Carnivale... They wrapped the 2nd season BEFORE knowing they weren't picked up, So the season ended with a cliffhanger and now we'll never know what happens. HBO had the balls to release a statement saying they felt they had completed the story. Cliffhanger, by its very definition, means that the story is not over. If if is cancelled, hopefully you Deadwood fans at least got a wrapped up third season arc by the finale and no frustrating series finale cliffhangers.

I'm still bitter that HBO changed Carnivale's time slot from 9 to 10PM EST with about three episodes left in the second season, just so they could usher in the second season premiere of Deadwood. With my twisted sense of logic, I keep thinking that Carnivale would still be on had it not been for that... (and I actually loved the first season of Deadwood...)

Worst news I've heard in awhile. As far as ranking to other HBO dramas, it far, FAR surpasses them, in my opinion. Ian McShane starts off as one of the most coldhearted characters I've ever seen, but throughout the course of the show, becomes the definitive anti-hero. This is such sad news to see it's gone after this season.

I'm guessing since it's heading into its third season, it probably won't gain any new viewers, so it may be it's last. Although the third season of the series isn't rolling out until June, sources say the premium cable service is close to greenlighting a fourth season. HBO declined comment. Sources suggested HBO chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht was encouraged to move ahead with "Deadwood" after seeing progress made on production of Season 3. As many as eight of the 12 episodes ordered already have been shot. "

According to eOnline the contracts don't expire until June 11th, the date of the season 3 premiere. http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,19013,00.html Hopefully this is just some posing by HBO (like they did with thinking of cancelling ROME/The Wire) to build buzz before the beginning of the new season. Milch has been saying over the last 6 months that he envisioned the show going for 4 seasons, those that know the history of the town realise that there is a perfect point comming up to finish it. Quantum Leap finale was written as a cliffhanger until they heard the series was cancelled then they rewrote the ending to "conclude" the series with the lousy line: "Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home."

Benson ended with a gubernatorial race between the title character and his former employer which was never resolved. Not a great cliffhanger ending, but a question left unresolved.

Tony and crew get sucked into a Time Tunnel and end up in Deadwood where they try to get a piece of the action, but the old school hardasses in town are having none of it and kill them all, except for Tony who is sucked back into the present, but all of his crew is dead and his crime family kaput. So he really does become a garbage man. The last scene is Tony getting on the back of a garbage truck and crying because not only is his life in shambles, but the time travel left him impotent, and the last tine is Tony saying "Deadwood. That's exactly what I got.". FIN, bitch.

I got into Deadwood while going through between-season Sopranos withdrawl symptoms. It grew on me as the first season went along and I came to love it as its own unique little beast. What I love about both shows are the larger themes lying below the surface. Both shows deal with lowlifes operating in a microcosm of America/the world and have pushed the boundaries of what TV can do.I still think The Sopranos is the greatest show ever concieved but love Deadwood and all its characters. Miracles also ended in a cliffhanger of sorts, as the last episode that aired was "Hand of God" which basically opened up the entire plot for the show, and is just a fantastic hour of television. And me just THINKING about Cooper's face while laughing through "How's Annie?" makes me smile. What a terrific show/character.

I love Rome, but it's not enough for me to pay $12/month. Big Love, I'm watching it but that would be a series to cancel, not cocksucking Deadwood. Swearingen is simply the most compelling character on television. What the fuck happened to HBO anyway? Did they get new management a few years back? I've been a loyal viewer ever since Dream On. If they're gonna take their cues from the big three crapworks, then I'm gone.
