April 16, 2006, 12:36 a.m. CST
They already violently raped Scorcese a few times. I still just do not get it. I'm not going to be a typical talkbacker and just call it horrible or say it sucks or that you all have bad taste. I think it just doesn't appeal to me. The writing is good, the direction is fine but seems a bit hacked at times. I just cannot make it through an episode. And I do like the genre. When the show started I saw great potential, but I soon lost interest.

we all saw it coming. when finn caught vito giving the b.j. to the security i knew finn was going to pay.
April 16, 2006, 1:45 a.m. CST
what i meant to sat was finn got into tom sawyer type trouble when he witnessed vito giving a hummer to a security guard. he should have taken the the invitation to the baseball game, given up his virgin ass and got it over with. Now vito has been drooling for two years and it will result in a rapr strewn from frustration. Finn should have faced the music and then dealt with it. Meadow would have stood by him as vito got a serious come uppance.
April 16, 2006, 2:33 a.m. CST
why assume that vito does the raping? something's wrong with meadow and finn....well, of course, I doubt vito would resist, so I guess it does have to be him. Funny thought to reverse it, though.

Sopranos episodes deserve repeat viewing. If you like Goodfellas, and it seems you do, you are a good candidate to become obsessed with the Sopranos. In my opinion it is better than anything that has been produced by either TV or film in a long time. Mr Chase has created a brilliant drama and comedy all rolled into one. James Gandolfini and Edie Falco deserve every single one of their emmys. I accept that people have different taste, but this is a show that is going to cast a long shadow over television for decades to come. The Citizen Kane/Ulysses/Watchmen of TV. Those who have watched it know the truth.

I mean, this is a storyline that was mentioned in a previous season and now it's actually GOING somewhere! This isn't typical David Chase. He usually hooks us with a great set-up, then just totally forgets it. It's like having sex with a great looking chick, but you are not allowed to ever...ever...climax.

I can hear it starting.... "having the gay man rape someone is prejudice and stereotypical blah blah." I have a brother who was raped. It's not about gay/straight/sex or anything like that. It's about power, as many rape victims will tell you. Vito needs power, as does every wiseguy, and will take it wherever he can get it.

Way to have a spoiler-free talkback, guys. It's INVISOTEXT. That means some people don't read it and then come here to comment and what? Every comment was about the damn invisotext. (sigh) Anyway, I read an interview with the actor who plays Vito and he was saying that he has been modeling his portrayal on a real guy. The mob ended up not giving a damn he was gay because he got the job done so well. Unfortunately, I don't necessarily think things will pan out the same way for the carrot chomper.
April 16, 2006, 12:29 p.m. CST
As a gay guy myself, I'm not at all offended by a gay character raping someone on TV, as I am not currently aware of the apparent stereotype that gay guys raped people all the time. I FULLY get that it

Much like Brokeback, not even gay sex could make that a good show. And fuck people who think that just because he's a fat mobster doesn't mean he can't fit a gay stereotype. Mattchew, one stereotype is that gay men can't resist hitting on or finding a way to fuck straight men. I'm more offended by the fact that he's fat and old, though.

Which is kinda "eh" but none the less entertaining. The thing I love about watching the Sopranos is all the stuff certain characters in the dark about everything don't know. For Example, Vito is actually the Bane of Meadow's existence and she'll never know that. He killed Jackie Jr., he's going to rape and possibly kill her boyfriend, he's even contemplated whacking her mother. And she thinks he's a sweat guy who wouldn't hurt a fly. Sil murdered Adriana like a lame sick dog and Carmela will never know that. That's deep sick shit.

But it would be hard to have a talkback if youre not allowed to mention the purpose of the news article. And youd be an idiot to avoid the spoilers by not reading the invisiotext but then go read the talkback

Count me among those who don't understand why so much has been made of this show. It's OK, but not worth the price you pay for HBO. Better non-premium cable shows include LOST, 24, and BSG. Even the OC and ALIAS, back when they were good, were better than the Sopranos. It's not bad, but it's by no means great television.

You have to think of it from the minds of older men who are in the mafia. These guys have all ruthlessly killed for reasons beyond money. People who are hating this season (and I think there's more than a few) couldn't have been happy with yet another odd, deliberate, meditative episode. I thought it was, like the previous few, fascinating without being completely satisfying. It's compelling to watch a show that is willing to defy expectations by going all sorts of strange places, despite knowing fan reaction is likely to be very mixed... Chase has proven time and time again that He doesn't much give a fuck what people think.

I look foward to the male-sodomy episode. Why? Because great cinema always involves male-sodomy! Remember the movie Deliverance? Ned Beatty sqealing like a pig made my bones rattle! Wheee! Wheee! Wheeeeee! How about Pulp Fiction? "Bring out the gimp." The sodomy and eventual revenge appealed to my sense of justice. How about the Shawshank Redemption? Prison rape is a classic theme to explore in the movies. And let us not forget male-sodomy in televison. Benito Martinez's character (in The Shield) forced to give head at gunpoint gave way to great plot development. MORE MALE-SODOMY!!!

I'm surprised by their reaction because wasn't is just last season when Tony was almost in tears late one night when he was sitting on the couch talking with Uncle Junior when he finally realizes that his mind is deteriorating to the point of no return...that scene alone shows Tony believing that Junior is no longer himself so why all of a sudden would he think otherwise?...plus if Junior was faking and intentionally shot Tony why wouldn't he just finish him off?...he had plenty of opportunity to pump him with 5-6 more bullets but instead he just ran upstairs and hid in a closet...that proves his illness is real...I can understand the mob guys angry reaction because they don't know Junior like Tony does...Tony should have let everyone know that Junior did not do it on purpose and to give him a pass

I am confused that sometimes people talk down seasons 3 through 5 of the Sopranos. I love the first 2 seasons, but just because the show has slowed down its pacing desn't mean it has gotten worse. The writing and performances are still without peer. I think it may be a symptom of the cast expanding (with Anthony Jr and Meadow growing up and having more to do, it was inevtible). The later seasons have had classic storylines (Ralphy, Adriana etc.) Season four was a perfect slowburn storyline ending with the brilliant Whitecaps. Great stuff!

good ep...let's not get carried away though. It was too preachy and didactic as some of the other recent episodes have been. Go morn Arrested Development, the worst show to get high praise ever, and stop watching The Sopranos if you don't like character development and just want to see people get wacked. better. It is easily one of the top 5 TV shows of all time. Great episode, the intertwining of the quiet despondency of Vito in New Hampshire and the bravado and humour of Capos bac in Jersey. Also put to bed any of those thoughts that Tony paid the driver to take a beating.
April 17, 2006, 6:44 a.m. CST

Vito's choice seems to fit nicely on those license plates. What will he choose now that it seems Tony may be willing to let him come back into the fold IF he returns? What, also, to make of Carmela? Why does she keep bothering Tony to make sure that house problem gets resolved for her? Does she see the potential of power that she could have and start to take these matters into her own hands? What about Finn and Meadow's relationship? Someone mentioned above that Finn could have trouble performing and cause problems with Meadow if the rumor is true of a possible problem with Vito. The reason why this show is so good is because they have created something that allows itself to evolve. Some may call it boring, but if you look between the lines, there is a lot going on. Why does there have to be somebody getting killed for everyone to wake up? This show is rich with substance.

I am comedically challenged when it comes to my cinematic/telematic tastes -- it's rare that comedies of any stripe really resonate with me the way good dramas do. That said, I can't stop watching ENTOURAGE. I think Vince and his friends are basically good-natured cads, and some of their antics are absolutely reprehensible from my advanced 38-yr vantage point... but hot damn, how can you resist this series, which has the exuberant feel of Richard Linklater's DAZED AND CONFUSED -- that freewheeling, free-to-be atmosphere that is all-too-hard to find nowadays. DAZED was a watershed moment for me; made me really SEE exactly what my generation and those since missed out on... the early 70s' freedoms, before we all knew waaaaay too friggin much about drugs, alcohol poisoning, road rage, and sexually transmitted diseases to really have the same level of fun. ENTOURAGE? Same deal -- the joyful exuberance of a culture that is absolutely free from all modern oppressive Real Life(TM) crap, from 9-11 paranoia to AIDS to paying the muthafuckin bills. Go, Vince, go! Eat the world, you fabulous bastard. And keep your boys close. Nothing in the world like your three best friends, ya know. Here's to you, Steamer!

Only something as monsterous as her boyfriend being raped and her father's failure to act/react would turn her against her dad. Her mother's being shown to contemplate putting 'money on the street', having failed in real estate, which will make Meadow despise her mother as just another mobster. Meadow wants to become a lawyer helping the oppressed but is dismissed by her employers as 'Tony Soprano's daughter' - her only way to redeem herself is to take down her own father. The first episode of the series was about the FBI needing a new informer - the guy didn't want to do it and hung himself. Everything is written towards a conclusion in the last series of a show - everything is being set up to justify Meadow doing this.

There was a big "Boom" and then the "oh, fuck" moment...we'll see next week (or not). Who knew that New Hampshire was Gay Heaven??? I'd have thought it'd have been Key West or San Fran.

They weighed the pro's and con's of same sex fugging and nobody died. The only saving grace was Meadow putting on her panties.

It'll never happen. She's always been defensive of the family. She'll get drawn in more if anything since she's like Livia in her manipulative ways. If the series went on long enough, I'm sure she'd be the first female boss. NEVER an informant though!

Since she's volunteering in the white collar crime cases, I think the fat chick lawyer may try to exploit Meadow to try and corner the market in mob legal fees. I don't know how many other dudes did this, but I'll be honest and confess that I did rewind my DVR and slo-mo'd through Meadow pulling her drawers on to try and get a shot of her landing strip. By the way, who was Vinny from Doogie Howser jacking in the face in the preview while yelling, "You want some more of this!!"? Somebody wearing a pin-striped suit. Crissy or Lil Carmine maybe??

I was just thinking about when he was calling directory assistance and couldn't track down any of his family members - that would also fit in with this whole theory

And my theory is that it's actually MEADOW who whacks him to save Finn halfway through the rape scene in some clumsy Sopranos death along the lines of Janice killing Richie Aprile or Tony killing Joey Pant's character over the horse.

Anything from your source as to why he was so very WRONG?? Did the revulsion from the scene prompt them to cut it, or was there another reason?
