11 (Eleven...XI...Ju Ichi) SUPERMAN RETURNS Clips Online!!

Published at:  Jun 14, 2006 5:20:42 PM CDT

href="mailto:merrick@aintitcool.com">Merrick here...

The folks over at iesb have posted 11 clips from SUPERMAN RETURNS. The clips are available in Windows Media format, and glorious QuickTime.

As of this posting, I’ve only been able to access one clip – and I’ve been trying all day – so I’m thinking the iesb servers are getting deluged. As such, you might want to take note of this link and try it later. Or, maybe my Internets are hosed.

You can access the footage HERE!

The clips are AWESOME. Routh can act!

    by iamjack'suserid

He is channeling Reeve, and doing a pretty good job of it. Check out the clip where Richard and Lois are discussing Superman's powers, and Lois rattles on about his statistics, which leads Richard to note Clark's own height and weight. As Lois and Richard stare at Clark from a distance -- who can hear their entire conversation -- they start to maybe have a spark of thought about who Clark truly is, and Clark gives one of these really silly and awkwards waves at them. It's very funny, and very Clark Kent.

I'm happy to see that in an hour of this being posted, there hasn't been a real negative talkback yet...which is good, because this is going to be the superhero movie to end all superhero movies. Batman Begins was excellent, but this is going to be phenomenal. It's been a long time since I got shivers watching clips or a trailer, and I got it from some of these clips. You can have faith in the Outrider shivers.

    Death of Superman

    by anagentofevil

I love the idea of having The Death adapted into a film, but they already missed that opportunity. If I were making the films, I would've done the Death first, that way you could do the resurrection/Returns story. It's too late now. Can't kill him off and have him leave AGAIN. Sucks.

    Excellent Music, Good Acting

    by saluki

First, the movie has a LOOK that is both very cinematic, but a little too understated. As a matter of fact, all of these clips are understated. This selection is likely on purpose, and it does highlight the all-around good acting, with above average scripting. The final clip, of Clark turning into Superman, with John Williams and all, finally got me excited.

    by saluki

The Death of Superman should be the wildcard they throw in for the third movie, like the wildcard being played with Venom in Spider-Man 3. We are in for more than two movies here everyone. We're into a real franchise that will easily go beyond three installments.

    by clarks1

The acting is so bland and average. I don't believe Kate is Lois Lane and Brandon is stiff in a few of those clips. Kevin is shaky as Lex. It's like he wasn't sure where he wanted to go with the role and just winged it.

ENOUGH with the GLORIOUS Quicktime Crap!!!!

    by darquelyte

    I HATE quicktime!!!
    Why?
    Whenever I play something in
quicktime, I end up with it in my startup, and the Q icon in my toolbar.
To me, that makes QT FAR from "glorious."
At least whenever I view something in Windows Media, that doesn't happen.
Yes, QT looks and sounds better.
    Whoopee-Doo.
I'm not watching a full length movie, I'm just watching a short clip/tailer/whatever.
So please, stop with the "glorious" already.

I can. That's a common studio ploy to generate buzz. If not, expect a quick -as-Lucas "cease and desist" order. Got all eleven...should I now post them on a file-sharing program? Or just email them to everyone I know? This is looking good, but this is only a small portion of the film. If these are studio plants, then maybe they're only releasing the best scenes...and maybe they have another Poseidon on their hands. Or this will rock harder than Hendrix on speed.

    Superman Returns vs. Batman Begins

    by ky-el

Sorry to break this to you, you angsty fanboys. But Superman Returns is going to be just as critically well recieved as Batman Begins. But the kicker is Superman Returns will make more money. This is going to do Spider-man type business. Why? Because it's going to draw in the chicks! That's why Spider-man drew so well. That's why Titanic ruled the box office. Singer said this is his first "chick flick". And it will make un-godly amounts of money because of it.

You know, it's shit like this that' going to MAKE this new Supes trilogy. Kate Bosworth is definitely too young though. I thought you might not be able to tell in the scenes but you can. They expect us to believe that she wasn't like 16 when Supes left for Krypton! She only looks just out of her teens NOW for fuck's sake! Still, it's going to work...I THINK... Routh is right because of his voice. It freaks you out how he sounds like Reeve.

After watching those clips, I'm convinced all over again that a man can fly. To slappy jones RE: "the rest of the world hates us"

    by jorson2

They hate us because they're jealous of our "power" and the fact that we have a president that isn't afraid to use that power (for better or worse). So what is your point? That as long as some countries dislike us, we should do away with any expressions of pride in being Americans? Well, the Hollywood people evidently think so, but where's the surprise in that? I'll still see Superman -- can't avoid movies because they may or may not agree with my political beliefs. If I did, I'd never watch anything! In any case, someone on this board said that Routh sounds like Christopher Reeve. I couldn't disagree more. He may do an adequate job in the role, but he does NOT sound like Christopher Reeve, even if he is going for the same intonations. What sucks, though, is that, as has been said before, they couldn't come up with a whole new take on the material (ala BATMAN BEGINS) and instead decided to take virtually all their cues from the first Donner film. And no, casting too-young doesn't make it an original take. Yeah, the sets are a little different, a little more shiny and colorful. So what? It's really kind of sad, though I suspect that its similarities to Donner's film is going to be what draws a lot of the over-35 crowd in if they're drawn in at all.

look, these people are right- the sets look like lois and clark or the dick tracy movie- and it might have worked for what those two were but this seems like an indie remake. here's hoping they dont use the same special effects as Charmed or Hercules the Legendary Journeys. Maybe Kevin Sorbo will come back as Zod. Even if there are capable actors in these roles, this treatment looks like its going to suck. Think about it- the only action scenes they have shown us are with the airplane and a couple of superman stopping some bullets using- come to think of it- bad Charmed special effects! If they had more I feel like they would show it to us. Fuck me a little bit for witnessing the downfall of yet another revered franchise but fuck Singer a whole lot for initiating the third such implosion in as many years.

an adult presence. Neither does Bosworth. Why did they have to pretend it was following the previous films and not just do their own movie? It seems like a bunch of actors playing very expensive dressup to recreate the feeling of the earlier films. Just silly. Although, that plane sequence looks fantastic. Also, Marsden is a good actor and gets bagged on way too often.

they captured the sweetness and noble essense of the character (except for the pathetic you-know-what soap opera twist). But it's just not as meaningful coming from someone Routh and Bosworth's age. There is no sense of history here, and it prevents you from buying into the world its creating. It's like someone doing an expensive play recreating what they remember from Superman I&II.

Supes is not only American . . .

    by nice marmot

. . . he's from Cleveland motherfuckers!!! Wish he'd play for the Browns. I'm not watching these clips. I've seen too much already. Just need to see the damn movie. Color me skeptical til I see it. I'm not open minded enough for Lois's kid & Luthor acting like Donner's Luthor & having "comic relief" sidekicks. I have a bad feeling I'll be paying just to see the special effects but hope I'm proven wrong. VERY WRONG.

    alienindisguise-Clips Comparison To Smallville.

    by mad-maximus

Still amazes me people like you are comparing clips, were talking about f-ing CLIPS here, to a TV show. Seriously alienindisguise, just think about it, do you take one piece of a jigsaw puzzle and try to compare it to a painting. I've tried watching Smallville and I respect the fans of the show but we all know that your already going to be bias. Just one more thing, how do you know we have seen the best so far? Have you even seen the movie?

Really trying to be excited for this...

    by childe roland

...but I just can't seem to get there. Unfortunate, as I loved the first two films. Actually, that might be why this holds little to no interest for me. Doesn't look like an even remotely new take on the character and the effects seem pretty lackluster. I'll probably rent it.

Hey man! OurManInMontreal is right, you're shaming us. Drop the stupid anti-American stuff. It doesn't really matter who created Superman and when. It matters that he's a great character and that obviously many people like him!

They did this with Spider-man all those years ago

The clip with his mom sounds like soap opera dialogue.

Yuck. I closed my eyes and thought someone had turned on The Guiding Light.

Ok....3 out of 11 aint bad. Wait...yes it is.

    by sydbarretsmydad

Most of those seemed pretty flat to me. And the one where he takes her for a ride? "I forgot how warm you are"? That was cringe worthy.

By the way, anyone notice the X-Men Juggernaut reference in the "See thru Anything" clip? That kid running around with the trash can on his head?

I dunno. I WANT to love this movie. But I also found myself hoping that Cyclops would laser the FUCK outta Superman in one of those clips.

Just got tickets for Wednesday night. June 28

    by r.c. the "wise"

Should be sweet! 6:30pm at the Bridge, Imax 3D. The only thing that sucked was that 4 tickets for that show cost $64. This flick better be worth it. At least they're assigned seating (so I don't have to listen to my girlfriend bitch about waiting in line for 90 minutes). Plus, I'm going to make my friend pay for the first rounds though.

They'd soft-pedal "the American way" regardless, as they want to make money from a world-wide audience.

wolack... you don't represent us true Canadians

    by pd18

... seriously man. You do NOT represent us. Yes, as Canadians we like to feel that one of our own helped create an icon like Superman, but he IS an American icon, as that is where his story developed. Remember, he stands for Truth, Justice and the American Way, not Tim Horton's, Hockey and the Canadian way (which is America envy). If Superman were Canadian, this is what he would look like.

Ya well Canada is still better than the U.S.

    by wolack22

Just look a their bombs, wars, ignorance of other cultures and language, stupid presidents, stupid people, violence, guns, racism, and self agrandizing arrogance...too bad superman isn't Canadian... and maybe that's why they no longer say he stands for the american way because the american way seems very nihilistic these days.

    some say..

    by venomfangx

some say this looks like smallville, to which i couldn't DISAGREE more. This is a much justified slap in the face to smallville for screwing endlessly with the history of superman, disregarding that crappy tv-shows continuity and returning Superman to what made him world-renouned in the first place. As for those saying Routh isn't like Reeve, you are just wrong. I've never seen or heard anyone as close to Reeve as Routh, end of story. And as for jorson2 who said he wanted Superman Returns to be a restart like Batman Begins, I say this; Batman needed a restart because Nicholson ISNT the Joker, and Keaton ISNT the Batman. However, Reeve WAS Superman, and to disregard everything he did right and start over would be to shit all over what worked so well all those many years ago. Superman Returns is brilliant for having the courage to depart from the shadow of Smallville, and remain faithful to the Superman of the past.

Got to control my anger at this film

    by rangerlee

i cant believe i'm gettin this upset over this film. everything i see makes me hate this film more and more..i think i'll explode if i actually ever see it. from rooths bland one expression acting to spaceys, if i shout loud and say clever things it means i'm evil and the same story, except for that damn kid, as donners superman with better special effects. and why base this on donners film at all surley the comics which have been going for longer and are more faithful to superman would have been a better staring point.

    by marnamin

and whether or not you choose to see it does not bother me in the least. from all the positive early reviews and the sheer excitement about a new superman film that should be sparked, how in the world could you NOT want to see this movie? you are certainly in the minority, i would imagine

About referring back to Superman 1

    by bizarrojerry

I don't mind the reference that much. I think I wouldn't mind looking at these films like the James Bond franchise. Though it was extremely rare, weren't there occasional references to events from older films, even from Connery to Moore, timeline be damned? If I'm wrong, feel free to call bullshit.
