Who’s responsible?
Series mastermind Amy Sherman-Palladino directs from a teleplay by Sherman-Palladino and husband Daniel. Tonight’s episode marks likely the last “Gilmore” teleplay either Palladino will author, as both have suddenly exited the series over funding issues. Which is nuts. And which, of course, renders the episode’s title especially apropos.

“In the sixth-season finale, Lorelai tries to avoid Luke and ends up pouring her heart out to a psychologist (Melora Hardin) who was invited to dinner at her parents' house. Elsewhere, Rory tries to avoid the Huntzbergers, particularly Mitchum, as she attends Logan's graduation and prepares for his inevitable departure; and Taylor's bothered by an influx of troubadours to Stars Hollow. Mary Lynn Rajskub, Sam Phillips, Grant Lee Phillips, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Sparks and Joe Pernice appear.”

Something big happens to one of the Gilmores; and something bigger happens to the other.

The psychologist is young and attractive and seated next to Rory’s dad.
Neil Young is central to the storyline. Does he actually appear in the episode?
Sadly, Mr. Young, his guitar and his sideburns remain wholly absent.
I gather we learn tonight why Lorelai has been avoiding her fiancé?

Does Rory put a knee to Mitch Huntzberger’s nethers?
An elevator brings her together with the senior Huntzberger, but testicles do not come into play. Surprisingly, his critique of her journalistic abilities does not come up, nor does the Wall Street Journal. And Mitch has the last word.
Didn’t I hear a long time ago that there was a wedding in the season finale? Was Lane’s moved to earlier in the season, or do one of the Gilmore Girls get hitched for the first time tonight?
Tonight? Someone asks someone else to elope.
Does “24” vet Mary Lynn Rajskub smile? Does her character make any reference to protocols or sockets?
She doesn’t smile or reference sockets, but her role this week is tiny. And those who think Rajskub isn’t eleven kinds of cute need to see what she looks when wearing a miniskirt and guitar strap.
Does the Sparks keyboardist still sport the tiny mustache?
He does!
Is it a Hitler mustache?
No. It’s smaller.
What’s great?
The cast generally and Lauren Graham in particular. “I know how mad you get when I bring the Insane Clown Posse with me.” “Wow, are those letters to scale?” “Tonight she’s settling up all old debts, huh?” “Heart of gold, my ass!” “So it wasn’t code; I gotta …” “Are you having some sort of breakdown?” “What? I was serious about that one.” Twiggy Gilmore. “Not everyone’s me!” “Well, you keep thinking that.” “Me? No. no. I’m good. It was nice meeting you. Bye! I gotta go.” “I pick you! I pick you!” “Like I’m Clarence Thomas or something!” “I love you, Ace.”
What’s not so great?
The lack of closure! This is the exact not-perfect time to pull Sherman-Palladino off the girls.
Does the season end with a cliffhanger?
You know it, ace.
Please note! The “Gilmore” finale is said to run two minutes longer than usual. Adjust your recording devices accordingly, or be prepared to miss the season’s all-important concluding moments.
