But Seriously...THANK YOU MITCHELL. But, you know, as much as I like The Office, My Name is Earl and Scrubs- none of them hold a candle to AD at it's best. Not even Curb does. God, I'll miss Gob.

    by paulh

That AD didn't get one chance after another to try to find its audience. Sometimes a show is just too far out there for its own good. It wasn't just Fox's fault. The show ultimately was too inaccessible to the regular TV viewer. It happens.

    Wow...This is terrible...

    by danielkurland

Look at what network TV and FOX has done to a brilliant man. This man was an incredibly capable writer with an Emmy winning show, and solely because of the grief and stress that the network placed on him, he is so jaded that he will not continue with this show. Just imagine how long it could have gone on if it was with a "supportive" network. In the final season, FOX was telling Hurwitz to make the show 30 percent dumber. Can you imagine that? Being told to remove jokes and put in "middle America humor"? It'd be terrible. So yes, this is really too bad, because under different circumstances the show could have gone on longer. I'm just upset that with the way the show was treated in it's final year, it may not be up for the Emmy accolades that it was last year, and it definitely deserves some for it's final year. It looks like I'm falling back on The Offie, Veronica Mars (if you cancel this, I'm done), and what I am assuming will be the brilliant, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip...Maybe Hurwitz will do a new show in the future...

    More thoughts...

    by danielkurland

At least the finale was a proper bookend to the series, as a 4th season obviously would have negated (not that I would have minded). It just is such a shame to say goodbye to these wonderful characters...Rob Thomas of Veronica Mars fame stated that if AD wasn't picked up, the roles he has given Alia Shawkat and Michael Cera in this Wednesday's Veronica Mars episode could/would be recurring/regular next season, as he'd be happy to give them steady work. This would be fantastic if it happened.

migrate to the Office next season. Hell, put Gob on the show. They could rationalize it, it could make sense, and seeing him and Michael (Scott, not Bluth) argue would be terrific.

    by oatmeal2348

It's better to have laughed and lost then to watch a great show hold on too long.
But what about a spinoff with George Michael and Maibe ... romantically attracted semi-cousins who solve mysteries and fight crime!
Give it a darker, dramatic twist like the Lou Grant spinoff. Late in the first season, when it's about to be cancelled, they can have special guests, like Uncle Buster, who has begun hearing voices and killing people with his new mechanical hand.
    Never mind, that sucks ...
    God I miss this show.

guys seriously, AD is a self contained huge story arc which started off brilliant and ended brilliant, tieing up all the loose ends. Its time to let it go and on a high note, might i add. Do we want a season of a rehashed plot going nowhere and then getting unresolved and cancelled?

it ended well, everything was wrapped up. It had a lot of chances, although some may argue about Fox switching slots. I guess it just wasn't mainstream enough which was good and bad. I still think NBC should've picked it up and paired it with Scrubs. Or imagine the return to Must See glory they would've had with Earl, Office, Scrubs and AD. God damn they would've had a lot of us glued to the couch for 2 hours. Oh well at least we have our dvd's.

    by supertoyslast

I guess Showtime couldn't manage a budget high enough to do the show justice. I had hoped that they might have done shorter runs to bring the cost down a bit. A 10-13 episode could have worked. But it seemed obvious that AD wasn't coming back since Buster signed up for all those pilots. Ah well. I can but hope that Hurwitz will make another show soon. Hopefully on cable - but I guess not Showtime.

I think you would have to go all the way back to Homicide: Life on the Street, and even they came back with an unnessecary movie. Be glad that the show didn't go out gasping and resting on it's past glory like so many a "Friends."

    I admire his honesty.

    by napoleon park

michael Hurvitz said - and I'm totally paraphrasing here - that he's quitting Arrested D-- because he was totally burnt out on it. and creatively spent. he poured everything he had into maintaining that high level of quality for three years and that's really all he had in him. he then goes on to add that the showtime deal was practically in place but there wasn;t enough money involved - at least not enough heading his way. He rather bravely concludes that if there had been enough money offered he would have quite happily sold out, churned out a few years of crap, let the shows quality decline and signed the checks, but we were spared that debacle because there wasn;t enough cash involved. *** he also says he's serve as consultant if they continue without him, but will NOT be showrunner or writer... although he would be interesting in working on a feature film version. Yes, that was, of course, the series punchline joke in the final episode.
