Aaarrrr! AICN Exclusive PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST images!!!!

Published at:  Apr 18, 2006 3:06:39 PM CDT

Sharks... why'd it have to be sharks... Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a pair of nifty little character comparison stills exclusive to you guys. What we have below are two of Davy Jones' crew... I'm thinking they look a little like Mike Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz after a nasty run in with the Beach Boys. Anyway, the below are looks at two of Jones' main henchmen in the flick. You'll see an evolution of the characters... a maquette, a rough digital form and the final form of each of the two characters. Disney wanted this to be known:

"Here's a first look at conceptual designs and maquette busts of two members from Davy Jones' crew. Hadras & Maccus sail aboard the Flying Dutchman, their bodies assimilating elements of the sea itself under the curse of Davy Jones."

I love the crazy design of these guys and based on the previous film, the trailer for this one and all the design work we've seen so far... count me greatly excited for the sequel. If it's half as fun as the first, it could still be better than most of the other summer blockbusters. Enjoy the pics (oh, and click on the pics below to get larger versions):

Were these designed with toys in mind or what?

    by drath

Okay, these look like character design ideas more than images from the movie itself, which I guess is all anyone expected judging from the talkback. So looking at these, I gotta say they look like characters designed for a cartoon show or action figure line. It's Masters of the Carribean Universe! Not that this is a bad thing exactly, although why the hell they can't make Thundercats or MotU into a movie when they can make this, I'll never know.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize "realism" was necessary for a Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The last one was so realistic with it's Aztec curse and skeleton pirates, I certainly hope this one is just as true to life.

What the hell, these designs ARE more out there than the creatures in the first film--but that's not saying it's terrible or that the first film was an Ivory Merchant film. and we're JUST NOW getting concept drawings? Whadda scoop! If this were (was? I don't do grammer good.) 8 years ago you guys would have had the entire screenplay reviewd, with spy pictures from the set and everything! I mean think about it.... remember when you guys had "spies everywhere" and they were all too eager to break their friggin' necks to get you guys some unseen footage? Now technology has advanced so far that people could be sending you pictures (or video) of scenes being shot as they happen, but noooooooooooo! For whatever reason, (burnt bridges, not wanting to upset the studio that MIGHT give you money for you to make a movie yourself) you can't deliver anymore, so we get stuck with drawings of fish-men (or better yet, a "poster" for CARS that's accesible through the movie's website) as an exclusive. Whoopie. Thanks for nuthin' guys. Thanks. For Nuthin'.

    Pirate Jokes...... A??

    by bendersshinyass

The guy sees a man dressed up as a pirate so he desides to ask about the stereo type of the outfit. So he asks "whats with the Pirate suit?" /to which the Pirate replies (in full pirate delivery) "Arrrgh! yes me'arty, I am I pirate ye'see" Here's me beard - you gotta have the beard. all Good Pirates have a beard!" "I see" Says the passer by. "So tell me why you have to have a parrot on your shoulder" "Well matey, You're just no real Pirate if you got no Parrot on your shoulder, ysee" "Yes I see. so why to you have the wooden leg?" "I lost my leg to a shark, and got this wooden leg put here, and it's a good thing too because you're just no real Pirate if you got no wooden leg" "Ahuh. and whats with the hook?" "The hook! The HOOK!" (As he shakes his hook to the air proudly) "I lost my hand in a duel to the death -- But I'm not the one who be Dead lad. eh! he cut off me hand, and I cut off his head! This hook now sits where me hand used to be and you aint no real pirate without no hook on your stub." "Wow. so how did you get the eye patch? did you loose that fighting?" "No lad, me Parrot here shit in me eye." "the parrot shit in your eye?? but surely that wouldn't make you loose it and need a patch!!" "You're right lad, you're right.... But I'd only had the hook a lil while and I forgot I didn't have fingers to wipe it out!" (thank you)

This is a HUGE SPOILER so don't read on if you don't want to know. And don't say I didn't warn you.
The giant kraken tries to sink the black pearl because it wants Jack. Elizabeth and Will are there as well. To save them, Liz kisses Jack (and this will be one of those special kisses, a kiss that lasts forever) and chains him to the mast while he's distracted. She says "I'm not sorry." He only answers "Pirate". Jack goes down with the Pearl and goes to purgatory.

But it's threads like these that make me wish we had a live action "Curse of Monkey Island" movie, as well as the sequels. Hugh Grant for Guybrush Threepwood, sans the accent?

You wrote: "Dude, my version would have been so far removed it would be in a whole different league". What does that even mean? What are you trying to say?

I'm saying, the reason my adaptions would have been different would be because I'd have followed a 3 act structure and not let each film run over 2.5 hours. There's a thousand people who would disagree with me. There's a thousand who would wouldn't. It's fantasy talk - You took a passing remark and have made it as if I've laid claim to something. I haven't. It's a simple statement - I write differently. I adapt differently. I also shoot and edit differently. It's just the way it is. You want to cut me down for saying I think I could adapt the Lord of the rings into better Scripts, go for it. I have my notes. I have my own integrity. dude, I could have adpted the lord of the rings into better script. But chances are the only people who would agree are those who think the current Lord of the rings are to bloody long and over blown. Respect to Peter Jackson and his films. but he's not the only person in the world who knows his shit.
