Ain't It Cool News (

A Teensy Glimpse Into GALACTICA's Third Season??

I am – Hercules!!

Stealth missions leading up to the Cylon attack? Adama’s dark secret?

“Augustus Gloop” apparently found this floating around on Craigslist:

ROLE AVAILABLE: Lt. Novacek: 45 - 55, a career military pilot, physically fit, a man's man, but speaks in a comfortable, uncensored style, all jocular manhood with a hint of sentimentality. Novacek was a stealth pilot who worked several missions with Adama (Edward James Olmos) in the years leading up to the Cylon attack. His last mission led to his capture and imprisonment by the Cylons. Upon escaping his POW cell, he finds the Galactica, reuniting with his old comrade - only to discover an ugly truth about what really happened that last, fateful day when his ship went down and what dark secret Adama's been carrying all these years. Meanwhile, we're compelled to wonder whether Novacek might in some way be a pawn of the Cylons, having returned only to sow the seeds of discontent within the Colonial Fleet. GUEST STAR

“Petar” adds this, which may or may not relate to season three (or anything at all):

Herc, Jamie Bamber was just on the new season premiere of Celebrity Poker Showdown, and after being sent to the Loser's Lounge with Kevin Sorbo, Dave Foley made the obvious comment about how they were both on sci-fi shows in the future, and Jamie Bamber corrected this by saying that BSG wasn't in the future, but was "parallel". Could season 3 see them eventually arrive on earth in a future that is not too distant at all?

Hmmm. Maybe Adama, Roslin, et al should find Earth. But then they’d have to figure out someplace even more interesting to flee to once the Cylons vaporize us all.

The first half of season three airs this autumn on SciFi.

    by SpyGuy

It's not surprising, though, because BSG set on a planet gets pretty boring without Viper/Raider dogfights. GALACTICA 2006, anyone?

...if they got to earth and we had Galactica 2006 (a'la Galactica 1980). I like the idea that the members of the twelve colonies are either our distant past ancestors or our distant future descendants (and I like the former idea a lot more than the latter). Also, they need to get the hell off New Caprica. That place blows.

dude if this guy is going to be a viper pilot...Denis Lawson needs to be the one to take that role. Oh and they really need to ditch the new caprica thing..get everyone back into space.

    The real twist would be...

    by DrLektor

That the Cylons are the ones embraced by earth and the crew of Galactica etc are portayed as the villainous, false god worshiping slavers. Earth isn't all it's cracked up to be and Adama and company are left wondering if they've made a huge mistake. Until the Cylons make the mistake of trying to enslave humanity of course. Then it's Vipers to the rescue!

  • June 1, 2006, 11:01 a.m. CST

They made it pretty clear early on after thr final

    by Falcon5768

that they would only be on the new planet maybe 2-3 episodes at the start of the season then be on the run again. Basically this was a throwback to the original Singer script for the BSG remake before he left to do X-men and 9/11 happened to canciel the project.

Adama and crew arrive on 80s Earth (yes, make it the 80s, not present day!). They have to find two humpback whales to take back to Caprica and their cries will destroy the Cylons! There can be some 'hilarious' moments where the crew get used to life on 80s Earth.

More Emmy stuff that could derail BSG's hopes...

    by paulh

Boston Legal is going to compete in drama, and that's confirmed by the LA Times' Gold Derby Emmy awards forum. This just broke around 4:40PM Eastern today. It seems ludicrous that BL would even be considered for any Emmy, but considering James Spader and Bill Shatner have won a handful of Ems for this show, this is example #254153159318359641297 why the Emmys need a Reformation.

  • June 1, 2006, 6:36 p.m. CST

I'm pretty sure BSG takes place in the past

    by smackfu

The series will end with cylons and humans co-habitating and populating the earth in it's distant past, and we are all the hybrid offspring. This is vaguely alluded to in an episode where it's revealed that the BSG humans have never come across blood with no antigens before (type o), which is the cylon blood. The implication being that our modern earth human genepool has elements of the cylon antigen-less blood, indicating our ancestors are humans and cylons.

    Desgreed are Obviously Reptilian

    by BigAssFan

It would make sense if BSG and Earth were parallel in time, considering we all left the home planet at the same time. Which means, if BSG finds Earth...we won't be able to help them very much against the Cylons. We can't send a stealth bomber into space (yet). They can't find Earth...if they do...that'd mean the show is over. The breaks between seasons is long enough...I don't want to deal with never seeing the show again!

    Right on Smackfu!

I totally noticed the blood thing too, and I've always thought the Galacticans(?)should be our ancient ancestors. They actually did that in the 90's comic based on the old show. They get to earth and there's dinosaurs and shit, and only two surviving members of the 13th colony named Adam and Eve...something like that. It would be cool if the new show eventually goes a similar route if they find imply that our myths and legends are actually based on the events of the show, "war in heaven, titans, satan" etc. I mean, not go too heavy on it, but it's there if you look kind of thing. They should ty to work in the OS Count Ibly/light-beings stuff too...again, not too heavy or as...silly as the old show, but it would be cool they explored some of that while retaining an air of mystery. But yeah, I definitely get the impression that WE are "the shape of things to come" ie...human/Cylon-hybreds. Goddamn... I'm such a geek. Good night.

What might place the show in our future.

    by Shan

When the Galacticans saw the holographic projection on Kobol, it showed the stars as they were viewed from Earth at approximately the present day for us now. Because more than a few thousand years in the past or future, the constellation patterns that would form the basis of the flags of the colonies would not have existed. Also, the fact that the President said the old names for the colonies were what we call the signs of the Zodiac now, it might suggest we were in the past and the Galacticans in the future. Of course, the makers might have other ideas, also, there's always the possibility they failed to take into account celestial drift. If I've made a mistake in my theory (a common mistake), please let me know how.

  • June 2, 2006, 4:02 a.m. CST

    A possible theory.

    by Shan

Assuming I'm basically correct about the constellations, what could fit with the available evidence is this; Earth is formed along with the solar system, life begins and evolution happens, eventually leading to us today. No sign of extra terrestial colonisation as we have never dug up any spaceship remains, transistors or other futuristic technology (yes I know, absence of evidence does not mean ... etc). At some point in the future, mankind develops spacetravel and settles Kobol. Amongst other things we take are the knowledge of the appearance of the Earth's sky and the positions of the signs of the stars in the constellations of the zodiac at about this time. These positions and modified names of these zodiac signs form the basis of the colony flags and names. Because of the disaster, some knowledge is scrambled and people believe that the Colonials settled Earth from Kobol, not the other way around as it actually happens. During the disaster, the Colonials go to the Colonies but one group returns to Earth. I think this seems to be the best fit with Earth's real history as we know it. At some point worship of the Greek Gods came back into vogue - but in a world that Scientology exists, I guess anything is possible. Your thoughts ???

as long as a series gets a good 3 seasons

    by FinalSolace4

as long as a series gets 3 good seasons.... then they can fuck the show with the executive enslavement of the franchise leading to spin-offs, marketing, britney spears appearances, and crap castings- until then- dont fuck up season three then i can retire.

SPOILER - news from online interview with BSG producer

    by Triumph poops!

There was an online interview I read recently with one of the producers (sorry, I don't have the link handy. I'll try to get it and post it later) where he revealed 3 major things about the upcoming season. *** SPOILERS *** One, that when the show resumes, it would NOT be picking up from where it left off last (that is, the Cylons arriving on New Caprica and confronting Baltar). Instead, once again it would instantly start by jumping ahead several MONTHS in time and we'd pick up the action from there, with flashbacks filling the viewer in on core story points as needed... Two, that Baltar would be a total prick this season, finally morphing into the more outright villain you could openly hate... and three, he indicated that one of the better known characters will be killed off very early on. I think he said about the third episode in. When asked if it was because the actor or actress wanted out of the show, he indicated they hadn't run into that particular problem yet, and that the decision to kill the person off was more creative and writer-driven versus contract-problem oriented.

    Long-haired Starbuck

    by NoHubris

IMHO Starbuck is Starbuck with long or short hair. It is interesting to consider whether or not long hair reduces one's warrior standing on screen. Long hair worked for all the warriors in LOTR - nale and female. It worked for Anakin and Daniel Day Lewis' Hawk-eye ...Angelina Joli as Lara Croft and Mrs. Smith...Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon...Zhang in Rush Hour 2 and Shi mian mai fu...Miho in Sin City. With Starbuck

  • June 2, 2006, 7:28 p.m. CST

Sexist pig that I am, I prefer longer hair Starbuck

    by Triumph poops!

I just think Katee Sackhoff looks much better with longer hair. The plus side being when you want to show kick-ass Starbuck, you just pull the hair up, tie it in a bun, and she's ready to kill Cylons galore. But when you want to show a softer side of Starbuck, you could now just let down the hair and visually she looks far sexier -- not to mention it plays up the conflicting two sides to the character's personality. To be honest, in GALACTICA's finale last year, I was shocked how good Sackhoff looked with the longer hair since one of my core beefs when they hired her was that I never fournd her that attractive. But the hair made a world of difference, least to my eyes. However if Mr Nice Gaius is right and they're going even SHORTER next year...well, we'll just have to wait and see. But overall I agree with NoHubris. Longer hair never hurt a billion other characters, so I don't see why letting it grow on Starbuck would somehow take away from the edge of the character.

  • June 2, 2006, 8:18 p.m. CST

ill tell you why it would take the edge away
