Return Of The Falconer?? Caw!!!! Kevin Spacey Hosts The Last SNL Of Season 31!! SWEEPS DAY 24!!

Published at:  May 20, 2006 3:37:30 PM CDT

In 1992, Ken Mortimer was an advertising executive in Baltimore, Maryland. Then, for reasons known only to him, he left his wife and career and moved deep into the forest. Now, he is known only as … "The Falconer"!!

I am – Hercules!!

THE FALCONER: Ohh, Donald! That tap we set for the coyote has caught yours truly instead! For four days, I have dangled here like a urine-soaked pinata! If only a gaggle of Mexican children weilding sticks would come along and put me out of my misery!

DONALD squawks.

THE FALCONER: That's not racist! Pinatas are of Mexican origin!

DONALD squawks.

THE FALCONER: Fine! A gaggle of children of all creeds and colors! Look! Just go! Get me a knife! an ax! Anything I can use to cut this rope! Hurry! I, Ken Mortimer, must LIIIIVE!!!

“Saturday Night Live” doesn’t air live for another seven hours, which is a lifetime in SNL terms. Final sketch selection doesn’t begin until 10 p.m. ET, following dress rehearsal.

But our mole inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza suggests there is a Falconer sketch in contention. It could be the first Falconer sketch in more than a year.

We might also see the return of The Assholes and Vincent Price.

Tonight definitely brings Kevin Spacey’s first stint as SNL host in nearly a decade. His last time was Jan. 11, 1997, about 18 months after “The Usual Suspects.” In those days, foreigners like Norm Macdonald and Mark McKinney in the SNL cast.

Musical guest tonight is Nelly Furtado, back for the first time since Jan. 13, 2001. She’s pretty! Her new album, "Loose," streets June 20.

11:30 p.m. Saturday. NBC.

The Falconer is a consistently funny sketch. And didn't we already have one this season when Jason Lee hosted? I seem to remmber him having an affair with Donald.

    by eyeofpolyphemus

His turns as Christopher Walken and Walter Mathau in the Star wars screen tests last time he hosted are classics. I hope they give him a chance to shine. Speaking of Walken, why didn't he host this year? I would have rather seen him than Alec Baldwin again.

    by napoleon park

I still like SNL and don't mean to take this off topic, but it's Saturday and there's no new JLU article, talkback or episode, and there never will be again and I am sad about that. Sorry. *** Kelly Bundy was a teenage whore in a movie called "Streets". So is the new Nelly Furtado album going to teen-age whore itself? Seriously, we as a culture have voted and it is official: we hate Variety-speak. Please confine posts to conventional American English. No skeins, no 'streets'. Please. *** Also, not looking forward to a Falconer movie, so let that just die, okay?

I mean that "Like A Bird" video? *sigh* Breathtaking. Loved "Turn Out The Lights", which made her a two hit wonder. Is there a third hit on the way? We shall see. And as far as her reclaiming her hot title, she looks to be back in shape after that "baby incident". :P God, I love me some FURTADO. Hey, I don't mean to make fun of her or her kids, buuuut...if one of them ever does somethin stupid, how much ya wanna bet someone will say this: "What's a matta wit that kid?" I mean, who can argue with it being Giselle? Buuuuut Kate Moss on that new camera commercial is unbwelievable. I don't car if she did a Scarface impression before the shoot or not. The reason I think I like her now, because I didn't before, is because she looks like Kate of Kate's Playground fame. :) Oh, and I love Forte, but The Falconer is my least favorite sketch of his aside from his terrible Bush impression. IT'S LAME!!! Hey, you know what wouls be cool? If Spacey did Walken (No gay joke please.) and did a Continental skit, and Walken walked out. That'd be sweet. SWEET I TELL YA! Anyways please let this be the last episode of Fey, Parnell, and Mitchell. Can't stand them. One questiion, have they got the stench of "Colin's Place" out of the studio yet? Yikes. Don't worry, this is my last post til' start time. Hey, COPS airs it's 650th episode tonight!!! Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha gonna do?....

    by zool43

This guy's firing has been long overdue. I mean he cracks up in like 9 out of 10 sketches. Although the stumbling tit grab on JLD last week was hilarious. I'm hoping for a good show but it's not likely considering they had a good show last week. I cant remember the last time there were two good shows in a row. Overall this season has pretty much been on auto-pilot but they turned out a few great shows. Like the Natalie Portman, Lindsay Lohan and last weeks show. Kevin Spacey was a good host last time so theres some hope for a good finale.

You have got to have a real stick up your ass to think the "Lazy Sunday" and "A Day In The Life Of Natalie Portman" aren't balls out hilarious...the Digital Shorts are the only reason I'll tune in.

    Will Forte...

    by donkeyballs

Listen. Andy Samberg is one of my oldest friends, and Will Forte is about ten years older than me but he is also a longtime friend of the family (many of you may not realize that Andy and Will went to high school about 15 minutes away from each other -- not to mention the axed Jeff Richards, who went to school about five minutes from Forte's school in Walnut Creek. The Bay Area is the new comedy breeding ground!) and let me just say that the biggest problem with SNL is not the cast, it is Tina Fey. Now keep in mind, neither of those guys bitches about her. But she is in fact the one, not Lorne, who really has the say in what gets taken over. In fact, Lorne is grooming Fey to basically be "him" when he goes. And she has tremendous influence. THat's why Amy Poehler is on update. That's why lame sketches get on, ebcause Tina Fey is one of those people who amuses herself first. Don't blame the cast for what gets on the show. It really is not up to them. Tina Fey, ever since 1996 or whenever it was she joined, has been nothing but a cancer on this show. She is fine for update, she can be amusing, but she is one of those drama dorks from high school that tries WAY too hard to be funny and doesn't have the balls or insanity to pull it off.

    by shakes

With Fey being the writer/star/producer of that new show she's doing for NBC, does that mean she'll be leaving the show. Whenever other castmembers did their own shows, they always left. Remember, it was the shortlived Michael Richards show that Tim Meadows had a supporting role on that finally got him off of the show.

    1) One difference: Leno has never done anything funny, and neither have you. When you write Mean Girls, you're on nearly equal footing and can comment.

    2) "just shut up and entertain"? Have you seen any of the first years of SNL? SNL's always been a politically-provocative show to some capacity. Of course, some of that went away in the shithole Reagan 80's. Still, it's naive of you to say that comedians and entertainers can't or shouldn't provoke. It's also douchebag-esque. Just sayin'.

    "Just shut up and entertain."

Notice how liberals never say that about smart conservative comedians like Dennis Miller and, um...... Dennis Miller? Interesting.

...to Lafeyette in 15 minutes. And Lafeyette to Walnut Creek in 5 minutes. I went to St. Mary's High, and my girlfriend went to Carondelet. That could take me up to 40 minutes during the wrong time of day. And thusly, I am so far off-topic only one other person will know what the hell I am talking about.

GreatOne, way to completely miss the point.

I wasn't talking about how "the majority of comedians are liberal", and I'm not even sure if that's the case. And of course the vast majority of comics don't inject politics into their act. Political humor has it's audience, but I think there are more comics who would rather make EVERYONE laugh than just people in blue states. What I meant was that liberals seem to be able to accept humor and satire for what it is more than conservatives do. When Norm MacDonald and Colin Quinn made fun of Clinton on Update, I never heard any of Clinton's supporters telling them to "shut up and entertain".

    The Falconer

    by frantoll

I think when they came up with that sketch they had recently watched the Doctor Who episode where Rose went back in time to save her father and then fucked up so they had to go back in time again and there were two copies of them. Then they began writing the skit from that starting point and another writer on the staff started remembering (consciously or not) an episode of Sealab 2021 they watched a couple years ago where Dr. Quinn and Stormy kept going back in time and trying to save Sealab from an explosion over and over again, always failing to convince their counterparts in time, getting blown back into the past, and trying again and again, accumulating dozens of copies of themselves until the episode ended. Not that the SNL sketch didn't have a laugh or two, but those other two tv episodes were too fresh in my mind to let me fully appreciate it.

    I finally watched the tape...

...and I'm surprised none of the scarface haters mentioned the moment on Update with Fey and Poehler and the on screen graphic reading "talking urinals". Come on, you pervs and Fey haters had to love that.

    50. -are you Mc SURE?! lmao! that Samburg is one funny fuck. They better give him more face time because he's the only one i laft at saturday night. "Its Carol" was good, only because Sans is a fat bastard and seems to make anything stupid enough to giggle at. "if you touch my chest, i'll drop my drawers!" lmao. see? funny. i fucking hate that SNL only seems to have 5 eps in a season, and a 2 month break in-between episodes. they are only hurting themselves. i'd watch it all the time if it was new, but it always seems too hard to figure out if its new or not. *yawn*

Hope they are both back next year. There's more talent in their respective scars and backfat than you haters have in your parent's whole basement.

Mean Girls is a poor copy of Heathers

    by coffeeandcinema

I'm one of those that will be happy if Tina Fey is indeed gone for next season. I thought Spacey playing the straight man to Horatio's over-the-top Carol was what made that skit work, and The Falconer was hillarious. That's all.
