RENAISSANCE... it's like SIN CITY - without the grey tones. Take a look, this looks Amazing!
Hey folks, Harry here... Wanna see something super fucking cool looking? Check out this:
This Isn't Any RENAISSANCE That I've Ever Seen Before!!!
If that didn't work, try this one!
or this one
or this one in French
Ok - A quick trip to IMDB edumacates me to the fact that the Weinstein-less MIRAMAX has picked this French Animated-ish film up, and that it is having American dub voices by Daniel Craig, Jonathan Pryce, Ian Holm, Catherine McCormack - amongst others. It's the first feature from Christian Volckman. Over a decade ago, Volckman was the incredibly promising director of a short film called MAAZ that absolutely was stunning as hell. Winning over 30 festival prizes world wide. This, again, is his first feature. Check out this interview that CinEuropa.org did with Christian to get a gauge on who we're dealing with here. It has a limited release on September 22nd. Hope I get to see it!

looks alright
-
Can't wait to see it. Maaz!
-
American dub voices by Daniel Craig, Jonathan Pryce, Ian Holm, Catherine McCormack? They're all Brits...
-
Unless it was a name. But whatever.
-
Just saying. It's on at the local independent. There were posters up all over the street. It also got really poor reviews and I lost interest. "All style no substance" was the majority view. Also the style was apparently not up there with other similer movies.

It does look good - but kinda reminded me of a B&W Broken Sword. Maybe it was the music -
is it me?
'Christian Volckman stole that kids sneakers!' -
that crappy old spiderman animated show they had on mtv a while back. i'm sorry but am i the only one who's not all that impressed?
-
It should be set in Los Angeles or Rome. The plastic capitols of the world. This looks very cool though.

Been online for a while now. I wasn't as impressed as you guys seem to be. -
better music, no talking, no closeups of the characters acting. no revealing information about the goofy high-concept plot. but it looks like a super good movie!
-
except with boring French people. If Hollywood remakes Death Note they should use the same technology. But no CGI for actors, please.
-
but right now, I'm missing the grey tones. By the by, I think either spelling is appropriate.
-
That looks like the computer animated Spiderman cartoon that played on MTV several years ago except in black and white. I saw the French version of the trailer cause the other links weren't working...and found the French dub annoying!!! All in all...I'd say this turkey is going nowhere!!! As for Sin City, it had a great look, but no meat between the sandwich. I find that to be the case of all Robert Rodriguez films...there's no there, there!!!...Or in the case of Sin City, just alot of frosting and no cake!!! Either way, we were all ripped off!!!
-
It's like the game XIII 'cept black and white and pretenscious.
-
But without the grey tones sure, but I had hoped it was going to be like Sin City without all the boring crap. But I guess that's not in the cards really. btw what cinema is it playing at Lutz? the dendy?
-
is what I wanted it to look like.
-
Then this movie would of never got the green light... It just Hollywood coping itself again.

If it's like "Sin City", does it mean it too is shitty?
by jackpumpkinhead
Hur hur hur! (The name: Bender!)
-
Thanks for playing.
-
Because as far as I'm concerned there are no such words as 'got' or especially "gotten" (yes I know what the dictionary says). Besides which, this film has been around much longer than the Sin City movie, even if that IS why it's getting a release over here. Check your facts, EvilDead. Oh. What am I saying - why would you when you couldn't even be arsed with a coherent sentence?! Do I get a prize for working it out? Just kidding. Just saying you were wrong about the green light though.
-
The way light and shadow define each frame is realy quite compelling. I'm a huge fan of high contrast artwork, and seeing it in animated form is great. This is exactly how Sin City should have looked, I could not agree more, the gray tones and manic editing killed Sin City, so here is to hoping we see a NOIR film that is paced and cut in a more classic noir style. I'm excited to see this.
-
And Doogal was flat-out horrible and pointless. Sub made-for-TV quality. I'm still waiting to watch this trailer, but, jeeze. I don't have high hopes. Does it say "From the Studio that Brought You Doogal" or, possibly, "From the Studio that Made You Puke on Your Shoes"?
If Elijah Wood plays a quasi-super-powered mute ninja cannibal that eats Doogal and all his perky friends, I might go and see it. -
or do I not know what my terms mean.
-
It looks like the English was first...they dubbed it in french. When you watch the trail the mouths match the english, but not the french.
-
this movie looks like ultraviolet though. which is very bad. It'd be kick ass if they shot a sin city segment or movie on film using black and white reversal film. poops
-
really lost its way somewhere in the middle. too monotonous.
-
I think they dropped the ball by making it CG actors. For a second I thought it was rotoscoped or whatever they call that but it doesn't seem to be.
-
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
Dude, this does NOT look good at ALL! The animation makes me want to go get gonnorhea!
-
Now every movie will be doing this crappy "A Scanner Darkly" cel-painting shit, just like every movie did the bullet-time after the matrix came out. Cunts.
-
I hate foreign films where the mouths and the voices are all out of sync. Also, some of the cnematography was too dark. It's obviously TOO SOON for Dogme 95 to hit the animation scene.

In Lygon st Carlton. http://au.movies.yahoo.com/Screening+Times/cinemas/?rg=00301&sa=0#20725

Alors! It does look like that MTV Spiderman product... but I would have liked that thing if he'd had some real villians to fight, instead of a bunch of fakey made-up villians with Road Rules personalities

What a piece of A-sexual garbage. All of Robert Rodriguez' and Quentin Taratino's films have one thing in common. They are all
A-sexual exercises in hyper real violence and brutality, without purpose, well, save for the personal twisted pleasure of these two out of control film makers...if you can even call them film makers anymore!!! There was no point to Sin City, but one excuse after another to find a reason to abuse somebody...but with great visuals to back it up!!! It's beyond me, to try and figure out why anybody would want to try to copy such trash!!! Rodriguez and Taratino seem to have a deep seeded anger not only toward woman, but men. The kind that would make a practicing sadomasochist say..."Hey...don't you guys think you should calm down? Aren't things starting to get a little weird and too violent here? Have you guys ever thought about getting off drugs? No, seriously, you really need some mental help!!! I'm calling the police!!!...Wait!!!...Put down the axe!!!" -
Sorry for misspelling Tarantino's name in my last post, but considering all his poor film efforts since "Pulp Fiction", he's lucky I'm not calling him Alan Smithee!!!
-
..........looks like a smoking black and white turd to me.
-
I liked Sin City. It's funny when you say "Rodriguez and Taratino seem to have a deep seeded anger not only toward woman, but men." Ahhh! do you mean everybody. Men and women I think are the only ones here on planet Earth. What else is there? It's just a movie intended for adult audiences. Not 8 year olds. The directors can't help it that stupid fuck parents take their kids to see violent/sexual shit they are are suppose to watch.I find any movie regarding wars and conflict way more disturbing because they are portraying the real world. A broken down world consisting of a loser dominant species. Comic book shit is fantasy.
-
...of the big boss sitting in the glass office in the arc! Very vulnerable, though...
-
I'll admit both filmakers have a slightly juvenile bent to their work, Rodriguez seems to just enjoy playing in the sandbox. While Tarantino seems neurotically self absorbed. Neither has mad a decent film in years. Tarantino's made 2 decent films Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown. The last third of Sin City was good, and Rourkes "Marv" wasn't bad, but it can't make up for the rest of the film. If Rodriguez became a hired gun with good scripts he could be great. Tarantino's one trick pony act of reguritating crappy genre films is getting tired.
-
I agree with most of your observations, but why the omission of Pulp Fiction? Everybody-and-their-momma liking a film can be a turn-off, but sometimes a popular thing IS a good thing, like in the case of PF.
-
And it isn't very good. some Impressive visual moments and ideas. Piss poor dialog and character development. -Don't bother people.
-
...but somehow, it just doesn't do it for me. The trailer left me completely cold. I think it's the robotic CG characters - really, if you can't animate something properly, why not just use real actors? These puppets completely wrecked my immersion.
-
Please don't visit it. It has pictures of little boys in underwear. Don't support it.
-
...at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival. And it is a visual stunning film. Very enjoyable and in production well before Sin City. Disney pre-purchased the film based on the scrip and funded 30% of the film. It IS a stunning film and you have to check it out as soon as possible.
Check this article for some nice background on the film: http://tinyurl.com/nkwo6 -
Nice one ginge.
-
Stick that in your marketing campaign. Because it did...
-
Dont tell em its french or give links to other language versions than english. The guys name couldve past for German... That way the art will stand on its own for some of them ;P.
-
kind of like Aeon meets Sin in B&W... Is it just me or does anyone else hate black and white films? The only good recent one was Clerks, and even that looked like shit.
-
Sure its pretty, but its also a fart.
-
this is totally how Aeon Flux should have looked, visually stunning can't wait to see this.
-
Who the fuck does this guy think he is?!
-
Looks like shite to me.
-
or does this remind anybody else of the work of James Steranko? I keep thinking this guy could make an awesome S.H.I.E.L.D. movie with this technique. Anyone?
-
B&W is only fun for so long, then it starts to fukin hurt the eyes.
next... -
...very edgy, an interesting blend of animation and Sin City-esque style (probably a more technical name for it, but what do I know?). If this plays in my area, I will see it.
-
It's ALL black and white no greys (or grays if you prefer) at all. Like pen and ink with no shading. Looks very interesting visually but, the story's the thing yeah? I don't understand the predisposed hate though. Two films *(Scanner Darkly) do not = "The New Era of Roto-Scoping Hollywood. *** And you do got big balls (and a small brain) if you think: "...Sin City was a HUGE piece of shit. HUUUUUUUUGE piece of shit!!!"
-
What is the point of this ultra-realistic animation? Is it some sort of rotascoping? Or is it just cell shading combined over actual footage or motion-captured footage? I mean isn't the point of animation to allow unhindered imagination? I think it looked very underwhelming, mildly cool, maybe a rental. But Jesus Harry, your excitement is predictable to the point of silly.
-
Where did all this random Sin City bashing come from? "No meat between the sandwich" and "boring"? Are u guys nuts? Sin City was depicted absolutely perfectly. If you didnt like the movies then u must not be a fan of the comic therefore shouldnt be commenting, period, on it. BTW this movie looks like crap, ripping off Sin's background ideas and contrasts with shitty looking characters look about as stiff and rigid as the pole up Junior Frengers ass. And Junior...Tarintino has only made 2 good films...Dogs and Jackie Brown? Are u retarded? Pulp Fiction?...No? I guess ur one of those "Im too cool to like anything gone mainstream to keep my pretentious cred alive" jerkoffs. Over n' out.
-
Obviously all black and white = no gray, unless you squint and shake your head back and forth. *** My first reation was that it looked like a live action Paul Gulacy comic, so good call on the Steranko comparison, since he was Gulacy;s major influence (and harshest critic). i think if you buy a ticket you can comment on a comic book movie even if you're not a fan of the comic. But you're missing the main point of what makes a film like Sin City brilliant: the faithful adaptation of the source material. It was long, mysoggynistic and ultra-violent - just like the Frank Miller funnybooks it was based on. I enjoyed it, though I watched it with a poozer who absolutely hated it. *** Quentin is stuck knowing that Pulp Fiction is his Citizen Kane/2001/Psycho - the one movie that raised the bar above where he'll ever reach again. Like that time when you were 18 and you beat off five times in a row. You life will be downhill from there. *** the first link worked fine for me, I don't know what the problem was.
*** The Sears catalog is child porn - it has photos of young people in their underwear. Don't look at it. Seriously, who views kids underwear pictures as erotica other than 12 year olds? -
Hey guys!
I saw this movie at the Annecy Animation Film Festival a few months ago. They had showed us a few tidbits last year and were in comptetion this year for best animation feature film (they won). The look is REALLY AMAZING! The story and script could be better imo,but it's really great to see something with a new look.
Oh and for the scoop: these guys are making the mobvie inspired by the short "9" and produced by Tim Burton.... promising is it not??? ;)
