Art yesterday, film images today... PAN'S LABYRINTH. Damn this looks cool!
SPOILER ALERT !!
Hey folks, Harry here... our foreign friend, MathesonLegends sent a second set of pics from that European Magazine involving PAN'S LABYRINTH... only while that first set was some of the legendary stunning artwork of William Stout... Here we have images from the actual film. And damn if this doesn't look amazing. The story is essentially that of... no, you shouldn't know the story. Just know that it set in the Spanish Civil War period again and involves the phantasmagorical and a little girl. And this isn't just one of those sweet fairy tales... this is one of those other fairy tales - and it's sweet in its way... like the way blood tastes from an accidental cut. You'll see. Let's get to the pics...

Come on!!
-
The others look like leftovers from a Hellraiser sequel. Is the fleshy dude supposed to be the Nerve Ghost?
-
I am really getting tired of these sequels.
-
Ohh that goat sure looks angry!
What whas the news about again?? -
It's a complete shame how you promote crap for your "friends" while slamming other things. I don't see how you can say that these pictures look cool and build up any type of excitement for this crappy looking flick.
This is going to be worse than that crap Blade 2 movie that is completely unwatchable!! -

Looks good. I particularly like the look of the eye-less demon.
This is the sort of nightmarish quality that hollywood horror usually lacks, favouring flashy effects and thing being black and poorly lit. -
I have to say, this looks better than Blade 2 and Hellboy!. looking forward to it!
-
I dont think I could handle another movie with badly-acted voice overs *having flash backs of "High Tension"...* This looks good but the voice-overs are gonna pull me out of the "illusion".
-
I agree, dubbing sure ruins a movie, however, the dubbing for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" actually explained more of the story than the subtitles, but I blame that more on the subs than vice-versa. The only films that should be allowed to be dubbed are bad bad bad kung fu movies, because that just makes them funnier.
-
out of labrynth.
-
Because they're not gamers and don't realize alot of this stuff is taken from video games. Harry's like, wow that's original. No it's not. That looks like the game, the suffering.

It looks like it will be another memorable Fantasy film
by the 12th monkey
Movie looks like it will be awesome, and knowing Guillermo it will be something special. His movies always improve from one to the other, and it looks like this time he just uped the ante. Those pics are fantastic!
-
So where in the suffering do you fight a centaur/dryad looking guy?
The eyeless dude kinda looks like those blade demons from the suffering but loosely at best. Yeah, I don't think they pulled this stuff from the suffering. -
Actually, when i said ahhh, the suffering, i was referring to hellraiser. You gotta admit, there is a certain hellraiser feel to it, isnt there? Still, I say it looks pretty cool. Teenage cool, but nifty nonetheless
-
I mean, uh... looks cool, yeah!
-
lopoks like a great flick to me!
-
damn typos...i can't wait to see a new dark fantasy film...first flick i remember seeing like this was legend...and i liked it..and then nightbreed which hurts cause it got a lot right and a lot wrong...anyways...and while the setup sounds like labyrinth i can't wait to see the details that make it different!
-
"This is going to be worse than that crap Blade 2 movie that is completely unwatchable!!" -- Dude, you really crapped on your credibility with that one. I suppose you also think Underworld is hot shit or something.
-
I was refering to orionsangels post about the movie looking like something from the suffering. Yeah, I can see the hellraiser vibe going on there with the guy with the eyes in the palms of his hands. I just don't see the suffering reference but none the less, I hope this is a good as it looks.
-
I don't know what version of Blade 2 you saw (perhaps the David Goyer edited version) because that movie not only rocked, but was the best of the trilogy.
And I have gotta agree with Killah_Mate on this one, normal-guy. To attack a film with serious balls like Blade 2(without any real justification) shows how little your view is worth.
You may not be a fan of Guillermo del Toro's work, but it's undeniable that he is a man of vision, and that his films tend to bring fresh ideas to traditional subject like vampires (Chronos) and the ghost story (The Devil's Backbone).
I also expect that Pan's Labyrinth will take us to places that Jim Henson's Labyrith only hinted at, despite posts that dwell on the relatively minor things, like the resemblance of character(s) in one film with characters in the other.
-
...you have absolutely no taste whatsoever. I can hardly wait to see this at the Drafthouse. Heaven.
-
She looks to me like a
literate, *substantive* character
. . .and those are always my
favorites. Looking forward to this. :) -
Then that old looking dude is a you-know-what-else. Grody to the max, but artful.
-
You're not on their payroll. bottom line is we've all seen too much at this point to be impressed by this.
-
What is this, a Hellraiser movie?

It's not identical, but it has that vibe from suffering

Just look at the palm of it's hand ..................

Actually, I am a
-
All of them did.
-
Trying to keep myself blissfully ignorant, but can't help peeking at the pics. Looks like Del Toro is taking cues from Clive Barker.
-
If you consider those flicks dreck, then what do you consider good fantasy? Not a flame and I agree with you about RETURN TO OZ, but the other three you mentioned were fantastic in my opinion.
-
And suffering has the hellraiser vibe and hellraiser has something else's vibe. I'm sure the focal point of creativity all started when a cave man farted and we are all just copying off of that. Regardless, it looks good and I'll try to see it.
-
from a sabertooth cat next cave over. I read it in wikipedia

I don't know, maybe the Blade 2 I saw about the reapers with the piss-poor, absolutely terrible cgi was different than the one you people are spewing over. It was just on again the other day and I really had to laugh at how terrible the special effects are.
Oh wait, why am I responding! That's probably just Harry signing on with a different name to back up his love-buddies movies again. -
hellraiser had it's own thing going. I'd say the movie seven or nine inch nails video has more in common. it's those filthy rooms, that house a big tub sink and the walls and ground seem to be stained in blood. the film has scratches and jumps a bit. that disturbing look. that started in the 90s
-
You just did more snoop work than the bozos in charge of this site. That thing had been out the whole time and said morons were busy giving us pencil sketches. I swear to G-d I'm gonna give up this site if it keeps up like this! Oh, and the trailer was cool. The Grudge sound effects were a bit much, but otherwise interesting.
-
I'll betcha that dollars to donuts that harry intentionally did it. First, the sketches to get us interested. Then *surprise* stills that magically appear the next day (today). Tommorrow, the trailor will be presented. Its a way to pique interest in a film like this. I wouldnt put it past Harry with his history of pimping for del Torro. either that, or they were just dicking around and mismanaging this site for a the past few days. Take your pick.
-
it's not this one is it?
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22115 -
is now deemed the official unscoopable asshat of the talkbacks.
-
Well, can you blame me for thinking that, whatyoufear? For crying out loud, if the trailor is out, than why the hooplah over stills that are directly from the fucking trailor??? I can't help it this site is displaying things in a bass ackwards manner. What do you expect me or others who have never even heard of this flick to think? jerk
-
I meant to say what do you expect me, or others, to think when we have never heard of this movie? jerk comment still stands, though
-
if you had taken the time to read the actual article, it is clearly stated that these new stills were taken from a magazine- NOT the trailer that was mentioned on JANUARY 3RD. and it is TRAILER with a fucking E.
-
to me- i'm betting the goat creature is an update of the drawing, judging by its wooden arms, and the other thing looks to have one eye in the center of its head, altho i guess it could be a mouth. and seriously, some of you assholes are just never going to be happy with anything.
-
I swear, nothing more rude than an anal retentive webster wannabe. And if you check out those stills from the magazine, they are directly lifted from the trailer. Or did you watch it?
-
at least now you can tell everyone you were taught the correct spelling of the word "trailer" by an anal retentive webster wannabe jerk. unscoopable asshat comment still stands, though.
-
glad to see satisfaction is always one of perspective. I wish you look in your quest to prove yourself correct through catching the spelling errors made from people who could honestly care less. But hey, son, whatever floats your boat.
-
Quick, call captain anal, err..whatyoufear. Feel free to critique my post for all spelling and grammatical errors. Be sure to check out those split- infinitives, too. They can be tricky;) Oh, and when you have found sufficient time to create and properly edit a comeback, try to be original and not simply rework my own post. Thorst sort of I toddler style imitation only goes so far. But hey, what do I know? I spell words wrong, right?
-
argument. *sigh* I'm hopeless.
-
those stills are nowhere to be seen in the trailer we have been discussing. fancy that! i wish i could quit you.
-
Is that jelly made out of blood on his table? Cos it sure looks like it.
-
it just seems to me that there is a mixed bag of people out there that don't like films that are fancifull and fun. i actually bumped into somebody in the real world who can not stand legend. the movie won an academy award and though that means little now it's movies like legend and labyrinth that allowed lord of the rings to be made...it's like the homophobic guys that are tested for positive sexual reactions to gay porn and they liked it lol...only worse...these guys think fantasy films = children movies which = immature children's cartoons...and i say that's bullshidt posturing. if you can't enjoy movies like that then chances are you got some serious emotional problems...mythology is supposed to help send messages that are serious but covered with the trappings of surreal images...most crap out there.
-
I agree that about two or three scenes in the movies had bad CGI (the digital doubles), but the rest was, in fact, I'm sorry to say, awesome. Especially considering the budget they had to work with. The CGI doesn't have to be perfect to be cool - that's why I'll enjoy the Blade II effects many more times, while I have no intention of seeing Revenge of the Sith more than the once. In any case, the quality of the CGI does not determine the quality of the movie - that's why they're called "movies" and not "FX reels". (Case in point - Revenge of the Sith)
-
otherwise all we'll have is a lot of crap like When A Stranger Calls and Freedomland clogging up the theaters. And freinds, there is no plunger big enough.
-
This movie looks awesome so far and weird as all get out. I hope Del Toro doesn't hold back and we get the weirdest sickest fantasy movie ever. I'm glad they are getting away from excessive CGI. It's not needed as much as a good story line is. I personally think these critters look like some of Wayne D. Barlowe's art myself... but then, who really cares. Everything is a mimicry of something else.. you might as well blame the concept artist for ripping off goats! "Yuck, goats that's like so done! I remember goats at old McDonald's farm - he totally ripped that off! Gee Whiz!" Go Toro!!!!!!
