PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER's new trailer appears online!

Published at:  May 15, 2006 10:27:00 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... I don't know if you're like me and think that Tom Tykwer is one of the most excitingly unique filmmakers to come around in quite some time... but honestly, that's how I feel. The book upon which his next film is based was absolutely riveting. And the teaser trailer - and this second trailer have me convinced this film about a serial killer with a perfect sense of smell... meaning he can absolutely categorize and track like a bloodhound with a human brain the various types of scents (camphor, musk, flower, mint, ether, acrid or putrid) that exist... and becomes obsessed with creating the greatest scent of... well - you'll have to either read the book or see the film to find it all out, but the story is all at once fascinating and frightening. Check out the creepy trailer that you'll find at the end of this link. The U.S. doesn't get this film from Dreamworks till December 8th - you European readers will see it long before us. This trailer is the German trailer - as it debuts there in mid-September.

    Awesome Novel ( www.theweeklydonut.com)

This was a truly remarkable book. I can only hope that most of you can read, so I strongly recommend that you all run out and get a hold of a copy of this book and read it. December 8th is a long way off so you should have more than enough time to finish it. It sure looks at though Herr Tykwer not only got it but he nailed it. Kubrick loved this book and dreamed of being able to tackle it but moved on. I'm going to go brush up on my german and have myself a big donut! www.theweeklydonut.com

Dammit, Jessica Schwarz is in it!

    by derlanghaarige

An untalented Ex-MTV-Host with an annoying voice. :P But the rest of it looks cool. I lost interest when Ridley Scott left the director's chair (Not that I wouldn't like Tykwer), I wanna see that film.

    Harry read a book?

    by onefalsemove

I am amazed that Harry has actually read a book before the movie comes out. This was also Kurt Cobain's favorite book.

    German

    by don lockwood

Why is it that both the teaser and the trailer I've seen have been in German? Is there no American distributor for this? It's got Alan Rickman, Evan Rachel Wood and Dustin Hoffman in it for cripes sake!

From that trailer you extrapolate so much - I smell bullshit Harry, because you don't speak German - and that dialogue don't work.

    Looks nice.

    by sepulchrave

I never went utterly nuts over the book; it was such a sensation that I recoiled a bit. But it seems to have proved its staying power and the first pages alone are unforgettable. Why are you complaining that its not in Egglish; clearly this is the first look, its a Euro film, so the first look will be European; you'll have to wait to hear Rickman and Hoffman. Anyway, I don't speak German and it seems pretty clear to me; too clear; did we have to SEE the murder AND have the word MURDER in the title?

    CANNIBALISM

    by godoffireinhell

I wonder if they kept the ending intact ... The orgy footage seems to suggest as much. I'm excited about this!

Book rocks, but I'll be fascinated...

    by mr jonse

...to see how they've managed to adapt something that relies so much on descriptions of smells. I honestly would have thought this was unfilmable. Trailer looks amazing though...

even as a german i think it is quite weird to listen to the german version as it is -as i understand it- not the original but the dubbed version. always cool to see a trailer that makes you excited for a film (not so with da vinci code for example)--
