HULK!! X-MEN!! DEADWOOD!! Herc's Super-Exciting Season-Box DVD Vault!!

Published at:  May 23, 2006 2:08:53 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

David E. Kelley, a huge and acclaimed force in television for two decades, has never seen one of his shows – not “L.A. Law,” not “Chicago Hope,” not “Picket Fences,” not “Ally McBeal,” not “The Practice,” not “Snoops,” “Boston Public,” “Girls Club,” or “The Brotherhood of Poland, New Hampshire” - on a U.S. DVD season-set.

Until this week. The adventures of Denny Crane, Alan Shore, Shirley Schmidt, Brad Chase, Paul Lewiston and season-one-only characters Tara Wilson, Lori Colson and Sally Heep arrive at last on Boston Legal: The Complete First Season. I gather this set only contains 17 episodes, since the final few produced for season one were kicked over to “Legal’s” second season once everybody saw how well “Grey’s Anatomy” was doing in “Legal’s” old time slot.

Deadwood: The Complete Second Season is the one that saw Al Swearengen stricken and introduced the Hearst organization to the titular South Dakota settlement. Your $70 gets you all 12 second-season episodes, at least nine commentaries, the historical featurette “The Real Deadwood 1877,” and numerous making-of docs.

The coolest thing about X-Men Evolution: The Complete Third Season is it contains the complete third season. Thirteen episodes for only $13.99. The series is otherwise available in unpleasant 3-episode sets for about $9 each. Those suck!

Herc’s Popular Pricing Pantry

Fox Home Entertainment has lopped (at least as I type this) a whopping 50-percent off a load of its animated titles:

Futurama

$19.97 Volume One

King of the Hill

$19.97 The Complete First Season

$24.97 The Complete Second Season

$21.47 The Complete Third Season

$19.97 The Complete Fourth Season

$19.97 The Complete Fifth Season

The Simpsons

$19.97 The Complete First Season

$24.97 The Complete Second Season

$24.97 The Complete Third Season

$24.97 The Complete Fourth Season

$24.97 The Complete Fifth Season

$24.97 The Complete Sixth Season

And one can still (at the moment) find a great many of Fox’s 50-percent off non-animated season-sets here!!

    Why was it awesome?

    by shermdawg

Because the focus was on Cyclops, not Wolvie. If only the films would have took the same approach. *sigh*

Battlestar Galactica - Full Season 2 Box

    by hell's cigarette

You know this will come out as a full season box set and those who bought "2.0, Volume 1" will cry "gouge!". I just want to get an October date for this thing nailed down, so I can actually see this in anamorphic since I can't see any first run episodes in glorious HD for some BS reason...why the F can NBC show repeats of Law & Orders on the weekend, but not rebroadcast BSG in HD? Someone explain this to me...Universal HD keeps broadcasting the miniseries and Season 1. This is total BS that in 2006 we can't see a show that is filmed in HD actually broadcast in HD.

    BSG in HD

    by atomik steve

repeats are broadcast (at least in NY) on the Universal HD channel. I just watched one on Sunday. I've been avoiding it b/c i haven't seen any of season 2 yet, but they showed a season 1 ep on Sunday, so I watched!

David E. Kelley - Season Sets

    by violetparr

Technically, Herc, Kelley could go out and get one of those snazzy Doogie Howser sets if he wanted to see one of his shows on a U.S DVD Season Set. Good point on the other "Kelley-only" shows though.

    4400 better go somewhere...

    by nodwick

I like the 4400, too, but I fear it's becoming a "freak of the week" show and not developing a good central storyline. The seeds are there (i.e. what happened to Collier, etc.), but they need to do something more epic in scope with their scripts.

    Cheri Oteri is a Goddess!!

    by neocon

Has there ever been a woman on this planet funnier than her? Most people say SNL sucked after Will Ferrel left. I think Cheri Oteri leaving is what killed it.

Seeing X-Men, I got my hopes up

    by heywood jablowme

I thought it would be for the 90s series. Screwed again. I watched an episode of Evolution. Totally sucked. Just like the "new" cartoon versions of GI Joe and Transformers. Things WERE better back in my day! And stay off my lawn! Punk kids.

    That so-called "good" show

    by mista mann

You know, I haven't seen an episode of My So-called Life in like 10 years, but even as a teenager, I LOATHED the show. The characters' dialogue was very real, but that was also its downfall. I don't know how I was supposed to sit through an hour of "Like, it was good, or something. You know?" What remarkable scripting. Blech.

    The Man From U.N.C.L.E

    by real deal

Well first I've read this week that the first season of Uncle is going to be released in July by Anchor Bay. Now it's been pulled because the question of who owns the home video rights are being argued by Warner Bros. This is just maddening! Hey studios just get it together! Ok?

    Animated Tick DVDs...

    by palhaco

The first season (minus one episode for vague licensing reasons) is scheduled to come out on August 29. And, as far as I'm concerned, the animated show was much better than the live action version.

X-Men Evolution was...okay. my problem is i was comparing it to the mid-90s Fox animated series. Ditto the MTV Spider-man series. WHY IN THE FLYING BLUE HELL ARE THESE TWO PHENOMINAL SHOWS NOT AVAILABLE ON DVD YET?! Seriously, i know at least one of you lads or lasses knows where i can find said items. we're all geeks, here. help a brother out.
