll love the movie. There's a long tracking shot of all the characters in their hotel rooms that will KILL you. The audience ate it up, even the people that had never seen it (there were a few sitting next to my friend and he overheard them after the movie). The beached whale scene is fucking awesome. Terry is awesome. The cameos are awesome. One of the best screenings I've ever been to.
