Pics from Dreamworks SKG's EL DORADO
Well here we go with the second group of images from the second Dreamworks traditional animated film... EL DORADO. These came in from a Chilean Film Magazine that just came out, unfortunatly I do not know the title, but they show the other side of EL DORADO from the pic I had up of the lovely Chel (I think that's her name, I'll get it right one of these days) One thing I forgot to mention last time was this film will take full advantage of the hand-painted backgrounds, but will incorporate the computer to move them, to play with the lights, contrasts, textures, etc. I'm excited about this flick, I can't help it, I spent a lot of my early years around Mayan ruins in Palenque, Tikal, etc... And the look they've done is just dead to rights. Enjoy...

That looks...really, really, really bad.
In bad taste, even, deformed little pygmy children... -
What exactly is the premise for El Dorado? And personally, I don't think that people should be so hard on the pictures, even though they weren't as cool as the previous ones posted here with Chel. I have faith in Dreamworks, and I doubt they will go merchendise crazy.

"El Dorado" is "The Man Who Would Be King?" Goddamn. There already is a perfectly grand pic to the Kipling novel. What next? An animated Conrad short? Some Elton John song to assuage the death of Nostromo or Lord Jim?

why,oh why do Dreamworks,Fox and Warner have to copy Disney's awful graphical style?Everything cleanly drawn and defined, nothing left to the imagination,no interpretation,no poetic licence.Go to any festival of animated short films and you will see dozens of inventive graphical styles, each stimulating the imagination in different ways.
Will big-budget animated films never break free from the outdated and tiresome Disney formula? -
First off, why are people getting upset that DreamWorks is updating Kipling? How many of the films made in the last decade have not been remakes, based on books, or simply retreading old formulas. And anyone mad at DreamWorks for copying the Disney formula should see this summer's "Mulan." Disney made the most formulaic animated film to date and did it badly. And why call this studio DrekWorks? Did anyone see "Saving Private Ryan"? And on the animated front, "Antz" was a brilliant, landmark work, and a step towards more adult themed animated film which if I recall Disney has never made. Isn't it about time to admit that many of you wannabe critics hate Speilberg
because he can be both artistically and financially successful. If you're not attacking "Saving Private Ryan" for being "manipulative", you're attacking his company DreamWorks. Sure "Small Soldiers" was dreadful , but what studio doesn't experience missteps. I for one loved "SPG", "Antz," and am sure to enjoy "Prince of Egypt." Any film and animation fan should be glad to see a studio other than Disney trying to produce quality animated work. And be honest with yourselves? If some of you Disney purists held "Mulan" and "Pocahontas" to the same standards that you hold other animated works, you'd realize they are pretty mediocre films. Not to mention the recent straight to video debacles Disney is quickly releasing in order to cash in on the booming kid vid market. I think DreamWorks is finally hitting its stride and, as a film fan, I can't wait to see what they release next. -
Does anyone think this looks alot similar to the 80's anime "the mysterious cities of gold"? The location and presumably the art will be the same. Check out http://www.whimsy.demon.co.uk/gold for more info

Is Ralph Bakshi directing "El Daredo?" WAY cool Hope it's as cool as "American Pop."
-
Looks like an old DOLE pineapple commercial ad from the fifties. If I see one more movie about the SPANISH coming into the AMERICAS and not showing the reality of the greedy and racist god loving Catholics taking aim at a beautiful indiginous society Iam gonna puke.On the other hand I hope they have good songs.

This looks just terrible.Once again,a big-budget animated film is being made by a studio unwilling to take any artistic risks.El Dorado looks visually identical to any one of the medioce offerings of Disney over the last two decades. Why are Dreamworks copying the Disney formula? As a new studio they have the opportunity to be innovative but instead are just giving us reheated Disney animation.THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES TO THE DISNEY STYLE.I have seen many short animated films made with NO BUDGET that are powerfully creative, exploring different ways of telling a story through animation.Even Tim Burton's NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS was a refreshing departure from the normal Disney rubbish AND it was commercially successful.
Won't somebody try to do something new?
