Aaarrrr! AICN Exclusive PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST images!!!!
Sharks... why'd it have to be sharks... Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a pair of nifty little character comparison stills exclusive to you guys. What we have below are two of Davy Jones' crew... I'm thinking they look a little like Mike Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz after a nasty run in with the Beach Boys. Anyway, the below are looks at two of Jones' main henchmen in the flick. You'll see an evolution of the characters... a maquette, a rough digital form and the final form of each of the two characters. Disney wanted this to be known:
"Here's a first look at conceptual designs and maquette busts of two members from Davy Jones' crew. Hadras & Maccus sail aboard the Flying Dutchman, their bodies assimilating elements of the sea itself under the curse of Davy Jones."
I love the crazy design of these guys and based on the previous film, the trailer for this one and all the design work we've seen so far... count me greatly excited for the sequel. If it's half as fun as the first, it could still be better than most of the other summer blockbusters. Enjoy the pics (oh, and click on the pics below to get larger versions):

that is the goofiest looking fake assed pics i ever seen!
-
This is a joke, right?
-
But these guys look like villains from "Power Rangers". I hope they look better in action.
-
Okay, these look like character design ideas more than images from the movie itself, which I guess is all anyone expected judging from the talkback. So looking at these, I gotta say they look like characters designed for a cartoon show or action figure line. It's Masters of the Carribean Universe! Not that this is a bad thing exactly, although why the hell they can't make Thundercats or MotU into a movie when they can make this, I'll never know.
-
Because they AAARRR!!!
I know it's old. Give me a break.
-
i think i've seen the power rangers episode with the hammerhead guy.
-
like "you best start believing in ghost stories lassie, YOU'RE IN ONE!"
cause these character designs are going to require a MAGNIFICENT script. WTF? How can you realistically explain something like this? Shell head? Hammerhead? Cute. -
They should call these two Tuna Taco and Bearded Clam. Or maybe Pink Dot and Chicken Cutlet.
-
Which one's Bootstrap Bill? Have they showed what he looks like yet or is he even 'mutated' like that? I only assume he is since he's been living at the bottom of the sea with 'ol Davy Jones... This movie's going to be a lot of fun!
-
I'm sorry, I didn't realize "realism" was necessary for a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The last one was so realistic with it's Aztec curse and skeleton pirates, I certainly hope this one is just as true to life.
-
Aye, matey!
Get it??????????????.....hello?..... -
Never seen the first film but between those two dudes and the Cthulhu pirate I'm totally going to see this thing in theaters. This franchise got funky fast.
-
they are relying on the merchandise revenue to cover their costs rather than box office takings... That way they don't have to make a good movie. Thundercats owners take note!
-
. . . did you know you had a steering wheel down the front of your pants??? YES, and it's drivin' me nuts!!!
-
Brodester needs to get out more...
-
Damn it, I thought AICN was tight with Rodriguez. What's the deal with Planet Terror? I wanna know, already!
-
why did the pirate break the other pirate's balls?...they weren't in a cannon. ha ha ha ha. that's funny shit. uh, anyone else above will be performing at uncle mcfuckity's chuckle hut this saturday night and you can expect many more gems like that.
-
Remember, this is DISNEY, and you know what? I like the pics, sure SHELLHEAD is a little goofy but if they turn out anything like the dude in the trailer (davey Jones I guess) I am excited. This is sorta tounge-in-cheek you particular bitching bastards, not oscar shit.
GEEZ. -
They're going with some very beautiful concepts. Personally, I'm in this just to see Bill Nighy in his C'thulu-suit.
-
Sequel-itis might be a problem with this series...I'm hoping the sequels don't just ride the coat tails of the first movie, but it probably will...Thanks a lot, Johnny Depp.
WHERE'S CHOCOLAT 2? -
Willy Wonka is really a gypsy.
-
What the hell, these designs ARE more out there than the creatures in the first film--but that's not saying it's terrible or that the first film was an Ivory Merchant film. And just because some of us call attention to it being more outrageous than we though--not even in an overly negative way mind you--we're just bastards who can't take a joke? Come one guys, we're all better than that.
-
Tough to digest those designs clean & sober.
-
Last time I checked this was a kids movie??? Designs are cool, I like em
-
Man, those graphics for Resident Evil 5 look pretty sweet.
-
That Hostel as has a misprint in it. It reads "Unrated version even sick and twisted than the original." I think it needs a "more" in there. And to think someone paid good money for to have that made.
-
I take back my complaine.
-
I didn't know that Rocksteady and Bebop were planned for the sequel.
-
Judging by these images, I think its safe to assume why no other website was reporting the news before them, too.
-
We've already seen the squid faced Captain.
-
Realism in a series that featured zombie skeleton pirates who were cursed by Aztec gold. Anyway, this doesn't look as lame as you think. Davey Jones himself looks awesome. Very cthultu-ish.
-
Pirates are gay. I mean c'mon. They're out to sea for months at a time with just each other. And they wear make-up. Kinda like Green Day.
-
it's a well known fact that pirates and sailors have "ship wives" while at sea. Otherwise knows as "bitches" in prison talk
-
Shell guy is okay... in a sort of funky Thai-statue-come-to-life kind of way... but that hammerhead guy (and the urchin guy we saw in the trailer) look so laughably stupid I can't help but think these were designed as a new action figure line instead of movie characters.
-
Anyone posting here who's in the DC area who might have a copy of Monday's 24? My wife swore blind she DVRd it and I just got back from California to find out that she didn't. Needless to say, bit pissed off right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated, including links to the ep if all else fails. Cheers.
-
...I'm loving these sea-creature/crewmen designs. But where's Urchinman? He was in the trailer with Hammerhead!
-
and we're JUST NOW getting concept drawings? Whadda scoop! If this were (was? I don't do grammer good.) 8 years ago you guys would have had the entire screenplay reviewd, with spy pictures from the set and everything! I mean think about it.... remember when you guys had "spies everywhere" and they were all too eager to break their friggin' necks to get you guys some unseen footage? Now technology has advanced so far that people could be sending you pictures (or video) of scenes being shot as they happen, but noooooooooooo! For whatever reason, (burnt bridges, not wanting to upset the studio that MIGHT give you money for you to make a movie yourself) you can't deliver anymore, so we get stuck with drawings of fish-men (or better yet, a "poster" for CARS that's accesible through the movie's website) as an exclusive. Whoopie. Thanks for nuthin' guys. Thanks. For Nuthin'.
-
those are cool desings. toys or not.
nice to see something interesting being done. -
I have always wanted to see a live action Ghost in the Shell... but this isnt exactly what I was hoping for.
-
By the way... did you hear the one about the pirate who had a price on his head? $2 ... because he was a buccaneer.
-
Other than for the money what possible reason could there be? Mickie James is the best female wrestler in the world! WOOOOOOO!
-
Ugh. I think my body just assimilated elements of boredom itself under the curse of spending too much time on this site. GIVE ME X3 NEWS YOU BASTARDS!!!
-
i just want to know. does he see out of all 4 eyes? i mean, he has the eyes on the sides and the anthropomorphic ones in front, so what the deal? i tell ya, if this guy's brain can comprehend the complex process of looking through 4 eyes in 3 different directions then you'd think he could figure out how to break the curse of davey jones. or maybe it just gives him a 24/7 headache. what do i know.
-
because they aarrr
-
what do I care I hated the first film. This validates everything. Shame because I WOULD have gone seen them.
-
okay i just wanted to say that. those pics are freaky! i can't wait til this movie comes out. it's gonna be so awesome - i had so little expectation for the first one and was blown away so i hope the second (and the third) live up to it!!!
-
The guy sees a man dressed up as a pirate so he desides to ask about the stereo type of the outfit. So he asks "whats with the Pirate suit?" /to which the Pirate replies (in full pirate delivery) "Arrrgh! yes me'arty, I am I pirate ye'see" Here's me beard - you gotta have the beard. all Good Pirates have a beard!" "I see" Says the passer by. "So tell me why you have to have a parrot on your shoulder" "Well matey, You're just no real Pirate if you got no Parrot on your shoulder, ysee" "Yes I see. so why to you have the wooden leg?" "I lost my leg to a shark, and got this wooden leg put here, and it's a good thing too because you're just no real Pirate if you got no wooden leg" "Ahuh. and whats with the hook?" "The hook! The HOOK!" (As he shakes his hook to the air proudly) "I lost my hand in a duel to the death -- But I'm not the one who be Dead lad. eh! he cut off me hand, and I cut off his head! This hook now sits where me hand used to be and you aint no real pirate without no hook on your stub." "Wow. so how did you get the eye patch? did you loose that fighting?" "No lad, me Parrot here shit in me eye." "the parrot shit in your eye?? but surely that wouldn't make you loose it and need a patch!!" "You're right lad, you're right.... But I'd only had the hook a lil while and I forgot I didn't have fingers to wipe it out!" (thank you)
-
That joke was awful, but it was also the best of the bunch so far. And to all you whiners, not only is this concept art, it's concept art for a Disney pirate movie. Jebus, you geeks'll bitch about anything.
-
that they fight a Kraken in this movie. Like a giant fucking squid creature. That is enough to get my ass in a seat.
-
A buck an ear!!! Aaaarrrgh!
-
Who's a pirate's favorite member of the creative team behind "32 Short Films About Glenn Gould"? Don McKellARRR.
-
They use the AARRRRRlectoral College.
I made that up. -
This is a HUGE SPOILER so don't read on if you don't want to know. And don't say I didn't warn you.
The giant kraken tries to sink the black pearl because it wants Jack. Elizabeth and Will are there as well. To save them, Liz kisses Jack (and this will be one of those special kisses, a kiss that lasts forever) and chains him to the mast while he's distracted. She says "I'm not sorry." He only answers "Pirate". Jack goes down with the Pearl and goes to purgatory. -
The kraken is Davey Jones "pet".
-
...before the terrible might of Conch Head! And if you're very quiet and don't scream, you may just hear the ocean echoing between his non ears as he...does whatever it is he intends to do to you. Assuming he can find you.
-
To get something off his chest
Gar!
-
...checked for a concussion. It looks like he got conch-ed in the head pretty good.
-
Me neither.
-
that is all.
-
"No lad, me Parrot here shit in me eye." "the parrot shit in your eye?? but surely that wouldn't make you loose it and need a patch!!" "First day with the hook..."
-
Anyway, first POTC is brilliant (except for the third act witch really needed tightening), and I am looking forward to this one, but it does kind of reek of a cash in on the success of the first.
-
witch should be which. Hoo boy.
-
You see, when I tried to tell the joke with the standard hand signals and facial expressions, none of you dumb cunts could make heads or tails of my post. yeah.
-
Because I like the designs and don't know any pirate jokes?
-
a young boy dressed as a pirate goes trick or treating alone. he comes to a neighbor's home..."Trick or treat!" "My! What have we here? A little pirate, I see. But where are your buccaneers?" "Under my buckin' hat."
-
"On the side of me buccenhead" I was going to write "Bucken,e'd" but I knew it would comfuse
-
and i'm not convinced it's better. in my version, the kid doesn't talk like a pirate either. i guess we've got a regular Aristocrats here.
-
Wasn't that a disney cartoon? and this is a disney movie talkback. are you a disney stooge? it all makes sense! I'm on to you, man.
-
"Arrrrrr, that's not a turkey, it's a parrot."/ "I was speaking to the parrot."
-
They look like the album cover to Ween's "The Mollusk."
-
If you can't write a joke correctly, then no amount of "hand signals" are going to help the delivery. Sorry. And the punchline that HypeEndsHere used works better than the alternate you gave. So he didn't "fuck up the joke" like you posted.
-
welcome to aint it cool news, where i's MUST be dotted and the t's MUST be crossed. The Jokes must be perfect and the critism must be harsh. enjoy your stay.
-
Did you hear the one about the pirate with hooks for ears?.........Neither did he! Okay, I'm done.
-
Somebody seen way too many episodes of Street Sharks, or TMNT...this is ridiculous. People get paid for making shitty drawings like this? Damn.
-
When you claim that you could have adapted Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings better than what we ended up getting, and then you can't write a simple joke...
-
..for the Shellhead and Hammerhead Sideshow collectible!! I thought Bender's comments were pure gold!!
-
But it's threads like these that make me wish we had a live action "Curse of Monkey Island" movie, as well as the sequels. Hugh Grant for Guybrush Threepwood, sans the accent?
-
Incidently I just spent two weeks watching the EE. adapted better? Dude, my version would have been so far removed it would be in a whole different league. get off the subject would ya?
-
You wrote: "Dude, my version would have been so far removed it would be in a whole different league". What does that even mean? What are you trying to say?
-
I'm saying, the reason my adaptions would have been different would be because I'd have followed a 3 act structure and not let each film run over 2.5 hours. There's a thousand people who would disagree with me. There's a thousand who would wouldn't. It's fantasy talk - You took a passing remark and have made it as if I've laid claim to something. I haven't. It's a simple statement - I write differently. I adapt differently. I also shoot and edit differently. It's just the way it is. You want to cut me down for saying I think I could adapt the Lord of the rings into better Scripts, go for it. I have my notes. I have my own integrity. dude, I could have adpted the lord of the rings into better script. But chances are the only people who would agree are those who think the current Lord of the rings are to bloody long and over blown. Respect to Peter Jackson and his films. but he's not the only person in the world who knows his shit.
