RENAISSANCE... it's like SIN CITY - without the grey tones. Take a look, this looks Amazing!

Published at:  Jul 05, 2006 6:06:54 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Wanna see something super fucking cool looking? Check out this:

This Isn't Any RENAISSANCE That I've Ever Seen Before!!!

If that didn't work, try this one!

or this one

or this one in French

Ok - A quick trip to IMDB edumacates me to the fact that the Weinstein-less MIRAMAX has picked this French Animated-ish film up, and that it is having American dub voices by Daniel Craig, Jonathan Pryce, Ian Holm, Catherine McCormack - amongst others. It's the first feature from Christian Volckman. Over a decade ago, Volckman was the incredibly promising director of a short film called MAAZ that absolutely was stunning as hell. Winning over 30 festival prizes world wide. This, again, is his first feature. Check out this interview that CinEuropa.org did with Christian to get a gauge on who we're dealing with here. It has a limited release on September 22nd. Hope I get to see it!

Just saying. It's on at the local independent. There were posters up all over the street. It also got really poor reviews and I lost interest. "All style no substance" was the majority view. Also the style was apparently not up there with other similer movies.

    A Computer Animated Mess!!!

    by metalwater

That looks like the computer animated Spiderman cartoon that played on MTV several years ago except in black and white. I saw the French version of the trailer cause the other links weren't working...and found the French dub annoying!!! All in all...I'd say this turkey is going nowhere!!! As for Sin City, it had a great look, but no meat between the sandwich. I find that to be the case of all Robert Rodriguez films...there's no there, there!!!...Or in the case of Sin City, just alot of frosting and no cake!!! Either way, we were all ripped off!!!

    by half vader

Because as far as I'm concerned there are no such words as 'got' or especially "gotten" (yes I know what the dictionary says). Besides which, this film has been around much longer than the Sin City movie, even if that IS why it's getting a release over here. Check your facts, EvilDead. Oh. What am I saying - why would you when you couldn't even be arsed with a coherent sentence?! Do I get a prize for working it out? Just kidding. Just saying you were wrong about the green light though.

    by noeland

The way light and shadow define each frame is realy quite compelling. I'm a huge fan of high contrast artwork, and seeing it in animated form is great. This is exactly how Sin City should have looked, I could not agree more, the gray tones and manic editing killed Sin City, so here is to hoping we see a NOIR film that is paced and cut in a more classic noir style. I'm excited to see this.

    by kevinwillis.net

And Doogal was flat-out horrible and pointless. Sub made-for-TV quality. I'm still waiting to watch this trailer, but, jeeze. I don't have high hopes. Does it say "From the Studio that Brought You Doogal" or, possibly, "From the Studio that Made You Puke on Your Shoes"?

If Elijah Wood plays a quasi-super-powered mute ninja cannibal that eats Doogal and all his perky friends, I might go and see it.

    Sin City, Is A Sin!!!

    by metalwater

What a piece of A-sexual garbage. All of Robert Rodriguez' and Quentin Taratino's films have one thing in common. They are all
A-sexual exercises in hyper real violence and brutality, without purpose, well, save for the personal twisted pleasure of these two out of control film makers...if you can even call them film makers anymore!!! There was no point to Sin City, but one excuse after another to find a reason to abuse somebody...but with great visuals to back it up!!! It's beyond me, to try and figure out why anybody would want to try to copy such trash!!! Rodriguez and Taratino seem to have a deep seeded anger not only toward woman, but men. The kind that would make a practicing sadomasochist say..."Hey...don't you guys think you should calm down? Aren't things starting to get a little weird and too violent here? Have you guys ever thought about getting off drugs? No, seriously, you really need some mental help!!! I'm calling the police!!!...Wait!!!...Put down the axe!!!"

    by dirtsandwich

I liked Sin City. It's funny when you say "Rodriguez and Taratino seem to have a deep seeded anger not only toward woman, but men." Ahhh! do you mean everybody. Men and women I think are the only ones here on planet Earth. What else is there? It's just a movie intended for adult audiences. Not 8 year olds. The directors can't help it that stupid fuck parents take their kids to see violent/sexual shit they are are suppose to watch.I find any movie regarding wars and conflict way more disturbing because they are portraying the real world. A broken down world consisting of a loser dominant species. Comic book shit is fantasy.

    Tarantino and Rodriguez

    by junior frenger

I'll admit both filmakers have a slightly juvenile bent to their work, Rodriguez seems to just enjoy playing in the sandbox. While Tarantino seems neurotically self absorbed. Neither has mad a decent film in years. Tarantino's made 2 decent films Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown. The last third of Sin City was good, and Rourkes "Marv" wasn't bad, but it can't make up for the rest of the film. If Rodriguez became a hired gun with good scripts he could be great. Tarantino's one trick pony act of reguritating crappy genre films is getting tired.

What is the point of this ultra-realistic animation? Is it some sort of rotascoping? Or is it just cell shading combined over actual footage or motion-captured footage? I mean isn't the point of animation to allow unhindered imagination? I think it looked very underwhelming, mildly cool, maybe a rental. Where did all this random Sin City bashing come from? "No meat between the sandwich" and "boring"? Are u guys nuts? Sin City was depicted absolutely perfectly. If you didnt like the movies then u must not be a fan of the comic therefore shouldnt be commenting, period, on it. BTW this movie looks like crap, ripping off Sin's background ideas and contrasts with shitty looking characters look about as stiff and rigid as the pole up Junior Frengers ass. And Junior...Tarintino has only made 2 good films...Dogs and Jackie Brown? Are u retarded? Pulp Fiction?...No? by napoleon park

Obviously all black and white = no gray, unless you squint and shake your head back and forth. *** My first reation was that it looked like a live action Paul Gulacy comic, so good call on the Steranko comparison, since he was Gulacy;s major influence (and harshest critic). i think if you buy a ticket you can comment on a comic book movie even if you're not a fan of the comic. But you're missing the main point of what makes a film like Sin City brilliant: the faithful adaptation of the source material. It was long, mysoggynistic and ultra-violent - just like the Frank Miller funnybooks it was based on. I enjoyed it, though I watched it with a poozer who absolutely hated it. *** Quentin is stuck knowing that Pulp Fiction is his Citizen Kane/2001/Psycho - the one movie that raised the bar above where he'll ever reach again. Like that time when you were 18 and you beat off five times in a row. You life will be downhill from there. *** the first link worked fine for me, I don't know what the problem was.
*** The Sears catalog is child porn - it has photos of young people in their underwear. Don't look at it. Seriously, who views kids underwear pictures as erotica other than 12 year olds?

The look is REALLY AMAZING! The story and script could be better imo,but it's really great to see something with a new look.
Oh and for the scoop: these guys are making the mobvie inspired by the short "9" and produced by Tim Burton.... promising is it not??? ;)
