I'm still on the fence...it seems like all the episodes up til now are just character developments. But Bill Paxton rocks, as usual!

    Too long till the Wire

    by chorleyfm

That will be around an 18 month wait between seasons. At least we will have the Sopranos for another few months, then Deadwood and Entourage to tide us over.

    Really? This is surprising.

    by annoyyou

Today there was an article in the NY Times about how Big Love is pretty much a ratings debacle (well, not as bad has Huff, but pretty bad) and can't hold on to any of The Sopranos lead-in. I can't believe anyone is watching it, it's so damn boring. Whining white people in Utah -- who cares?

    That's odd, AnnoyYou...

    by flickerhead

... since they also posted the cable ratings today, and "Big Love" stands as the 9th most watched show on all of cable television (http://tinyurl.com/e8ckc). Can't seem to find the article you're referring to -- do you have a link? I'm glad to see the series got renewed. It's well-acted, well-produced and I find it highly entertaining. I've heard people complain about how slowly the stories are kicking into gear, but that's precisely what's so great about premium cable shows -- they're given time to grow! I love the fact that "Big Love" is taking it's time developing the characters (and, let's face it, there's about a million of 'em) before getting them all twisted up in wacky storylines. Besides, any show that casts Carlos Jacott is cool in my book.

    by photoman

Not sure I like it or not. I keep watching it because I like Bill Paxton and of course the great Harry Dean Stanton....but the show just isn't ringing true to me yet. It hasn't gotten into it's stride yet I suppose.

    by scratcher

"Also at HBO, the network began production on a second season of ``Rome'' at Rome's Cinecitta Studios. A co-production of HBO and the BBC, ``Rome'' also will return to air sometime next year after completing production in October."

This, from a Reuter's story that also has the quote about Big Love's ratings - http://tinyurl.com/fns5r + + + + I don't mind Big Love, but really can't find the time to watch it. My wife, however, LOVES it, and doesn't watch Sopranos. Go figure. But both of us are crazy about Rome! The only question is, how are they going to figure out how to bring back Ceasar??

    by mrboinfoint

I mean, she used to be attractive and all, but i never really "got it." But now, on this show, she is just luminous. Meanwhile, Chloe Sevigny is stuck in unflattering blue jean skirts and bible hair and looks horrible. Why would Bill Paxton go near that?

    recasting Octavian

    by scratcher

Too bad. That young actor was very good, but they must want to fast forward in the storyline. If only they had stretched out the first season to 2, and given those storylines more time to develop (and more Pompei, and more JC, and more Cleopatra). Instead, they should do season 2 as a prequel, and show JC and the boys kicking Gaul butt.

    Big Love

    by neothelessar

As someone living in the theocracy that is Utah, I can tell you that the domestic aspects of "Big Love" are spot on. While mainstream Mormons don't pursue polygamy (openly) anymore they certainly do act like the people featured on "Big Love". Just watch "Big Love" and you'll never have a reason to visit Utah ever again (except for Park City which isn't really part of Utah), remember that and appreciate how much pain "Big Love" is sparing you. Oh and the show is looking good too.

    by beefywhore

I thought Max Pirkis was perfect as octavian..I guess the timeline moves to fast for us to believe that he is a grown man who just happens to look like a 15 year old kid. If that kid plays his cards right he'll have a hell of a career ahead of him....sorry BTW to keep talking Rome in the Big Love talkback...I totally dig that show too...that little ring chick creeps me out with this character almost as much as she did crawling out of the TV.

    Too much character development?

    by vinceklortho

ummm...isn't that what makes a show good? I'm still on the fence with Big Love, but I am slightly beginning to enjoy it...I wish there was a talkback because it is such a creepy, sexual, nutty show. Yeah, what's up with the oldest boy getting a boner over Margie? That in itself is certainly keeping me interested. Next weeks episode looks to be a doozy. I bet this show really takes off at the end of this season. Mark it.

Yeah Rome Season 1 should've been 2-3 seasons

    by mrboinfoint

Season 1: Julius Ceasar vs. Pompey. Season 2: Egypt. Season 3: leading up the Ides of March. instead, the best actor on the show is killed off, and they have to recast Octavian, because, surprise, the kid wasn't allowed to mature through the three years that actually took place.

    by classyblassie

Hey, "Big Love" is a great show. Lots of great actors (family cast), plus Harry Dean Stanton and Bruce Dern, and others. (TRIVIA: Grace Zabriskie helped killed Harry Dean Stanton in David Lynch's "Wild at Heart"...buy that DVD). Anyway, the youngest wife is too damn hot. She's cute, has that insecurity/vulnerability. If I were Bill Paxton, I'd have that house three nights a week, two for the others. Blassie out.

So far Big Love's been better than Sopranos this season

    by starya45

Talk about nothing happening...the coma should not have lasted more than one episode...loved the alternate reality, but was overdone...and I'm sick of hearing the "their just building to something" excuse...so we have to sit through ten episodes of nothing for one good one? Big Love is more intriguing every week and has so many layers to enjoy.

    by chest_rockwell

When she lets her hair down. I too don't like it when she has the denim skirts, and the braided hair. But that scene in front of the house, where she threatens Roman's little thug, her hair was down and flowing, and she was fine. Damn fine, to be exact. I'd hit it bigtime. I'd make her my Saturday Night Beaver.

BAND OF BROTHERS, THE PACIFIC NOOOOW PLEEEASE!!!!

    by stigmata

Jeanne Tripplehorn is the new Charlotte Rampling in the Increasingly Fetching With Age category. Hopefully all the hustle/bustle "moms and dad on the move" scenes die down by the end of the season. WHEN IS HBO AIRING the new Band of Brothers (apparently not called BoB, rather THE PACIFIC WAR)??? http://www.the-pacific-war.com/synopsis.shtml

I am also smitten by Goodwin and her hotness. She's a great and sweet character. I love the show and it completes HBO's perfect Sunday night for me. THE SOPRANOS has been slower, but it's every bit as awesome and don't forget this is an extendended season. Great again to hear HBO renewed BIG LOVE...but they gotta bring back CARNIVALE and when is THE WIRE returning.

    by movieman742

They are just now starting to look for a new actor. The actor who played him in the first season still has episodes in the second season. So there might be a time jump somewhere to show him aged. Also, it might suprise some of you that Ciran Hinds, the actor who portrayed JC, is also returning for a few of the first episodes. Either flashbacks or Ceaser's Ghost.

what's the deal with Benny and Margine?

    by whedon

At first I thought Ben was gay going by the hard on he got in woodshop in addition to wanting to discuss his boner problem with his buddy several episodes back. Now though they keep going back to the strange relationship Ben and Margine have in which they both seem to act like two little kids around each other. Ben's mom seems kind of pissed off every time she sees the two of them together and you had that strange scene with them after he yelled at her for having the neighbor over to the house. I actually thought they might kiss for a second which would have taken the show down an even stranger path then Harry Dean and his child bride.

Don't get me wrong I really like the show so far and the Benny/Margine interaction is probably my second favorite part of the show behind Paxton and Amanda Seyfried's chest but I'm curious as to other people's opinions on this.

...out of some obligation to Roman or something. It's an alright show for the background, but I don't care if it gets canceled. I don't consider it an HBO caliber show. I'm fine that they're sticking with it since that's what I like about HBO. They are the anti-Fox in that regard (Carnivale aside -- I never took to an HBO show as quick as that - what a shame). ......... And yes, I have the theme stuck in my head all the time too. Don't know why. Really wish I didn't.

    by kuryakin

I mean I like Big Love but the story is all in the headline. I just clicked onto this by accident to find there's a fourth season of The Wire - fuck me this should be bigger news. That's like having a headline saying "OC moving to an hour earlier" and then in the actual story saying " Oh yeah and by the way, Tony Soprano dies this week"
