Get your first look at Eddie and Jamie in DREAMGIRLS!!!

Published at:  Feb 20, 2006 3:20:47 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the newest on Bill Condon's musical DREAMGIRLS. The Dreamworks Fansite has the first pics up of Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx from the flick. I must say, Eddie reminds me a whole lot of his brother in one of the pimp sketches from Chappelle's Show. He also looks a whole like vintage SNL James Brown Eddie Murphy. I hope to everything that is holy that this film marks a return to form for Eddie Murphy and awakens him from his family film daze. We miss ya', Eddie! Come home!

    Usual Murphy Bullshit

    by irishjoe

This isnt going to be any return to form for Eddie, this is some lame ass family movie. How do i know?? cos Beyonce Knowles is in it and she wont even appear in a movie that has swearing in it. Jamie Foxx is probably in it because he has "Cuba Gooding Jr" tendencies. Cuba did a movie where Beyonce sang and that was a turd. By the way!! stop casting her, she is not an actress and i will not watch a movie with her in it.

    Eddie Murphy just biding time

    by bass ackwards

He's eventually gonna follow Jamie Foxx's lead and make his Oscar run with a Stevie Wonder biopic, you know it to be true.

Why is this movie being made into such a big deal?

    by led gopher

I don't get it? I agree Beyonce isn't much of an actress. She is playing a singer in this movie. Wow, what dramatic range she has.
Just like she played a sassy black woman in the last Austin Powers flick, truly a stretch in character for her as well.

Eddie Murphy has pretty much pissed his career away doing tripe family films, he has been okay in some of them, but when you look back at his stand-up or movies like '48 Hours' and 'Beverly Hills Cop', it is as if you are watching a completely different person than the Eddie we see today. We know he is capable of being a bit more mature, but all we see him do is tons of 'Dr. Doolittle' and 'Nutty Professor' flicks.

Also, this is a musical and while I do enjoy musicals, I don't see this website as the place for the target audience of this film. It seems to me that most of the people here are into, Sci-Fi, Horror, Action, Comedy, and TV shows.

What is next, news about upcomming made-for-TV movies to be aired on Oxygen and Lifetime?

Can someone please tell me why is this movie being made into such a big deal?

Lead Gopher, it's a big deal because....

    by terry_1978

Bill Condon is directing, and the play is pretty much a classic and semi cult hit amongst people that like or despise Diana Ross. There are some fanboy geeks into more than just sci fi, video games, and rock music, ya know.

    Fantasy

    by the alienist

Well, musicals fit the fan boy criteria in that they're FANTASIES. Music springs from the sky, everyone knows the same lyrics and dance moves. People sing instead of talk. Its as if every ten to fifteen minutes in a musical film, magic happens. And either you can go with it or you can't. Music was the original storytelling form, minstrals travelled the land, putting recent news events into songs as well as legends. Musical theatre/film is just basic heightened storytelling. When mere words aren't enough to convey a feeling the character breaks into song. When done well it can be heartstoppingly wonderful.

    Looking good

    by giger167

I may be in a minority here but it's looking good to me. The three women roles have been very well cast and whilst I wanted to see Fantasia in the Effie part, the choice of Miss Hudson in hindsight has been a very good move as she looks perfect for the part. I think we're due a bit of a comeback on the musical front and this looks good to lead the way :)

    I don't know. . .

    by alpha and omega

This film sounds like a typical low B or C disaster. I don't think that it will suck if Bill Condon is involved, and Jamie is a great actor, but Eddie Murphy will do any picture for a check. He has no credibility anymore. It's like he does a movie just to buy another vehicle and some more material things. What happened to artistry in Hollywood? Geez, this film looks bad. :o

    Yay Eddie!

    by lhombresiniestro

I'm just happy he's doing something different. I know nothing about DREAMGIRLS, but I do know I am a Ronettes, Supremes, Marvelettes Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Shangri-Las, Chiffons, Chantels, Dee Dee Sharp, and all of those other girl groups from the early 60s -fiend. So It should be interesting.

And I like musicals. Some pretty damn good films are musicals. The greatest genre(a geeks favorite kind of movie) filmmaker in the history of cinema loves musicals and wants to make one someday.

    Great Musical...

    by chewbubba73

I don't know how any of you can even comment if you've never seen the show or even heard the music. It is a great musical loosely based on Diana Ross and the Supremes. I'm a geek, straight and own this musical on CD.

I'm guessing girls don't count, huh? But go ahead, oh narrow-minded twits, and miss out on some great stories because you're just too darn proud of your geek cred to "lower" yourselves to the level of watching a musical.

Seriously, why is AICN covering this film?

    by trazadone

It's simply not the place for news on this movie. Very few are interested and, let's be honest, this will have one mediocre weekend and then will disappear until it appears on DVD 3 months later.

....you'll all be clamoring about this movie. I 80% guarantee that you will shit yourself. Musical is just another genre, and if you truly love film, you won't have any bias about any genre. Film is film.
